Considering the price, I appreciate that UPDF allows me to do almost anything I need when editing a document. I find it convenient to edit or delete text to make corrections, and I also value the ability to sign documents whenever necessary. Since I don't require a wide range of advanced features, UPDF offers just the right set of tools for my needs as an educator. Additionally, I like that I can convert files to formats other than PDF, which adds to its usefulness for me. I use it for school and for work on a weekly basis. Using UPDF has been relatively easy to edit my documents. There are times where I have to look up how to use certain tools, but the variety of resources from the website helps. I haven't encountered many drawbacks while using UPDF. However, one issue I have noticed is that it can be difficult to erase text or images when they are embedded within another image. What I really like about UPDF is that it can offer all features I need from a PDF editor, with AI capabilities and an AI assistant (purchased separately with a cheap annual subscription) so I can not just edit and manage my pdf documents (mainly textbooks) but also analyze them and ask questions based on the pdf as a reference. I use this feature so much but honestly I don't rely on it for getting insights or dig deeper with detailed complex questions, I use it as a smart way to do quick searching in the document. In fact, on a traditional PDF reader/editor when I search for something I have to remember the exact words and if that word is common, it takes so much time to find it; but with UPDF I can now use AI to find precisely the specific parts that I am looking for in a very large pdf document. Also I like the fact that it is simple to setup, it is not laggy and support is always active to solve any issues or bug reports. I had used previously free/open source pdf editors on Windows that can offer many features but they all lack native iOS and Android apps, UPDF offers them! I don't like the fact that I suppose (not sure) that AI models used to analyze pdf files is not very accurate (probably it is a cheap AI model so it can both deliver but be sustainable to maintain for them). as I explained, I don't rely on AI features of UPDF as if it was "ChatGPT or Gemini", but I use it as a way to search my document in a smart way. I really appreciate the ability to edit PDFs, fill in forms, and the unique color themes UPDF offers. It's easy to edit, and the tutorials are easy to understand, which helps a lot. The low price aspect is a big plus for me too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

With other PDF programs, I used to be able to narrow in on moving boxes on the screen with the editing tools by holding down Ctrl + shift and arrow keys for navigation. This function doesn't work anymore, and it is difficult to position graphics on the page in precise areas I need them in. I haven't figured out how to do it yet. I also used to know which page tab I was working on easily at the top of the screen in other PDF programs. In this program, I often get confused which tab I have open on the screen viewer. I have to click on other tabs to figure it out at times. It might be better to have the tab more clearly highlighted or separated from the other tabs where it's easier to see on screen. I could see if it's a color theme issue, but then I would lose the colors I like best and defeat the purpose of having color themes to choose from. I think the tint of the active window should be darker than the other tabs. Learning the software was a little different than normal and took some time to play around with it before I got used to it. I am pretty savvy on the computer too so I'm not sure if other less experienced users would find it easy to use this quickly. My advice would be to spend some time on tutorials if you have it. I've tried numerous PDF editors, and UPDF stands out for its perfect balance of powerful features and incredible ease of use. The interface is clean, modern, and intuitive. I was able to open it and start editing, annotating, and converting documents immediately without watching any tutorials.

A few things I use constantly:

Effortless Annotation: Highlighting text, adding comments, and drawing shapes is incredibly smooth. The sticky notes and highlighters are my most-used tools for reviewing documents, and they work flawlessly.

The OCR Feature: This is a game-changer. I frequently get PDFs that are essentially scanned images. UPDF's OCR (Optical Character Recognition) accurately converts them into searchable and selectable text in seconds, which is a massive time-saver.

All-in-One Platform: It replaces multiple apps for me. I use it for simple tasks like merging PDFs and compressing file sizes, but also for more advanced work like editing text and images directly within a PDF. The fact that it's available across my Mac, iPhone, and iPad with seamless syncing is a huge plus.

Excellent Value: Compared to the industry giant (Adobe), UPDF offers about 90% of the functionality I need at a fraction of the cost. The one-time purchase option is very appealing.

No software is perfect, and UPDF has a few minor areas for improvement.

The AI Feature Paywall: UPDF has started integrating AI tools (like summarising, translating, etc.), which is great in theory. However, these features are locked behind a separate, additional subscription on top of the core product license. I feel the core product is fairly priced, but this AI add-on feels a bit expensive for what it offers and how often I'd use it. I'd prefer if some basic AI functionality were included in the premium license.

Occasional Performance with Huge Files: While it handles most documents with ease, I've noticed a very slight lag or delay when working with exceptionally large PDFs (500+ pages with heavy graphics). It's not a dealbreaker, but it's something I've observed.

Limited Cloud Integration: It integrates well with its own cloud service, but I'd love to see more native, direct integration with other platforms like Google Drive or Notion within the app itself. Right now, I typically open files from my desktop.

Overall, these are relatively small gripes. The core functionality, such as editing, annotating, converting, and organising PDFs, is exceptionally solid and reliable. I really enjoy using UPDF for a variety of personal tasks, including filling out forms, signing documents, and editing PDFs, all made convenient by its accessibility on multiple devices like PC, laptop, and mobile devices. I definitely feel that UPDF can improve on having the dark mode background color customization available on mobile devices. Currently, it's a feature I wish were accessible, especially on tablets, as this would enhance visual comfort and appeal. Another concern I have is with the auto form feature; it tends to create unnecessary boxes in places while failing to detect fillable form boxes where needed. The only thing I dislike is the lifetime device allowance. Currently, 2 Laptops/Desktops, 2 Tab/Mobile and 2 Web. Some people has more laptops and desktops than using the web interface.

I love it's simple yet neatly organized interface for ease of use. Classic with AI Chat for translating, summarizing and conversion of my PDF documents. Elegant with comments and mentions which makes collaboration on documents efficient. Cost effective tool to use.
