Test faster with production-perfect environment clones without touching production Analyze code to generate infrastructure configuration, expose infrastructure context through MCP servers to coding assistants, and provide production-grade environments where agents and humans can test changes against representative data. Teams can run RAG, CAG, and agent workflows alongside conventional services using existing Git processes. Every major cloud, every major language, one unified platform Upsun’s Multi-Cloud and Edge capabilities let platform teams choose the cloud provider and region that best fits each application, without changing how they build or operate it. A consistent platform layer handles provider-specific differences, helping teams meet performance, regulatory, and regional requirements without fragmenting workflows or maintaining custom infrastructure for each provider. ## Upsun Reviews
  ### 1. Ace fast hosting that's great for developers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James W. | Senior Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform's integrations with git, and configuration-as-code make its hosting great for developers. Pretty ace support and documentation too. It won't be for everyone (e.g. those who need something much simpler, or a fully hosted SaaS, or something *very* cheap), but great for my needs as a developer who doesn't want to have to maintain server infrastructure etc.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

It's not perfect - e.g. some domain providers don't support CNAMEs to be used for the non-www version of domains, and sometimes activities get stuck due to unnecessary dependencies in activity queues (e.g. there's no need to block tearing down an environment on activities to update those environments). But I've never found an issue that can't be worked around or discussed with Platform's support team!

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can focus on what we're good at (building applications) and rely on what Platform.sh are good at (hosting) instead of trying to run that ourselves.

  ### 2. Excellent support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul W. | Consultant learning solutions, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Excellent support and security. The process of deploying a site works fine although documentation can be complex if you do this for the first time

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I believe documentation can be better for novices in the field. Although I always received excellent help if I got stuck.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting a Django web application that is essential for my business

  ### 3. Reliable and performance service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Trent S. | Head of technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Easy to use (once you understand how it works), reliable, performance and great support

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Unable to retrieve Sendgrid DKIM records without a support request plus having to setup new records per environment (they don't cascade down)

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A reliable hosting solution for our clients

  ### 4. Always patient and helpful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thibault-Pierre G. | Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

I think everything is moving to a right direction (following updates and good practices), because to me I feel it's built by developers for developers (I guess not only developers but you get my point). Also, everything went alsmost smoothly sor far, in terms of deployments, auto backups and so on.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I feel it lacks of documentation for some specific configurations. I did try, pretty often, to find online on diverse forums and specific websites and blogs how to make that service or this specific feature works with platform.sh

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Continuous delivery and the fact to be mainly focused on the development of the applications.

  ### 5. Reliable, affordable devops automation for product companies and agencies

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lukas Kahwe S. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Removes the need for devops skills while still having access to a broad range of services (at no additional cost per service), highly reliable and great support and pro-active security.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Auto-scaling is missing at the moment. For now we just scale on a fixed schedule.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* no need for a dedicated devops team
* flexibility to quickly implement additional services when needed
* ability to preview changes
* ability to duplicate production to fix issues that require production data

**Official Response from Raphaël Tinot:**

> Dear Lukas,
thanks for your review, we're happy to have provided the benefits and care you were looking for.

We're also happy to share that our commitment to GreenIT has been noticed, and that we take this responsibility to heart, for ourselves, and most importantly for our customers.

  ### 6. Look no further

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barry F. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Security, ease of use, best in class PaaS provider. Clients and technical staff alike get the benefit of a managed hosting environment. More valuable work gets done as a result with all the pesky technical server admin details taken care of. Ease to manage budgets with fixed monthly fees.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Opaque pricing for enterprise solution. Lack of ISO27001 for UK market (although SOC 2 compliance is a good enough replacement for most cases).

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ensuring client pay for value add work - not Linux server administration
Speed and predictability of deployments via automated tasks
Standardisation in maintaining projects with different clients
Read only deployed environment for added security
Cost-effective solution in most cases

  ### 7. Excellent technical support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Events Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2024

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Offloads server maintenance, fast infrastructure, solid customer support, reasonable pricing

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There are no direct competitors, so migrating to a different, uh, platform ;) would be a signficant effort.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vastly simplifies the process of provisioning, installing, configuring, and maintaining web servers.

  ### 8. If your project is too small for an own (Dev)ops-Team - Platform.sh is you solution !

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bernhard Z. | Inhaber, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Just works. Like an Apple product but for Drupal Hosting. Easy to extend (Elastic Search, Redis Cache, ...).

