I like Relativity's flexibility. No matter what problem arises or what needs there are for our case teams, I know that we can rely on Relativity to find a workflow solution that helps us quickly get the answers we need. I appreciate its built-in capabilities, like API abilities and custom searching. The ability to create workflows based on the needs of the case teams allows us to do our job more efficiently and completely, which helps the case teams to get to resolutions quickly. With Relativity Air, many integrations we used before are now built into the software, making other plugins unnecessary. I also find its innovation and modern capabilities impressive, making it the industry-leading eDiscovery software. What I like best about Relativity is the flexibility it provides to manage complex eDiscovery matters from intake through production. As a Project Manager, I regularly work with large data sets, multiple custodians, complex search criteria, productions, and different review workflows, and Relativity gives me the ability to tailor the workspace to the specific needs of each matter.

The searching and reporting capabilities are especially valuable. Saved searches, dtSearch, Search Term Reports, analytics, and customizable fields make it much easier to organize large document populations, identify relevant data, and provide counsel with meaningful information about their case. I also appreciate the ability to create workflows and views that make sense for both technical teams and attorneys reviewing the data.

From an attorney’s perspective, I also like that Relativity can take a very large and technically complicated collection and turn it into something counsel can actually navigate and use strategically. The biggest challenge with Relativity is that its flexibility can also make it complex. There is a fairly steep learning curve, particularly for users who are new to the platform, and even experienced users sometimes have to navigate multiple settings, objects, and administrative areas to accomplish what should be a relatively straightforward task.

Performance can also be inconsistent at times, particularly in larger or more complex workspaces. When reviewers experience lag, slow document loading, delayed coding updates, or other browser-related performance issues, troubleshooting can be difficult because the cause is not always immediately apparent.

I would also like to see continued improvement in the overall user experience and consistency between different areas of the platform. Some workflows feel very intuitive, while others require more clicks or administrative knowledge than expected. Better visibility into performance issues and more streamlined troubleshooting tools for administrators and project managers would be especially valuable.

I appreciate Relativity's concept of object/field implementation, which allows me to create objects or fields to cater to different client requirements. The item level permissions are great for restricting functions as needed. I find it easy to understand and appreciate the different ways to bring data into the tool, including four different ways to upload documents for a faster start to the review. I don’t like the document translation feature, as it’s often inaccurate and unreliable. I also feel that some common DFIR-oriented functions are missing, although that may simply reflect my personal preferences and professional background. Finally, I think the platform would benefit a lot from a real-time AI chat assistant to help speed up project management, as well as review, triage, and analysis. I really appreciate Relativity's customer support. It's one of the best aspects because they help bridge the complexities of using such a diverse and complex tool. I think we could have better training opportunities from Relativity. A lot of focus has been on AI courses recently, but some of the basics would be good to review and improve, like best processes and workflows for uploading data or sorting it using Email Threading or Near-Textual Deduplication. AI is great, but the fundamentals are also key, and Relativity shouldn't neglect this element. For example, when using AI tools, understanding how to choose and cull a sample from a dataset is often neglected, and more guidance or courses on this would be helpful. I like Relativity’s workflow management, speed, and complexity. It takes time and patience to gather the information I need, and I like that it requires human judgment instead of replacing it with just an AI bot. I have to understand how to use Relativity to get the searches I’m looking for. I also value image search and attachment analysis, which can help narrow down tasks when there’s too much material or it’s difficult to understand without being immersed in the field, and help with tasks that would have taken a lot of time. I have to spend time and patience gathering the information I need, and I really have to understand how to use Relativity to get the searches I’m looking for. I also think Relativity could explore ways to apply the software in new markets, such as AI-assisted record completeness review and medical record completeness verification. I think Relativity is really poor from a user experience perspective. The speed of moving between documents is slow, and the look and feel of the screens are outdated. The screens and workflows feel unintuitive, and there's a lack of ability to tailor to the user's preferences. It also lacks machine translations or transcriptions, and documents are not imaged by default. The search builder is clunky and doesn't show results until the entire search is built and run. Setting it up was very difficult, and this complexity supports a niche for Relativity specialists, who are more technical or IT-focused rather than being lawyers. The main strength of Relativity is the versatility of the platform. It can be used across a wide variety of projects, and we have integrated many of our own tools into it, with more integrations planned as it continues to form the foundation of many of our new developments.

The support team is highly responsive whenever assistance is needed, and the learning resources are extremely helpful for both new users and experienced users looking to stay up to date with the latest features, developments, and best practices.

The newer toolsets, particularly those focused on AI, are a significant improvement over earlier offerings. They are intuitive, easy to learn, and benefit from a much more user-friendly interface, making them straightforward to adopt and incorporate into day to day workflows. While the newer features are well designed, I think the UI for the platform's core functionality particularly the older tools and foundational features feels somewhat dated and could benefit from a refresh. Streamlining the search and filtering experience, along with modernising the permissions workflow (for example, reducing the reliance on pop-up windows), would make the platform feel more intuitive and efficient.

Separately, I have experienced inconsistent performance in some RelativityOne workspaces. At times, search performance slows unexpectedly, and I've encountered occasional freezing, slow page refreshes, and delays when loading or navigating between searches.
