Is it Google Analytics, offering excellent in-depth metrics on user interaction, site flow, and engagement journeys, or Semrush, which provides moderate indicators through visibility and reach, giving an indirect but useful view of engagement? I think 'engagement' means different things depending on the team. For SEO, Semrush is enough to show whether content is getting traction. For content and UX teams, Google Analytics gives much better detail because it shows on-page behavior and navigation patterns.

For us, Google Analytics is still the most useful when the goal is understanding actual behavior. It shows what people do after landing on content, how long they stay, where they go next and where they drop off. That makes it much more actionable for engagement than tools that mostly show visibility.

While Semrush is helpful, I see it more as an upstream tool. It tells us how content is performing in search and whether it’s gaining reach, but it doesn’t really tell the full story of how people engage once they arrive.

We've found that it is better to pair it with GA rather than choosing one over the other.
