**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It’s easy to customize and align with our current process. While we work to fully integrate to OpenBOM we can still export to excel so our procurement group can proceed with its normal process.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I wish that OpenBOM had Catia integration out of box.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They added a feature after a month of me asking. They were able to add properties for the final assembly in the export function.

 ### 3. Using OpenBOM for designing a kitchen appliances

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** TJ K. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has been a great way to organize all of our parts, assemblies, and drawings. It's super useful to have all of that information in one place, and have it be easy to search through. It's also a great way to link the engineering department and the purchasing department. As an engineer, I can request a part to be purchased, and someone from purchasing can go into OpenBOM and get all the information they need to purchase it.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It doesn't always send the step files and drawing files when I want it to. It also crashes Solidworks sometimes when trying to push large assemblies.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM has helped to solve the problem of not being able to store all of our part information in a place that's easy to access for everyone in the company.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello TJK

Thank you for your review and feedback.

Would you be able to contact us with more info about PDF/STEP and crashes? SOLIDWORKS can be tricky sometimes when working with limited computer resources.

Best, Oleg

 ### 4. Great BOM tool with real world usability and cloud convenience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** bharath d. | Transaction Processing Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The thing I appreciate most about OpenBOM is its cloud-first approach to managing complex bill of materials data. Unlike traditional desktop tools, I can access BOMs from any location or device, which has been a game-changer for our remote teams. It's also incredibly handy that it supports real-time updates and collaboration, which keeps everyone in sync without version control issues. The ability to link directly to vendors, prices, and stock levels makes it more than just a BOM tool - it becomes a lightweight procurement platform too.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One limitation is that the user interface can occasionally feel overwhelming when working with deeply nested BOMs. While it's rich in features, the Ul could be improved with better visual grouping and color coding to reduce cognitive load. Also, sometimes the browser version has minor lag when handling large data sets.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to consolidate parts lists, track inventory, and manage supplier data in a centralized system. Before this, we were juggling too many spreadsheets, and updates were messy and error-prone. OpenBOM replaced that chaos with a streamlined and collaborative platform. It's also helped us reduce miscommunication between design and procurement teams.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Bharath, thank you very much for your review and feedback! We are working on the improvements and making visual appearance of BOMs easier. I'd love to get on a web meeting with you to discuss how we can simplify some of the features. Please contact our support.

 ### 5. It was pleasantly surprising but somehow dificult to use.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Easier to create orders, because it took me some time to understand it.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To easily place new orders and shopping lists from the software and check the stocks.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you very much for your review and feedback. I'm happy to hear you were pleasantly surprised by how easy was to use OpenBOM and you didn't find any problems. I'm curious why you gave OpenBOM only 3.5 stars then :) . You can contact me directly. I'd love to learn more about your experience.

 ### 6. Revolutionized Our Inventory Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sachin A.

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I love how OpenBOM serves as a central hub, keeping our entire ecosystem in sync and reducing the need for juggling spreadsheets and manual stock checks. OpenBOM's real-time updates on component availability across multiple projects is unbeatable. The automatic integration of Engineering BOMs directly into our inventory has eliminated over-ordering and stockouts. Whenever design changes occur, our inventory is updated instantly, ensuring our procurement and production teams are always informed about what we have, what is on order, and what needs reordering — it serves as the backbone of our material and stock planning. I also appreciate the live connection between my BOMs and inventory, with changes reflected immediately without the need for extra syncs, exports, or duplicate spreadsheets. It's like having a real-time inventory assistant alerting us of low stocks and reorder needs. OpenBOM’s exceptional change management, with revision control and history tracking, keeps engineering, procurement, and production aligned, tracing every part, quantity, or specification change easily. I love the efficiency in generating updated cost roll-ups and inventory impacts post-design changes, saving us hours. Additionally, the seamless integration with Fusion 360 makes data transfer effortless whenever a design is updated, keeping our teams aligned and removing tedious spreadsheet exports.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One area that could be improved in OpenBOM is speed and smoothness when working on large inventories or multi-level BOMs. The system occasionally feels slow when loading complex datasets, especially during high collaboration. I would also like to see intuitive bulk editing tools, for example, easier mass updates to part parameters or faster ways to clean up outdated items. The platform is powerful, but a bit more upgrade in UI responsiveness and data handling would make day-to-day work more efficient.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to synchronize our ecosystem, solve inventory confusion, and prevent disconnected workflows. It updates stock levels with design changes in real time, eliminating errors, manual checks, and order delays, providing a centralized system for accurate inventory management and seamless procurement alignment.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Sahin, thank you for your feedback and review. I'd love to learn more about your use case. Do you mind to reach out to our support? Best, Oleg

