**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

It provides a true single-pane-of-glass experience for managing multiple Kubernetes clusters. Handling access control, deployments, and monitoring across different cloud providers and on-prem environments becomes much easier, since I don’t have to keep jumping between separate consoles. The built-in RBAC is also very straightforward to configure, which makes it simple to set up the right permissions for team members.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

Upgrades can be a bit of a headache sometimes. Occasionally after updating, you run into minor UI bugs or find that the documentation isn't completely up to date for the newest release, so you end up having to dig through GitHub issues for a workaround. The UI can also feel a little sluggish when you're managing a large number of clusters at once.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the headache of cluster sprawl and fragmented Kubernetes management. Before using it, running multiple clusters across AWS, Azure, and on-prem meant juggling separate access controls, different monitoring setups, and nonstop context switching. Rancher brings all of that together under one roof.

For me, the biggest win is the huge drop in operational overhead. We can apply consistent security policies, manage user access through RBAC, and keep an eye on overall cluster health across environments from a single dashboard. It saves a lot of time on day-to-day maintenance and makes onboarding new team members much smoother.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

It’s open source, and it doesn’t lock you into anyone’s infrastructure. Rancher can manage clusters wherever they run - on bare metal, VMware, edge deployments with K3s, or imported EKS/AKS/GKE - so we were able to standardize how we operate Kubernetes without having to standardize on a single underlying vendor. Having SUSE’s enterprise support available on top of an open-source core is what helped it get through our internal approval process. The surrounding ecosystem (Longhorn, NeuVector, Harvester) integrates cleanly if you want it, and if you don’t, nothing is forced on you.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

We moved from kubeadm clusters built with Terraform and Ansible, and the main tradeoff is that some state now lives in Rancher instead of in our repo. The rancher2 Terraform provider covers a lot, but it still lags behind the UI, so we’ve ended up with a mix of declarative config and click-ops that we haven’t fully reconciled yet.

Fleet helps on the workload side, but debugging it can feel opaque. When a bundle doesn’t reconcile, the error shown in the UI often isn’t enough to explain what’s wrong, and we end up going back into the cluster with kubectl to figure it out. More detailed troubleshooting output in Fleet would save us a lot of time.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before Rancher, every cluster was a kubeadm build stitched together with Terraform and Ansible, and most of the operational knowledge lived in a couple of people’s heads plus a repo full of playbooks. That approach works - until you need to onboard someone new, upgrade the control plane, or track down why one environment drifted from another.

Rancher gave us a consistent way to operate clusters across VMware, KVM, oVirt, and our hosted infrastructure: the same auth, the same RBAC, and the same view, regardless of what’s underneath. For a small team, the practical benefit is that day-two work stopped being bespoke on a per-cluster basis. Upgrades now follow a known path instead of a hand-rolled runbook, and the number of people who can safely touch production went from two to the whole team.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

Rancher gives me a single control plane to manage all my Kubernetes clusters, whether they run on-prem, in the cloud, or at the edge. Provisioning clusters, managing workloads, and setting up users takes minutes instead of hours, which lowers the barrier for developers who aren't Kubernetes experts.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

Rancher's management server and integrated components can be fairly resource-heavy. Keeping Rancher, the underlying Kubernetes distributions, and the managed clusters all in compatible versions requires careful planning, and a bad upgrade can be disruptive if you don't test it thoroughly first. The pace of change is a double-edged sword.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rancher solves the problem of managing Kubernetes clusters scattered across on-prem, cloud, and edge from one place. With unified RBAC, policies, and monitoring, we enforce the same standards everywhere, which reduces misconfiguration risk and makes audits and compliance far easier to handle. Because Rancher is cloud-agnostic and open source, we run consistent Kubernetes across any provider and can shift workloads as needed, giving us negotiating leverage and long-term flexibility on cost.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

The main advantage for us is getting a modern Kubernetes-based virtualization platform without the licensing costs and complexity associated with VMware or a full OpenShift platform. It has been a good fit for moving less critical workloads like development and lab environments away from VMware.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

