## OpenBOM Reviews
  ### 1. Extremely helpful software for woodworkers (especially those selling plans)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James R. | Associate Pastor of Care and Discipleship, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM does an excellent job of mapping out a material list, allowing you to determine necessary materials before starting a job. This is particularly helpful for those selling plans who want to include a cut list or some derivative with their plans. I've had a lot of success using it personally to keep track of the cuts and odds and ends I'll need for a project built in Fusion360.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It is occationally overkill for someone like me who is really just wanting a detail and organized cut list. Some features can actually slow me down because I get a bit lost. I'd love it OpenBOM came out with a lite version.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM exclusively to track parts and cuts for woodworking.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello James

Thank you for your review and feedback! We are thinking about a simple "agent" that can help to streamline the interaction without additional complexity, configuration and customization. Watch our announcements next week.

Best, Oleg

  ### 2. Amazing website to list my recipes and all additional info with them.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like how simple it is to add and remove components/items to a list in openbom. I like how everything works together. I like how easy it is to feel organized, it is very easy to implement items. I use the program more than twice a week to update stock. It was a great addition to add Openbom and integrate it with my workshop. Also integrating with Onshape was really easy and useful! I also like that they listen to the people using their site/app! I had listed something which was annoying and they listened and fixed the problem!

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I can't find a way to enable a dark mode function. Maybe this already exists but then it is hidden very well :(

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a better version of making my own spreadsheets with all items in my workshop. It is saving me a lot of time. And it makes everything super easy to find back. All my items I currently hold in my workshop I can look up in my openbom :D

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello, Thank you for your review and feedback. I will discuss with our engineers how we can improve the refresh capabilities. Best, Oleg

  ### 3. More than a glorified spreadsheet

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I take the most advantage of the synchronization between our CAD systems and OpenBOM. We use OnShape and Solidworks and we have been able to quickly synchronize BOMs from CAD to OpenBOM as well as generate part numbers with the click of a button. It's a huge step up from trying to manually keep track of items on a spreadsheet that can very quickly get messy especially with our large assemblies.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The Change Order and Change Request processes are quite buggy and not straightforward. It doesn't allow us to make detailed change logs and doesn't track changed properties reliably as well, especially if the properties were changed in CAD (like Quantity). The approval process is also strange - you could easily "plagiarize" someone else's approval and sometimes mandatory approvers can't respond to a CO. You could even approve a change request without getting a sign off from other mandatory approvers. Currently to make the change order process work, we have to leverage other systems and that's not ideal.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a reliable up to date BOM independent of the CAD software. Allows us to make communicate with vendors and contract manufacturers with accurate lists of what we want them to procure.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello

Thank you for your comment and feedback. Some of the things you're mentioned about change management sounds strange.

I'd love to talk to understand what confused you about change management.

If property has changed in CAD (eg. Quantity), you can update a BOM with these changed and then take an approval process to save an "approved" revision.

There is absolutely no way to "plagiarize" someone else for the approval because everyone is getting a unique account. Although admins or people with "approve all" status can approve even if a mandatory approval doesn't. Maybe it was confusing you.

If you can open your email and contact us, we would be happy to discuss more and and share some of the improvements we do.

Please contact oleg@openbom.com - we would be happy to talk.

Best, Oleg

  ### 4. Best hardware BOM tool in the regulated industry

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yongbo W. | VP of engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Graphic view of the BOM in assembly and sub-assembly

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Lacks the feature of bulk input from Excel or Google Sheets

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Source of truth of the product assembly, BOM, and its change management

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Yongbo, thank you for your review and comments. OpenBOM new drag-n-drop import allows you to import from any Excel. The agentic features of OpenBOM AI coming to improve it even more. Stay tuned.

  ### 5. Great affordable tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Seamless Integration with Onshape
OpenBOM works effortlessly with Onshape, making it easy to manage BOMs without disrupting our workflow.

Simplified BOM Management
Managing BOMs, including components like MCAD, ECAD, supplier information, costs, and configurations, has become smooth and efficient.

All-in-One Solution
OpenBOM consolidates everything—software versions, labor, configurations, and more—into a single platform.

Streamlined Updates
Unlike the previous clunky process with MCAD tools, making updates in OpenBOM is simple.

Improved Productivity
The platform has made our workflows faster, easier, and more reliable, ultimately boosting productivity.

User-Friendly and Efficient Platform
The overall experience of using OpenBOM is smooth, efficient, and straightforward.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The only thing I can think of is that it would be nice if, whenever you make a change in Onshape or Onshape detects a change, the page would automatically refresh to reflect the update.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before adopting OpenBOM, we relied heavily on MCAD tools to store all our information, including suppliers, costs, quantities, and even placeholders for items like wire harnesses and off-the-shelf parts. This approach was clunky and frustrating, especially when updates were required—it was difficult to manipulate and maintain accuracy.

