## OpenBOM Reviews
 ### 1. How OpenBOM has been an invaluable tool.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Damon G. | US Operations Manager, Retail, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has proven to be an invaluable tool in our product development and manufacturing processes. This cloud-based platform offers a comprehensive suite of features that simplifies bill of materials (BOM) management and enhances collaboration among team members and suppliers.

One of the standout features of OpenBOM is its user-friendly interface, which makes it easy to create, edit, and organize BOMs. The intuitive drag-and-drop functionality allows for seamless manipulation of BOM structures, and the ability to specify quantities, add descriptions, and manage revisions ensures accuracy and clarity throughout the development cycle.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One of the main drawbacks of OpenBOM is its limited scalability. The platform struggles to handle large and complex BOMs, causing significant lag and performance issues. This becomes particularly problematic when dealing with extensive product structures or projects with numerous revisions. The slow response times can be frustrating and hinder productivity, especially when working in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ne area where OpenBOM truly shines is its supplier collaboration functionality. We have experienced significant improvements in our procurement process by leveraging OpenBOM to share BOMs and related data with our suppliers. The platform allows suppliers to access the information they need, including quantities and component details, enabling them to provide accurate pricing and availability data. This level of transparency has resulted in smoother supplier negotiations and improved overall procurement efficiency.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Damon, thank you for your review and feedback. Our engineers work on improvements in OpenBOM performance in large-scale BOMs. May I ask you contact our support with examples of these BOMs - it will help our engineers to tune the system. Best, Oleg

 ### 2. I transform the way of generating plans in PDF and storing them

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leonardo A. | technical office engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I love the ease of generating PDFs and STEP files, which are stored in the OpenBOM cloud, allowing other team members to access the information without the option to modify it. I use the OpenBOM plugin in SolidWorks to make drawings and automatically generate 2D PDFs and 3D STEP files along with descriptions and part numbers, which streamlines the process. I also greatly appreciate that I don't need to use space on my hard drive or a local server since everything is in the OpenBOM cloud, avoiding cumbersome folder systems in Drive and providing greater security. The transition from Excel to OpenBOM helped us a lot and it has been a great advancement to eliminate manual editing errors. Whenever I've had issues, customer support has responded in a helpful and quick manner.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Perhaps having an app on my phone that allows me to see information on my phone could help, that would be great.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to automate the generation of drawings and bills of materials, storing everything in the cloud to avoid editing errors and save space on physical disks. It has allowed us to leave behind the chaos of Excel, managing data more securely and efficiently.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your review and feedback! OpenBOM is available in the mobile browser. But we're checking how to deliver a mobile app for a specific function - eg. shopfloor or warehouse access.

 ### 3. Flattened BOM Rollups and Live Collaboration Make PLM-Level Work Easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Defense & Space | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Best thing for me is the flattened BOM and rollup feature. Earlier in Excel if we changed quantity of one sub-assembly, someone has to manually recalculate everything down the line - now it automatically rolls up cost and quantity across the whole structure. Second thing is multiple team members can work on same BOM at same time without "final_v2_FINAL.xlsx" type nonsense. Our purchase person sees the same live data as design team, so no more ordering from outdated list. Also catalogs are genuinely useful - we reuse lot of connectors, fasteners, marine grade hardware across products, so once item is in catalog with vendor details and cost, next BOM is much faster to build. Honestly for a small team without a full PLM budget, it gives 80% of PLM benefit at fraction of cost.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Honestly the UI takes time to get used to - it's not difficult but it's not intuitive also. New team members need proper hand-holding for first one week, especially difference between catalog, BOM and inventory - people keep editing at wrong place initially. Second thing, pricing is in USD so for Indian startup it pinches, and per-user cost adds up fast when you want purchase team, stores person, everyone on it. Sometimes the browser interface feels slow when BOM becomes big with many levels. Also export to Excel formatting is basic - when we need to submit BOM in customer's format (defence customers have their own formats), we still end up doing manual formatting work outside. Reports customisation could be much better.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Main problem it solved is BOM version confusion. Earlier design team, purchase team and production floor all had different versions of Excel and nobody knew which is latest - we actually ordered wrong quantity of connectors once because of this. Now everyone refers one live BOM, so that entire class of mistakes is gone. Second, cost visibility - earlier we only knew total project cost after purchase team finished PO raising. Now with cost rollup we know estimated cost of each unit while design is still going on, which helps a lot when quoting for tenders and planning cash flow. Third, scaling production - we are moving from prototype to batch production, and multiplying BOM for 4 units vs 10 units with correct procurement quantities is now few clicks instead of one full day of Excel work. Net benefit - fewer purchase mistakes, faster tender costing, and our small team spends time on actual engineering instead of maintaining spreadsheets.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback. We are improving UI/UX to make it easier. BOMs are complex and you know that :) OpenBOM new pricing model only requires edit seats to be purchased. Read only seats are free. Also, we provide up to 2000 data records for free. We are not trying to be the cheapest tool, but if you can find a better deal let us know -we are honestly interested in your comparison points.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The fact that Orders, BoMs, Catalogues all look a little too similar to each other, some deliniation between them would be nice