 ### 7. Worried with your BOM management for your inventory ? Try OpenBOM you gonna love it !

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akash A. | CAD Engineer, Automotive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I value OpenBOM for its perfect blend of simplicity and robust functionality. Its has seamless CAD integration and real-time collaboration features are my personal favourite. It has installed as plugin within fusion app that it saves significant time, as i no need to launch another application, minimizes errors, and fosters effective teamwork. Features like the part catalog, repetitive usage options, pricing details, division tracking and cloud accessibility makes it one ideal piece of cake in your design software environment. The easy installation process of plugin directly available from fusion plugins site or their official website and 14 days trial makes it getting started even for newbies without wasting their fortune on new softwares.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM offers some powerful features but there are some limitations. I didn't like user interface personally as it feels clunky and outdated, that feels boring. It also not easy to learn and master quickly, as well with its limited headsup resources, makes it quite challenging to implement it 100%. Also, their pricing model is unclear, making it less accessible for smaller teams or startups and makes them to think again before purchase. The lack of a compatible mobile app or web based experience is another limitation, as some users might often need to access and keep track of their data on the go.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to eliminate spreadsheet headaches, manage BOMs with live data, integrate with CAD, save time, reduce errors, and improve team collaboration.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Akash, thank you for your comments and reviews. We appreciate user interface comments. Here are something you've potentially missed - Youtube channel and training libray website with a lot of resources you can use for implementation, special startup discount and transparent /pricing page online. OpenBOM runs on mobile browser and automatically generated QR code, makes information easy accessible via mobile devices. I hope it helps. Beyond all, our support, which is the best and liked by many customers.

 ### 8. Centralized Component Tracking, with Room for UI Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wesley S.

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I really like being able to keep track of components in one location. Checking our inventory against a BOM and allocating components from my desk is helpful.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes the process of creating a BOM and turning it into a purchase order feels overly cumbersome. Especially for small orders or components we have not previously purchased. Additionally, I feel that the UI does not feel intuitive and I have to reference our documentation for how to go through this process more than I would like.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for managing purchasing requests, device BOMs, and inventory. It helps keep track of required components for device builds, ensures purchase requests are ordered on time, and tracks how many components we have in house.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Wesley , thank you for your review and feedback. Do you mind to share more details about your issues with turning BOM to PO? Maybe you can be open to get on a call with our support to share more? Thank you, Oleg

 ### 9. Streamlines Procurement with Real-Time Sync

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aravindh K. | Drone Developer & Pilot Instructor

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I love using OpenBOM for my procurement process because it provides complete readability and control by eliminating the chaos of scattered spreadsheets. It gives me real-time updates, ensuring that I always have the most accurate and up-to-date information about every component, supplier, time, and price without any delays. This real-time sync is a game changer, as I can instantly see any modifications made to parts, which builds my trust in OpenBOM. The software automatically updates quantities, finds shortages before they become a problem, and efficiently manages vendor data, pricing, and deals. I particularly appreciate the shortage alerts that warn me before a supply issue can escalate into a production problem. The rollups and shortage alerts save me from manual calculations, providing complete visibility and eliminating guesswork in the purchasing process. Thanks to OpenBOM, I can confidently make informed decisions, avoid procurement delays, and negotiate effectively. It has replaced much of my previous spreadsheet work and integrates well with other tools, making my workflow smoother and more organized. Additionally, the initial setup of OpenBOM was straightforward, and I was able to connect my tools and import my first Bill of Materials quickly. Overall, OpenBOM simplifies my procurement process, saves time, reduces errors, and streamlines operations, which is why I would highly recommend it.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I find the overall user interface of OpenBOM could be improved. While it is powerful, some aspects of the workflow still resemble the traditional spreadsheet approach, which could be more streamlined specifically for procurement tasks. When dealing with various vendors and part variants, the layout could be better optimized for these activities. Additionally, I experience some heavy loading times when working with complex BOMs that contain multiple levels and a lot of data. Vendor management is another area that could benefit from improvement, as more integration or customized supplier fields would further simplify purchasing tasks. Although these issues don't cause major problems, enhancements in these areas would make my job smoother.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for instant visibility into my procurement process, eliminating spreadsheet chaos and preventing delays with real-time updates and shortage alerts, which enhances decision-making and streamlines procurement management.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Aravindh, thank you for your review and feedback. I'm a bit surprised by your comment about customized fields. OpenBOM data model is completely flexible and you can add any attributes. Do you mind to contact our support and to validate that use case? Thank you, Oleg

