## About SmartDeploy
SmartDeploy is a Windows imaging and OS deployment solution that helps IT administrators and sysadmins provision, reimage, and manage Windows endpoints across on-premises, remote, and hybrid environments. Designed for IT teams managing fleets of 50 to 10,000 Windows devices, SmartDeploy simplifies the imaging and deployment cycle from image creation and driver management to bare-metal provisioning and user data migration without the complexity of other legacy tools. Common use cases include: OS reimaging after hardware refresh, bare-metal provisioning of new endpoints, image deployment across mixed-hardware environments, user data and settings migration during device replacement, and OS standardization for compliance-sensitive fleets. SmartDeploy supports both agentless and agent-based deployment modes. In agentless environments, deployments are supported through offline media or WDS/PXE boot. With the SmartDeploy client installed, IT teams can deploy Windows images over the network or directly from cloud storage in addition to offline media. Key capabilities: Hardware-independent imaging with automated driver injection: Create a single WIM-based Windows image and deploy it across different hardware models. Driver injection technology automatically matches and delivers the correct driver pack to each target device, drawing from a library of 1,500+ prebuilt, PDQ-maintained driver packs covering all major OEM business-class models. Flexible deployment methods: Deploy Windows images using offline media, local network servers, WDS/PXE boot, or directly from cloud storage (OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, or S3) without requiring a VPN for remote endpoints. Multi-admin web console with distribution points: A locally hosted web console enables multiple IT administrators to access SmartDeploy concurrently from any networked device. Distribution points allow teams to store deployment assets at local offices or in cloud storage and deploy from the nearest available source. Native USMT integration: Built-in support for the User State Migration Tool (USMT) allows admins to capture and restore user data and settings as part of a standard deployment workflow. Quick setup and ease of use: SmartDeploy delivers comparable Windows imaging and OS deployment capabilities with faster setup, lower administrative overhead, and greater deployment flexibility — designed for teams that don't need full-scale enterprise deployment infrastructure. PDQ is a software company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Built by sysadmins for sysadmins, PDQ develops device management and deployment tools for IT teams. SmartDeploy is PDQ's Windows imaging and OS deployment product, used by IT teams across government, education, healthcare, and compliance-sensitive industries where consistent, auditable Windows provisioning is critical.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael C. | Help Desk Team Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Smart Deploy has made our jobs so much easier when it comes to deploying and managing Windows computers. We were easily able to create our image for initial deployment and using the SmartDeploy Agent we are able to push software to our users even when they are working from home. With us working through the pandemic, Smart Deploy has allowed us to continue to effectively support our users.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

There is not much to dislike about smart deploy. Unless you like wasting time manually setting up computers.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Smart Deploy is easy to setup, has great customer service, and will make you job a lot easier.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This has helped us free up time setting up users computers and manually installing software and allowed us to focus more time and effort on more complex tasks. We use Smart Deploy as another tech in the office that handles setting up computers and pushing software. We are now free to focus on other tasks.

 ### 2. SD: A great imaging & management solution!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Philip T. | IT Support Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Extremely helpful support, custom platform packs, overall great solution that as helped our small business succeed with imaging our fleet of workstations. Platform Packs are freaking great and they have packs for a ton of brands & models. If they don't have a PP for your workstation, they can create custom packs. Depending on your support level, that may be free or cost a very small amount.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Struggling to come up with solid answer here, but one area that has room for improvement is their self-help. KB articles, FAQ, etc. aren't very deep or cover a large enough area of subjects. I think they could use more there.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SmartDeploy helps us easily provide standard golden images to our company's fleet of ~250 workstations. I can't imagine doing all of them by hand.

 ### 3. SmartDeploy pays for its self by not having to buy an extra lab computer for the golden image

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Larry C. | Mech. Engr. Tech Support, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

We used to buy an extra computer when we did a lab of 25 just to use as the golden image. With smart deploy we no longer have to do that because of the SmartDeploy hardware packs. If we are the first one on the block to get a new model, SmartDeploy will make us a hardware pack. Another thing I like s the individual software program deployment which allows us to load a base image and then add programs to the particular computer at the time of imaging.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Only nitpick is that the computer labs are not sorted numerically so when you make you lab groups add them in order.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a running 10 years worth of computers we image every summer and can do so with a couple of images.

 ### 4. SmartDeploy in Higher Ed Environment

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bob A. | Sr. Systems Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

The features/platform give me the ability to customize images with more freedom that other methods. It allows me to manage/organize the images to quickly deploy and maintain the many systems I have in the higher education environment.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Minor things that are not showstoppers, and those are usually short lived as SmartDeploy does a tremendous job of continually updating their solution.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving the ability to quickly deploy highly custom images with complex software installations in various department labs from many disciplines at the university. With network deployments, there has been a huge savings in time and 'boots-on-the-ground' resources needed to deploy/maintain our various computer labs. Add in the ability to create and deploy applications within Smartdeploy allows a greater degree of customization and flexibility in developing 'images'.

