  ### 15. Hands-Off Payroll Management That Frees Up My Time

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

That I don't have to track when an employee is eligible or input changes to their deductions. It is mostly hands-off freeing me up for my other tasks. Implementation was easy.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

While it had been waiting to hear back from a representative when I had questions, that has gotten much better. I appreciate the clear answers when I need them. The only downside was that I was unaware that employees who had been auto-enrolled would see an increase to their deductions each year. While I understand that that is in the plan docs, it would have been much better to have known about that ahead of time.

I do wish there were more tools for admins to create their own reports.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to have to keep track of when an employee reached a certain earnings level and when reached, I had to manage all of the notification and enrollment as well as annual open enrollment - all of that has been eliminated with HI's program.

I really like how Human Interest provides an easy-to-use platform to offer 403(b) benefits to employees while staying compliant with California law. The staff were easy to work with during the set-up phase, and the platform itself is easy and intuitive to use.

  ### 17. Excellent Setup, Fast Support, and Helpful Automated Confirmations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tricia A. | Executive Assistant to the Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

We are a small company, and we have found that setting up the account and communication has been excellent from the start. When we have needed support, we receive responses very quickly. The automated confirmation emails of the 401 (k) deposits are very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

When the person that was handling the account for Solomar resigned, I struggled a little on how to remove her access and make me the primary contact. I reached out to CS and they immediately walked me through how to fix it.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having Human Interest manage our 401k plan has been very helpful. As a small company, we weren't sure where to start, but they made the process very easy. Their quarterly summaries clearly summarize our portfolio, as well as the contributions, dividends, fees, etc.

  ### 18. Straightforward and Very Easy to Use, but the Price Jump Stings

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Van G. | Photographer, Photography, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I like how straightforward everything is - very easy to understand what I'm doing, even with very limited experience using a software like this before.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Very disappointed in the price going from $0 to $120.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping me invest wisely so I don't go down the rabbit hole of where to invest without prior knowledge.

  ### 19. Could be good if their limited setup happens to align with what you want.

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristy D. | Operations Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

It's pretty affordable (especially through Gusto), and the platforms are pretty easy. They have decent support/responsiveness. It's streamlined for the HR/logistics/operations folks to get staff integrated, etc.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Limited logistics/contribution options. I spent a LOT of time going over our goals before we signed up and then what we needed to do wasn't possible. I think as many platforms and tech get "plug and play" you're dealing with staff that aren't experts in these services. The folks who onboard you aren't experts in 401k, 403b, or ROTH laws or regulations. It's like when you go to HR Block for your taxes, those folks are hired and trained in a week to just go through the motions of their platform, they have no experience in tax law. So it was disappointing to get signed up, onboard all our staff, and then realize that they can't support what we want. I believe as an employer you can only contribute a percentage of their pay or some kind of employee match. We are offering a set dollar amount that is equal for all staff, which I was clear about many times up front, and the ONLY way their platform can do that is if we make a non-elective contribution once at the end of the year. This means we miss out on a whole year of growth potential, but also can get messy if someone leaves the company within the year and wants to transfer their retirement portfolio with us to something else, and it means I have to hold onto the funds all year which leaves room for error, for not budgeting properly, etc. So it's really a problem for us. There are considerations for compliance and specifically non-descrimination testing which I tried to get guidance on ahead to see if we were setting outselves up for success and the onboarding people didn't seem to have an understanding of that and said I can't check in with the compliance people until we are already signed up. One checked someone or with someone and told me that in our circumstance we shouldn't be subject to it but I've since talked to experts who say we will be. So overall this didn't work out for us and I'm quite disappointed. When I tried to address the issue with my contacts, they basically said you signed the plan documents so you signed up for this. While that is true, the language and options in these things isn't plain English - it's technical, complicated, and legal. People hire services like this and TPW (Third Party Administrators) in general to help navigate these things and minimize exposure/mistakes because this isn't straight forward. So I'd say they failed us in that regard.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It isn't.