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Could be more scalable in case of High traffic events.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automated Deployment of Test-Environemnts, Hosting, Backups

  ### 9. One of our best decisions in a decade

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Markus H. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

What do we like best? Well, we like everything about Platform.sh. Before we decided to migrate our hosting environment to Platform.sh in the early years of the company's existence, we used unmanaged virtual private servers. It was a nightmare for us, we are developers, not system administrators. To achieve a stable and secure hosting environment for our many projects was highly time consuming and kept us up for too many nights while the result was still below par. We knew we had to change something and started testing services like Heroku and DigitalOcean. Nothing we tested really fulfilled our expectations, nothing felt like it had been built for developers who didn't want to think about servers. Rather these solutions were built for sysadmins who wanted to be faster and deploy large numbers of applications easily. We wanted to deploy small numbers of complex PHP projects easily without worrying about servers, firewalls, certificates, etc. When we finally found Platform.sh it felt like this service had been built especially for us. It did everything we had imagined perfectly and has been steadily improved ever since.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

We don't dislike anything, really. Sometimes we see things we'd like to be improved or things we think are missing. Then we talk to Platform.sh, and they listen. There have been so many user-driven improvements over the past years. We couldn't wish for a more customer-oriented hosting partner than Platform.sh.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can deploy new customer projects within minutes without ever worrying about the server-side. We include a configuration file in our code that tells Platform.sh what versions of PHP, MySql, and Redis our application needs, what routes it needs, what disk mounts, and other things. Then we git push to platform, and that's it. Platform.sh will spin up all necessary containers, run our deployment code, install an SSL certificate and then run our software. It's ~0 sysadmin, ~0 downtime, push-to-deploy magic.

  ### 10. Agency and Enterprise Partner

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The deployment model, the ability to have any type of project container that we want (not limited to just WordPress, etc.), and the support from the Platform.sh team.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

We have had a lot of account rep transition as of late, and communication has definitely suffered.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Platform.sh is a great tool, but it does have a bit of a learning curve. But with that curve comes great control and abilities!

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having Platform.sh handle all our hosting and security challenges for websites via PaaS has been a huge time and money saver for us.

  ### 11. Easy-peasy hosting provider

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vladimir S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2023

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Easy deployments, Good support on high-priority issues, Awesome uptime, Easy to configure and go online. Many services are available for use.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Pretty high price for single devs to go online with personal, non-commercial projects. Slow response on low-priority support tickets. Rigid configurable Redis container.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us to provide a fantastic service for our customers. So they can access it without any downtime from over the world.

  ### 12. Problem solver for hosting your projects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steffen K. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

- (Semi)-Automatic scaling of projects
- Sizing and architecture consulting
- Test environment and deployment architecture
- Kind and professional service
- Technical support

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

- Self service dedicated projects and scaling
- Zero downtime deployments (on the roadmap)
- More flexibility in sizing grid projects (CPU, RAM, HDD)
- Pricing for storage

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't have to build up any hosting know-how and can concentrate entirely on the area of dev ops. Scaling problems are a thing of the past. Finally, a clean template can now be used for all systems and Platform.sh takes care of versioning completely.

  ### 13. Easy PaaS Solution for CI

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

It just works and you can just get rid of so many obstacles in a manually built CI Pipeline. It really helps us a lot and speeds up the process by hours each time

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

It took platform.sh some time to get to the feature level they have today. In the past (<2020) it was only usable in very standard software projects and we moved out of that scope quite fast. But luckily this has changed

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Everything comes out of the box and you can rely on it to work properly. Taking your own choice regarding the Cloud infrastructure in the back is very beneficial for clients that want to integrate it into their existing infrastructure e.g. MS Azure

  ### 14. Best cloud Drupal hosting provider we've used over the past 10 years

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Feargal O. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The ability to easily adapt and update the hosting environment depending on the needs of our clients. Supporting over 80 sites on the service - some that we've built and some that we just support means that there are a wide range of ways that Drupal has been implemented. having the flexibility to have different flavours of PHP, MariaDB, Solr and Drupal core within the same overall hosting package is invaluable.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The inability to stop a build if it becomes blocked is an issue

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

It is very different to traditional hosting - but it is worth sticking at it as the benefits of the build and deployment process are well worth it..

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We support over 80 Drupal sites across three different versions. Platform allowed us to standardise our hosting in one place - with smaller clients and enterprise clients alike all using the same build and deployment processes. The secure nature of the platform and the choice of hosting locations makes Platform a logical fit for an agency like ours selling into the UK and EU markets.

  ### 15. Great service & support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jerome Z. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

As a project manager, I can create branches or sync content from the main environment to a test environment without support of a developer. The UI is clear and easy to understand. The support answers within a reasonable time and is usually very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The high quality has a considerable higher price than other platforms.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Platform.sh helps us in our daily work as a web agency.

