Easy to publish and create localization snapshots

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

The Editor is the worst! I mainly create and edit content in oxygen editor because it's so bad.
The migration from our former (way better) CCMS to this piece of garbage was painful. Lots of screwups. Lots of manual updates of xrefs by writers.
The communication is poor. 
They're in their own universe. They do server maintenance during work hours and then never get back to us when the maintenance is complete.

It’s the only tool we have for publishing content.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

We migrated our entire DITA repository to Heretto with near-zero friction, so onboarding was very smooth. Heretto integrates with our company's SSO, so we don't have to create accounts for each reviewer manually, and all our stakeholders can review documentation. The Oxygen integration is also good. A huge plus is that we can collaborate in real-time, making it easy for multiple authors to work on the same content. Heretto's versioning and release management capabilities have helped us create an efficient document release workflow. Customer support is highly responsive, and we have a dedicated customer success team that we meet with regularly to discuss our needs and work out approaches to our business cases. Content reuse is easy, publishing is even easier. I use the tool on a daily basis.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

The UI has some contexual issues still remain, such as with starred items. Bulk publishing of several documents (maps) at one time is not yet available. The editor and map tree don't show full profiling. And the editing experience is not as bug free as it should be.

**Recommendations to others considering Heretto:**

You should take time to understand the principles of component content management. Heretto has a lot of information and tutorials on its website. Take advantage of these resources. You get more out of Heretto if you know DITA, but the platform is user-friendly even for writers with no DITA experience.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're creating scalable documentation and review workflows with Heretto. Our product managers vastly prefer reviewing documentation in Heretto to reviewing PDFs. In Heretto they can easily leave comments and suggestions, also saving us writers time. Another issue we had was backporting corrections to previous versions of the documentation. Using Heretto's release and branching features, we can easily track and merge changes to multiple releases. Also, we use Heretto's metadata and filtering to track our documentation tasks per feature, allowing us to document features when we have the information and then push them to production when the feature is released.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

As a content writer, it's easy to create and manage my topics in Heretto. But you don't have to be an expert to create content. Heretto empowers others to jump in and add their subject matter expertise, with the safety net of a review process that I can control. Plus, multiple people can edit the same topic at once, which makes for great collaboration in a remote workplace.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

The content I write can be very complex, with the need for personalization and filtering for different audiences. While Heretto has features to accommodate these things, the setup is not the easiest. However, their Support team is amazing and always willing to help us figure things out!

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ten years ago, I wrote product documentation -- this field does this, that button does that. But my team realized that wasn't what our users wanted or needed. So we started writing how-to topics that addressed those needs. However, we were still in an unstructured environment with limited control over our content. When we moved to Heretto, we gained full control and a better understanding of our content as a whole. We added metadata and keywords that made our content easier to find. We were able to display our content in the right place at the right time. Rather than writing one-off topics that sat in a black hole, we finally saw the big picture of content strategy. Heretto made that happen for us. And we have feedback and metrics that show this change made a positive impact on our customers.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

The most valuable part of our experience with Heretto is the people who work there.  They listen and care about how we hope to improve the lives of employees and our customers. 

We have some unique, complex challenges. At every step, Heretto has assisted us in not just using their software tools, but helping us make the best decisions for achieving our goals.    

Examples
 - Prior to adopting Heretto CCMS and the integrated Dynamic Portal, our content teams relied on a complex process of authoring in an XML Editor, branching to GIthub, transforming and publishing using a home-grown Docker solution, and then holding our breath that content posted correctly to one of our many S3 front ends.  If you find yourself in a similar situation, Heretto's CCMS and Deploy API or Portal can improve the lives of your employees!

 - In 2022, we conducted user research to understand some of the barriers for our customers as they used our products on a daily basis. While we learned many things, we came to understand  that the brand and layout of our self-service content confused customers.   This was understandable since our company develops multiple, branded software solutions.  Heretto's designers and developers  partnered with our design team to deliver a thoughtful, white-labeled dynamic portal that organizes our products by solutions, removing the barrier of "disjointed branding" and making it easier for customers to discover new solutions to their problems, or find answers to their questions. We will continue to improve this environment for customers, and we're piloting the use the Heretto Deploy API to deliver the right information to the user interface as well.

 - We plan to begin personalizing content for faith-based traditions in the near future. We are putting the building blocks in place and we know that, with Heretto, we can deliver the right language to our partners, helping them quickly implement ministry or service solutions based for their form of polity or non-profit status. Matching the language to their set of values will also help them quickly realize the value of certain solutions to their ministries and organizations.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

Our team would love flexible reporting. For example, I'd like to be able to build a query and customize a report for our business needs. 
We'd also welcome built-in analytics representing the interests of content valuation, such as user feedback loops, the paths taken through content, search metrics, etc.