OpenBOM has completely solved these issues. Now, we can manage MCAD, ECAD, supplier information, costs, software versions, labor, and configurations all in one place. The platform is smooth, efficient, and integrates quickly into our existing workflows. OpenBOM has been a game-changer for us, streamlining our processes and improving productivity.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you very much for your feedback and review! Appreciate sharing the ideas about Onshape. We are afraid to make changes automatically because it can cause every change to go to OpenBOM even those changes will be later removed as the design will move forward. We recommend to work using design gates - once you achieve a specific design maturity - update BOM / Item data from Onshape to OpenBOM.

  ### 6. My experience has been good, however some aspects such as revision management were not intuitive.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I really like the OnShape integration. It is quite easy to to import CAD files from OnShape into OpenBOM. I also like that you can update BOMs on the fly using the "Update BOM" button. I also like that you can map different types of parts in OnShape to different Catalogs which makes organizing parts within OpenBOM easy.

I really like the automatic part number generation. This makes moving the data from OnShape to OpenBOM much easier as I don't have to apply all the part numbers at the very end.

I like being able to map specific properties from OnShape into OpenBOM which adds customizability.

Overall I think that OpenBOM has a bit of a learning curve but the basics are easy to pick up on quite quick.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The revisioning system is not very intuitive. I was able to understand it from the onboarding session where we walked through a live example, however I was not able to understand it from the videos alone. There was added confusion with regards to the "Revision" property which would get populated by the revision of the CAD model automatically.

When importing a file from OnShape, it imports the mass with the "kg" on the end. This causes issues with the "Mass" property which prevents you from summing the masses of the components in the BOM without going through every component and deleting the "kg" from the end of every cell.

I don't like that to get the total cost and weight of a BOM, you need to use the "Extended Cost" and "Extended Mass" properties. I feel it adds unnecessary columns to the BOM which creates clutter, and could easily be avoided by implementing a Sum Product function like in Excel.

I found making custom views for catalogs and BOMs to be quite buggy. It seems there were multiple times when I applied a view and items I wanted to view were not shown or vice versa.

Very minor point, but I cannot open catalogs/BOMs in different tabs by using Right Click+Open in New Tab. Instead I have to manually open a new tab, go to OpenBOM, and open the catalog/BOM that I want.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I like having a database of all of my parts with how many of them I have in stock. It is also super helpful to have all of the BOMs all in one place so I don't have to go through a bunch of different Excel spreadsheets. Also having it integrated with OnShape makes it feel like one full system instead of two separate systems.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello

Thank you for your detailed review and feedback! Our engineers will check your reports and see what can be improved.

A few detailed comments:
1. We will check the mass property settings. You should not see any "kg" in the value. It would be helpful to see your Onshape settings, since they can impact what you see in OpenBOM.
2. Total cost - the property is needed because quantity is different for each line in each BOM. How would you doe SUM like in Excel if the cost (cell) depends on the quantity? It would be really helpful to discuss what you mean.
3. Item appearance in a view can be affected by a filter applied in a view. If you use filters in views, this is should be the first thing to check.
4. Clicks- curious what part of the application it is. If you can share with us, our engineers can check it.

Thank you again for you feedback
Best, Oleg

  ### 7. User-Friendly BOM Management with a Few Integration Hiccups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kamya S. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM is intuitive and very easy to use, especially for small to mid-sized engineering teams. I appreciate how quickly it allows us to build and manage Bills of Materials without requiring a steep learning curve. The cloud-based collaboration is seamless, and it integrates well with CAD tools like SolidWorks and Fusion 360, saving a lot of time during the design process. Real-time updates and version control are especially helpful when multiple team members are involved.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The platform can sometimes feel limiting in terms of customization—especially when trying to adapt the UI or data structures to specific workflows. Performance can lag with very large assemblies, and occasional syncing issues with CAD plugins can interrupt work. It would be helpful if the reporting features were more robust and if offline access was improved for remote environments.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps us eliminate the chaos of managing Bills of Materials manually or through disconnected spreadsheets. It centralizes BOM data, automates part tracking, and ensures version consistency across engineering and purchasing teams. This has significantly reduced errors, improved collaboration, and shortened our design-to-production cycle. The real-time updates and integrations with CAD tools make it much easier to keep documentation aligned with design changes.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Kamya

Thank you very much for your review and feedback.

We are working on the improvements and your feedback is extremely helpful.

Best, Oleg

  ### 8. Professional help coupled with fast response times to questions made the trial a great experience.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John W. | Mechanical Engineering intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The customer service team was stellar, Pedro helped me many times, setting up times to call so that we could work on implementation strategies. During these calls, we went over all the features that OpenBOM brought to the table, as well as how easy they are to use and to integrate into our company.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

setting up the categories can be tricky sometimes, having to balance between public and private categories and getting the property types to do what you want can be difficult at time.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to set up an inventory system for a prototyping warehouse so we can track hardware, streamline PO's and integrate our design process with what we have on hand.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello John,
Thank you very much for your review and feedback. We’ve been introducing new methods to simplify administration and setup, so improvements are on the way.