  ### 16. Perfect solution for hosting a project

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicolas A. | Web Developer eZ Publish - Founder, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

We use Platform.sh since some years and this solution is perfect for hosting project.
With PSH, your project is always available and performances are better.
Use PSH is the assurance to deliver a high quality hosting solution for our customers

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Nothing, this solution is powerful and we love working this Platform SH.
As a developer, you need to understand how deployment words before put your project in production

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing

  ### 17. Great experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas H. | Drupal Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2018

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

It is a solution built with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery in mind.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

It is a great service offering. There are new features added all the time that make it a more appealing service every month.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

If you need to pass client billing along to the client, then Pantheon is a competitor that will let you do that.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I host client sites on platform as my recommended hosting partner.

  ### 18. Simplifying DevOps for a small team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin P. | Module Contributor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The deploying of changes, and updates with a simple commit. No messing around with making thrid party CI/CD systems work with your host and no additional CI/CD costs.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

They charge per developer on an account. This makes little sense to me and penalizes smaller teams trying to grow as they have higher cost than large agencies who get unlimited users. It would make more sense to just charge solely for the resources each client needs and nothing to do with my agency and number of devs I won't to have access to the site.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It simplifies all of our DevOps, leaving us to focus on the client's build and not worry about the server. So we don't need a dedicated DevOps persons and I'm freed up to focus on more important tasks.

  ### 19. Very powerful, steep learning curve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charles J. | Senior Web Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2022

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

If you need a dev, stage, or prod platform, then Platform.Sh provides a rock-solid Linux environment. It integrates well with a number of build pipelines, and is more flexible than Gumby after a Yoga class.
If command line ops don't scare you, they are a very good choice.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

You don't get direct SSH access (as you would with a self-hosted Linux environment.) Your access point is a layer above, via config files. There IS a bit of a learning curve to this, but it is well worth the time invested. (It is leaps-and-bounds more configurable than competing GUI-Only solutions.) But if you make a mistake, the subsequent mess can be harder to clean-up.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Good Drupal support. Read the docs, then talk to a rep, before you buy. (The reps are great!) It can be a complex system to get running, it is not as simple as a drag-and-drop GUI, but substantially more powerful.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dev and staging platform for building commercial Drupal 8 sites for a LEMP stack.

  ### 20. Excellent company to work with!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Building Materials | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh is all about the people, the staff they employ are of the highest quality and genuinely believe in their product.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Honestly not run into anything I dislike yet

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Give it a go and chat with their support team on slack, you wont be dissapointed!

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Had to migrate approx 30 ancient wordpress sites across to platform.sh and the team were a fantastic help.
Security bieng read only is fantastic and provides some peace of mind.

  ### 21. Good level of services

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Regis L. | Chief information officer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Proactive monitoring of our hosted solutions
Actions to troubleshoot the incidents detected

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Low level of business relationships,
Yearly report would be appreciated

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting of our corporate websites ensuring they are always online

  ### 22. Great hosting partner,

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bram t. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Two of the things about Platform.sh that I enjoy immensely are their ability to (let you) automate processes and their focus on security.

As a SaaS company, we're using Platform.sh to run most of our projects. We're actively using their APIs to automate this process. The APIs are well documented and integrating this into our systems is straightforward.

Platform.sh takes the hassle out of hosting security. Having data at-rest encrypted, read-only file mounts and the necessary compliance (SOC 2 type 2) is a benefit for any organization serious about their security.

Our developers simply enjoy using Platform.sh.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

It can be hard to determine when you need to upgrade projects to different plans. We've integrated different tools (easy and straightworward1) to help monitor usage and detect issues, having some of that out of the box would've been better.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're deploying new (demo) sites on a daily basis. By now we've probably had well over a thousand sites running on Platform.sh. Having the ability to automate our processes using their APIs has been a tremendous benefit to our business.

In the end, a lot of decisions boil down to money. With Platform.sh you no longer have to think about upgrading your server to a new PHP version, it's just a one-line change. Deploying a new feature and having your marketing team checking it out is a 5 minutes task.
Platform.sh costs money, but you'll also save a lot of it if you think about the time your engineering team can spend on business-critical features.

  ### 23. Awesome solution for all our projects!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michiel K. | Managing Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

All of it :-) We've migrated almost our full stack to Platform.sh, and as the platform allows us to manage almost every aspect of the hosting, we had no trouble at all. It's only in rare cases, we tend to reach out to Platform.sh excellent service (Slack, tickets,...) to help us out. Edge cases where we need complex architecture are figured out together, where all P.sh engineers are almost fully dedicated to help us out. I'm not sure what to list as "best", this kind of service or the product itself. Probably the combination of both. Projects running on P.sh are almost zero-worry and we can give some really good assurances to all our clients.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

At this point, we have over 40 projects and 18 team members. There is no way to manage this in bulk, which leads to a lot of manual actions. But imporovements have been shown during the Agency roadshows, so we're looking forward for these new features. The lack of detailed metrics goes the same way. Nothing in place yet, but future plans show some decent improvements on this topic.
The grid setup is something else worth mentioning. If an issue occurs (which it rarely does), a lot of projects are affected at the same time. This is a busy peak on our own service level, but we can handle this :-)

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Taking full control of our hosting solutions is the biggest benefit. Never having to wait on upgrades or updates, but having the ability to handle almost every complex task. Taking backups, renewing certificates, syncing environments, upgrading PHP/Solr/Elastic/... versions,... All to be done with really minor changes in the configuration files.