**Recommendations to others considering Heretto:**

Before purchasing any software, take some time to get your house in order. Document your content strategy. If you don't have one, outline an ideal strategy. Document business goals. The last thing anyone wants is to purchase a tool that hinders your goals and vision. Then, review several tools. 

easyDITA has become an essential part of our business processes. We've realized significant content reuse and become much more efficient. We have not arrived but we're confident that easyDITA and the people at Jorsek can help us achieve our goals. We also look forward to new features that Jorsek has planned. Give it a try.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

-Personalization is the big one. We write for a highly complex suite of products and solutions personalized for various faith-based organizations.  
-Improve the search experience for customers and employees
-Streamline and govern processes.
-Standardize content/semantics.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

- Excellent support from the help support Team
- Excellent listening from Customer Success manager that make lot of requests possible. with the wish to adapt or correct the tool(s) to customer needs
- The use of the CSS make the design of the content really tweakable for the pages design and arrangment
- The Dita architecture and the translation tool make the job easier.. the re-use of the content
- The variety of output format ( pdf, html etc..) make the content avalaible for several uses

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

Some little things in the interface can be improved but this is really to say something to fill in this box.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It reduces the re-writing process. one subject/topic can be shared between documentation and formats ( web etc...).
All the translation follows accordingly and avoid lots of repetitive proofreadings.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

Heretto comes with an easy to use interface for authoring with DITA. The collaboration and review system works well.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

While Heretto offers useful features like version control and a Docusaurus output tool, there are drawbacks. 

The version control system, while capable of comparing changes and managing internal links, is somewhat unreliable. Sometimes changes cannot be merged and  duplication can happen.

The Docusaurus Connector tool for transforming DITA topics into HTML-MD format lacks customization options, making it challenging to inject the output with specific components. Worse, the build automation tool may encounter issues and stop functioning properly for larger projects with extensive image storage.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Topic-based and structured content in DITA require a lot of configuration and knowledge. Heretto offers an easy-to-use environment to set up your project, author in DITA and collaborate with your teammates/SMEs.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

I like the fact that this tool is extremely intuitive. It really takes little to no time to learn it and use it effectively at work. The tool is simple in use and yet has a lot of very useful functionalities.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

The part that I like the least about heretto is that it scarcely lists any actual errors during the publication of a bookmap. We are notified that an error occured but sometimes we don't know what the error really is.

It allows us to store everything in one place and because of that it is easier to work on the bookmaps and publish them by using the scenarios available in heretto.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

Heretto is an accessible yet robust and scalable platform for DITA-based component content authoring and publishing. Heretto makes content authoring and team collaboration easy. Heretto's powerful features can enable growing authoring teams and enterprise-level content organizations to effectively create and manage multiple versioned publications, reuse content, and ultimately single-source content to publish to various customer touchpoints and formats. Also, the Heretto support team is responsive and top-notch.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

Although Heretto has very usable branching and merging features, there can be a learning curve for users who are not familiar with these concepts. I believe this is not uncommon for any CCMS, but this can be alleviated through documentation, training, and identifying champions on your content team to learn these features and promote best practices.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Heretto's most impactful strength upon our first evaluation was its authoring environment and easy-to-understand content library/management features. Although the underlying DITA/XML structure can be intimidating to the uninitiated, authors new to DITA and structured authoring can more easily transition to a fully-fledged CCMS with Heretto. As a growing company having onboarded many new writers (most of whom were new to DITA) since we implemented Heretto (EasyDITA at the time), we have seen these writers quickly come up to speed in authoring and being productive using Heretto.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

Heretto's interface is clean and usable for authors who are not familiar with XML. Their support staff is responsive and friendly, and the tool has the versioning, metadata, and translation capbailities that will satisfy the needs of most enterprises. Being completely cloud-based, authors are able to do everything they need to all the way from authoring to publication without needing to worry about desktop client software.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

Heretto's interface is easy to use, but there is a little bit of a learning curve. Occasionally there are bugs in the interface, which are usually promptly resolved with an update.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Out content strategy was to find a previous document that seemed somewhat recent and up to date, duplicate it, edit as needed, and save it. We knew that much of our content could be single sourced, and there was no reason to have multiple versions of the same information floating around in different documents. We were also spending significant time working on the formatting of our documents, which didn't make sense as each of them should be exactly the same. These are no longer issues now that we are working in Heretto.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

I love DITA because it helps me to write documentation in a structured and clear way. Heretto is an excellent way to produce DITA. I am not familiar with competitors.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

The downside for me is that I am reliant on others to maintain the publish scenarios.