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ordering through sub-assemblies, within our company. We can integrate our solidworks CAD files and order our projects bit by bit, rather than all at once

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback and review! UX similarity makes it easier to use. Catalog defines items. BOM defines product structure. Order defines a specific order. I'm sure onboarding will clarify it for you.

 ### 5. Intuitive, Centralized BOM Management That Boosts Collaboration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ricardo I. | mechanical engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What I like best about OpenBOM is how easy it is to organize and manage bills of materials in a centralized platform. The interface is intuitive, and it makes it much easier to keep BOM information structured, track components, and collaborate with different teams. I especially appreciate how it helps reduce manual work and improves visibility over product data and revisions.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One thing I dislike about OpenBOM is that some advanced features can take a little time to understand, especially for new users. The platform is generally easy to use, but the initial learning curve could be improved with more guided tutorials and clearer explanations for certain functions.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM is helping us solve the problem of managing BOM information in a more organized and centralized way. It reduces the need to work with multiple spreadsheets and makes it easier to access, update, and share component information with the team. This benefits us by improving data visibility, reducing manual work, and helping us manage BOMs more efficiently.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Ricardo, thank you for your review. Please contact our support - we would like to learn what advanced features require explanation.

 ### 6. Lightweight, Flexible Cloud BOM Management with Seamless CAD Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maulik M. | Intern - PT India Commercial , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM felt very strong as i wanted something lightweight, flexible and cloud based software without any complexity like other similar softwares. It provides real time collaboration, seamless CAD integration with popular tools like SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.Data management is flexible here plus BOM creation is very easy. Some upsides of OpenBOM are Faster setup,Low cost, Accurate and very useful for agile product development.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

There are some points that i didn't like about OpenBOM.Like UI/UX seems outdated, There are limited number of features, While using it i faced some integration gaps and syncing issues, Not ideal for complex needs, Occasional bugs, etc.So i can say openBOM works best for lightweight, collaborative BOM management but not for deep enterprise PLM features and very good UI/UX.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I got some business problems which i sorted out with help of OpenBOM.
I got scattered and inconsistent product data,There was poor connection between teams also i was getting manual and error prone workflows. So by using OpenBOM as it is cloud based BOM it helped everyone work from the same data.It linked CAD with BOM so shares data across teams in real time. Reduces manual entries and many more.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback. What features you found missing? Can you please contact our support and share more info?

 ### 7. Promising BOM Tool, But SolidWorks Integration via Parallels Needs Better Support

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anthony F. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What I like most about OpenBOM is the versatility it adds to SolidWorks. Being able to manage BOMs in a more flexible, cloud-based environment feels like it has a lot of potential, especially for teams working on collaborative projects such as Formula SAE. I also really appreciate that OpenBOM reached out to support our FSAE team; it shows they’re genuinely interested in helping students and engineering programs.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The biggest downside I’ve run into so far is getting OpenBOM to work reliably in my setup—specifically when running SolidWorks through Parallels. The integration hasn’t been as straightforward as I expected, and troubleshooting compatibility issues has taken more time than I anticipated.