  ### 24. Perfect platform to host your app

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Serhey D. | Lead Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh itself is very flexible. You can upgrade the PHP version or add an extension just by changing one single line in the configurations. Also, you can very easy to fire up a bunch of services (Solr/Redis/Varnish/etc)
and will not require any k8s/docker knowledge. And their support is very responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

This one is very hard to answer. I still can not find an answer after thinking a few minutes.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

After migrating to Platform.sh we forgot about managing the servers for most of our customers. And it just made our life much more enjoyable.

  ### 25. A game changing experience for non-technical business users

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Events Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

We are a Swiss company with multiple B2B brands, one of which is a major SaaS ticketing platform. As our brand portfolio is growing, and we want to enable new digital marketing strategies, we contracted a specialised agency to develop our new multi-brand, multi-language, and multi-territory website. This is a complex process, and the agency is frequently releasing new versions of this website that need to be reviewed by various business users. With Platform.sh, this is extremely easy, as they can spin up a new branch of the site in just minutes, while cloning the entire content of the production server, merged with the new code. This is an incredible time-saver, and also means fewer errors. It also means that long term maintenance of the site will be considerably easier for both parties.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

For the moment we have these very long and complex URLs for every development branch. It would be better to see shorter and easier to understand version numbers straight in the URL.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster and more reliable quality assurance. We are able to release more frequent versions of a very complex website, without any conflicts between test, staging and production.

  ### 26. Innovative hosting platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert R. | Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

- They are constantly trying to innovate with automation processes that make it easier for developers to integrate it within their development cycle.
- The platformsh terminal tool is helpful without the need to open the interface every time.
- Easy to add multiple services (redis/solr etc.) with just the click of a button and also up to date versions
- Debugging on production with xdebug integration or opening a tunnel
- Integration with external partners (New relic, github, bitbucket)

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

- Downtime can sometimes be hard to solve yourself. You are at the mercy of platformsh support. They have a general troubleshooting sheet, but when those don't work you cannot restart the server as an example.
- It can be hard to balance workers to get the best performance for your site. Increasing resources can be more costly than having your own server, so you need to dive a bit deeper into performance (which you could also see as a plus point)
- Missing the ability to set custom domains at branches other than master (and you are stuck with .site with is seen as untrustworthy by a lot services/blacklists)
- You cannot really trust on their snapshot for long term solutions. You cannot substract specific data from it. But also a plus point as it goes really fast to create a snapshot making it ideal for deployment rollbacks.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automating the infrastructure problems we don't want to think about. Server maintenance, integrations etc.

  ### 27. Fast and reliable infrastructure for our projects

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Their tools allow our developers to focus on what matters and don’t worry about infrastructure.

Platform.sh assigned a success manager and technical people to help us in the onboarding process. The migration for our projects from Kubernetes (GKE) to Platform.sh went flawless.

The environments are very stable, backups are being created daily, and their support team answers questions quickly.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There is nothing really that we dislike. There are some features that we miss, like metrics and external logging with Papertrail.

Platform.sh is listening very well to their customers, so we hope we will see those features in the near future.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

A great cloud hosting provider with a high degree of automation.
Easy to use.
Good support.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The primary problems we've solved are:

- Git integration.
- Bundled and optimized Fastly CDN.
- Included staging environment with easy promotion to production.
- Streamlining development and testing.
- Easy creation, restore of backups.

  ### 28. Infrastructure at your fingertips

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh allows me to quickly set up web applications with a wide variety of dependencies and different service configurations. Their YAML-based configuration-as-code approach combined with their git-branch-is-an-environment philosophy makes it effortless to test updates to applications or service configurations and deploy them to production once you're happy. Their API makes it easy to build bespoke automations to fit our workflow in spinning up new projects and deploying our applications.