Best,
Oleg

  ### 10. Smooth and Convenient

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

it is very centralized place to put all the inventory and organize the ordering. Help to streamline the order approve process and order receiving.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

there is a learning curve for getting familiar with. and lots of powerful but hidden functions that we know it is there but need some work to find out.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In our organization, previously we were using the google sheet and form for order submission and approval, this works for small scale but as our company grow in size, the process becomes very inefficient and slow. introduction of openBOM solves the issue we are facing. it helps streamline the process and even more it can track the inventory, which was a big issue as we grew the size. Now before we are building a new BOM or place the order. we can have a look online instead of finding and counting the stuff in the lab.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your review and feedback. We are building tools to help new users discover the functions and features of OpenBOM more easily. On one hand, there is demand for a simpler workflow and concerns about “extra” features and buttons. On the other hand, some functions are hard to discover. We are also developing an AI support tool to help you learn more about OpenBOM.

  ### 11. OpenBom for small business

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The functionality of Openbom is exactly what we need where it allows us to create a flexible system to track components, labor and keep all associated information. It's relatively easy to modify and update to fit what we need. We've received very good support on addressing issue and it feels that they're listening to feedback and pushing updates frequently to address that feedback.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

We've found a lot of bugs with OpenBOM and its often not clear if its how it's supposed to be or a bug. The documentation is lagging behind the updates and while we appreciate the updates and changes its not always the most straight forward system to use especially in combination with what we've experienced to be a lot of bugs. The documentation is also difficult to track down how to do things with information being buried in the learning courses, forums, and other releases.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Connecting our CAD to the rest of our systems, creating a single source of truth and allowing this information to be updated and shared amongst the company.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello,

Thank you so much for your feedback! While I’m glad to hear that the system does exactly what you need, I’m also concerned about the issues and bugs you mentioned. We take all feedback seriously, especially when it relates to potential problems.

Working with complex CAD data—as I understand is your case—can sometimes introduce challenges. Messy or inconsistent CAD data is often a hidden source of complications, and we’re always here to help resolve them.

We are working on multiple improvements in our documentation. As a many other SaaS platform, OpenBOM has monthly updates and we often introduce new features and improving existing ones. Once we do so, some of the materials online can become outdated, but we are updating them from time to time. OpenBOM community online (community.openbom.com) is the best place to get up to speed and our support (integrated in OpenBOM user interface) is another place to get help quickly.

If you’d be willing to share your name and perhaps reach out to our support team, it would be incredibly helpful. That would allow us to investigate more thoroughly, address any issues you encountered, and support you more effectively with your data.

Warm regards,
Oleg Shilovitsky, CEO at OpenBOM

  ### 12. One of the Exeptional Tool for Collaborative BOM Management and CAD Integrated System

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Diganth S. | Design Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like how easy the user interface is to create and manage muliple levels of BOM across different teams. I mainly use Solid Works and the integration of this CAD software makes it seamless to work on.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The problem arrises only when I have to load a large assembly with multiple parts. The systtem lags for some time.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The centralized product data collection is what I find usefull instead of me using an excell sheet and emails. By the integration with the Solidworks software, the part tracking is very easy and automated. It is very efficient in managing data and reducing manual data entry errors.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Diganth , thank you for your review and feedback. Would you be open to share more information about the problem you discovered with large assembly? If you're using a system with SolidWorks, it might be taken a resource of your computers to produce derivative files using SolidWorks API. In any case, would like to learn more about your experience and see what can be improved. Best, Oleg

  ### 14. Effortless Parts Management, But Catalog Needs Careful Oversight

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Our company has a ton of new parts that are constantly coming in. OpenBom makes it easy to search our "catalog" for parts we have and order new parts.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Without constant oversight, the catalog is hard to keep clean between team members.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Knowing what parts we have ordered in the past. It is especially helpful for record keeping and keeping track of past shipments.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello and thank you for your review and feedback. Yes, data is getting messy. I'd be interested to learn more about what oversight you do and how possibly to improve the function of catalogs in OpenBOM. Please contact me directly - I'd be happy to brainstorm it together. Best, Oleg

  ### 15. good works

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sureshkumar M. | Automation & SPM Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Flexible and Customizable Data Model
Unlike rigid PLM systems, OpenBOM allows users to define their own properties, catalogs, templates, and BOM structures.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

1. Limited Workflow & Change Management
No built-in engineering change order (ECO/ECR) process like in traditional PLM systems.

Users often have to manually track revisions, which can lead to version control issues.

2. Interface Can Feel Overwhelming or Non-Int

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

yes

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Sureshkumar, thank you for your feedback. OpenBOM ECO process is customizable and allows to define approval for ECO / ECRs. I suggest you watch the video in our How To Youtube channel. If you have any questions, please contact our support. Best, Oleg

  ### 16. It took 5 minutes to save countless hours thanks to Open BOM.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler R. | Founder/Owner, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

So I had been plugging away for about a month on a half hobby/work machine design on Fusion 360. Being very new to CAD in general I was very much learning as I went. It wasn't until I was about 80% done with my design when I had the thought that a BOM was going to be necessary. After discovering fusion didn't have the capability built in, the panic began. A few minutes of frantically searching online for a solution (which felt like eons), I found open BOM. Within 10 minutes I had downloaded installed and configured open bom in fusion and had a BOM for a portion of my design. I can't speak to any advanced features or many of the functions, but from a completely green individual it was fast, Intuitive and made my life so much easier when it came time to order, and then inventory the several thousand individual parts to my creation. Also worth noting I'm notna frequent user, nor have I interacted with customer service. Thank you OPENBOM!

