**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

This is one of the best rendering software I ever used. It is possible to customize pretty almost every material in many possible ways. It isn't really user friendly at first, but when you learn to use it, it can be very powerful.

It isn't user friendly at first, but it can still be used at first by someone who doesn't know anything about rendering.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

Vray is constantly evolving. The SketchUp version is now awesome with the new update (3.5). It is near to the version of 3ds max which is great for SketchUp

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is possible to create photorealistic rendering with ease and create various presentations (section cuts rendering, etc)

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

Talking about render engines and their settings or properties is really hard because despite they're one as a software, they're considered "plugins" to the actual modeling software, that's why they're called render engines because their purpose is to just serve as an engine for that specific task. However, Vray has done a pretty nice job over the years providing with less work and more quality for its users, setting presets and a faster way to make textures and a more easy interface than any other engines. What I personally like the most about Vray is the quality of the final product, because of the default engines from the most famous modeling products like Autodesk, honestly, suck. I would highly recommend using a third party software like Vray with a modeling program just because of that reason. 

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

What I don't like from Vray, and this is probably because I am not a PRO on this, is that you have to know a lot of technical stuff and really study or know what are the settings or each thing is for, because the more you mess with the presets, the more you be on your way to either get a more realistic end product, or to burn your computer, or get an awfull render.

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This software provides a lot of quality when rendering, and most of all it provides your client with that esthetic, real and pretty image that they paid for. If you really know how to use it you can even create almost better images than a professional photo of a camera.

I love the final product I get when setting its options the right way, It takes some time to learn the best way to get through it, but I assure you it is worth it.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

V-ray does a great job on rendering. It has all it takes to get photo-realistic renders. It uses CPU and GPU. has a great real-time rendering speed and quality. It's hard to think of something you don't have control over when it comes to rendering using V-ray. You can use its render elements separately and combine them in Photoshop Nuke etc and have maximum control over every pass such as reflections secular refraction etc. V-ray provides different algorithms to render out the global illuminations such as brute force irradiance map and light cache that give different speed and quality results. Back in a days you would have to take control over so much things just to get mid quality render but nowadays you can use V-ray just out of the box. If you have limited time you can even set maximum duration limit over rendering and it will give you the best possible result by the end of the timer. You can also render images faster with  a little noise and let v-ray's denoiser take care of the rest

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

V-ray is a little crushy and buggy sometimes. To change the intensity and color of the lights you need to combine everything in post production phase using photoshop nuke or others unlike Corona where you can do that right within the buffer

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

V-ray is by far the best rendering engine out there if you're looking for Photorealism. The second rendering engine to date Corona renderer is much slower compared to V-Ray. By the way if you're about to switch from V-Ray to Corona know that they are collaborating and both engines will get the best of each other

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use V-ray for architectural visualization for both animation and still images

I like the most the quality of the renders, how creates the light and the extremely good output of reflective surfaces

I don't like the new camera settings, in the previous version there were much more options.

I'm getting amazing images that the client cannot imagine by themselves. It's much easier to give a render and show to the client some possibles differences for "free"

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

I like the way everything rendered in V-Ray looks much better than you would assume it will look. With a little bit of experimentation you can surpass your own expectations. There are also a lot of tutorials online (not necessarily just by Chaos Group) that are dissected step by step

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

No 2 results will ever look the same! V-Ray is more of an art than a science. If you need 2 renderings to look similar in style, I have found that this is very hard to achieve.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

V-Ray 3.0 is much more friendly to use than V-Ray 2.0. I would suggest upgrading if you have the chance. The interface is much more intuitive. Something that I have never really looked into is adjusting the Globals after a render. Although I am sure that these are very powerful, I usually just use Photoshop immediately after a render for post processing. This leads to another important point- don't be disheartened if it doesn't look perfect after rendering! That is what Photoshop is meant for!