My favourite moment was when their PHP SDK showed some undocumented API mechanics that would make our lives easier. After asking about it the engineers dove into it, found that the API hadn't been used in years, and currently wasn't working. A day later they notified me that they had fixed the issue and documented the feature. We've been happily using that part of the API ever since.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

As Platform.sh has grown we have seen some pains that you expect from a growing organisation. Although a rare occurence my own knowledge of how Platform.sh works (or used to work) has on occasion surpassed that of a support representative. With that said the Platform.sh processes work well enough to involve a more senior representative when that occurs to help solve the problem. Their Slack support is also great, which means even their senior engineering leadership is never far away for the extremely niche questions.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Platform.sh to deploy our product in many different configurations with different service requirements. Their API has been vital in allowing us to spin up the right project size automatically. Their YAML files have made it easy to automate service configuration using Ansible. Could we get the same thing done using AWS or Azure Cloud directly? Possibly, but we'd have to hire a lot of full-time employees to replace all the pain that Platform.sh currently handles for us such as downtime monitoring, resource usage monitoring, server updates. In some cases Platform.sh has even used their web application filter to mitigate possible vulnerabilities for our web framework of choice on the day it was announced.

  ### 29. Very efficient and pleasant to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

We have been using Platform.sh in our web development team for several years. We have improved not only our efficiency and productivity but also the security of our web applications.
And to be honest, our contacts at Platform.sh have always listened to our problems and tried to help us every time.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There is very little to complain about. In the beginning, some areas were a bit unreliable, but again the Platform.sh teams were able to correct the situation and propose solutions quickly.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In a multidisciplinary web development team, designers and developers must all be able to collaborate and see the results. As we have been working with Git for a long time, the integration between Git and Platform.sh has allowed us to improve our teamwork. The fact that we were able to work on development, staging and production environments very quickly and efficiently was also a plus.

  ### 30. Since using Platform.sh I don’t have worry to wake up at night

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ivo M. | Head of Digital, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

With Platform.sh I don’t have to worry about the performance, availability and capacity of our hosting. Their tools allow our developers to focus on what matters and don’t worry about infrastructure. We are very flexible on what we need, for e.g., you need node.js, just add it to your config file and Platform.sh takes care of if.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Really nothing to dislike on Platform.sh. We never encounter any blocker when we wanted to use or change something on our hosting. Really customer service takes a bit too long to answer a request, but other than that the service is great for us.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

If you have a small team, use an Open Source CMS (or you own as well, it doesn’t matter). If you don’t want to be the on-duty person our of working hours. If you want to deploy any time (even on Friday). If you don’t want to worry about security. If your goal is just to code and push and see it working only. Platform.sh is the ideal service for you.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a media company, our day-to-day traffic can jump 200-300% more from the previous day. Depending on what we publish, we are often targets of DDoS or hackers. We also have to be very responsive to the news and sometimes we need to publish changes to our website. Platform.sh allows us to focus on our content and don’t worry about audience spikes, attacks and DDoS and to deploy several times a day without disrupting the experience of our readers. The deployment is totally transparent for them.

**Official Response from Raphaël Tinot:**

> Ivo, thank you for your business, and I am glad to hear you enjoyed the engagement.

  ### 31. Very happy with move from fixed infrastructure to Platform.sh

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Saaed F. | Director of Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

SportRx moved it website hosting infrastructure from a traditional fixed footprint vendor to Platform.sh and AWS about 9 months ago. The new environment has been very stable and Platform.sh support has been very proactive and timely. Their Magento expertise were very valuable in optimizing our Platform.sh environment as well as the included Fastly CDN to improve our site's performance and stability.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

At the moment, the Platform.sh portal lacks customer visible metrics and notifications. But this is being addressed and we have been beta testers of their upcoming metrics functionality.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The primary problems we've solved with Platform.sh are:
- An easily scalable cloud infrastructure compared to our previous fixed footprint environment.
- Triple redundancy at both web server and database server layers.
- Included staging environment with easy promotion to production.
- Git integration.
- Bundled and optimized Fastly CDN.
- Magento optimization expertise.

  ### 32. Fast and excellent migration to the new environment.

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Responsiveness of the team that we worked with in all of the phases: planning, migration and post migration.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There is not a single thing i could point to as something we disliked. There were things that could have gone a bit better but that is negligible.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our client was reaching the limits of the professional tiers on the Platform.sh and for some time we were thinking about the switch to the dedicated setup. Once we found out that client will be featured on one big TV show we made decision and needed to act fast. Together with Platform.sh team we were able to move from the grid to the dedicated setup within two days thus enabling client to survive 55000 concurrent users on the website which resulted in 17000 carts being created within four hours.

**Official Response from Raphaël Tinot:**

> This is awesome news and I'm glad we were able to help!

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Really simple and functional CI environment. Nice local development env using platform cmd.
Great support team

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The per dev env pricing can be a deterrent for new comers to organisation to learn. At 10 EUR not a lot, but sometimes adds up!