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The only negative I can recall was due to a major upgrade Fusion 360 did that changed the way Open BOM integrated with it. Being that this isn't a frequent thing, nor something new users will encounter its not much of a negative.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automatic, rapid, and organized creation of BOMs from fusion 360 designs.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Tyler, thank you for sharing your story! We are working with Fusion. team how to prevent from getting issues with Fusion upgrade, so we hope to do it better in the future. Best, Oleg

  ### 17. Easy to use and very helpful

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It's laid out extremely intuitively on the screen, and is very easy to use. The level of support provided is outstanding, and the how-to videos really walk you through well how to do things in a clear, concise fashion.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

There is very little wrong with OpenBOM. Sometimes the defaults seem off-kilter, but the software itself works very well

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Through openBOM, we now have a better handle on how much of which parts we need to have in stock to build our locomotive, at both a sub-assembly level and full project level, making it easier to tie into fundraising efforts

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for you review and feedbcak!

  ### 19. Simple and User-Friendly, But Needs More Data Upload Flexibility

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Will A. | Electrical Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It's simple and easy to use. It is good for companies that have relatively simple assemblies and can conform to OpenBOM's way of organizing the data.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The simple interface also means there is a lack of flexibility in the ways you can organize data on OpenBOM.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moving away from paper-based engineering change orders to a digitized system.

  ### 20. OpenBOM Use for CAD Modeling

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joshua Y. | Drivetrain Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM allows my team to easily share files with each other, keep them organized, and be able to be used over and over again by multiple members of the team. This is very helpful in keeping our large team files organized in a way where we can find them and use them when necessary, and the updating feature on the cloud is helpful to allow us to lock a CAD part when someone is working on it, and re open it when they are finished and have updated the part.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

A thing that I dislike about OpenBOM is how easily someone can mess up the system, in our case, one student uploaded their entire desktop to the OpenBOM storage obline, and we were unable to restore it back to its original state, so we had to create another one and get all of the files back.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps my team solve the problem of managing the files all at once. We have multiple subteams on our overall design team and need to be able to manage the cad and 3d models effectively and easily, so that everyone can access them and update them when needed. This helps us to focus on the actual project instead of how we are going to store the files because OpenBOM is overall easy to use and helpful for our team.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Joshua,

Thank you very much for sharing additional information and your feedback.

The issue with removing mistakenly synced files has been addressed. A fix will be deployed soon, allowing admins to delete files that were uploaded in error.

Please feel free to contact our support team if you need further assistance.

Best regards,
Oleg

  ### 21. Best tool to manage my projects so far!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eduardo R. | Supervisor de produção, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What helps most is the ability to manage all types of files and information in one place. It makes our lives much easier, especially when managing projects with lots of technical details.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Wish it could be able to enter my data offline and the sync when I got the acess to the network again. Sometimes the working areas are running out of internet signal.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficient BOM management, allowing to create and manage dynamic bills of materials, including revisions and versions.
Supports different types of BOMs, such as structured (multi-level) or flat. Integration with Engineering Software, connecting to various CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, PTC Creo, Onshape and others, facilitating automatic data transfer, also avoiding the need for manual exports to spreadsheets.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Eduardo, thank you very much for your review and feedback. You can keep your CAD files and use them offline, the sync data when connecting to the internet. But we are checking if an "offline" browser mode can be possible too. It is a complex tasks because of data dependencies. At the same time, the internet is getting better too :)

  ### 22. OpenBOM simplifying the procurement and inventory-management system in a startup environment

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM's tools makes the management of inventory in a fast-paced startup environment easy. With so much inventory constantly moving in and out, OpenBOM's robust technology makes it easy for all teams to work together and track items.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Occasionally the UI of the OpenBOM system can look clunky and a bit dated. Some processes like creating an order is difficult to figure out how to do independently without being explicitly walked through it.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In a fast-paced prototyping environment, there is a constant stream of purchase requests coming from all teams. OpenBOM makes the purchasing review-process much more straight-forward for the operations team. It also makes it easier for technical teams to check what items have been purchased before and potentially verify the item's inventory in-house.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello,

Thank you very much for your review and feedback. We have plans to improve the ordering process, including the introduction of a new ordering dashboard. We’d love to work together and learn more about your experience.

Please contact our support team and mention this conversation — we’re eager to understand what can be improved.

