"First Apple Silicon (M1) native JDK"
What do you like best about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

I was one of early adopters of Apple M1 chip in 2020 and I used Azul JDK as there were no native alternatives. Other JDKs had Rosetta overhead.

Later, when I joined Miro, I was the first backend engineer with non-Intel chip. So my onboarding was a bit unusual, the M1 just was not supported in project setup at the moment 😀. So my first task was to make compatible dev environment.

The Azul JDK was my choice for sure, it gave a significant boost to the build/import/run of my Java applications.

Later all engineers switched from Intel to M1, it increased their productivity and satisfaction a lot! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

Nothing. It was always working just great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Brewing Innovation With Zulu JDK, Why its still my best choice."
What do you like best about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

Azul's Zulu JDK is a java enthusiast's dream come true, offering an exact alternative to Oracle JDK. Their commitment to precision is admirable – they start with the same openjdk source code, use identical build scripts, and even subject their builds to the rigorous TCK tests, ensuring every nook and cranny aligns perfectly. As a seasoned telecom architect sculpting microservices with Spring Boot, this level of meticulousness means you can transition from Oracle to Zulu without missing a beat. Plus, the extensive platform support from Intel to Spark and the easy-to-implement TLS 1.3 make it a playground for both mainstream and niche tech. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

As an architect who does a lot of RnD projects aimed at providing roadmap strategies for my current employer, I'm yet to find something I dislike about it coz, it ticks all the boxes for most of my use cases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Including the JavaFX libraries really helped me"
What do you like best about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

I've used the platform before, but not for any Java apps big enough for its capabilities to make a difference. Now, however, I added a JavaFX Application class to an existing Java app, and I was struggling to get IntelliJ IDEA to run it without setting up external libraries. My workaround was to use Gradle instead, and that helped compile and test, but I wanted to run the app from inside the IDE.

All I had to do was switch my JDK to zulu-21.fx (from SDKman), and everything worked immediately. That made my day. :) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

Nothing. Wow, I can't believe this form is making me add words to say there's nothing wrong. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable, free, and easy to access and install JDK with extra features out of the box"
What do you like best about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

I always choose Zulu JDK because it's always been stable for me, and it's a popular and well-maintained JDK.

It's also nice that Zulu provides a distribution with JavaFx. Although I don't need it, if I wanted to work with JavaFx, I know I'm covered

Zulu even provides a distribution with CRaC support, which isn't yet in main OpenJDK builds. No other Java distribution provides it out of the box besides the builds by the OpenJDK CRaC project, AFAIK. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

The naming is a bit confusing (is it now Zulu JDK or Azul JDK?). But otherwise nothing worries me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Well worth the transition away from other vendors | Windows"
What do you like best about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

We had to migrate away from another vendor for our Windows VMs JRE. It's great for us that the installer is distributed very lightweight and makes upgrading easy and more frequent for us now. I like how seriously Azul takes security and their enterprise features enable Administrators like my self to get ease of use when managing an estate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

When migrating from another vendor we had to do an extra reboot that triggered Windows Updates sometimes. Java 8 to 11 sometimes requires modification of Zulu/Javasoft reg keys to match Oracle ones as our platform ActiveMQ Classic is expecting the other vendor's keys. "Excellent product and Support"
What do you like best about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

Zulu is a well-known name for its strength and reliability. It offers a Java runtime environment that is highly optimized to ensure that Java applications run smoothly and efficiently. This means that developers can trust Zulu to provide consistent and reliable performance, allowing them to focus on building their applications without worrying about runtime issues.

Moreover, Zulu is designed to be fully compatible with the Java Development Kit (JDK). It provides a seamless transition from other JDKs, making it easy for developers to adopt and integrate into their existing workflows. This compatibility and its performance enhancements make Zulu an excellent choice for Java developers who want to optimize their applications.

Besides these features, Zulu also benefits from Azul Systems' extensive experience in Java runtime technology. Azul Systems has a proven track record of delivering high-quality and innovative solutions in the Java ecosystem. Their commitment to optimizing and supporting Java runtime makes Zulu a reliable and trustworthy developer choice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

Zulu has some drawbacks, such as its licensing structure. The full-featured version requires a subscription fee, which may not be suitable for those with limited budgets. However, many developers still find Zulu a reliable and high-performing Java runtime environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easiest path forward from JDK 8"
What do you like best about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

The jump from JDK 8 to modular JDKs can be difficult. Azul Zulu builds of OpenJDK make this easy with builds that include JavaFX modules. This saves fussing around with downloading OpenJFX modules and configuring the module path. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Azul Platform Core (Zulu)?

There are no downsides. Zulu is as solid a build of OpenJDK as you can get. When we first dropped in the Zulu build of OpenJDK with JavaFX to replace Oracle JDK 8, everything "just worked." Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
