I like that Deltek Vantagepoint provides a centralized place to access project and financial information. In my day-to-day work, being able to look up project details and financial data in the same system is very useful, especially when researching transactions or reconciling information between different systems. Vantagepoint has a lot of functionality, but that can also make the system feel complex at times. Some screens and workflows are not immediately intuitive, especially for occasional users, and it can take time to learn where information is located. A lot of the material in the Learning Hub and the help documentation is outdated. When I try to follow the steps, it often turns into guesswork because the instructions no longer match the current system.

It also feels like sharing ideas in the Idea Portal is of little use. There are many great suggestions that seem like simple fixes, but they’ve been sitting there for literal years.

On top of that, known defects in the system take a long time to be resolved.

The invoice template editor isn’t very user-friendly either, and there’s no option to edit the number of decimal places for percent complete. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that Deltek Vantagepoint is one of the only comprehensive ERPs for project and financial reporting in professional services. It has modules for cash receipts and disbursements, AP/AR, journal entries, opportunity tracking, project management and performance reviews, and 1099s. I have issues with Purchase Orders, the Fixed Asset module, and AP approval routing. The dashboards don’t work well because they lack intermodule capabilities, and I can’t get a report that combines employee hub data with project data. I have to download data to Excel and use lookups or index match to get it into a format I can use. Setup also took months of data cleanup and scrubbing, and we ran the systems in parallel for a month. I find the reporting limitation absolutely unacceptable. I think Vantagepoint is a premier ERP solution for A/E businesses. Deltek listens to their client and updates their software to assist their clients win work and manage their projects efficiently, providing their firm with a lot of great analytics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There are some areas that can't be customized as much as clients would like - individual billing overrides, only tables; some areas such as project creation screens can't be customized, bank codes can't be inactivated, some workflows are tricky to navigate without Stored Procedures. Although Deltek has the Ideas Portal to voice your opinions, there are some ideas that have been requested for years that would be significant to the daily user if they were implemented. I wish the timesheets could be linked to Outlook calendars. I have seen it in the CRM where we can assign a meeting to a project number, so I feel like the technology is out there and how great would it be if it autofilled your timesheet based upon your scheduled meetings. More consistency when we set up companywide meetings. I also don't like the dashboards, they are very hard to set up. I've attempted to get help and they aren't great. Lots of customizability - which is great! - but making sure our data hygiene is strong is a challenge. We would also like a greater ability to use and maintain API keys so we can do more custom reporting within our own dashboards we use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

*Clunky User Interface: The workflows are completely non-intuitive. Tasks that should take seconds require navigating through overly complex menus and excessive clicks.

*Rigid Reporting & General Ledger Navigation: Pulling clean data, tracking metrics, or exporting functional financial reports is a headache. The formatting breaks during basic exports, forcing manual corrections outside the system.

*Counterintuitive Workflows: Simple daily entries, billing adjustments, or timesheet oversight feel like fighting the system rather than working with a tool built for accounting efficiency. The software delivers a negative return on investment by combining higher financial costs with increased manual labor and reduced productivity. Some of the reports are limited - a feature where you could potentially merge two different reports into one because some reports have restrictions on column options - I know we could do this with AI but would be nice if we could do it within VP. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I’ve had a quick play around with vantage point and am quite liking the fact that projects and opportunities are now combined (differentiated by status) as well the dashboards. In vision, I’ve been able to create a couple global dashboards which are role based so I’m excited to explore the new config for dash parts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