In a table, if I tag some of the content in a cell (eg <uicontrol>), Heretto flicks me back up to the top of the topic. This means I lose the place where I was working and need to scroll back down looking for it. It happens randomly and is annoying.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It produces standard XML and so we are no longer tied to MadCap. It enables me to produce a great Knowledge Base where I can share technical documents in HTML and link across documents. I also share video files and PDFs.

It's so easy to manage a content flow. No more renaming files, attaching notes, and endless subfolders. Iteration is simple and documented as you work. It's simple to find your daily to-dos and work through the list.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

It's burdensome to set up a project at the beginning of work, and the learning curve can be steep for new users. There isn't an easy way to toggle between the backend and a WYSIWYG view.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a good authoring environment for customer-facing content, and it's reasonably intuitive for people who are used to TeamSite, Wordpress, or other collaborative tools.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

Heretto's best asset is its people. The team truly understands structured content, the needs of a content manager, and the day-to-day responsibilities. And, when they don't know something, they have no problem asking. That kind of culture yields the best possible product.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

The only disadvantage to Heretto right now is that the URL changes when we move a topic in the CCMS structure. But, they have this as a top priority to fix. I have no doubt they will get it done.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem we had was that in our old system, our team in India had to pull all-nighters every Wednesday to successfully complete the weekly release publishing (not including content production - just publishing approved content). We set a goal to "eliminate publishing pajama parties." With Heretto, we now wrap up by 10pm in Bangalore, and we're working to bring publishing time from a couple of hours down to minutes. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! 

Heretto is also helping us improve our API Experience by unifying our Swagger content with the doc portal. And the doc portal itself has dramatically improved our customer experience with content.

Heretto has a modern and clean UI and it is easy to learn the basics. The support from the Customer Success teams is great. There is a constantly evolving roadmap with new and useful features being added throughout the year.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

It can feel a bit slow when viewing large complex maps. It isn't easy to output text (or Word) documents when you are using a more complex information architecture.

We are now opening up Heretto to our subject experts to review and comment on our content before our editors start working on it. This will streamline and speed up our review process.

I like that all the documentations we have are organized and easy to track. All versions are traceable through every release that is made.

it is slow sometimes. I have to refresh the page to be able to edit a document.

The ease with which I can create the content structure of the site.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

I sometimes find the strict adherence to the DITA style difficult to manage. For example, adding a note or warning inside a list of tasks can be a convoluted process.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Anecdotally, it helps our customer service ticket deflection. We currently do not have the tools to connect our customer service tickets to the portal usage, but again, anecdotally, we're seeing some ticket deflection. In cases where a ticket is created, our customer service often directs the customer to a page on our portal to resolve the issue.

The system performance can be poor, UI often requires more clicks than necessary to view relevant information, occasional bugs, esp. when searching.

It solves the problem of collaborative viewing, editing and publishing of content, helping track changes, versions and branches of documents.

Sometimes it does not have the capacity to handle increased traffic and it takes a long time to produce output.

Cloud-based service; fairly intuitive UI; workable environment (meets my work demand and requirements); convenient publishing options; fairly easy-to-use drag-and-drop content sharing and management.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

CSS needs customizing for specific needs—may be a knowledge concern only. FOP scenarios have issues in page breaking of tables; line breaking of long words especially in table cells—may need machine learning of hyphenation.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FOP scenarios to some extent; it is understandable that further custom preferences involve cost; I would just like clearer demarcations on SOW—what is and isn't included in Heretto's complementary support.

Displaying exact errors during publication in log files so that it's fairly easy to find and fix them.
Possibility of brachning and releasing manuals to organize and snapshot particular versions of manuals.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

Very unreliable tool -- lots of internal problems, errors popping up, everlasting loading screens.
Unintuitive searching -- need to reload screen or enter names several times, searched names don't pop up at the top

Storing and organizing documents from different projects within the company, publishing documents in many different formats.

Coming from Astoria it is difficult to say.

The search feature does not always produce the expected results. Finding content is difficult and scrolling through a long list is frustrating.

It's useful for storing DITA files but finding content is cumbersome.

The best detail about Heretto is how easy the system is to use. It functions much like MS Word and modification/formatting is simple.

I am a newer user/administrator/content manager of Heretto, and so far, I don't have anything I dislike.

