I use Illustrations AI in my workflow after generating models in Creo using HLR mode, especially when working on Volvo truck assemblies. From there, I create exploded views for manuals and service documentation. This is where the tool really helps.
What I like the most is how it simplifies complex mechanical data into clean and understandable visuals. When we deal with truck assemblies, there are a lot of components, and showing them clearly to the end user is not easy. Using this, I can quickly convert those views into proper illustrations without spending too much time on manual tracing or cleanup.
Another thing I found useful is how it helps in improving clarity. For exploded views, spacing and arrangement of parts become very important, and the tool gives a good starting point. It makes it easier for someone who is not from a design background to understand how parts are connected or assembled.
In my experience, it also reduces the overall effort during documentation. Earlier, we had to spend more time adjusting line weights, visibility, and presentation, but now the process is faster and more manageable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One thing I noticed while using Illustrations AI is that the output is not always ready to use directly, especially when I convert models from Creo HLR mode. For simple parts it works fine, but for complex Volvo truck assemblies or exploded views, I still need to spend time adjusting line clarity, overlaps, and spacing.
Sometimes the details either get too simplified or a bit messy, which affects the final illustration quality. In exploded views, alignment of components is very important, and I’ve had cases where I had to manually reposition parts to make it look properly structured for documentation.
Another small issue is consistency. When working on multiple illustrations, the style or line weight is not always uniform, so I need to tweak it to match the required standards.
Also, there is a bit of dependency on manual cleanup after generation. It’s not a big problem, but it reduces some of the time saving advantage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