Best regards,
Oleg

  ### 23. Pretty good, still learning, wish some things were different

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Josh K. | CPO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Having a web app with my parts and BOMs has been great. We're a small shop and having this level of access has been helpful as we grow our product variations. The BOM export that includes drawings is very helpful.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Getting started was very slow. It took a long time for my MEs to figure out how to structure their SolidWorks files to do what they needed and work with the OpenBOM upload too. We've had issues working together on the OpenBOM website and syncing with the ME work. The distinction between items and BOMs is confusing.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We went from 2 SKUs to 8 for a new product we're building. When it was 2 it was easy to manage in a spreadsheet. Now we need something else - OpenBOM.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Josh
Thank you for your feedback and review. I'm curious to learn more what was the problem with files in Solidworks and OpenBOM? Do you mind to share more?
I can see the point about ITEMS and BOMs. In the coming release, they are coming in the same dashboard. The old BOM dashboard will be integrated in the ITEMS view which will provide a special filter for BOMs and Top Level BOMs.
Best, Oleg

  ### 26. OpenBOM review from user(?)

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It seems like once the processes are in place and openBOM is used as intended, the platform seems to work very smoothly. There is helpful how-to and easy to find questions when I don't know something.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Controls are sometimes un-intuitive or need to be learned twice. It's not very easy to integrate or transition to. Sometimes it feels like the platform is unnecessarily cumbersome, needing to go through so many menus and categories.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Inventory, Purchase orders, and traceability tracking on parts.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello, thank you for your feedback! We are continuously improving OpenBOM with releases monthly. We would be happy to get on a call to discuss what causes your confusion. Please contact support@openbom.com directly and someone will be in touch with you.

  ### 29. Great Onshape Integration, Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The OpenBOM API connects with Onshape...

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Unfortunately the OpenBOM API integration with Onshape didn't fully fulfill all our needs.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Unfortunately the OpenBOM API integration with Onshape didn't fully fulfill all our needs and we went another route.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

  ### 30. New to OpenBOM, but very impressed!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM adds a feature that I was stunned to find missing in fusion, autogeneration of parts list for each body with sizes. I am a woodworker and amateur 3d modeler and have begun using fusion to plan out woodworking projects. I naively assumed that fusion would be able to help me generate a parts list, but was wrong. I was rather distressed with fusion as a woodworking tool until I found OpenBOM! Now I have the functionality in fusion that I wanted in the first place and I can continue planning our my furniture designs. Thanks!

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It is annoying, but not a dealbreaker that OpenBOM relies on the cloud. Also, preview generation of parts takes FOREVER. Luckily I don't particularly need that functionality. Also, I wish it would de-duplicate parts that have the same dimensions if I didn't use the copy tool to create them.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM generates part lists for me so I can make cut lists for my woodworking projects.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello, thank you for your review and feedback. Autodesk has an issue with cloud image generation, therefore moving to the local option will give you a speed bump. We are also improving this image generation with a new image capture function that now available locally. Best, Oleg

  ### 31. It would be really nice if it worked consistently

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It integrates with Onshape really nicely. Its very easy to generate part numbers and BOM's when it works. It has some decent options for categories and part number schemes.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It will create a duplicate BOM for every subassembly every time you update the BOM. All the subassembly's have the same part number and it will usually use the first subassembly that was created so the BOM never actually gets updated. Sometimes it fails to generate part numbers and skips instances that it shouldn't. In general some pretty major bugs and glitches that affect the most basic functionality of the software. It's also extremely slow. My company switched from Fusion360 to Onshape recently. It took almost 30 min to update a BOM on Fusion. It's faster using Onshape but still a bit slow. Overall it's much better to use Onshape's native BOM capabilities.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fusion 360 has no usable BOM capabilities. Open BOM integrates with fusion and allowed us to generate BOM's rather than creating them by hand in a spreadsheet.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello,

Thank you for your comment and feedback. First, I’d appreciate it if you could share your contact details and allow our support team to check your environment.

The most common issue when capturing a BOM from Onshape (and other CAD systems) is how Part Numbers and configurations are managed. Engineers love configurations because they allow them to work faster. However, configurations also introduce significant complexity when creating a product structure with Part Numbers. If your configurations for parts and assemblies don’t have unique Part Numbers, this can lead to incorrect structures and duplications in OpenBOM.

We are implementing several mechanisms to prevent the creation of duplicate BOMs in such situations. These mechanisms are already available in our SolidWorks add-in and are coming soon to other CAD add-ins.

A few comments to clarify the differences between Onshape BOM and OpenBOM (although both share the name "BOM" 🙂):

OpenBOM and Onshape BOM are not the same, even though they share the term "BOM." Onshape BOM is a great table-editing tool that connects directly to the Onshape assembly component structure. If all you need is to edit assemblies and components within Onshape, then Onshape BOM is the right tool. Therefore, I'm curious what brings you to OpenBOM anyway :).

However, OpenBOM allows you to capture design data (assemblies/parts) and create multiple BOMs—engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, cost, etc.—providing a stable product structure and lifecycle (revision) control. This revision control is different from Onshape revisions. Your design revisions are not the same as item/EBOM revisions in OpenBOM because you may have a system (mechanical, electronic, software, etc.) that defines your product. How do you manage revisions for such a system? You cannot do this in Onshape unless everything you do is designed within Onshape, ignoring the rest of your product's ecosystem.

I’d be happy to get on a call to discuss how we can help.

My email is below.

