Executive recruiting firms are a subset of recruitment agencies that focus specifically on hiring C-suite talent. Hiring new executives is expensive and time consuming, with high financial risks. Thus, businesses rely on specialized firms to lead the searches for chief executive officers (CEO), chief financial officers (CFO), and members of a board of directors. These firms also fulfill other executive positions (sometimes known as CxO or CXO).

Some executive recruiting firms focus solely on executive search, while others offer it as a part of other recruiting and consulting services. Many assist with every stage of the process, including sourcing the initial talent, vetting potential fits, running interviews, qualifying or assessing related job capabilities, checking references, extending job offers, and even following up with related training or development services.

The major difference is the scale of these services. While recruiting agencies find talent in high demand, executive recruiting firms focus on the C-suite.
