## About onlykey
OnlyKey is an open source alternative to YubiKey. Like a swiss army knife of authentication, OnlyKey natively supports: a hardware password manager, multiple two-factor methods (FIDO2 / U2F, TOTP, and Yubico® OTP), passwordless SSH login, and OpenPGP. ✅ PROTECT ONLINE ACCOUNTS – A hardware password manager, two-factor security key, and file encryption token in one, OnlyKey can keep your accounts safe even if your computer or a website is compromised. OnlyKey is open source, verified, and trustworthy. ✅ UNIVERSALLY SUPPORTED – Works with all websites including Twitter, Facebook, GitHub, and Google. Onlykey supports multiple methods of two-factor authentication including FIDO2 / U2F, Yubikey OTP, TOTP, Challenge-response. ✅ PORTABLE PROTECTION – Extremely durable, waterproof, and tamper resistant design allows you to take your OnlyKey with you everywhere. ✅ PIN PROTECTED – The PIN used to unlock OnlyKey is entered directly on it. This means that if this device is stolen, data remains secure, after 10 failed attempts to unlock all data is securely erased. ✅ EASY LOG IN – No need to remember multiple passwords because by plugging OnlyKey to your computer, it automatically inputs your username and password. It works with Windows, Mac OS, Linux, or Chromebook, just press a button to login securely!

  ### 1. Easy Password Security for Me and My Clients

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about onlykey?**

I deal with sensitive client data as a personal trainer, so I want to make sure I can access the client portal easily while maintaining best practices in password management. Onlykey lets me do this in the office or on the go and offers reassurance for my clients knowing access to their data is being handled securely.

**What do you dislike about onlykey?**

It can be tricky to set up, but there are several detailed articles and videos provided on their website to help walk through it.

**What problems is onlykey solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using onlykey as a MFA device as well as a password manager takes a lot of the disorganization out of having to remember/write down passwords in a note or use unsecured SMS authentication codes.

  ### 2. Missing piece to my password management puzzle.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about onlykey?**

In the intricate world of password management, there are scenarios where relying solely on a password manager falls short. Consider these common situations:

Workstation or Laptop Login: When logging into your workstation or laptop, a password manager can’t automatically fill in your password. You’re left with the task of remembering it.

Unlocking the Password Manager Itself: Ironically, to access your password manager, you need to remember yet another password. It’s a catch-22.

In such cases, users often resort to easily memorable (and potentially guessable) passwords or, like me, commit a complex, random sequence to memory—rarely changing it (and sometimes reusing it).

Enter the solution: a hardware device that types passwords for you. With this device, I’ve transformed my password management and workstation logins into robust, unguessable combinations. No more mental gymnastics or tedious typing—I just recall 7-10 digits and gain secure access to all my devices and passwords.

And the versatility extends to mobile devices too, thanks to USB-OTG compatibility (albeit a tad awkward).

**What do you dislike about onlykey?**

While the OnlyKey excels in many areas, it lacks the ability to function as a Smart Card with GPG (unlike the YubiKey). The custom OnlyKey SSH agent feels a bit clunky, so I still keep my YubiKey handy for GPG/SSH tasks. Additionally, the GPG firmware only accepts Signing and Encryption subkeys—not an Authentication subkey.

The OnlyKey’s physical design is commendable, especially considering the integrated keypad. However, I wish the USB plug were slightly thinner. Some USB adapters struggle when the key is inserted. In contrast, YubiKey’s design features a slightly slimmer USB plug that fits seamlessly into any socket.

**What problems is onlykey solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OnlyKey to remember device passwords and passwords for which it would be otherwise impossible to use a PasswordManager; Thereby eliminating the need to remember a complex password or write it down somewhere it can be lost or potentially found by an unauthorized person.
