What is 3CX, and what problem is it built to solve?

3CX is a software-based, open-standards communications solution built to replace proprietary PBX systems. It brings business connectivity and collaboration into a communications package that addresses phone costs, employee productivity, and customer experience.

What languages does 3CX support?

3CX supports 9 languages, including Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Italian, and others.

What company sizes and industries is 3CX the best fit for?

3CX’s strongest positive fit appears among small businesses and mid-market organizations, with positive use also represented in larger enterprises. Industry clusters include:
  • Small businesses: Teams with 50 or fewer employees.
  • Mid-market organizations: Companies with 51–1,000 employees.
  • Education and e-learning: Education Management, E-Learning, and higher education.
  • Technology and communications: Information Technology and Services, computer and network security, and telecommunications.
  • Construction and healthcare: Both sectors have a visible presence among positive users.

How long does it take to implement 3CX across a team?

3CX most often goes live in under a month, though implementations can take longer depending on the deployment. The reported timelines include:
Time to go live Relative frequency
Under 1 month Most common
1–3 months Also reported regularly

3–6 months or longer Less common, but reported

What customer support options does 3CX provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

3CX provides support through self-service and direct-contact channels, including a knowledge base, phone support, and chat. The support experience can vary: users appreciate knowledgeable, helpful assistance when it is available, while others describe slow responses, difficulty reaching support, or the need to rely on a partner or community resources.

What is the experience like for teams switching to 3CX from another tool?

Switching to 3CX has often meant replacing a legacy PBX or another calling platform with a more flexible system that teams can manage across locations and devices. Users describe making the change to reduce costs, modernize call handling, and gain remote access; comparisons with older systems often favor 3CX’s administration and feature flexibility, while transitions from cloud calling tools can involve trade-offs in ease of use or reliability. Past systems mentioned include legacy providers such as Avaya, Mitel, Cisco, and Toshiba, as well as cloud calling platforms such as Aircall, Dialpad, and RingCentral.

What tools and platforms does 3CX integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

3CX offers 30 integrations, including tools that connect calling with CRM, collaboration, and customer-service workflows. Examples mentioned include:
  • CRM and sales: Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM, and HubSpot.
  • Collaboration and productivity: Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365/Office 365.
  • Customer service: Freshdesk.
  • Monitoring: Grafana.
These connections can support click-to-call, caller context, and workflows that link conversations with customer or team records.

What features or capabilities could make 3CX even more useful?

More flexible reporting and smoother administration would make 3CX more useful for teams that need to tailor the system to their processes. Recurring improvement areas include:
  • More customizable reports, dashboards, and call-center metrics.
  • Broader integration options and more API access for connecting internal systems.
  • A more consistent, intuitive experience across the web, desktop, and mobile apps.
  • Simpler setup and configuration for messaging, extensions, and advanced call flows.

"3CX Delivers a Smooth, Secure Office Line on My iPhone"
4/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

3CX allows me to use my mobile phone as an office phone without having to share my personal mobile number. It gives me the security and peace of mind of an office line no matter where I am. It integrates seamlessly with my iPhone, supporting both calls and texts, and the performance has been consistently smooth. I haven’t run into any issues—only an easy, straightforward experience. Overall, this product has genuinely improved my workflow and kept me better connected. Onboarding and training were simple and intuitive, and the pricing structure feels reasonable and well worth the investment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

Nothing at all. It is a great product with a high ROI and no performance issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Robust Software-Based IP PBX That Replaces Traditional Phone Systems"
4/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

In my opinion, 3CX is a robust, software-based IP PBX with a unified communications platform design that allows us to replace a traditional hardware phone system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

What I’ve found is that, unlike plug-and-play cloud solutions like Zoom that can be easily managed by a regular office manager like me, 3cx requires a solid understanding of networking, including firewalls and server administration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Practical and lightweight cloud phone system for team calling."
3/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

The web client makes day-to-day calling straightforward without needing physical desk phones or heavy setup. Getting team members configured with their own extensions takes very little time. and having voice, status presence, and quick video meetings right inside the browser communication organised without constant dropouts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

Initial DNS and firewall configuration can be tricky if you move beyond the standard cloud setup. some of the advanced call routing rules and IVR menu workflows also feel somewhat dated compared to modern collaboration tools, requiring you to dig through submenus to find simple settings. "Seamless Zoho CRM Integration with Click-to-Call and Great Texting"
4.5/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

I love how it integrates with our Zoho CRM. With click-to-call, when a current client calls in, I immediately know who it is and can pull up all of their contact information in our CRM. Texting is great, too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

I wish the web version had hotkeys. Also, some parts of the UI could be simplified. For example, when you save an option in a user profile, you have to click Save in two different places for the changes to take effect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy Setup and Scalable Pricing, but Reporting Is Too Static"
2.5/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

3CX is quick and easy to set up. They don’t bill per agent or extension; instead, they charge per concurrent call, which makes it cost-friendly when you want to scale your call centre operations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

Reporting. The built-in reporting features are very limited and static. You can’t customise even a basic report. The Freshdesk integration also doesn’t provide full CTI capabilities, and to get that you have to use a third-party tool at an additional cost. As a result, if you want to make sense of your data, capture all the metrics you need, and visualise them properly, you end up exporting the data and doing the work manually outside of 3CX. "Vendor-Independent, Easy-to-Manage Licensing That Fits Anywhere"
4.5/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

The licensing structure, vendor independence, and overall ease of management stand out to me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

Cost-Effective: Charges per concurrent call, not per user.

Flexible: Deploy anywhere (cloud or on-prem) with your choice of SIP provider and hardware.

All-in-One: Includes mobile apps, web conferencing, live chat, and WhatsApp integration.

Feature-Rich: Enterprise call center tools (queues, recording, CRM popups) included. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Unmatched Value: 3CX’s Feature-Rich PBX That Just Works"
5/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

3CX's feature set to price value is all but unmatched in the industry. Emerging AI tools combined with an easy-to-deploy, use, and maintain PBX. 3CX is a no-brainer for technical directors, service providers, and telecommunications resellers alike, simply because it just works and it works well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

There are a few minor, niche reporting tools I’d personally like to see, mainly for my own and my partners’ specific use cases. That said, my “complaints” are really just edge-case requests, which honestly speaks well of 3CX overall. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy-to-Use Calling with Seamless Mobile Access"
4.5/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

I like how easy 3CX is to use. It stays on my desktop when I open other programs, and it's easy to connect my Bluetooth headphones. I can use the app on my laptop or mobile, and my phone app connects when I'm away from my building, so I don't have to take my laptop to receive calls. I can review my calls, see how long I was on the phone and when a call started, and call a number back without searching the database again. I can also put a client on hold, conference in a teammate for help, and add team-member nicknames for quick dial. The setup was very easy, and I think 3CX is really good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

I find the ringtones a little jarring and would like a different option, though there may already be a setting to change them that I just haven’t looked into. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Efficient Communication with Seamless CRM Integration"
4.5/5
What do you like best about 3CX?

I like that 3CX has an easy-to-use interface, a super fast GUI, and strong connectivity. The integration with Pipedrive is particularly helpful because it allows us to make calls directly from the CRM, which means no manual entry of phone numbers into 3CX. I also appreciate the call management, call recording, and mobile app features, which enable us to stay connected and respond immediately, even when I'm not at my desk. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about 3CX?

Sometimes I find 3CX's interface a little complicated, and I think the setup and configuration could be simpler. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