The main thing I dislike is that there can be a bit of a learning curve when you're first getting used to it, especially if you're coming from more traditional virtualization platforms. Some areas of the UI could also be a little more intuitive, but overall it's been a good experience.
The API integration can be a bit more complex in some areas compared with VMware, especially when integrating with existing automation and tooling. VMware has a very mature API ecosystem, so there are cases where the integration feels more straightforward. SUSE is improving, but this is an area where I'd like to see more consistency and simpler documentation.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SUSE Rancher gives us a central place to manage and operate our Kubernetes environments instead of having to manage each cluster separately. It makes day-to-day administration easier and gives us better visibility across clusters. It also helps us standardize how we manage Kubernetes while keeping the platform flexible and reducing the cost and complexity compared with some of the larger commercial platforms.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

What I like the most is how it simplifies Kubernetes management across multiple environments without sacrificing flexibility. It has a clean intuitive UI which makes managing clusters much less intimidating.

Rancher integrates seamlessly with major cloud providers and monitoring tools, making it easy to fit into existing workflows. 

Performance has been solid even when managing multiple clusters, and the centralized management experience helps reduce operational overhead, making it into a meaningful ROI. 

The onboarding process is relatively straightforward, supported by a knowledgeable team and the platform's automation, monitoring and policy management capabilities helps teams opearte more efficiently and mantain compliance as they scale.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

While Rancher offers a solid user experience overall, certain integrations may require additional configuration and expertise to fully optimize. 

Performance is generally reliable, though the management layer can become resouce-intensive in more complex deployments. 

Another thing is that its AI-driven insights and predictive intelligence features are not as advanced as some competing platforms that have invested more heavily in AI-powered operations.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

I mainly use SUSE Rancher as a central dashboard to manage all Kubernetes clusters, which saves me a ton of time when deploying apps or checking logs. The single pane of glass UI for all the clusters is definitely the best part, making onboarding new team members and setting up their permissions much simpler than doing it manually. I really like how easy it is to open a shell directly into a pod right from the browser for troubleshooting. The built-in app catalog is great too, as it lets me deploy Helm charts with just a few clicks instead of messing with YAML files. The initial setup was pretty straightforward and didn't take our team more than half an hour to set up and connect a K8s cluster with it.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

I find version upgrades stressful because things sometimes break or get out of sync with downstream clusters. I also feel it is resource-heavy and can get kinda slow if I don't give it plenty of hardware.

**Recommendations to others considering SUSE Rancher:**

To improve the experience, ensure that version upgrades are thoroughly tested to prevent disruptions. Consider optimizing resource usage to enhance performance, especially for larger deployments.

I really appreciate SUSE Rancher because it cuts time for management, making it much faster than traditional CLIs from cloud vendors in addition to getting rid of cloud vendor issues. I find it incredibly easy to use and install, which is a big plus.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

When managing clusters from Azure and OCI cloud, SUSE Rancher has a lag issue. It seems to persist regardless of geolocation and internet connection.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

Cliché, but it really does offer a single pane of glass across all our clusters, giving us a quick view of our whole estate. It also provides centralized, role-based access control, which means we don’t have to configure access at a lower level. And it’s open source, too.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

As with most things Kubernetes, there’s a steep learning curve. Personally, I found the documentation a bit lacking. Given the overhead, in my mind it’s only worth considering if you manage a large number of clusters or if you frequently destroy and redeploy them.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubernetes sprawl can quickly become a headache once you get beyond a handful of clusters. SUSE Rancher helps simplify things by giving you a single place to manage all your clusters.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

We used Rancher as part of a small POC to see how our microservices would behave in a Kubernetes setup. What stood out right away was how easy it was to move around the interface. Even for someone who isn’t deep into Kubernetes every day, it was straightforward to check what’s running, look at logs, and understand what’s healthy or not.

