I consider it a great fit for below 5k-10k assets. **What do you dislike about Snipe-IT?** I'd love for Snipe to get a Google connection for user import. Adding users is very easy but it would be nice to have some type of import. **Recommendations to others considering Snipe-IT:** Try it out! You'll quickly know if it is a good fit. **What problems is Snipe-IT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Snipe is an inexpensive solution that is much better than spreadsheet management. You can search by a user, serial number, location, etc. and also create reports. We can quickly determine what age our fleet is and budget for replacements in the following year. I can also easily track warranties, and add locations as needed. Software and components can be assigned to other devices. My goal with Snipe was to have an easy to use tracking system that others could learn very quickly, limit the permission for other users and quickly implement. So far my teammates love Snipe and are very thankful for it. 1+ year update: Snipe continues to be one of the department's best tools. We continue to rely on inventory history and notes. I've also added new hardware types to Snipe in the past year and am impressed by how simple that is. Adding a new model only takes a couple minutes and is easy to repeat. Probably the largest annoyance is that my label printer doesn't always print right. ### 17. You can self-host the service or have them host your tenant for a very reasonnable price. It has a comprehensive API and we plugged this asset management tool to our MDM and several other tools to automate a lot of the asset checkin and checkout. **What do you dislike about Snipe-IT?** The components structure of the tool can be a little overwhelming at first but when you get into it, it makes a lot of sense. The tool also lacks web hooks for events occurring within the asset management to further automate our organization, but the feature is requested and will probably be added in the future. **What problems is Snipe-IT solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are automatically tracking our assets since the moment our new employees self enroll their laptops, to the moment they leave the company. I've used much (much) more expensive software but, except for a few missing features, Snipe it is just as easy to use, users love it and it's worked flawlessly for years. On top of this you can go for the paid hosting option (around £299 a year IIRC) or host yourself for free! The software is frequently updated and the team work fast to respond to issues and add new features. They've also been great at resolving billing issues etc **What do you dislike about Snipe-IT?** Um, really the only thing is that I would dearly love to see this product extended with a calendar booking system for kit. Currently Snipe IT is heavily focused on managing resources in IT. If it had a booking system it would be a perfect fit in education as well. I mean we already use it in education due to the pricing but I can always ask for more! **Recommendations to others considering Snipe-IT:** Give the excellent open source version a go and chuck it up on a web host or internal server. We did and had no issue moving to the paid hosting option which is kept constantly up to date and helps the dev team. **What problems is Snipe-IT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Stopping things going missing, database to remember facts about purchases. Inventory management, PAT testing, exposing available equipment to users, simplifying booking out process, reducing time spent on adding new equipment or onboarding staff. Basically Snipe-IT is bloody amazing, I've seen it re-used in lots of projects (but never as well in this original product) and except for additional things I wish it did I can't knock any of its core functionality. Training up staff to use it takes no time at all. Whats not to like? ### 19. So far, it has been rock solid stable, without any crashes or major defects that we have discovered. It allows us to track both assets, software, consumables, and peripherals in an easy to use system with multiple users and administrators. The Snipe-IT provinces great support on the paid version and pretty good support through forums for the free version. **What do you dislike about Snipe-IT?** Initial setup is time/resource inventive since any existing inventory will need to be imported in. I would consider it to be a small/midsize project depending on the size of the deployment and should be planned for accordingly. **Recommendations to others considering Snipe-IT:** Consider implementing the system on site, perhaps in a docker deployment if, it is a relatively small deployment. We have had good success running it in a lightweight Synology NAS device. Perform a new site inventory when deploying Snipe-IT and deploy the necessary resources to complete the inventory/audit. Make one person responsible for keeping tabs on the system and making sure that the database is up to date. Perform a small training on company users about how to request equipment and keep track of the devices that they have been asigned. **What problems is Snipe-IT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Snipe-IT has been great in keeping track of asset and license deployments and purchase histories. It allows us to know who has what equipment and that all software licenses are being used to it's full potential. Adding pictures of items and having the ability to assign items to either locations or people (with automated emails, nevertheless!) is really genuinely awesome. Plus, the data is never held hostage and is incredibly simple to export into a CSV format, which is commonly used in the industry. Not to mention the price for self-hosted with self-support? It's FREE. And honestly, that is a massive massive reason why I went with this software. **What do you dislike about Snipe-IT?** There's only some minor things I'm not a fan of. For example I'm not sure where I would change the default search field from Asset tag. Also changing the email configuration requires digging through configuration files which isn't all that great for people that might not be as deeply involved into Linux **Recommendations to others considering Snipe-IT:** It's a free software and definitely worth giving a shot if you have unused VM resources. Plus it has a lot of integrations and customizability. **What problems is Snipe-IT solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problem I'm solving is lack of inventory management within a department. It cuts down on time and trying to work through the master inventory system that our head company provides. ### 22. Obviously this had several issues. 1. hard to maintain, 2. not interactive. 3. no integration. SnipeIT solved this all for us. WE connect it with our internal Active directory and can easily check in and out assets to users and locations. It is also easy to import and maintain, it took only a few hours to get up and running. We also love that we can self host in AWS. **What do you dislike about Snipe-IT?** The biggest issue we have is that Snipe does not support SAML or any real SSO authentication. This seems to me to be a big missing feature. While Snipe does offer built in two factor authentication, we prefer to keep all of our services behind our OneLogin SSO portal. Which is currently not available with Snipe. **Recommendations to others considering Snipe-IT:** I think Snipe is a great, open source and self host-able inventory system. We use a docker install and keep it running in amazon web services. It works great for us. We tie our Active Directory to it as well. **What problems is Snipe-IT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Snipe allows us to easily manage our assets and have a two-factor protected system that can be accessed anywhere. ### 23. The setup documentation and troubleshooting tips are very helpful and detailed. I had the whole thing up and running in a couple hours, imported everything from our old asset management system by the end of the day. The app itself does not require many resources. I run it on a docker host that hosts a few other things, and snipe-it uses less than 500MB of ram, mysql included. The developers are very responsive on Github and help with any issues that pop up quickly and are very open to adding requested features. I also like that paid support is available if I so choose. **What do you dislike about Snipe-IT?** The import process is very clunky and hard to figure out. I struggled quite a bit getting all the information into a csv and formatted correctly. Once I got that done, it did import, but the process was not very intuitive. **Recommendations to others considering Snipe-IT:** Make sure it meets all your needs. This is a manual inventory application, not agent based. Meaning you are responsible for the quality of data. **What problems is Snipe-IT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Able to keep much better track of our expensive asset items, as well as keep track of less expensive items like adapters.