**Reviewed by:** Benel K. | Embedded Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The Organize website with the search tool

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One of the main challenges with OpenBOM is the learning curve—the interface can feel unintuitive at first, and it sometimes takes extra time to set up workflows correctly. Performance can also be inconsistent when dealing with very large BOMs, leading to slower response times. Additionally, while integration options are useful, they may require manual configuration and don’t always sync as smoothly as expected. Finally, the cost structure can feel high for smaller teams, especially when only a subset of features is needed.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps centralize and organize our Bill of Materials, which reduces the time spent on manual spreadsheets and version control issues. It solves the problem of data consistency by ensuring that everyone on the team works with the most up-to-date information. The ability to link parts, suppliers, and costs in one place has made procurement and inventory planning more efficient, reducing errors and delays. Collaboration is also easier, since different departments can access and update BOM data in real time, which ultimately improves workflow and speeds up product developme

 ### 13. Worst platform for Creating bom

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nensi A. | Assistant Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

There is nothing particularly good about open BOM. They seem mainly interested in getting positive reviews on G2 to make marketing easier for themselves, promising rewards in exchange. However, even after submitting a review, they do not actually provide the promised reward. I would advise not to be misled by their reward offers.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The thing that i actually dislike is waiting time while it generates the BOM for the whole product and then you can’t switch on to another window.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don’t think it’s that easy to use Open BOM whatever it is doing, it already exist with other softwares like solidworks, catia, simensNX

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Dear Nensi,

Thank you very much for your honest feedback.

The reward is paid by G2, so please contact us at support@openbom.com
and we’ll help figure out what happened with your review. I tried to locate your account, but I couldn’t find a user named “Nansi A” in OpenBOM, so I wasn’t able to verify the details.

Regarding the technical issues — have you had a chance to speak with our team? The systems you mentioned are complex, and data uploads can sometimes take time, but we always investigate these cases and assist our customers. Our support team is always happy to help.

Also, the value OpenBOM provides goes far beyond generating BOM reports. In fact, I imagine this is what brought you to OpenBOM too — looking for a better way to handle these challenges.

Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Best,
Oleg

 ### 14. My Experience Using OpenBOM for Product Data Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Balaji H. | Procurement Operations Associate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Keeps track of changes, which is critical for product lifecycle management. Ability to manage cost roll-ups and supplier data efficiently. The integration with CAD tools is a huge time-saver, and the version control feature gives us confidence in tracking changes accurately. Overall, it makes BOM management faster, more organized, and transparent.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has great functionality, but I wish the interface was more intuitive. At times, it feels like too many options are packed into a single view, which can be confusing for beginners and Occasionally, the integration setup with certain CAD tools can feel a bit technical and requires extra time to configure.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps us eliminate the chaos of managing BOMs in spreadsheets and emails. It centralizes all our product data, making it easy to keep everything up-to-date and accessible to the team. The ability to link CAD data directly into the BOM has also streamlined our design-to-production workflow, saving both time and cost.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Balaji,

Thank you for your review and feedback.

We are working on improving the user interface and overall intuitiveness. This is not a simple task, as we need to balance it against the growing demand for new features.

The CAD setup reflects the inherent complexity of CAD systems. We are continuously improving, but since we support dozens of CAD system options, this sometimes results in additional technical setup steps.

It would be very helpful if you could contact our support team and share more details.

Best regards,
Oleg

On the side of UX design, we are working on improvements of the dashboards and brining analytics view to customers. As a first example, you can check our new "Items" dashboard with graph navigation and queries.