Everybody loves renderings! They are great in that they communicate an intention clearly to those who are not familiar with the ins and outs of design and technical drawings. It has always been and is becoming even more of a powerful communication tool

I like the ability to make realistic renderings. It is always helpful to have a program that allows you to create real-life like images.

I dislike all the properties you have to go through. It can be a little confusing. I recommend streamlining the process.

We are able to show clients/mentors images of our ideas. It is helpful for them to see what we are thinking, and allows us to translate our idea more effectively.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

Signifigantly better than the built in Rhino and Sketchup render engine.  It also adds several elements that aren't normally available in either program.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

How the licensing server works, but I have adjusted to it since I learned on 1.5 and 4.5.1 requires a bit more thought.

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Aside from getting happier students with better projects, we have managed to improve the speed and quality of the renderings on our render farm.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

Vray is widely used in majority of the production industry so it is a huge plus to know how to handle this tool. It has a new feature with the scan materials which I think is quite interesting.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

Still unresolved issues which I expect to be fixed with the updates. The updates have less to offer and I think they could improve more with every version.

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it primarily for high end print media productions. The fact that it is used widely allows me to access active communities every time that I have a question.

The rendering engine is the best CPU based engine so far. Quite fast and great output even in default setting.

The brute-force engine take too long too render. It has great quality but for me it just too long to wait.

The possibility to make all the effects and materials you desire. You can even add density of the air. the library online of materials is almost infinite.

Vray its a bit complex for beginners and the first impression could be very confusional.

Just see a lot of tutorials before starting and be sure the software you're using is compatible.

I use it to realize realistic renderings of cars for my company. You can do also animations. 
When I have to be fast because I have a presentation this is a really good software.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

All the environment features, with the lights setups which are pretty more realistic than the other rendering softwares. It's a challenging software with great compatibility. A faster and easier-to-understand render engine that is much more precise and totally adaptable to the skills of novice and advanced artists. In summary: it is a much more versatile V-Ray version.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

the complexity of the user interface. Need to be more intuitive and less functional maybe. Sometimes, when you try to import 3D files, you get an error , it's a pain to spend 2 days for only the compatibility between the softwares. Some other softwares has integrate a convertor of 3D files.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

Try it and test it with our own 3D. Because sometime, you take 3D from internet bank and with several different size or kind of file and it's not work everytime. So check it with you own production made on a 3D software, Solidworks, Alias Studio, 3DS Max , Maya etc... 
A little tip, V-ray will prefer the Polygonal kind of file, it will be faster for rendering and you will get less problems with functionality. 
For my part, it's a really good software and I recommend for everyone who would like to have great renders.

With this software, you can easily make your product alive and so, sell it on website like kickstater. More than Keyshot for example, you can show faster the final render of your product with the optimise render real in time engine.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

V-Ray is one of the most optimized renderers available across a variety of host 3d applications ranging from free softwares like Blender, sketch-up, all the way upto 3ds max, Maya and compositing softwares like Nuke. Its various indirect illumination algorithms are well suited for almost any kind of scene ranging from simple primitives to very high-poly high detailed complex scenes, the ability to substitute Highres mesh at render time using V-Ray proxy is a necessity in complex scenes and keeps the viewport light and interactive for the host application. The available render elements/passes fulfill any type of cg compositing needs and that too fast given it's exceptionally fast render times. Interactive rendering using V-ray RT is a boon.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

Cannot preview displacement in V-Ray RT. slightly slower when compared to the likes of Corona renderer. needs to have an unbiased rendering algorithm with the lines of Indigo, Luxrender, Maxwell, Arnold. Cost is steep for individual artist.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

If you need a fast no hassle renderer, Vray is well suited for you.

