**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2021

**What do you like best about FreeOCR?**

First and foremost, it's FREE!

And it does it's job decently enough for you to do what you specifically need to do which for me, is transcribing pdfs to text.

**What do you dislike about FreeOCR?**

The scanning algorithm has difficulty when transcribing slides across columns, and also reading text from inverted contrasts (ie white text within a coloured text box) without manual intervention like highlighting the aforementioned areas. The transcribing isn't 100% accurate but that's not unexpected from most OCRs anyway.

**Recommendations to others considering FreeOCR:**

I think it's pretty straightforward to use, and it is free.

**What problems is FreeOCR solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think FreeOCR is great as it automates much menial work at zero cost, so the benefits are definitely significant, notwithstanding some of the cons.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jose C. | Title Examiner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2019

**What do you like best about FreeOCR?**

This program is very user friendly and I can work on all my scans using it. I like how it interfaces directly with scanners in addition to importing image files and extracts text into a box from which you can cut and paste. The program is extremely easy to use and works well if all you want is text. It even extracts text from PDFs, though it exports only to text. I love how many of my clients will send me a scanned documents and all I need to do is convert it to the ocr to where I can copy and past the words into whatever program I am using.

**What do you dislike about FreeOCR?**

I do not like that you can only process one image at a time. Working in the real estate industry I deal with multiple documents, which many are scans of contracts/etc., so it would greatly help if I were able to process multiple images. I also wish that I could be able to convert and ocr more than one file at one time because I work with several documents at once.

**Recommendations to others considering FreeOCR:**

If you are looking to convert scans into a word file I highly recommend this product. It works great for whenever you are needing to simply copy and past words from a document that has been scanned.

**What problems is FreeOCR solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not like that FreeOCR processes only one image at a time, but it does OCR multi-page PDFs. There are no limits on file size. Also, FreeOCR can create Word and RTF documents from the text it extracts, but it's just pasted text. There's no attempt to reconstruct the document or place images.

  ### 13. A good OCR converter

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francy Matilde A. | Chief Accountant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2019

**What do you like best about FreeOCR?**

Currently the format of scanned documents is one of the most used in all companies to reduce costs on paper, although there are many programs that allow us to manage this type of files are very few that allow us to convert scanned documents to text. FreeOCR is an application that helps us in the task of that conversion, because it takes the scanned document and transforms it into editable text so that the user can handle it in an easier way. This conversion is very fast and simple and without hardly the intervention of the user, this does not mean that it is 100% good, according to my experience FreeOCR has a success rate in the conversion of the scanned documents approximately 70-80%.

This helps us in the task of not having to transcribe those documents in their entirety, but only some paragraphs or simply giving them the format we think is necessary and converting these documents into perfectly legible Word files or other text editors.

**What do you dislike about FreeOCR?**

The success rate in the conversion of the file to text is approximately 70-80%, which means having to review the document in its entirety and compare with the source to verify the missing text

**Recommendations to others considering FreeOCR:**

I recommend the use of this software because it is free and does not consume resources in your system, besides the benefit of the time saved when converting scanned documents into text is invaluable

**What problems is FreeOCR solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me to speed up the transcription time for each of the scanned documents that are required to pass to text, this is very important since time = Money. So in some way I reduce effort and costs.