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

B2B customers are comforted by the off-the-shelf GDPR guarantees, developers like the dev server CI, Sales get very prompt support from platform tech team

  ### 34. Excellent service-level

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Cosmetics | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

We had two critical migrations to prepare and very short deadlines (less than two months).
Platform.sh provided an excellent support for delivering our projects on-time.
We had the onboarding phase with account managers and technical teams. We had a daily follow-up that enabled us to achieve our goals and a private channel to reach them easily. They ensure the technical tasks with our dev team with reactivity. We have been very impressed by their high quality job. In addition, we had a review together at the end of the project, 3 months later and we're still have semester follow up. I highly recommend Platform.sh for your projects. They have the best service-level ever.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

The projects were closed four months ago. For now, we have not found any downsides within our needs.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We migrated two websites with Platform.sh using their host and CICD.
We had some front-end issues quickly resolved in a short time.
We can easily deploy our packages within our needs.
Stil now, the two websites have no issue. We are satisfied.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I'm not aware of any problems or downsides.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Platform.sh for hosting the sites and services we build on Drupal for our customers. The easiness of spinning up new sites and environments for production, development or demo usage or setting up pipelines is really convenient.

  ### 36. Use platform.sh for dev & customers teams

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

to try is to adopt

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to homogenize the development practices and gain in speed of deployment

  ### 37. Platform.sh abstracts away hosting and infrastructure problems while remaining flexible.

The flexibility offered by Platform.sh's tools.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There are limited notification and alerting options out of the box.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Abstracting away infrastructure upgrades so that keeping our applications up to date is a simple code change.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aakash J. | Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The simplicity with which you can do things here are great.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

little resources to learn if you are new to this. Also Cron jobs cause little issue to web deployment. At first when you set up the platform command on your local you will get some headache because it requires you to have php installed along with some services turned on. Which I think can be improved but since there whole platform is dependent on php so it has to be there or if they can provide an .exe installer to install on windows so it will be great just a simple installer like software has.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

A good platform as a service here you will have a complete control on your machine as if its is your local computer not like others giving you some resources on rent.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I just came to give a try but it has been best giving you a free computer with no restrictions just do what you want to deploy with in a specific size.

  ### 40. "Phenomenal application hosting power, itty-bitty learning curve"

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | President / CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

One of the best things about Platform.sh is the fact that it basically enforces best practices development by basing itself on your project git repository. We all know a web application or website ought to use source code control, but practices vary from host to host and agency to agency. It also almost always excludes infrastructure from the equation.

On P.sh you manage your container configuration, build and deployment processes, and code all from within your git repository, and simply by creating a new branch in the repository you have a complete replica of your production environment for new development, hot fixing, or staging changes. It's incredible, especially when you finally hit those cases where code changes require infrastructure changes (e.g. to add and configure a Solr index for advanced search) and you can deploy everything to production at once by merging the branch to master ... with zero downtime for deployment.

The P.sh CLI and documentation are fairly robust, and their provide a wide variety of starting points for hosting different types of applications. I've yet to encounter a project that used a programming language they didn't already support. : )

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Platform.sh is a power tool and should be regarded as such when comparing price against budget hosts / shared servers. However, the price is still worth mentioning - you cannot run multiple application containers on the lowest priced plans for "heavier" applications like Drupal. You also need to pay attention to how many environments and users you're adding, as that can cause prices to scale out. When compared to what it would cost to build and manage the same infrastructure internally, though, it's a no brainer - we've enabled multiple enterprise customers to completely remove any internal sysadmin costs by migrating their application to P.sh, freeing those staff up for more productive application development.

When managing a wide variety of sites on P.sh, we found that we needed to introduce our own centrally managed logging service, as it isn't easy out of the box to track resource utilization / errors across many different projects. Fortunately, we found a tutorial in their documentation that our development team followed to tie into DataDog as a log manager for us.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Give it a shot! There's a good chance you'll be impressed and immediately see how it can save you or your customers time and money in the long run.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We host and manage complex eCommerce web applications. By using Platform.sh, we don't have to worry about whether or not the sites will stay online when we deploy new features or bug fixes to production. We know the results in advance and can even use build hooks to prevent a deployment in case automated tests identify regressions. Furthermore, we can use their API to manage any number of projects at once - e.g. to deploy updates to all of our managed customers using our standard offering without having to individually update each one. That feature really changed the game for us as we sought to bootstrap our SaaS.

