I have found that CivilGEO has spent significant time making sure this software as good as possible and it definitely shows. **What problems is GeoHECRAS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use GeoHECRAS for projects related to stormwater flooding and dam failures. It allows me to better understand the impacts of water surfaces on my proposed sites. Additionally, being able to create and flood maps and then export them back into CAD has been a great benefit as well. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** I really don't have any complaints. The software works great and whenever issues have occurred, the technical support team has been able to help me solve them. **What problems is GeoHECRAS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Because CAD dwg's can be brought into the model along with google maps it has made it much easier to know that I am correctly modeling any floodplain fill that we are proposing. I really appreciate that all types of files can be dropped into GeoHECRAS to easily view other discipline's information and ensure my hydraulic models are as accurate as possible. The support team has been really responsive and available on the day of all our support requests. I can create a working model within a few hours, significantly increasing productivity. GeoHECRAS makes it easy to create reaches, cross sections, and assign Mannings coefficients, bank station, etc. Also the ability to modify one scenario and copy those modifications to another scenario makes it easy to implement changes. Further, the customer service is excellent, they are quick to assist with any issues that I had. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** I can't find anything that I dislike about this software. This would make the software perform smoother and faster. With that said, I just extended my license for another 3 years. I’ve reached out to their customer support multiple times, and they’ve been very responsive and helpful. They also scheduled an hour-long session to walk me through how to get started the first time I used it. Some highlight features include “Download DEM Data” as the downloaded surfaces maintain good quality, "Scenario Manager" which allows for easy comparison of different scenarios in the same project, and automated features such as assigning reaches and cross-sections are fast and accurate. Lastly, it's very convenient to import/export data between Civil3D and GeoHECRAS. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** The main downside with GeoHECRAS is that it can get glitchy toward the end of a project, especially once it’s holding a lot of data. I also find it hard to adjust linework, such as cross-sections, after the analysis has been run, because they end up with multiple points that don’t move together smoothly. Overall, the software is automated and quick to set up, but if revisions are needed, they can be time-consuming. **What problems is GeoHECRAS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I mainly use GeoHECRAS for flood analysis on creeks to determine the water-surface elevation. The software is especially helpful during design phases, because I can easily import a couple of surfaces and compare the resulting impacts. So far, I’ve completed one large flood analysis along with a few smaller water-elevation checks. The data entry can be automatically populated via importing from AutoCAD. The tech support is excellent. Some data entry (editing) is a little awkward, but much better than straight HECRAS. Moving forward in development, it'd be nice if they could keep building on the data entry directly from CAD. The additional GIS integrated features are great for making quick changes to the terrain without having to complete through external processes. Clients love seeing the nicely formatted visual results. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** GeoHECRAS experiences small bugs within the software that at times make the workflow unpredictable. Problems within the software occur that are irrelevant of project inputs. In performing project reviews, it presents me with a much clearer picture for looking at the bones of the model and rapidly checking different components for potential errors. As a designer it is much easier to overlay my entire project and manipulate variables as needed. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** At times when exporting a GeoHECRAS file to a user outside of the office, there can be some manipulations at least in visual representations of geometry if they are opening the file in HEC-RAS. This typically is most present in roadways. The user interface is intuitive and visually driven, making it easy to build and edit the model. The ability to automatically generate cross sections and quickly adjust geometry in a CAD-like environment saved a lot of time. The wide variety of outputs, such as animations, profile plots, and map views, were especially helpful for visualizing flow patterns. Overall, GeoHECRAS provided a smoother and more efficient modeling experience! **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** A few enhancements would further improve the user experience. It would be helpful to have the ability to sort and filter output tables within the profile line plot data tables, and to view stationing in feet on the map view along the profile lines. We would also like to see expanded CAD-like capabilities, such as tools to easily offset polylines by a specific distance. Additionally, when troubleshooting model errors, even though cell IDs were shown in the computation logs, it was still challenging to identify which cells in the 2D flow area were causing problems with so many cell on the map view.