Thank you,
Oleg

  ### 33. Its a very simple way to gain control of BOM management and active stock levels and value

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew M. | Procurement Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Control of stock is simple and can be directly consumed buy opperations linked to sales and manufacture. Implementing the stock and items is as easy as using excel or google sheets.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Linking to other active products such a Xero is limited but is in the pipeline for development and there is still a huge amount of products that do integrate well so you need if your starting fresh you need to make sure you pick the right tools that all link together.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have full control of our BOM releases and our stock which makes fullfilling other activities even easier. Its helping us use older stock which we believed to be obsolete on supporting existing applications with legacy product.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Andrew

  ### 35. Nice PLM (light) software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Machinery | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Nice tool, a lot of new functionalities, etc.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Make it more easy to start with working with OpenBOM. With no conditions.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working with the same files in multiple locations in multiple countries. Now we realize that by copy and paste files and with OpenBom you can smart synchronize files.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you very much for your review. Please contact our support -we would love to learn more about features that are not intuitive to you.

  ### 36. A great tool to organise your manufacturing items

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

For a startup like ours, OpenBOM has really helped us to manage our bill of materials and stock control. The system is easy to work with, organise or parts list and update them with without fuss. The user-friendly interface allows us to get the job done in a few steps for those who are new to BOM management like me.
One of the nice features is the ability to attach images to items which makes it much easier to find and identify what we are looking for. This saves a lot of time compared to typical text-based searching alone. It provides confidence for the part you have selected.
Additionally, the support from the OpenBOM team has been excellent. They respond to queries quickly, are knowledgeable in providing solutions to problems, and provide assistance to help understand the workflow of the system. Their assistance has been top-notch.
We have also developed a simple, independent interface for a simple goods in/out using OpenBOM’s API. The API documentation really helped us to create the system and deploy quickly and achieve what we have wanted to do.
OpenBOM is a great tool for inventory management at our small scale. It is reliable, easy to use, has a modern interface and I highly recommend for anyone managing parts and assemblies, particularly at a small scale as a startup like ours. I highly recommend this product.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

There is a lack of high-level workflow guidance in the system where there is not quite a logical flow of buttons in the process, for example, the production planning purchase orders, all components are filled up with the expected amount automatically, but more often than not, parts come in separately, even from the same vendor so you have to set all the values to 0 for quantity received, then start counting your incoming items and then enter into the system. Simple issues but once you know where they are, the process works.
A form of integration with Xero would also be very welcome.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM has been helping us build a stock management system from the ground up. Its simple and intuitive interface makes it effortless to add and remove stock, streamlining the entire process. The ease of finding items is a huge improvement over other systems I've used in the past, making stock procurement and inventory management far more efficient and hassle-free

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello

Thank you for your review and feedback. It would be great if you can get on a support call with our product manager to discuss the logic of production planning module - we are happy to improve it.

Best, Oleg

  ### 37. Leveled BOM upload is key. Cheaper than Arena.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam S. | Mechanical Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The leveled BOM was the biggest feature that makes it far better than others we were looking at. They use their own leveling coding and that required me to work with ChatGTP to come up with a macro to make it convert 1, 2, 3 , 4 to codes like 1. 1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.2.1 etc. I do not program but once I had that working and a few other import tricks, I was uploading large BOMs that were fully leveled all in one shot. The compare tool makes it easy. Right click-where used is great. Perusing up and down the BOM levels is a snap. It was easy to setup and we were browsing our data quickly once it was imported. Customer support has been good.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

TBD about what customization is necessary for frequent syncing with Netsuite. Daily sync does not seem to be common or standard offering. We anticipate that other departments will be interacting with NS daily and we are not sure what will be needed to have their updates captured by OpenBOM. We will likely contract to make this more frequent. Support hours have been good but due to European time zone, it is early calls for PST and not every day are they available. The updates I was seeing in Solidworks did not appear to capture the changes real time after ECOs and part changes.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Netsuite BOMs are currently displayed as a leveled BOM, formatted, modified and given to Doc Control to update table by table into Netsuite. This tool allows us to upload from the Excel sheet after edits as a complete leveled BOM in one shot. Not table by table as in the past. The process had been so slow that we often ran manufacturing planning while the upload was still happening over the period of several days or weeks and then all the data was messed up as some changes occurred and some had not yet occurred so our material planning got affected in a bad way. This makes it easy to compare and upload in a rapid manner.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Adam, Thank you very much for your feedback and review.
NetSuite update (or any other updates) can be customized and organized with event trigger, so the question of doing it "daily" is probably not needed. Happy to discuss.
Also, the question about Solidworks update in real time is really not clear. OpenBOM updates immediately once you upload the data from SWKS. Maybe you can contact our support and clarify? Thank you, Oleg

  ### 38. OpenBOM a great starting PLM for my start up

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

After reviewing a few options we decided to go with OpenBOM to manage a couple of hardware projects we're developing at our start up. OpenBOM has been really easy to set up and use and they provided a bunch of hands on support as we were getting started. The support team typically responds in less than a day and I couldn't be more happy with how much support was provided for our set up into the system.