 ### 17. A great replacement for Excel-based PDM's; without the usual bloat.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Having used OpenBOM essentially every workday for a little over a year; we've found more than anything, our ability to filter components by our own properties is absolutely game-changing. Coming from a more manual, excel-based process, the de-coupling of reliance on learned knowledge and being able to find parts without memorising hundreds of part-codes makes it both easier to find and update information, but also incentivises detailed data-management for future reference.

Ultimately OpenBOM is PDM without a lot of the bloat. It was implemented and picked up pretty quickly by the team, and the export functions let us integrate third-parties who might only work with old-school setups (excel, PDF's etc.). Customer Support was pretty much instant and any questions we've had have been picked up immediately.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Formatting and general UI could probably do with a bit of a tidy/modernising. Get the sense there's a lot of redundancy around a lot of the menu icons (buttons like "Items", "All BOMS", "Top Level BOMS", "BOMS & Catalogues" etc.; some of which are repeated on the same page, all perform similar roles and are barely touched, but share the same space as the much more useful "All Catalogues", and "All Items") ; often a lot of the buttons are mashed into the same menu-space (the "Views" panel can be equally bewildering for first-time users). I'd prefer a more hierarchal approach to UI, where there's one obvious button/location/tab for Items/Catalogues and makes it easier to ignore the 90% of subgroups I don't really ever need.

This matters less once you're familiar with the setup, and most of the designers/engineers got to grips quickly once they were told were everything is, but most of my training troubleshooting usually boiled down to "no it's not under My Catalogues you'll need to go through All BOMS" or "the property isn't visible because of your View setting". A software like Monday is pretty much instantly intuitive due to strong UI hierarchy. Different software's, but the point's the same: the thing I most likely need to find should be the thing that's most easy to see.

Other QOL features, such as more formatting options for cells would be great too (eg. fonts, colours, and better visibility of nesting within multi-level BOMs: when I export I have a script that auto-formats the BOM into something much easier to read, because it can often be hard to parse in OpenBOM itself).

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Originally, all of our product data, including BOM's, were kept in product-specific Excel-sheets; for the most part these worked, until a component would need to change. There was no way to easily find out which products (of which there are thousands) a component was used in, and even if we did, updating these documents would have to be done on every single product-sheet. This could take weeks for a single change to a single component. With OpenBOM, it literally takes seconds to update everything because the information is stored within part-catalogues. It also prevents outdated information being sent out, as the component data is a single-source of truth.

Code-Creation is another simple yet valuable tool; too-easily in Excel could a duplicate part be created. Here it simply doesn't happen.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for yuor review and feedback. We are continuously improving the user experience and bringing new ways to simplify and make it more intuitive. We would love to have an opportunity to talk and discuss what can make your life easier. Please contact our support. Best, Oleg

 ### 18. Effortless Integration and User-Friendly Interface

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin Rex Robbin A. | sr. design engg, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

very easy to work with and eyes to adopt with any 3d software's.
user interface is so good. eyes to trainee others.
Ease of Implementation this into any system.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

it only work in cloud also it don't have direct support in

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Licensing cost is not viable for small teams – The product is available only in a minimum set of 5 licenses, which is not cost-effective for companies with 1–2 design engineers. Pricing should be aligned with Indian market expectations.

Strong potential in India, but marketing and reach are limited – The product has high potential in the Indian engineering market, especially among Tier-3 and small–mid size companies, but requires focused marketing and flexible plans tailored to this segment.

 ### 19. Streamlined Product Management with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tal E. | System Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like OpenBOM for its ease of use and the really short onboarding time, which makes getting started super easy. I also appreciate the feeling that the company is always looking for solutions and trying to help. The features I value most are catalogs, thumbnail images, and the 'where used' functionality, which are quite helpful in organizing and managing projects.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I find that the Fusion 360 integration can sometimes be tricky, especially when working in multi-body design.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to manage permissions and visibility, optimizing product hierarchies, and creating standards across departments, which helps in organizing and reducing unique parts.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Tal,

Thank you for your feedback and review. Would you be open to reporting bugs to our support team? It would be very helpful.

 ### 20. OpenBOM PRO&CON

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yarin M. | Mechatronics Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

the order of the parts is very nice there is a big plus for diversity of the catalogues , the ability to create BOMS and references to the correct supplier

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The revision name cannot be edited, which is inconvenient. For the Onshape integration, you have to generate the part number and then save it manually, as there is no button to generate and save in one step. Additionally, the user experience on the item page is lacking.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

storage menaging & BOM

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Yarin
Thank you for sharing your feedback and review. We will discuss it internally.