  ### 41. A platform that works very well and is worth it.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** May L. | Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh is a system that is based on the support of improving the development of web applications, I like this software as it offers opportunities for a new approach to companies that are dedicated to designing and creating functional pages with different environments, I feel like it in explicit and alternative circumstances, since it helps the most vulnerable companies in productivity to daily growth, offering important data at the same time, to promote an idea of an undertaking into a possible fact.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Indecently we can emphasize that it does not contain a quality control management of each operation that any company wishes to carry out with this software, to provide its clients with indeterminable success, since this is not availability, which would be of great help at a general level , when operating the system, including that its user interface is not at all attractive and contains brief information about what the software is dedicated to being implemented initiative mind.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Is ideal for any category of companies, from saas entrepreneurs who seek to focus on their commercial value of operations and infrastructure of their web establishment, in a successful and effective way, according to the significant increase offered by this software of support in economic and structural growth, up to market leaders, to run their own cloud on the web, to obtain a massive income inflow, increasing its size more and more.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Platform.sh was integrated into the platform of our organization, as the main objective to achieve the innovations of each of our clients in their already initialized applications, since we mainly focus on our users, to offer them a special and unique service of According to the designs for their ventures, we fundamentally use this software to increase the productivity and performance of these individuals in a significant way, taking into account their entire operation on the web, that is, generally in every aspect that we support to improve successfully.

  ### 42. Focus where you need to

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle E. | CTO/Principal Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Using Platform.sh lets individuals and teams focus on the problems that are important to them. If you're running a complex ecommerce site and need to run applications/services across a whole suite of technologies that need to be tuned just right you can do that. If you're running a straight forward website that needs a dev environment and a live environment you can do minimal setup and spend more time coding. Both use cases and everything in between benefit from automated deployments, stable environments, and consistent development experiences.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

More feature than bug but many of the settings for an environment are only changeable via code and therefor require a deployment to change. Sometimes it's just inconvenient having to push code where other hosting providers allow the same changes to made through the interface.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prototyping and demo environments. When trying to get a quick demo or proof of concept in front of a client there's nothing worse than fighting with servers and hosting. Being able to quickly spin up entire new software stacks and prepared environments means less time fighting hardware and more time trying out new ideas.

Streamlining development and testing. Having stable environments available for feature branches allows me to share in progress work with other developers or give testers the ability to try new functionality before merging it.

Built in automated deployments and CI tooling. No longer is CI tooling another service with an additional cost that gets relegated to "nice to have" and "when we have time" territory.

  ### 43. Incredible experience as Drupal Developer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Júlio Hidemi K. | Drupal Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

I've used Platorm.sh here at MMDA and my experience has been amazing. Its a great platform, with good team support (which is important to me), good documentation, backup with snapshot format, database synchronization, ssh access, multiple environment and great CLI tool. It's super easy to configure with a simple .yml file.

It’s a reliable product. I highly recommend it to either a small site or a big one. It’s easy to configure/test multiple sites and multi-language Drupal sites. It’s an stable platform and pretty fast.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

I had some issues to deploy because of limit memory, but it was solved with team support. So for its all I can say.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

You can start with the best. Its not so expensive for trial, and you can use it for QA, then you will start to see all advantages.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple and fast deployment to start QA and show the development to your client in a couple hours.

  ### 44. It's reliable, scalable with a great tools, such as hooks for getting CI/CD running very quickly.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pierre M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

I love it's amazing flexibility and how easy to setup a hosting environment. With the out of the box hooks, it makes it super easy to setup CI/CD implementation with no additional costs. It also provides developers great flexibility and tools for different projects and requirements.
The ability to create multi testing environments with any branch on top of being able to run our default Dev/Stage/Prod git workflow environments is amazing. Allowing us to rapidly test and share with clients or among our teams.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Some of the php extensions are a bit old, blocking us from using some of the latest tools such as WebP imagery via ImageMagic extension. Also guaranteed SLA's are offered only on the highest subscription tiers.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Great cloud hosting provider. I recommend it 100%.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely rapid deployment with multiple testing environments. CI/CD with different workflows depending on our environment is a must for our day to day business and Platform.sh definitely meets those criteria.

  ### 45. Happy Site. Happy Dev.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sean D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

One of the biggest things I like is that controlling a site is simple enough and can be done through a YML configuration within the code. This allows for us to completely have complete control of things such as what services we need to add. What parts of the site need to be redirected to https. Including what type of site we need to support (PHP, ASP.net, C#, etc.). This alone can sometimes be a huge headache for developers that they don't know how to manage this and it causes projects to sometimes get misconfigured. Additionally, I am a fan of the documentation and community as this can help answer questions quicker when running into road blocks.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

For small sites the pricing can be a bit difficult and cause issues with budget. While $50 may not seem like a lot for sites that receive a small amount of traffic it can be a bit much. I know the argument can be made that with all that is offered through the lowest tiered service this is where the value comes in. I completely understand this but believe that this is the biggest hurdle I see. Additionally, in order to even get the site started and running the cost for a developer is a hit. The resources can't be guaranteed but as a developer we are still paying $10. To sum it up I believe my biggest dislike is pricing on how things are laid out.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem that was realized and was solved by moving to Platform.sh is the need to not have to manage infrastructure. That always seems to be the biggest headache for any project is having someone on staff to be able to manage those items. This right here is one of the biggest benefits. Additionally, the fact we have control over those settings (to a certain extent) is also a huge benefit as it is all documented.