Heretto provides 24 hour direct access to our customers for insurance information/job aid needs. Additionally, this helps reduce the number of phone calls to our Customer Service Center during operating hours which assists in reducing costs.

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

Heretto is a great application for writing teams that do not have a lot of DITA or structured authoring experience. The user interface is intuitive and the product documentation is very useful for setting up features. Our writing team picked up the concept very fast and I think that is in part from the easy-to-use interface. The support team and customer success teams are very responsive and helped us quickly solve problems during our migration and now. We never have to wait long for help! The user interface is so easy that we provide reviewer access to subject matter experts.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

We have had several Customer Success Managers since our onboarding. But, Heretto was always quick to get someone in place. We would also like to see a more robust translation module, but Heretto is very transparent about their roadmap improvements for translation.

**What problems is Heretto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to take long documents and turn them into quick-to-find chunks of content. End-to-end workflow content is more organized and easier to understand. We have increased the quality of our documentation by removing duplicate content and implementing reuse. No more building separate knowledge centers for each product!

I love that Heretto functions both as an authoring tool and CCMS.  What I really appreciate is that we have specialized content and Heretto has gone above and beyond to develop special tools to help us expand and use the content!

Heretto is different from the other CCMSs I used previously so there was somewhat of a learning curve as it works a bit differently.  I think perhaps documentation about how to use the product and our specialized tools could be improved a bit.

They helped us solve structuring our content in a way that is better for reuse and specialized API endpoints.  The end result is greater productivity; business performance has increased.

The support! The team is so knowledgeable and so fast! I've used many SASS products and I've never felt more confident in a support team with the folks supporting our new CCMS.

It's not a fully-fledged Content Ops platform... yet.  Flexibility with workflows needs some expansion and the limits on a publishing scenario with Docusaurus leave something to be desired.

Think through the use of the tool as a whole and not just as an authoring platform.

The ability to reuse content is huge for us!  A unified searchable taxonomy has also allowed us to organize and find our content rapidly.  But the main thing that Heretto does is allows us to give our authors, who are inexperienced with DITA, the ability to write in a unified system W/O  needing to learn a profoundly robust program like Oxygen XML.

Adapting from monolith large documents for Telecom products made is easier using a Cloud-based collaborative tool like Heretto. The ease of re-use and publish for specific content is very easy given that content can be customized right from the product name, to small phrases to larger bits of information.
Improved authoring interface.

Downloading outputs could be a little tedious 
Inability to highlight changes automatically (like change bars in FM). This is available now, but not conducive to our requirement

**What do you like best about Heretto?**

The Jorsek (easyDITA) team is very helpful, knowledgable, and responsive.  Something I really appreciate is Jorsek really listens when I have a problem or a request. The product is straightforward and powerful. I especially like that it hides the messiness of DITA thereby allowing writers to avoid having to "know code". Leveraging the power of the DITA Open Toolkit (OTK) we have been able to highly customize our publications. As an OTK user I find easyDITA to be a snap to update my customizations. Though we use the OTK, it is nice knowing there are powerful out-of-the-box solutions are available too. At first I was wary of using a cloud-based product fearing down-time and lack of web connection. But after 5 years, I've never seen unplanned down-time or had access connections.

**What do you dislike about Heretto?**

Most of my complaints are focused on DITA and not the easyDITA product. However, I would like to see the Review feature be more "for dummies" and not tied to a work-flow process.

We produce enterprise-grade product documentation for our software products. There is a lot of redundant pieces of content and by using DITA we are able to write-once, and reuse many common pieces of content.

easyDITA customer service is on point. Our customer service representative was with us through the entire implementation and engaged. It's easy to log tickets if we need to, and easyDITA is responsive.

DITA isn't easy. That is not easyDITA's fault, but the product name is a bit misleading. However, I think they are doing their best to simplify for end users.

**Recommendations to others considering Heretto:**

If you're moving to DITA, I recommend easyDITA. The customer service is top notch, Jorsek hosts the solution, and they can customize some aspects of the solution for you during implementation.

We have reduced the number of toolsets, put our content into modular topics, applied stylesheets, and can generate output to multiple formats quickly and with the same set of files.

Review  feature  is very good.

Version control is not good. Auto correct is not available. Importing comments to PDf is not available.

Please consider this tool for DITA authoring. But as a CMS it is not the best in the industry.

Creation of structured data can be embedded into websites, application content, mobile applications, etc. with the help of this software. It also handles the data redundancy very well.

Although it provides a trial version for 30 days but it isn’t cheap at all. Costs around $2500 which is too heavy for our pockets.