 ### 5. Data Migration and Fast Imaging All at the Click of a Mouse Button!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott B. | Systems Analyst/Tech Level III, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

I love the fast image creation process, as well as the fast image deployment process! And with all the driver packages and application packages already available, the fine folks at SmartDeploy have already done a lot of the legwork so I don't have to spend time finding the correct driver package for my enterprise systems.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

I dislike that I've waited this long to finally get onboard with SmartDeploy! :-)

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can now monitor all my time-critical client computers and push driver updates to them instead of having to physically walk to our machine floor, and can re-image a machine in about 30 minutes! It's piece of mind for our production/operations leaders, knowing our IT department has a quick solution in place if a problematic machine needs to be reimaged.

 ### 6. Easy to Use!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda H. | IT Support Tech III, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

No need to learn SCCM. Platform Packs already available. Simple to use console. Availability of guides and How-To. They are constantly updating to bring new features. We are still exploring all the options that SmartDeploy has and learning to use them.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Licensing. They are updating to include a better way for licensing but if there was a way to incorporate it into AD or similar it would help with the management of machines/licenses.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick and easy deployment. We can reimage a computer offline by USB within 15 minutes so we can turn around a new computer for a user in 30 minutes which is important for onboarding of new users on a last-minute request. Not having to worry about driver packs and Sysprep.

 ### 7. Great Software, Great Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian F. | Director of Information Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

SmartDeploy has saved me a lot of time deploying machines on our network. The software is constantly being improved and new features are always being added. The support team is always quick to reply and resolve any issues I have with SmartDeploy and fortunately that has been very few issues.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

I can't really think of anything I dislike with SmartDeploy. My biggest concerns if I have to try to think of something is with keeping Windows up to date for deployments. It can being very tasking to try to keep an image updated with Microsoft constantly updating Windows.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a one man band with my companies IT department. This software has really made it easier for one person to deploy systems.

 ### 8. SmartDeploy Is Awesome

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron L. | Seafood Clerk, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

I really love the client downloads that can be deployed off the image itself for remote deploying images (Which also allows you to be able to see if machines are out of date with firmware and you can send those updates via SmartDeploy). It saves me so much time not having to install all my applications individually. I was not disappointed at all with buying and using this product.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

I have troubles with trying to use the capture images from machines so I keep a backup image of some machines.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Defiantly worth buying !

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time saving with out question. I would like to be able to capture images from machines so I can have backups of certain machine.

 ### 9. East to use and get setup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

I had no previous product knowledge just a little insight on what it actually did. My boss basically gave me a list of wants and left it for me to come up with the how. Was basically provided with login information. Had the environment up & running with a golden image and a couple test systems imaged in about 2 - 4 hours. It's easy to use and get started. When advanced things beyond basics come up, support it quick to respond and take action. If a remote session is needed, support is very prompt to assist.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Being on Eastern Time Zone, not really sure of the actual support hours. Not sure if that is really a dislike. Can't really thing of a dislike, looking forward to this solution making life in IT and management easier.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

It's a solution that works and easy for endpoint management of imaging and drivers. I think more product development is in the works, which makes for a good investment for the current and future needs.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Or main issue is standards. Not having any and people putting out images and software on the fly. Doing all of this via Smart Deploy allows for those standards to be managed and enforced, licensing compliance. Most of all, a quick recovery when a system needs to be reimaged. Also makes the hardware driver updates and compliance a easy task.

 ### 10. Great Solution

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

One image for all devices is fantastic. That and SmartDeploy take care of the drivers for the different models we have. But mostly, one image! Fortunately I had implemented SmartDeploy in 2019. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and staff had to work from home, the scramble to issue everyone with laptops was made supremely easy because of SmartDeploy. Without it, the timeframes would have jumped significantly.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Reporting and feedback within the product is poor. For example, you can deploy an app or a task, but there's no way to know the success of that. However, it's not a huge issue for me, but I see it as a barrier to enhancing increased adoption of the product. Also management of licences is a pain e.g. if you rename a computer, the equivalent in the licence doesn't get renamed. If you then retire the device, you need to search for the original licence to remove it and free the licence up. Fortunately I believe that is about to be resolved in a soon to be released update, but that aspect should have been dealt with a long time ago.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've solved the problem of how to get devices out to people faster and also significantly reduced the amount of time to resolve issues. Reimaging is so much quicker and hassle free that it's often the fastest way to get users operational again. So we've reduced the amount of IT time spent getting laptops ready and resolving issues, while increasing user satisfaction.

 ### 11. SmartDeploy - "THE" Gold Standard Image Engineering Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

We evaluated several competing products as well as existing in-house capabilities of SCCM and MDT. We determined there was a huge learning curve and tons of manual effort with customizing MDT scripts and task sequences. This was even after sitting with dedicated Microsoft experts in seminars and proof of concept session on site to try and learn it. Although we have many tools at our disposal for imaging, our go-to tool for all of our imaging engineering needs is SmartDeploy. This includes deployment tactics using a their bootable USB for reimaging purposes, as well as factory image creation for Lenovo computers.