**Official Response from Kathy Yoo-Naut:**

> I'm sorry that your issues have not been resolved promptly, Kristy. We know your experience is important, so we've escalated your case to ensure these problems are addressed as soon as possible. Our goal is to provide effective help, and a member of our Customer Advocacy team will be following up with you to make sure we get this right. Thank you for your feedback.

  ### 20. Most user friendly 401K plans for small businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashley F. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

What I like the best about Human Interest is how user friendly the program is. Whether you are an admin or employee, Human Interest makes the process super easy. The implementation for Human Interest was a breeze and I felt supported throughout the process. I love that it auto enrolls staff so no one misses out on making contributions and growing their retirement fund. It easily integrates with our payroll provider (Gusto) making it essentially "hands off" and they email me after each payroll to update me with what the employee and employer contributions were so I can stay on top of it. Their customer support is outstanding and they are quick to answer questions whether you are on the admin side or the staff side. I was first introduced to Human Interest at my previous job, but loved it so much that I chose to use them for my own personal business I just opened! I will continue to use them for the foreseeable future!

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

There is not really anything I dislike about it. I truly love them!

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They allow myself and my staff to have a retirement account. They also integrate with our payroll provider so it takes that task off my list of things to do. I don' t have to do the deductions myself each payroll. It feels very hands off. I also like that it alerts me when I need to look into something so I am not wasting time logging in when it's not neccessary.

I really appreciate the simplicity of the UI/UX. The integrations had a few hiccups, but that was due to our old 401K provider rather than the product itself. The support from our AM has been great, and she’s always on point.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

So far, nothing honestly. Again, mainly it is the old provider that causing issues.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The simplicity of being able to see everything on one clean UI/UX first page was really helpful. I don’t need to overthink it.

  ### 32. Great sales pitch, HORRIBLE support

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Herschel C. | Principal Consultant, President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

That it connects to QBO. Which is why we moved from our last provider Asc.... of course the initial QBO setup was flawed causing issues.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Most everything. The conversion process is STILL, months later, inaccurate. After MANY emails over MONTHS, I still can't get an answer -- most of the time my support requests go no where with no response. They use a "dedicated account manager" in their sales pitch. That meands dedicatedam@humaninterest email. Not a person. Most of the time I get no response whatsoever. Technical issues abound - they keep saying that one of my employees emails is wrong. Even though we have shown server trace logs that the email was never recieved; further we asked them to simply send that person and email from their account and they'd know it's working. Again, no response. I think they escalated some of the issues - again, no response. After going through this painful conversion, we'll likely just for another administrator as months later it's still incorrect. What good is a "dedicated account manager" when you can't get them to respond?

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Connecting directly to QBO so we don't have to manually enter.

  ### 33. Great Customer Service, Ideal for Small Businesses but Needs More Investment Options

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacqueline A.

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I appreciate Human Interest's great customer service, which is invaluable for my small therapy business. Their support is particularly helpful, providing assistance and guidance that align with the unique needs of a small business like mine. Human Interest also offers me a convenient and effective solution for investing in a 401(k), which is crucial for planning my retirement. This opportunity to invest through a reliable platform is essential for my financial future. Overall, Human Interest supports my business needs and personal investment goals, making it a valuable service for me.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I find the limited options for different kinds of investments in the future somewhat constraining. It would be helpful to have more variety in investment options to better suit diverse financial goals. Additionally, the initial setup was a bit complex, requiring outside assistance to navigate. Although we managed to resolve it, simplifying the setup process would enhance the overall user experience.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Human Interest supports my small business with great customer service and 401(k) investing options, making it convenient for retirement planning.

The seamless integration with Gusto, my payroll provider, makes the entire process effortlessly streamlined and virtually hands-off for me as a business owner. Honestly, everything with Human Interest works well, and that's what I like most about it.