I've come from a non-production planning background and the education that OpenBOM has provided has also been really valuable, both over video calls with Pedro and their online resources.

We're using the system for regular product lifecycle management as well as some basic production planning for our low volume manufacturing and it serves this purpose well enough.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I appreciate that OpenBOM incorporates features that enable some basic production planning and inventory management capabilities in addition to hardware version control. It would be great if OpenBOM improved these features further so that inventory movements could be more easily audited and so that production planning had more logic associated with it. But these are non-core 'nice to haves', so I can't complain about the state of the system today!

There have also been the occasional bug in the system - but I believe these are addressed quickly as they appear given the speed and quality of support provided by the team.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're rapid prototyping hardware and getting it into the field into customer homes. Prior to OpenBOM we were managing hardware revisions in Excel, which was very error prone especially when changing different components at different times. OpenBOM has made it easier for us to manage this versioning and to link prototype units to specific customers and their underlying hardware revisions.

We are also doing very manual low volume production planning for items with 30-40 components. OpenBOM has made this a bit easier.

We are also using OpenBOM to manage inventory of 100-150 different components, sub-assemblies, and BOMs

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello, Thank you very much for sharing your story, your review and feedback! We do have plans to extend and improve what we do with inventory. If you would be able to reach out Pedro and speak more about the requirements, it would be really helpful! Best, Oleg

  ### 39. Good Potential but Onboarding Issues

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like OpenBOM's layout and user interface. It's very modern, clean, and pleasant to use. It's not hard to take advantage of the many features it has, and it's easy to find things.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

My team actually had to switch away from OpenBOM because we had onboarding issues - many new members weren't able to access files that easily, and it was hard to integrate with to their computers. Customer support wasn't able to help with this issue, and so we had to switch to another platform.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps keep all of our files organized and easily accessible for all members of our team. We are able to keep track of different iterations of parts for our car and work together designing even when working remotely from all over the country for some periods of time.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello

Thank you for your message and feedback. Could you please share your name- we would like to check what happened and why you have an ongoing issues.
Please send me a direct email oleg@openbom.com

Thank you, Oleg

  ### 40. Start Up Transition from Sheets to OpenBom

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron D. | Global Supply Chain Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

- Onboarding was extremely smooth and the OpenBOM team was knowledgeable about all topics covered about the software we use and how to integrate along with best practices
- OpenBom helps us bridge the gaps between teams and streamline the flow of information from design to production
- Very light to use, no software required, all online making integrating easy

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

There are no dislikes at the moment, we are new to using the software. Some features are lacking, but OpenBom gave us a timeline in which they had already planned to solve these gaps.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM is helping us replace spreadsheets as the main point of information. It is also helping us keep track of all BOM in one central location, along with some supply chain management issue. We had a process that was slow and tedious, using Open BOM helps us save time on many of our process.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Aaron

Thank you very much for your review and feedback. Looking forward to see how you grow your business and improve processes using OpenBOM!

Best, Oleg

  ### 41. Huge improvement from spreadsheet tracking

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clementine H. | Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Before OpenBoM, we were stuck using spreadsheets to try to track and manage inventory. Even as a small company, we felt the pain of not having a good way to clearly update and view parts and revisions in a version-controlled environment. Now with OpenBoM, we have all of the views we need and can update parts with ease.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I wouldn't call it a "dislike", but getting used to the system is a little tricky. At first, it's unclear where you can and can't edit information. After using it for a while, you get used to it.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBoM is solving the issue of having to manually track complex BoMs on Excel spreadsheets. Our BoMs aren't necessarily as complex as larger products, but still require different categorizations and views that can only be achieved with Openbom.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Clementine

Thank you very much for your feedback and review. We are planning improvements in user experience, especially for first time users. We would love to have an opportunity to talk and ask you questions about what was hard for you at the beginning.

Please contact our support.

  ### 42. Great 3DS alternative

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mathys M. | mechanical engeneer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Fast and efficient, the free option is great, it is a real alternative to the other premium platforms. The integration, features and implementation are very easy to use with the youtube chanel. It is really a useful tool to work every week on it. And, the customer support is really comprehensive and fast. So its really helpful for team works in modelisation. And I use it everyday.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

There is a lot of upgrades because of the development so there is some issues sometimes. But it still userfriendly.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working in team on 3D models. And each one can bring its modifications in an assembly or a piece.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Mathys

Thank you very much for your feedback and review!

Looking forward to support you.

Best, Oleg

  ### 43. QBO Integration

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lindsay R. | Business Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

My favorite feature of OpenBOM is the QBO integration. This integration allows me to create POs without keying in each entry. This feature is easy to use. With a click of a button the information I want on a PO is synced to QBO. It was easy to implement the integration as well.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

While I love the integration with QBO there are a few features that were difficult to figure out. I am still working on the logistics with the OpenBOM team to eliminate items on a PO going into inventory, since we do not use this feature.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM is solving the problem of double entry.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Lindsay R.
Thank you very much for your feedback and review.
Please contact us about the QBO issue.
We would be happy to help.
Best, Oleg

  ### 44. Purdue Electric Racing OpenBOM review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kiyan Y. | Project TA, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM for us was a useful PDM for our college level formula SAE Team. We utilized it for file management of over 500 NX CAD files for Purdue’s 2025 racecar.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Unfortunately our largest downside to OpenBOM is that the product had no option to delete items. This left us with no choice but to redesign parts. In addition the OpenBOM documentation could be more helpful.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM is extremely useful as a PDM software especially with the built in sync tools. We utilized 3D Experience previously which proved to be quite a pain.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Kiyan

Thank you for review and feedback. Did you contact our support about the delete? The function delete is available - you need to mark a file to stop synching it and then click to delete. Here is an article and video on our website that describe it.