During the POC, we deployed a few basic services, including our Managed Microservices module and some integration‑related components. Rancher made it simple to see everything in one place instead of jumping between different tools or terminals.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

Some parts of the setup took a bit of figuring out, especially when we tried running Rancher on a local machine just to test things out. A couple of settings, like the built‑in cluster name, are locked down, so you can’t rename them the way you might want for a clean demo. It wasn’t a big issue, but it did slow us down at the start while we worked around it.

It should be a clean slate rather than fixing things up. When setting up initially or POC, I expected it to be guiding us rather than working on the stuff that's fixed.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

During our initial testing for some of ours microservices, Rancher made it much easier to understand how our microservices would behave once they were running inside Kubernetes. Instead of jumping between different commands or tools, everything we needed was right in front of us — from pod status to logs and basic resource details. Having that visual view helped us test things faster and gave us a better sense of what day‑to‑day operations would look like if we moved these services into a real Kubernetes environment.

Vendor neutrality for sure. Our company uses different Kubernetes vendors and solutions, so it's nice that we can use SUSE Rancher to manage all of them.

We had some troubles after some updates, causing some of our downstream clusters to become stuck in updating. Other than that, this is just a personal preference, but I'm not a huge fan of the UI.

I really appreciate how it centralizes the management of multiple clusters across different environments whether on-prem or cloud. The intuitive UI along with RBAC helps us maintain governance while giving teams autonomy. Its built-in monitoring and logging integration reduces the need for separate tools. Rancher has also simplified scaling our workloads and ensured consistent security policies across clusters, which was a big win for our operation team.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

One of the key reasons we chose SUSE Rancher is that it is not only backed by a strong open-source community, but it also offers enterprise-grade support. This was critical for us, as Rancher is a core platform technology underpinning our production business services.

Rancher provides excellent flexibility by being cloud- and infrastructure-agnostic. This future-proofs our deployments and gives us the ability to scale seamlessly into other cloud providers or our on-premises datacentres if required.

After iterating through a few design approaches, Rancher proved straightforward to set up, integrate, run and manage. Having the option of a paid, “production-ready” assessment carried out by a SUSE Rancher expert also gave us peace of mind that we were on the right track.

Although the SUSE Security (NeuVector ) solution has been somewhat fiddly at times and has produced a few false positives, it has nonetheless proven to be a valuable addition to Rancher. It provides us with enterprise-grade, zero-trust container security by continually scanning across the container lifecycle, providing runtime security, sophisticated threat detection, and compliance features.

Finally, I want to highlight the support we’ve received from the SUSE customer success and account management team. They have been fantastic—highly responsive, supportive, and committed to delivering an excellent customer experience.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

I wouldn’t say there is any specific that I dislike about SUSE Rancher, the only real thing I would highlight would be the issues we have had with SUSE security (NeuVector).

The most helpful aspect of SUSE Rancher is its easy-to-learn, consistent interface, which simplifies multi-cluster management regardless of where the clusters are running. The documentation is thorough and support is responsive, making troubleshooting and on-boarding smooth. Rancher’s reliability and seamless migration capabilities have been invaluable, allowing our developers to move workloads between on-prem and cloud with minimal changes. Integration with common Kubernetes tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and CI/CD platforms is straightforward, and the platform’s security features, especially admission control, add an extra layer of protection.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

The least helpful aspect of SUSE Rancher, at least with us, is that running Rancher you need to have a management cluster to manager your downstream clusters.  So if you are in the cloud, that management cluster now cost you money.  It does not need to be a large cluster, but it still uses resources.  SUSE Rancher can also be pretty complex, with lost of parts and pieces troubleshooting can sometimes be a bear.

The greatest problem that it is solving for us is seamless intergration for our developers no matter where the cluster sits.  We are going from on-prim clusters to cloud clusters, so from a developer standpoint moving workloads is seemless and easier.  The developer does not need to learn the cloud service providers portal to deploy their app.  The interface for the developer is the same whether it is on-prim or in the cloud.

The best part about rancher is when you are working in a team it's easy to manage the resources as it provides the good GUI. Also it's open source so we have the customization feature over there.