  ### 42. Automates Contributions but Needs Better Support and Flexibility

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yisroel B. | Director of Payroll and Benefits, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I truly appreciate Human Interest's effective automation and seamless 360 integration with our payroll software. This feature greatly reduces the administrative workload, as staff do not have to frequently contact us to update their deduction details, and we are relieved from manually uploading contribution files. This automation is particularly helpful given our large staff size, as it eliminates the need for constant communication and file submission burdens we faced with other providers. The effective integration with our existing systems streamlines the entire process, allowing us to operate more efficiently and focus on other essential tasks.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

1- The software allows automation for only one plan, which is a limitation for large companies with unions that require multiple plans, thus necessitating manual handling for additional plans. 2- The absence of a mobile app restricts employees from tracking their funds in real-time, which is inconvenient. 3- The communication from the dedicated reps is often disorganized and unclear, with inconsistencies between different representatives' responses and delays in receiving solutions. 4- The billing communication is problematic because it lacks clarity on charges and their justifications.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Human Interest to automate 401k contributions, reducing manual updates and submissions with our payroll software and eliminating frequent communications about contribution updates.

**Official Response from Kathy Yoo-Naut:**

> Thank you for taking the time to share constructive feedback. We appreciate your input on what we can improve. We are always looking to enhance our customer experience.

  ### 43. Effortless 401(k) Management, Stellar Interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon F.

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I like Human Interest's interface and customer service. They're very easy to get in touch with if you have any issues, which are very few. It's also very easy to navigate, which obviously helps with time. Time is everything when you're running your own business. The initial setup was extremely easy.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I would prefer if customer service allowed for direct calling and getting an answer immediately, rather than setting up a reservation and waiting for a callback. It's tricky for me to schedule a time since I don't always know when I'll be available.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Human Interest makes it easier to manage my 401(k) as an independent business owner. It's user-friendly, saving me time when running my own business.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Human Interest makes handling payments and forms easy and lets employees manage their accounts how they like.

  ### 46. Effortless 401(k) Setup, Needs Enhanced Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Grace M.

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I like Human Interest's easy-to-use interface. Its integration with Gusto, my preferred payroll provider that I recommend to clients, is a big plus. I've been using Human Interest for a number of years, over ten, I think. Generally, it's just been a great choice for 401(k) plans.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I think they could have a more robust support team. You usually have one individual who you are connected to as your account manager, but it can be difficult to get in touch with them sometimes.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Human Interest helps my clients set up simple 401(k) plans, ensuring compliance with state laws and offering retirement savings benefits to employees.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are doing our 401K. We don't have a dedicated HR person so it's great that it's easy to manage and doesn't take a ton of my time. Onboarding new employees is also completely automated.

  ### 48. Affordable, Easy-To-Use Retirement Plan Solution

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cesar T.

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I find Human Interest to be an affordable and easy-to-use platform for managing employee retirement plans, which is perfect for our non-profit organization’s needs. The user interface stands out to me because it is intuitive and quick, significantly streamlining the process for both setup and daily operations. I also appreciate the access I have obtained through a free two-year subscription, which enabled us to initiate a retirement plan without large initial financial barriers. Additionally, the initial setup of Human Interest was seamless, which further reduced any start-up hassle. Switching from Run ADP was primarily motivated by the lower costs associated with Human Interest, avoiding high setup and monthly fees that were unmanageable for us.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I find the lack of infographics and detailed charts about investment profiles and percentage changes lacking. This makes it more difficult to analyze and understand the investment options thoroughly.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Human Interest for an affordable and easy-to-use platform to process employee retirement plans. The seamless setup and user-friendly interface facilitate managing our non-profit's retirement plan without high setup or monthly costs.

  ### 49. Beginner-Friendly Interface Makes 403B Launch Effortless

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jes K. | CFO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

Human Interest has a very beginner friendly interface. We just launched a 403B option for our company, and most of our employees had never used it before. The process was accessible and not intimidating.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I haven't experienced anything negative at this time.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Human Interest is handling so many of the behind the scenes compliance needs for this employee benefit. We're a very small organization, and we don't have a dedicated HR team, so being able to trust that things are being handled by experts when I can't become an expert is incredibly valuable to us.

  ### 50. Human Interest Makes 401(k) Tracking Easy, with Great Support

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Nothing to dislike here, not applicable!