With regards to your comments:
1- At this moment, there is an undo mechanism which is active until you refresh the browser. We are improving the undo mechanism and it will soon include the ability to restore the previous "revision" of the object record (eg. Item revision).
2- Revision name - I'm curious if you can share the reason you need to edit a revision name?
Thank you, Oleg

 ### 21. Pleasant Experience with the help of OpenBOM support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM support have been very helpful and fairly quick to respond

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Currently I'm trying to do a fasteners catalogue for our student project and when I save the items in this separate catalogue from the main fusion 360 items catalogue it doesn't count the fasteners automatically. Even if I select multiple and then save item it doesn't count them up. Unless I'm missing something this is what I don't like.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM is automatically creating individual BOMs and not just top level BOMs which is helpful so that we can analyse and manage individual assemblies better

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your review and feedback! To count items in your Fusion project, you need to create a BOM for your design - it will count the screws automatically.

 ### 22. Do you wish to really save time to manage your BOM's! then choose OpenBom

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** vijay s. | Product Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM really helps our team stay in sync. The SolidWorks integration makes updating parts easy and saves a lot of time. It was simple to set up and keeps everything organized so everyone from engineering to sourcing stays on the same page, most importantly having all our product details in one place is a big victory. its a real world game changer tool

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I think the reporting features could use a bit more flexibility. We often need to see BOM data in different formats depending on the project, and having more control over that would really help.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM consolidates our product data, improving collaboration among engineers, sourcing, and manufacturing teams. It reduces errors, saves time, and keeps everyone updated in real-time, especially during design changes, leading to smoother, reliable operations.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Vijay
Thank you very much for your review and feedback.
Please contact our support and tell us more about export feature flexibility you're missing. Our engineers would love to expand it.
Best, Oleg

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Really useful tool to list parts and create BOMs. It also works for inventory tracking eventhough it is not created for that.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Doesn’t have enough training courses so you have to pretty much learn by yourself.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are listing system BOMs and we had them on an spreadsheet so this is being much better for us

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Santiago, Thank you for your review and comments. We've been evolving and expanding features. To catch them all I recommend to go to the OpenBOM community website - we post there updates and check our AI support and openbom.com/blog. ### 25. Seamless and one of the best

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dheeraj K Panicker i. | Social Media Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What I like best about OpenBOM is its ease of implementation and how smoothly it integrates with the tools I already use. The interface is user-friendly, packed with powerful features, and I use it frequently in my workflow. Their customer support is also reliable and responsive, which makes the whole experience even better. OpenBOM is incredibly easy to use, with an intuitive interface that makes managing BOMs and data straightforward.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes the learning curve for advanced features can be a bit steep, and occasional syncing issues with integrated tools can slow things down.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Rajendrakumar, thank you for your review and feedback. Would you be open to sharing more about your comment related to user interface (User interface to be easy to start, navigate and use)? Can you contact us vis support or my email? Best, Oleg

 ### 27. Structured BOM Management with Easy Setup but Needs Performance Boost

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like that OpenBOM has brought organization and structure to our BOM management process. The catalog system is especially handy in keeping a source of truth for our item master. The initial setup was easy and straightforward.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

When working in a large BOM with many items, the spreadsheet can move slowly. It would be nice if the BOM's didn't have any lag or delay when scrolling.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps our company facilitate approvals on item revisions, communicate changes to suppliers, and has brought organization and structure to our BOM management process. The catalog system is also handy for maintaining a source of truth for our item master.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you very much for your feedback and review!

 ### 28. I highly recommend OpenBom

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benel K. | Intergration Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM makes it easy to manage and share Bills of Materials in real time. The cloud-based system improves collaboration, reduces errors, and integrates smoothly with CAD tools. I find it very helpful for keeping product data accurate and accessible across the team.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes the interface feels a bit unintuitive, and it takes time to learn all the features. Performance can also slow down with very large assemblies, and the reporting options could be more customizable

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps us eliminate manual spreadsheets and reduce errors in managing Bills of Materials. It improves collaboration between engineering and operations, keeps data consistent across the team, and saves time by automating updates and integrating with CAD tools. This results in fewer mistakes, faster product development, and more efficient change management.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