  ### 46. Platform.sh is really cool and my personal favorite PaaS solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristiyan N. | Full-Stack Web Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

I like how easy to use and modern platform.sh i. Also I love that the customer support is really quick to answer and aid you if you have any problems. I like that you can host many different types of frameworks and solutions built with different tools on the platform.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There is nothing that I dislike about the platform.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used the platform for hosting Drupal websites. The main benefits for me are how easy it is to setup a project, and the different environments that you can spin up for example for dev/staging etc..

  ### 47. Reducing tasks that use to take days down to minutes.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The ability to add in services with one line of configuration

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Lack of out of the box performance metrics

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Try out migrating a site to it. Took me 3hours on P.sh. Took me a week on other stacks once upon a time.
Try adding a service like redis or Elasticsearch. Painless.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting sites that have multiple service requirements used to take lots of effort in terms of routing, caching, security, versioning. Now I can easily create my stack all with simple config. Most of the config already exists in terms of templates. However, rather than just relying on boilerplate I can tweak things to my hearts content.

Case in point. SSL certificates used to take an age to generate, configure etc... these are out of the box now.

Having multiple environments is usually difficult to set up however, now I can have unlimited environments for specific features.

Upgrading things like php versions now only requires one line of change.

Automation on deployments is out of the box.

I dislike that I don't have a dashboard of memory usage etc... as I'd like to see how my site is performing but features like this are nice to haves compared to the core product.

The support I get on slack is non-patronising. I've never been told to turn it on and off again. They have a skilled set of support staff that understand developer concerns.

  ### 48. A web application developers dream

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler M. | Web Development Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

By far my favorite feature is VCS integration with services like Gitlab. Automated deployment of merge requests to isolated environments has been great for quality assurance.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

There are some features that do not carry into Platform.sh's enterprise offering which was particularly painful for one of our web applications. That said, out of 6 environments deployed to Enterprise, this was a blocker for just one of them.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

Consider your application memory requirements and speak with a Platform.sh support representative to ensure that your required containers can scale to meet your needs.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At the end of the day, we are in the food & beverage industry; we let Platform.sh worry about CI/CD environment deployments so that we can keep our GitLab CI/CD simple - Test. Lint. Done.

  ### 49. Developer-centric platform and tools, very flexible and powerful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Johan G. | Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

The developer-oriented experience is fantastic, fast and productive. In comparison to, say, other platforms such as AWS/GCP/Acquia where the complex interfaces can be slow and cumbersome to work with.

The wide range of supported technologies and efficient support have also been a strong asset to have and the technical documentation is brilliant.

The killer-feature, in my view, is the byte-for-byte level replication of an entire stack between environments plus the seamless integration with tools like GitHub. It's an enormous time-saver.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Some of the more complex aspects of application onboarding weren't straightforward to resolve but there was ample support from the platform team.

There were a few inconsistencies around things such as SSH key negotiation in the team but they seem to have been resolved.

**Recommendations to others considering Upsun:**

If you have a technical team supporting your projects, I'd highly recommend Platform for simplicity over things such as AWS or Cloudfoundry. If you have a team of primarily non-technical users then other vendors may work better... eg: Acquia Cloud Site Factory.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The key problem was to replace an infrastructure that was poorly supported, managed and maintained. By removing more infrastructure and devops tasks from the small technical team they are now able to deal with a much more relevant and interesting set of organisational issues. The faster, more productive team means that the entire branch operates more efficiently.

The key benefits/returns so far have been: time, reduced stress, stability, predictability and the safety net of a responsive, skilled infrastructure team.

**What do you like best about Upsun?**

Platform.sh provides us a high degree of flexibility in how we manage and host our websites. They are very responsive to questions, suggestions and issues as they come up.

**What do you dislike about Upsun?**

Platform.sh workflows require a higher degree of CI/CD knowledge than legacy workflows based upon local servers. This is not really a complaint, just a fact of life as you move from an on-premise solution to a cloud solution.

**What problems is Upsun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Platform.sh allowed us to address ongoing security issues with how our websites were managed - we now have better control over administrative accounts. It also allows us to build controls that allow us to keep modules, plugins and CMS code up to date in a much more efficient and secure way. Finally, we are saving money because they take care of the infrastructure, databases, CDN, etc. and we no longer have to.