Sometimes deployments of new setup takes much time than expected also while creating or editing the configurations it refreshes the site which helps to the preview stage also you can face some bugs which might be fixed in upcoming version.

While working on rancher me and my teammates overcome with some bugs as it manages multiple Kubernetes clusters and provides such great functionality so we expect some issues of slowness while deployment but rancher is solving some bugs while working on it.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

I was stunned to use Rancher in my workplace through which we can implement a security container strategy very easily with just a click of a button. Very easy to use and comfortable UI which is very helpful for me in my beginning stage of this application. The best feature I loved is the live logs and REST APIs which we can consume to use Rancher with the integration of our services. Its multilingual support was very helpful in our workplace.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

Rancher can increase the time limit for logging out of the app; it is a bit annoying. They can also introduce k8s solutions which are missing in Rancher. Sometimes I face reload issues; reloads take a lot of time to load the application, and also the multi-tenancy feature is a must which must be improved a bit. Backing up can be confusing on Rancher sometimes.

It is solving my problems in security-managed containers, which was a big task for me. Through their dashboard, I can easily manage all containers efficiently and can manage them with just a few commands.

Rancher is the best ever platform which helps to manage the teams their Kubernetes. The most important thing I like in Rancher is centralized authentication and do the deployments on the clouds independently. Also it allows to optimize the reliable infrastructure that has helped a lot to our team.

There is some steep curve here in Rancher which doesn't support much to newcomers. Also Rancher is best wherever I found to be perfect. Only support that it needs is to elevate use of ease for new joiners.

The best out of its services I have found the challenges on security as well as operational level that solves much out of our team. The Kubernetes clusters also it manages very well. And it helped a lot the devops team to overcome and implement containers.

Rancher makes handling containers simple by integrating with several platforms. Rancher Desktop made it straightforward to switch from Docker Desktop to a containerd-based one. It also improves our understanding of our container configuration by masking the more technical portions of Kubernetes.

I haven't discovered any major issues yet, however it does log me out by itself after a while.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

My first approach to Rancher were when I have almost 5 years of expertise in building and maintaining Kubernetes-based platforms at large enterprise scale (multiple cluster, tens of projects, 300 Namespaces, 500 applications developers and administrators, thousands of Business users and clients etc.)

What I noticed the most is how complete the vision of this product is. We also considered two other main market competitors of Rancher. From the great three, only Rancher has very soft dependencies with other SUSE products. You can choose to use them (for example: Longhorn, NeuVector, KubeWarden, Harvester) but you are not forced to do so to gain full functionality of Rancher.

Rancher is like Kubernetes on steroids: easy to install and learn, hard to master but have very high ROI. Some functionalities takes months to master, but will return that time when there is high Frequency of use of them in Day-2 operations (i.e. good configuration of some infrastructure providers takes months and requires implementing changes at infrastructure layer, but when finished gives possibility to create dozens of downstream clusters in minutes).

I love it's simple subscription model, as much as I cherish that it is fully open source. If you don't know what I mean then try to "install to learn" approach with two main Rancher's market competitors... it's not possible, the closest you get is "try and buy", yuck!

Rancher provides a very well documented REST API, so it can be easily integrate your services with it i.e. We have implemented self-service of Namespace lifecycle (create/quota mgmt/delete) that integrates Rancher's authentication and authorization model wth our corporate propetriary IAM solution.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

Rancher has a well-known roadmap with many functionalities planned, but some of them are neverending stories (i.e. We are waiting for "Projects 2.0" feature with implementation of hierarchical namespaces for over 1.5 years and it still will be available "soon"). Some internal modules are more mature than others. That is well seen on Rancher's drivers for different infrastructure and cloud providers.

Rancher is easy to implement within public cloud, but its implementation in secure corporate air-gapped on-premise environment is uneven (some things are easy and well documented, some will bring one a lot of new grey hairs).

The multiple speeds of development of different Rancher's functionalities can lead to many breaking changes between releases, so administrators have a lot of work with every upgrade. Rancher is stable corporate-grade software, but every company that wants to implement it at scale must have a very professional and well-educated team of administrators and/or devops.