 ### 29. Effortless BOM Generation—No More Manual Spreadsheets!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pragati S. | Hardware Lead (Mechanical Design Engineer), Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It automatically generates the BOM, once you click open BOM from utilities in fusion 360, what i like the most is we don’t need to create any spreadsheet and do manual work for creating BOM.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

What I dislike about the OpenBOM is that it can create BOM when the design is in component form, when the design has multiple bodies it can’t create the BOM for separate bodies.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem openBOM solves are teams can edit the same BOM simultaneously, revision history control, makes procurement planning easy, large assemblies can be handled easily

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Pragati

Thank you for your review and feedback. OpenBOM only uses components, but not bodies, because Fusion 360 is not identifying them. You can always convert a body to a component and include it in the BOM. I hope it helps. If you have questions, please contact our support -they will assist you.
Best, Oleg

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Most of the beta functionalities are now matured with the new version of OpenBOM. Compared to Solidworks 3DX, it's easy to implement.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Solidworks add-in is still a bit slow for large assemblies. Workflow can be improved a bit, but nothing major.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Grabcad was reaching it's end of life and Openbom offers similar functionalities and more.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

 ### 32. Amazing Software, Changes the Game with Fusion360, Been using this for years now and just gets better

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eamonn L. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Continues to work flawlessly with fusion360, even with all the recent changes to the program, works really well for my team

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

More comunication with users on new features

 ### 33. Responsive team!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chloe R. | Project Coordinator and Mechanical Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The customer support and onboarding really helped clarify any confusion about the tool & even fixed a bug. I was appreciative of all the feedback.

I really like the CAD integration, and the ability to use catalogs & BOM to manage inventory & create orders. I think this will be particularly useful for us to have a centralized location with all this information

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I think our biggest challenge will be getting the whole team onboard with being comfortable using openBOM as a tool - however, I'm not sure the company can do much to assist with this as there are already many videos & tools online. Moreover, given we do many custom projects, there are limits to its use unless we upgrade to the company subscription

Maybe some tools for the team lead to onboard a team would be helpful

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

openBOM is solving a couple main problems:
A) we have to provide our clients with parts provisioning breakdowns with a lot of information, and this provides a space for this data to be stored and easily sorted by level and by catalog
B) we don't currently have a good inventory management system for parts, given our products are typically custom. I am hoping that we can implement inventory management for the parts in openBOM.
C) We will have two different product iterations (Think a MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro) so it would be helpful to have inventory management for the overlapping parts, while having accurate data and parts provisioning for each one

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Chloe R.

Thank you for sharing information about your experience with OpenBOM.

We are developing new tools that helping the team to onboard. As part of it, we are providing AI support tool that helps users to answer questions.

Our support and service team can work with your to help.

Please contact our support for more questions.

Best, Oleg

I like OpenBOM's easy integration that includes an API. It allows us to develop in-house features that integrate with our Bill of Materials, which is very helpful. I also found the initial setup to be a breeze.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I don't like the cost factors, especially the lack of a decent free tier. It's only 14 days currently. I'd really appreciate an unlimited free tier for at least one project.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for managing Bill of Materials in our electronic projects, and it integrates CAD software like Altium Designer, allowing us to develop in-house features with its API.

 ### 37. A modern and accessible approach to PLM

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maor F. | Co-Founder and CEO, Manufacturing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

As a mechanical engineer, I’ve seen how complex managing product data can get, even for relatively small teams. Traditional PLM tools are often built with aerospace- or automotive-scale organizations in mind, which makes them heavy and intimidating for most companies. OpenBOM stands out by rethinking that model and making PLM much more approachable.

What impressed me most is its spreadsheet-like interface that feels familiar while still supporting advanced capabilities like multi-level BOM management, CAD integration, and real-time collaboration across teams and suppliers. The SaaS approach means it can be set up quickly without the long implementation cycles that usually come with PLM.

For any engineering or manufacturing organization looking to get control over their product data without drowning in complexity, OpenBOM looks like a strong, modern choice.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Like any powerful tool, it takes a bit of time to get familiar with the various features and capabilities if provides, but it's intutitive and easy + they have a very good service and support. Once you do, it’s very intuitive.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM simplifies BOM and product data management, reducing errors from spreadsheets and making collaboration with teams and suppliers much faster.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Maor, thank you very much for the review!