I think clearer documentation and stronger support for non-standard environments, like virtual machines, would make a big difference. Once everything is working, I can see the value, but the initial setup and integration process has definitely been challenging.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps address the challenge of managing and organizing bills of materials across complex assemblies, especially in a team setting. In projects like Formula SAE, where multiple people are designing different components at the same time, it can be hard to keep track of parts, revisions, and quantities.

Having a centralized system for BOM management makes it easier to stay organized, reduce mistakes, and ensure everyone is working from the same set of data. It also supports manufacturing and purchasing planning by providing a clear overview of the required parts and materials. Overall, it has the potential to improve efficiency and reduce confusion across both design and production workflows.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Anthony F. Thank you for your feedback and review. Running SolidWorks on Parallels is certainly less straightforward. We had a very rare requests about this configuration. We are not limiting, but also not encouraging people to use it on Mac.
I'm curious if you can share more information about what issues you had. Please contact our support@openbom.com
Best, Oleg

 ### 8. Effortless Integration and User-Friendly Setup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jorge P. | Electronic Repair Technician, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like the simplicity and easy use of the OpenBOM interface. Once I start using it, I feel like I'm organizing everything. I also appreciate that it's very well programmed to work with other platforms like Fusion 360 and SolidWorks. The initial setup was fairly easy with some guidance and internet videos.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

For now i dont have any dislike

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to track part numbers, see stock, and upload STL files for engineering. It integrates well with Fusion 360 and SolidWorks, and the interface is simple and easy to use, which helps organize everything.

 ### 9. Quick and updatable catalog, although there are still functions that I don't use

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** María de los Ángeles A. | Workspace & Workshop Admin, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The facilities you have when it comes to finding everything are very useful. I mean, if I want to see what the catalog is, it shows it to me immediately; and if my colleague wants to see a broader one because they need more information, they can also do it. Furthermore, it can be modified without needing to exit, and it updates automatically.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

For now, I haven't tinkered with it much, but I wouldn't say there are things I don't like; rather, there are functions that I simply don't use.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before, it was like having a drive full of Excel files and folders, and it was hard to find each file or just the one you needed. With this tool, on the other hand, it's as if everything is unified, and the work becomes much more efficient.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback and review! I'm glad OpenBOM made your life easier.

 ### 10. Efficient BOM Creation, Needs Modern Interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harshrajsinh M. | Technical executive , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I really like how OpenBOM seamlessly integrates with Fusion 360, making it super easy for me to generate BOMs directly from my CAD designs. Also I now used it with the solidworks and the experience is super good because our intern students also learned how the procurement and all this work. So it makes easy for them to procure the things via openbom through cad software.recent changes like integration with ECAD,ERP and PLM system helps a lot and make the works easy. Also the cloud platform which is like access anytime from anywhere and we don't have to take care of worry about our data. The AI agent integration which can process excel,CAD, and structured files conversationally and other thing that it detects the BOM relationship when we deleted some items. The training course are pretty good.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

If the GUI is changed to a more modern way, it would be more helpful. Also, there's a need for better customer support services and to enhance training and documentation for the advanced features.the cloud features is nice but whenever internet issue rises it cannot be operational.Ai feature also in beta stages need to be developed and mature fully to industrial level.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM with Fusion 360 to quickly create BOMs for drone components, saving time and boosting efficiency in technical documentation. Its quicker with time accessible and easy to use for the new comers
.then the AI can make the procurement more efficient.Automatic BOM detection from the ZIP,cad, excel files and generate BOM automatically.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Harshrajsinh, thank you for your review. I'm curious what CAD system you use that takes a lot of time to generate the BOM. The load time is dependent on many factors - the size of your CAD assembly, CAD system, configuration of derivative formats, etc. Please advise and contact our support. Best, Oleg