That last but not least, the Customer Support is... the same as everywhere else in the world. Don't hesitate to open support tickets (that's the main reason you bought the subscriptions, right?), but also don't assume that they will resolve all of your problems in no time.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maintaining multiple very similar to each other Kubernetes clusters, within two main Rancher environments (non-production and production). Time not consumed by repetitive Day-2 operations, we can spend on developing new functionalities of our Rancher-based platforms.

Stackstate as K8 observability software is easy to use and is thus easily adopted by our tech teams. Mainly because because of the out of the box monitors and remediation guides. Fast time-to-value for 'regular' engineers. And: quite easy to implement.

The level and responsiveness of the tech support of the Stackstate team is also remarkable.

One management feature was missing, which was really important for our operational teams: our request was quickly roadmapped. So Stackstate is acting fast when you have a request as a customer.

We often used Docker earlier but when it was no more open source we want some good reliable alternative, we found rancher the best fit, we can have customizable installation process, it really helped us to run the same docker command, which I loved the most.

I feel when rancher desktop run for couple of hour it really took really good amount of ram which cause some slowness. So we can optimize the memory.

It is installed easily via command line or the official helm chart, you can see in the UI the pods, deployments, node metrics, etc. It is a nice way for developers to have a quick view about what is deployed to the cluster.

It proposes an imperative way of deploying applications using the Rancher customized helm charts. Some apps work with that way of deploying, others do not. Also, the official Rancher helm chart is always 2 major versions behind Kubernetes and if you want to uninstall it from your cluster, it always leaves unused resources and the unused namespaces cannot be deleted.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

The product has an easy installation for laboratory projects, which helped us a lot to speed up the proof of concept process and gave us the necessary experience to face the first delivery of a production environment. There is also support from the manufacturer in Portuguese-BR, which is a big step forward for me. The product is frequently used by the operations team and the GUI environment is more than sufficient to perform routine tasks.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

There are some points to improve in the product, such as some facilities for configuring the final production environment. All the documentation says that specialized support from SUSE technicians is necessary to deliver the production environment, but all other products are like this too. The lack of native integration with a CI tool was also noted, but was overcome by CI scripts that integrate with the product's CD feature, but due to no integration with CI, in certain projects up to the CD we are executing by script outside the tool resource.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using Rancher, we were in a test environment that grew into a productive environment with Docker Swarm. Although the tool worked well, it started to increase the complexity in product administration and, therefore, we started managing microservices projects with Rancher. With this, administration, operation and even other functionalities such as CI/CD were implemented and delivered in a more professional, more performant and more resilient environment.

Visual interface is very clear and allows to easily keep track of all running services and pods, as well as jobs or pods that have failed. Quick commands allow to start, stop or restart services, while planning cronjob is also available.

Some setting pages are a bit confusing and some options could be grouped for clarity.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

Ease of viewing deployments, making changes and monitoring how my cluster is doing. A really cool point to mention is that Rancher is an opensource platform and its source code can be accessed on GitHub, you can use the code as a study source, understand in depth how the platform works, contribute to the project, report problems and kindly request new features.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

In some cases, such as autoscaling, we still find some limitations forcing the user to do it with CLI.

Share our Kubernets infrastructure with the team in a simple way based on access levels by role.

**What do you like best about SUSE Rancher?**

Robust integrations with K3S clusters, providing the most used features of K8s through a nice UI. Enabling you to configure, deploy and manage easily your K8s clusters. Capable to handle several clusters and embedded public cloud drivers for easily add nodes, including good and secure user handling. Deploy Rancher server is a simple task, very seamless deployment with minimal setup. I used very often to check almost 10 K8s clusters handled by Rancher Server.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Rancher?**

It doesn't come with DR/Backup tools, of course you can always use other software to complement.

**What problems is SUSE Rancher solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handling multiple K8s clusters within a single pane of glass.

I like catalog of apps(appps and marketplace) feature it makes life easier by allowing us to install most of familiar opensource application into cluster with few clicks away
