## Flat Reviews
  ### 1. Easy to use Product Management app that prioritizes user experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David B. | Lead Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Flat has made it really easy for our team to collaborate with each other. Transitioning from Jira was a breeze for us and we've never looked back. It has largely consolidated our scattered usage of Google Docs & Notion too, and it's really nice to have all of our information in one place. The free tier gave us access to everything we needed as a small team, and it's priced competively for when we're ready to grow.

The Flat team actively reached out for feedback early on in our transition and it's clear that they put a lot of time and thought into understand how different teams might look to use Flat.

There is also a Desktop application which super quick and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

We haven't had any problems with Flat. I'm confident that if we did the support team would be responsive to address any issues.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat is an alternative project management tool that is super simple to use. We've found the simplicity to be a big boost. Previously our Engineering Lead largely created and managed the tickets in Jira, where now we find that both technical and non-technical team members are using Flat to create tickets and colloborate on threads.

  ### 2. Simple and refreshing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ron F. | Product Leadership Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Flat provides all the necessary features and functionality with none of the bloat and complexity that beguile most web apps. Flat is useful both to manage one's own tasks and projects but most importantly to keep in synch with your team and company - it's truly the one place where you can see the status of any project or task, see links to any details and have a threaded conversation to ask questions or add comments. The company is very responsive to feedback and continously makes Flat better and easier to use. It was incredibly easy to get started using Flat while continuing to use all my other SaaS tools.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

I wish Flat had a native mobile app, specifically one for iOS.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat lets me stay in synch with my team - this enables us to spend less time in meetings or with interrupting questions in Slack. It serves as a very simple way to see what everyone is working on, ensuring we all stay focused on the right things. Personally it enables me to keep context on what I'm working on and maximize my own productivity.

  ### 3. Just the right amount of project management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steven S. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2025

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Big fan of Flat. More strucure than Notion, richer than Trello, without the complexity of JIRA. It's my tool of choice for managing small product (software engineering + design etc) teams. I got going with it instantly zero learning curve.

Also -- very cool -- I asked for a feature and they added it within a week, amazing! It was a small convenience kind of thing but still quite nice and I use it now every day.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

No dislikes yet. I guess it could have more bells and whistles added at some point but so far haven't needed any. And I worry that bloat may make Flat less easy which is what's really great about it.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need to manage my product sprints, keep tasks organized, hold people accountable, communicate about the work, etc. We use Flat alongisde Slack, Notion, and GitHub

  ### 4. A perfectly lightweight project management tool for small teams!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew M. | Design Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Flat has been a rock-solid and super-lightweight project management tool. It's focused, extremely approachable, and does everything I need it to.. I've looped in a few collaborators and clients to keep our projects on track and everyone seems to pick it up right away without feeling overwhelmed or needing me to walk them through how to use it.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

It's steamlined and focused nature means that for more complex projects or relationships, Flat may not have the range of features you need.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat gives my team, my clients, and myself a super streamlined overview of a project's status. It also enables the right amount of collaboration - message threads, sharing documents, etc. - without a bunch of superfluous features that we wouldn't use.

  ### 5. Great user and team experience!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacco d. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

The team at Flat has put thought in how to organize and collaborate as a team, and simplified the user experience of their software accordingly. Flat makes our team work better together without adding more work. As an admin it is easy for me to implement, manage people, projects, and integrations with other products. Plus get the customer support when we need it!

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

Flat is an early stage company so you can't expect every possible feature and integration, but that is not a problem because 1) they listen to customer feedback and incorporate this quickly, and 2) the essence of Flat is keeping it simple so better not to complicate it.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat makes our team work better together without adding more work.

  ### 6. Workflow Software of Choice for Oregon State University's Student Entrepreneurship Incubator Program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter C. | Instructor & Program Manager of InnovationX, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

I coordinate/support student workers and with our student entrepreneurs in our InnovationX program through FLAT. I've utilized ASANA and other solutions for years now and I'm glad I finally got learn about FLAT.

It's a dream to use this software and coordinate with various stakeholders. I can't emphasize how easy it is to stay informed with all the moving parts of our organization. If you are looking for a new way to getting work done, I highly recommend FLAT!

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

I wish the other aspects of my administrative role integrated FLAT in our day-to-day operations.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat is making projects easier to coordinate with various stakeholders. It's also a tremendous platform to support our student entrepreneurial journey.

  ### 7. Amazingly good UX

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Flat's greatness lies in its focus—it doesn't attempt to be all things to all people. Unlike Trello after it was acquired by Atlassian, Flat serves as the central hub for your work, rather than trying to encompass the work itself. The simplicity of Flat isn't a result of immaturity; rather, it's the deliberate removal of anything extraneous, leaving behind an unparalleled user experience.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

We'd like to be able to share individual topics with people outside our organization; right now we can only add guest users but that's not granular enough for some use cases. We'd also love to be able to reply to email notifications directly rather than having to jump into the app to do that.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat lets us stay organized and on the same page simpler than any other tool we've tried. We're a distributed organization with consultants who come and go so it's important to have something that anyone can pick up with zero training.