 ### 38. Seamless CAD Integration, Limited ERP Capabilities

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashwin R.

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like the integration with SolidWorks, as it enables our Bill of Materials to get updated immediately when design changes are made in CAD. This makes the integration with our CAD tool very valuable to us. Additionally, the initial setup of OpenBOM was extremely simple.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

While CAD integration is great, OpenBOM cannot be used as a full ERP. We can’t use it to generate POs for procuring components or for production planning.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to maintain our updated BOM from CAD and track inventory, linking design changes to procurement.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

I loved how it connects directly with our CAD and keeps everything up to date in real time and allowed us to collaborate without confusion and mess

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It works very well overall. Sometimes large BOMs take a few extra seconds to load, but that's a small trade off for the accuracy and organization it brings to our workflow.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM has replaced our messy spreadsheets and outdated files with one reliable source for all product data. Now everyone works on the same information, mistakes are fewer, communication is smoother, and our product development moves faster

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Babi, thank you very much for your feedback and review!

 ### 42. OpenBoM simplifies the complexity of Supply chain

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** tejas t. | Transaction Processing Associate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

On OpenBOM we can manage BOMs, parts, and inventory from anywhere, and collaborate with distributed teams and suppliers in real time and also It eliminates the need for emailing spreadsheets back and forth.

Also, BOMs Acts as a bridge to fill the gap between engineering and procurement

 ### 43. Streamlined BOM Management with CAD Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Machinery | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I appreciate how OpenBOM eliminates chaos in managing bills of materials and spreadsheets, centralizing everything for a single source of truth. I love the seamless CAD integration, which pulls part data straight from the design environment, and the real-time collaboration that speeds up decision-making. The ability to build and reuse part catalogs reduces repetitive work and ensures consistency. I enjoy the cloud accessibility and value how OpenBOM scales with my needs without forcing me into rigid workflows, offering more structure and accuracy than spreadsheets.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The user interface, while functional, can sometimes feel a bit cluttered, especially when managing large BOMs and catalogs. A cleaner, more modern layout could make navigation much easier. Additionally, I would love to see deeper integrations with ERP and purchasing systems out of the box. Right now, it's great for CAD to BOM, but bridging the gap to procurement and manufacturing software could make it even more powerful. Finally, although the documentation is solid, some advanced workflows could use more guided examples or templates to help new users adopt faster.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to eliminate BOM management chaos, centralizing information for design and operations teams. It automates updates with CAD tools, saving time and reducing errors. It enhances collaboration, ensuring everyone accesses the same data, which speeds up decision-making.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello,

Thank you for your feedback and review. Our team is focused on improving the user experience for new users. If you’re open to a conversation, please contact our support team — we’d be happy to discuss what caused the issues for you.

Best,
Oleg

 ### 44. Great for collaboration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Loved using it to manage BOMs through development

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Data management can be a little painful sometimes, but overall better than excel

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using OpenBOM to contain/update BOM information such as manufacturer part number, quantity, cost, etc

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you very much for your review and feedback. We are making improvements in our user experience and training to make it easier to start using the tool. However, if you can contact us and tell us more about what specifically was "hard to get", it will help us a lot. Also, check our training library online. Best, Oleg

 ### 45. Easy to Use but Lacks MRP Integration

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 29, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like how easy to use OpenBOM is. I also appreciate being able to directly upload BOMs from SolidWorks, which makes the process smoother.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I don't like that OpenBOM does not directly communicate with our MRP, Katana. It would be nice if it did. The initial setup was fairly easy, rated about 3-10 in difficulty, but mainly because it doesn't directly integrate with Katana.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for controlling BOMs and parts from SolidWorks to Katana. It improves communication between the two systems.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello, thank you for providing your review and feedback. We have many Solidworks customers, so what you're saying it is very strange. I'd like to understand better what happened to you. My personal email is oleg@openbom.com. I appreciate if you contact me directly. Best, Oleg