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vray, allows for highres renders with a high level of detail very consistently. and the ability to re-render patches on top without refreshing the entire framebuffer is a time-saver, the newly added masked rendering mode adds to the time saving.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

- As I am rendering using Vray (for 3dsStudioMax) for most than 8 years, I have to say I quite love everything about it .
- Newer versions with RT are very useful and really fast using a good graphic card .
- Vray it's the most advanced software in the industry for rendering, It has complex materials / Camaera/Lights
I like that is a plugin integrated in the 3d software , so it's not necessary to export the files .
- Great compatibility between 3dsmax Materials and Vray Materials . 
- Multiple types of light: Spheriphical / Dome / Planar / Circular 
- Vray CarPaint - Avdanced materials for Automotive industry - Very easy to customize and obtain outstanding results.


**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

- The Rendering Settings interface is not too easy for a begginer.
- Vray Rt crashes quite often.
- Vray Rt is still missing some compatibility tweaks , as long you can easily get some errors compared to normal version.
- Compared to the older versions, they are making Vray more complicated, and I don't think all interface changes are necessary. 


**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

- If someone want to learn rendering, Vray would be my first option.
- If someone is looking for a the most advanced tool for rendering , that is also compatible with a lot of 3d softwares  like Maya/Max/Cinema4d/Sketchup etc - Vray is the answer

His complete set of tools they are perfect for creating photorealistic images on architectural projects, 
textures , lights, environments, everything can be manipulated to achieve perfection renderings with a professional and competitive quality.

Despite being an advanced rendering engine with little knowledge you can get to make very good jobs.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

I do not like the difulcultad it is for a new user interact with the software, its interface is a bit confusing.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

I think they should make a much easier interface, a little more intuitive, this software has users who are just beginning in this rendering  world and they not have the basic knowledge to operate the software effectively.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

Very good and predictable render time. Big shader library and new algorithm for Anti aliasing calculation.
Real time distributed rendering. New Vray has simple and clean interface. Interlinked tabs are right next to each other. Great tool to create custom shaders.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

Vray passes tends to create lot of noise unexpectedly during compositing. Car paint shades is still not reliable for production purpose because of flakes tiling. The global subdiv introduced in the latest Vray is not friendly for high res render because it turns render time very high.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

Good rendering engine for quick turn around in any production scenario. Lot of support available through forums and  other medium for Problem solving.

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Take the advantage of distributed render by connecting any computer for extra thread which reduces huge render time. You can save the Raw render image data (vrimg) and reload it without actually rendering the whole from start

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

Vray allows you to reach the highest standards in rendering. Once you master the software you will be able to create photography-like renders. At the same time, the software is versatile enough to create simple images that can simulate a massing exercise or a sketch.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

Vray is not easy to learn and control. The interface is quite complicated and full of commands. Becoming a power user is not only a matter of using the software long enough like with other programs. Vray must be studied. Fortunately there are a lot of guides and tutorials.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

At the beginning you have to model 2 cubes and try all the different options/materials. If you want to go one (and two and three..) steps further, you have to read a lot of guides and spend a considerable time learning the software.

**What problems is V-Ray solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest advantage for a company to have a Vray in-house power user is that you do not have to pay for a 3rd party renderer, which coordination is time and money consuming.

The integration with Rhino is very handy, easy to adjust my model and then render. Accurate BRDF modes are also quite useful.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

Slow slow render times unless a render farm is available. No usable live preview, lags far behind real time preview of keyshot/octane and others.

**Recommendations to others considering V-Ray:**

V-ray takes a lot of up front effort to learn, but is well worth it too achieve extremely high fidelity images.

Is very fast and the results are very photorealistic. New versions always feel like an improvement.

It has lots of options and sometimes they are not so easy to understand. The latest version really helped with this problem.

**What do you like best about V-Ray?**

VRay has a crisp and smooth quality. We often render without applying textures or colors, and VRay provides lovely massing models in all white.

**What do you dislike about V-Ray?**

Sometimes the settings can be finicky; lighting in particular is not always obvious to work with, but mostly very manageable. It's reasonably fast but some larger renders do take up a lot of memory/time.

Even for simple visualizations, clients love to see progress massings. It's useful for us as we develop the design in-house as well to have better understandings of space and light quality.

user interface is too clumsy and too advanced that makes its learning curve very slow and hard to pick up.