  ### 8. Nothing short of magic - what all product/project/process managers may be looking for

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Flat prioritizes simplicity, usability, and the ability to collaborate *without interrupting each other on Slack all day*. As a product manager I've tried pretty much all of these tools over the years (e.g. jira, asana, trello, monday, etc.) and they tend to be way too complicated and frustrating to use or inflexible — and none of them have ever fully done the job. This is the first one of these tools that I've seen and just immediately clicked with; it's thoughtful and well-crafted at all levels and true to its mission to "stay out of your team's way so you can work". Somehow, magically, it has retained simplicity while still offering flexibility.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

At first, because there are so many both simple and complex project management tools out there, it's hard to discern the magical value that it has. So it'll be important for users to try it out so they can understand how well it does the job.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simplifying project management. It delivers on it's job by ensuring the flexibility to support multiple use cases is still encapsulated within a simple and easy/intuitive user interface.

  ### 9. Simplicity is key

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amir L. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

I like the simplicity in Flat. It uses a familiar interface that's intuitive and fun to work with. Adding and giving visibility to external collaborators is very simple and useful for us since we have several contractors we regularly work with.

My team adopted Flat right from the start. No one complained. I have never seen a project management tool with such wide acceptance.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

As our company grows, I find it more and more useful to be able to better predict deliveries. I wish there was a built-in gantt like chart. However, thanks to Flat's API, I was able to create one using Google sheets.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it primarily for project management

  ### 10. Key tool in our dev workflow

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan P. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Minimalist approach, kanban style overview, slick UI

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

Nothing really - it just fits our requirements perfectly.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We’re a small team and work on lots of issues at once - constantly bouncing them back and forth between team members and stages like ‘for discussion’, ‘in progress’, ‘in testing’ etc. Flat fits our workflow perfectly and the team have been incredible in incorporating many of our suggestions. Honestly, we’d be pretty lost without it!

  ### 11. Flat is the most intuitive project management tool I've ever used

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben H. | Design Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Flat is so easy to use that I didn’t need any onboarding—it just made sense right away. A lot of project management tools try to do too much and end up slowing you down, but Flat cuts out all the clutter and keeps things simple. Honestly, I love it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to step up their project planning without the hassle.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

Nothing, I find the product to be everything I need it for.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat has been a game-changer for managing multiple projects at once, helping me stay balanced and organized. The UX is clean, intuitive, and incredibly easy to navigate.

  ### 12. Friendly and intuitive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alon B. | data science, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

The UX is very intuitive andrequires no overthinking. It also smoothlesly integrates with other tools I use daily. The support we get as a compay also gives the feeling of trust in the product.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

Can't think of anything in particular so far.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows you to organize workflow and visualize tasks, especially good when collaborating with a team on subtasks.

  ### 13. Simple and powerful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phil S. | Senior Staff Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

No setup or configuration required. I got productive in Flat instantly and without setting up complicated configuration or workflows. It just worked.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

No downsides. I've been using it for a couple of years. An iOS app would make it even better.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flat helps me keep several streams of work organized.

  ### 14. Simple, effective & non-distracting.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeet S. | Founder, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Easy to use. Easy to learn. Good free tier. Best UX for complex, inter-related work. We get one place to breakdown tasks for a topic and all discussions around it.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

Smaller UX points like a bit more flexibility for writing tasks. And centralised updates across workspace or account.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One place to track complex tasks & their related discussions. Also, task tracking.

  ### 15. Clean UI and easy to learn

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

I like the fact that it's doing exactly what it has to do, no unnecessary features.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

I might not see that feature (and its already implemented) but I miss priority field on tickets - currently we need to create labels with priority. It would be nice to have such field that we would be able to filter by (instead of labels).

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Board for product development.

**Official Response from Andrew Kallem:**

> Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Happy to let you know that topics now have an explicit priority field (like low, high, and urgent), and you can filter the workspace by priority. Let us know what you think!

  ### 16. Simple, No Bloat

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter K. | Co-founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 26, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

I like how clean and simple it is, no confusing UI and no unnecessary features.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

No reporting or any AI features - not a big deal, but seems like an opportunity.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provides high-level view of our projects and deals.

  ### 17. easy to pick up and go using

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas A. | UX Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2024

**What do you like best about Flat?**

Everyone who has ever tried a task manager will be able to use it without much effort.

**What do you dislike about Flat?**

It makes me want to hyper stylize my documents and Flatt holds me back and makes me focus on the basics.

**What problems is Flat solving and how is that benefiting you?**

organization and team collaboration.
