The problem we're solving is the inefficiency, complexity, and stress surrounding tax compliance and bookkeeping—particularly for small business owners in Germany. Currently, the system is dominated by outdated tools like DATEV, which require slow, manual processes and offer little transparency. Despite this, tax advisors are fully booked and have no incentive to move away from this inefficient setup, as it remains highly profitable for them . This creates a huge burden for SMEs. On average, German small businesses spend 200 hours per year on tax compliance, costing around 2% of their revenues on non-value-adding work . Business owners are caught between two unsatisfactory options: using DIY software that lacks legal coverage and takes forever, or working with certified tax advisors who are increasingly scarce and still offload the burden of data collection onto the client . We identified these pain points through 100+ interviews with small business owners, who repeatedly voiced two core needs: peace of mind and efficiency. They’re frustrated by the disconnect between bookkeeping and tax advisory, and fearful of making costly mistakes due to limited oversight and support . This understanding—grounded in both direct user research and market analysis—is what led us to build "boring": an end-to-end solution that combines AI-powered software with regulated tax services. Our platform fully offloads accounting and taxes, offers real-time business insights, and cuts compliance workload by 80%, all while maintaining 100% legal compliance.