 ### 46. Seamless Solidworks Integration, Fast Support—Needs Built-In Storage

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Imran B. | Professional Services Manager - Manufacturing , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Easy to use and implement for our Solidworks customers. Customer support is great as well the team gets back to you quick and fast. The ease of integration into Solidworks is amazing.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I would like to see a storage component that is embedded into OpenBom so we don't have to connect to Drive or Box. This will make it a complete Saas solution.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our customers that are on SW do not have a way to manage BOM correctly they are manually using Excel spreadsheets to share data. With OpenBOM now our customers have a way to communicate the MFG BOM and CAD BOM in multiple views.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Imran, thank you for your review and kind words about OpenBOM. Regarding your question - OpenBOM does provide internal storage and you can store and manage files - no need Drive or Box. Right now we provide an unlimited storage to our customers. Best, Oleg

 ### 47. Effortless CAD upload from Fusion

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ignacio M. | Ingeniero, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The ease of uploading CAD from Autodesk Fusion

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes the excess of columns present in the BOMs slows down the search process.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us to have different BOMs according to the final product versions and keep everything organized.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Ignacio
Thank you for your review and feedback.
With regards to the columns, you can define "user defined views" in OpenBOM - they will eliminate columns you don't need.
I hope it helps.
Best, Oleg

 ### 48. Efficient BOM Management with a Few Growing Pains

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel B. | Senior Mechanical Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What I really appreciate about OpenBOM is how easy it was to get started. The interface feels familiar—very spreadsheet-like—but with a lot more structure and flexibility. I especially like the real-time collaboration features, which have made it much easier for my team to stay in sync, even when we’re working remotely. The ability to integrate with CAD tools has saved a ton of time and helped us reduce manual errors.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

While the core functionality is solid, I’ve found that some of the more advanced features aren’t always intuitive. There was a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, especially when setting up integrations and understanding how to fully customize the data structure. I also ran into a couple of performance issues when working with larger assemblies, which slowed things down a bit. Customer support has been helpful overall, but response times can vary.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM has helped me get away from managing BOMs in spreadsheets, which was messy and error-prone. Now I have a centralized, cloud-based source of truth that everyone on the team can access and update in real time. It’s made our workflow more reliable and saves a lot of back-and-forth, especially when dealing with part changes or versioning. The integration with CAD tools has also cut down on redundant data entry, which used to take up a lot of time.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your review. I’d appreciate it if you could share more details about your experience—especially around setting up complex structures, configuring the system, and the support response time.

We know the Surgical Science team very well and work closely with them on every ticket and issue.

Feel free to reach out to me directly at oleg@openbom.com.

Best regards,
Oleg

 ### 49. Streamlined production files and Excel BOM—when updates work smoothly

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It’s well organized, and it helps us get the production file without needing to convert files to PDF or XT. It also produces a great Excel BOM, which makes the workflow much easier.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes it doesn’t update correctly, and it ends up creating a big mess.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main benefit is that the entire company can use the same BOM.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback and review. I'm curious if you can share what means "Sometimes it doesn’t update correctly". Do you have some specific examples? Our engineers would be happy to address them.

 ### 50. "Catalogs" of parts and assemblies available for our entire engineering team is powerful

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James V. | President/Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

We uploaded our existing Exel BOMs into the catalogs and now all the parts we make, components we purchase, and sub-assemblies we make/purchase are all available with current costs to our entire engineering team-remote or on-site. Our 400-500 part, custom industrial machinery BOMs are readily available to duplicate and then customize for the next job and because they are linked to the catalog, current costs are available. Quoting is using the same system now so the materials part of the quote is much more accurate.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

We are still trying to navigate controlling revisions, versions, etc., it seems to be loose. There does not seem to be a function to make your change backwards compatible i.e. if you update a part in a catalog, do you want the new part to be referenced in prior BOMs or just new BOMs...if you rename a part through the Item Info screen, it breaks the prior BOMs using that pre-edit part number...Be careful after updating parts in catalogs or BOMs...there is no "save" function so reloading pages is a good practice but that does not always seem to update...close and reopen helps. Getting a formatted print out without exporting to Excel is not robust. Cost info in Excel exports is not numeric...has to be converted to numbers.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are closer to "one truth" about our parts and components we use. BOMs for prior jobs are much easier to find and access than with spreadsheets.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello John,

Thank you for your feedback. I’d love to better understand your "renaming" use case — are you changing Part Numbers, renaming CAD files, or something else? OpenBOM traces relationships via Part Numbers and CAD file names, so it's important to understand the specifics.

Also, we support multiple versions of Excel, and formatting issues can occasionally arise due to that.

It would be great if you could contact our support team to clarify further.

Best,
Oleg