Please contact our support if you need help.
Best, Oleg

  ### 45. Not too bad. But areas of improvement.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dexter C. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Cloud-Based Collaboration:

One of the standout features of OpenBOM is its cloud-based platform, which allows teams to collaborate in real-time from anywhere. This is especially useful for distributed teams, as multiple users can view, edit, and update BOMs simultaneously without needing to send files back and forth.

The cloud-based nature also means that the latest version of a BOM is always accessible, reducing the chances of version control issues and data discrepancies.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

User Interface and Usability:

The interface can feel a bit cluttered or unintuitive, especially for new users. Navigating through various settings and options can take time to get used to, and the learning curve may be steeper than expected.

The workflow could benefit from a more streamlined design, making it easier for users to find what they need without clicking through multiple menus.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a good UI at the end of the day for communication across stake holders is very beneficial. The flexibility to edit and include consumables is great too.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Dexter, thank you for your review and feedback! We are continuously improving the product. If you have specific issues, please contact our support. Our engineers would love to fix them. Best, Oleg

  ### 46. Limited value in our established workflow, but useful for central BOM management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wilmer K. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has a strong ability to centralize all part metadata in one location, making it easy to keep track of and review BOM information. This can be particularly useful for those who are looking to ensure all part details are managed outside of their CAD or ERP systems. Its interface makes it fairly easy to update and collaborate on BOM info, providing a straightforward way to align teams.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM adds another layer to our process, which can feel redundant given our existing tools like Onshape and Rootstock. It lacks seamless integration with our core platforms, making it difficult to justify the extra overhead to manage data in multiple places. The ideal scenario would be having all of OpenBOM’s features directly within the CAD software, which would reduce complexity.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM serves as a central point for managing CAD data and BOM information, providing an easy way for engineering teams to compile and share data across multiple departments, such as purchasing, manufacturing, and service. This centralization can simplify the process of keeping all stakeholders aligned and reduce communication gaps, particularly when CAD data needs to be connected to other workflows

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Wilmer

Thank you very much for your feedback and review.

I'd encourage you to check the recent integration we made with Onshape, which made it seamless and easy.

Onshape has PDM features. Embedding OpenBOM features is easy.

I'd love to have an opportunity to discuss the process more and understand your requirements.

Best, Oleg

  ### 47. Satisfied, but wishing for more streamlined experience with ordering

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

As a mechanical engineer working with CAD, being able to sync my BOM from my CAD software to OpenBom has been really useful in that regard.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The ordering process has been annoying to deal with and I wish it could be more streamlined. Since I use it frequently to order, it has become an annoying process.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking of parts and the use of parts being integrated in our system. Having all our inventory and BOM's in one place has been really useful for us.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello,

Thank you very much for your review and feedback. We have plans to improve the ordering process, including the introduction of a new ordering dashboard. It would be very helpful i you can share more details about what is annoying in the ordering process -we would be happy to make more specific fixes.

Best regards,
Oleg

  ### 48. A very helpful system for managing a multiple products organization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ye S. | Integration, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The simplicity of the trees for each product make a lot of sense

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The import options to excel aren't perfect

Since we have limited number of licenses for OpenBOM in my company we would like to use a timed auto logout function so we won't stuck without an available license to login the system.

I would like to see a better and more comfortable way for sorting and filtering all over the platform

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The fact we're a growing company creates some difficulties to a new member to understand the connections between our systems, which OpenBOM help to simplify

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Ye. S

Thank you very much for your feedback and review.

We are working on import improvements. It would be great if you can share more about your needs in import. Please contact me directly via email oleg @ openbom dot com.

  ### 49. Slow but good value and integration

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richie E. | Research Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The solidworks integration and excel-like tables.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The web UI is slow and creating new parts is slow. Drag and drop would be a dream.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Product replication is much easier. Logging suppliers and creating rough BOMs. Saves the engineers time by creatinga centralised database.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Richie

Thank you for your comment and feedback. I'm curious what Part creation scenario is slow? Maybe you can elaborate, since adding a part is technically instant. But maybe you're doing something Solidworks?

Best, Oleg

  ### 50. It has speeded up my workflow and has become essential.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jesus H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

How it allows me to reach my goals in an easier and faster way

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

With an interface that's more user friendly

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating parts lists for assemblies.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Jesus, thank you very much for your review and comments. Please contact our support with the details of the problem you described (previsualization). We would like to check it more. Best, Oleg