The other products fell WAY short of the capabilities and features that SmartDeploy can offer. We especially liked that it leverages familiar software we use (VMWare Workstation Pro) for virtual machines as a basis for building your image. We love the consistency that the SAME image derived from the virtual works on any of our computer models, and its a matter of providing the Platform Packs for driver support to automatically. It is a truly hardware agnostic image solution.
Don't be fooled by the simplistic GUI for SmartDeploy either; there is a ton of power under the hood here and it is only because it is SO well designed that it appears simple to the end user.

The support is excellent and customized to our needs. If we hit any snags in our usage of SmartDeploy, the product support team has been excellent in timely responding to our needs. Some of our support calls were rather advanced in nature, but you can tell they have the expertise in house to address any issue, large or small. All of our support calls have been resolved expeditiously. The support team has even listened to new features and made bug fixes based on things I have brought to their attention. Best of all, the product continues to evolve with new features and stays abreast with the Microsoft roadmap for Windows 10 releases. You won't have to worry about engineering an image with the latest version of Windows, as you can rest assured it will be supported in the ongoing releases of SmartDeploy.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

I want to be clear though, this is NOT a shortcoming of SmartDeploy specifically. I have many reference machines, and they are large. So we have had to allocate a lot of extra space on servers and local drive storage. I choose to manage and archive various versions of reference machines (virtual machines) in my environment. Each one is over 50GB, so it adds up.

One thing that I feel could be better managed within SmartDeploy itself is the answer file editing. Creation of the Answer File is wizard driven, and I find I have to go into the wizard to review previously created answer files. I find it much easier to go into an XML editor (like NotePad++) and edit the fields directly. This is a necessary evil to ensure our USB keys are using the newest image (which the answer file references), when we change the image name etc. It is also easy to see in the XML editor what features are turned off an on (0 or 1 switches). I'd like to see that same capability for editing the answer files, brought into the SmartDeploy GUI. Not sure if it is already there, I just use the XML editing method because I'm used to doing so by now.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Great tool. Very robust. New features added routinely. You can even try a demo to ensure you like it before you purchase.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We conduct all of our image engineering for every model of of laptop and desktop with SmartDeploy. We have a single image applied to all computers, which simplifies management and support within our environment. We also don't have to worry about any merger or acquisition issues that may arise with supporting new models of computers for the new companies. We used to keep model-specific images before, and had to update them individually; now that is no longer the case and one image is all we maintain. This saves time and effort, and provides a consistent end user experience with everyone using the same base image.

We'd also like to look into expanding our remote imaging capabilities for work-from-home initiatives during the pandemic, and of course SmartDeploy has a means to do that as well. It has become challenging to prepare equipment in the office and have to ship it to end user homes. An over the air method of reimaging would certainly help, but we will have to delve into that further with the product.

 ### 12. Great Imaging Product, Management Needs Work

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mental Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Very high quality imaging product. It allows us to maintain a single Windows 10 Enterprise Image, and then lay that on multiple hardware platforms and configurations. When a new model comes out, we can just download the platform pack from SmartDeploy and we are ready to go. LAN and Offline deployment work best, by far. We have made WAN Deployment work in some cases.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

The management and migration pieces need work. User migration capture and deployment from the Console is hit and miss at best. It mostly just doesn't work, and has caused us to lose at least one user's data.
WAN deployment is also hampered when there is limited bandwidth.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Test SmartDeploy first to make sure it does exactly what you need and want.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To enable fast roll-out of new laptops and PCs
To assist us in upgrading in-place hardware from Windows 7 to Windows 10, this is by far the best use case for us and has generally worked superbly.

 ### 13. Easy to setup and maintain

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan S. | IT Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

How easy it was/is to setup and maintain. Driver packs for all of our new incoming computers are already created making deploying different models effortless.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Wish there was more of a visual progress bar, log, or some sort of notification of completion when deploying an updated driver pack or application to a computer.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Anyone with a smaller IT group that doesn't have the time to spend building / maintaining driver packages for every different computer model and wants to use custom images. This is definitely a product you should look at. Was able to get it up and running in under a day, the longest part of this is building the image to deploy.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smart deploy handles all of our computer imaging. Saves a lot of time with not having to build the driver packs ourselves, or update them when new drivers are available. I am able to keep all our drivers up to date with less than 10 minutes a month and only a few clicks.

 ### 14. Excellent imaging solution for managing Windows 10 Clients!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron Z. | Technical Support Technician 2, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

How easy it is to create a Windows 10 custom image, create a deployment package with an answer file, and a driver pack for the make and model of the hardware you are imaging.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

No asset management solution
Could use better package management creation, but its getting there.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moved from old DOS Ghost to a client that is installed on a server and can be installed on any PC. Amazing! I have it installed on a PC at my desk to make my images and then I transfer them to the server. Imaging a PC used to take hours. Now it takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete from boot to desktop.

 ### 15. A great imaging solution with a short learning curve!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William M. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

SmartDeploy is easy to use. With the helpful documentation and training videos you will have a good understanding of how the product works and be imaging your first PC in a short amount of time. Easy to use answer files allow you to automate and customize your deployments. The SmartDeploy interface allows you to update device drivers on PCs running the SmartDeploy client.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

It is recommended that you create new virtual machines when new feature updates are released in Windows 10.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploying new PCs and redeploying used PCs quickly and knowing that the configuration is consistent from PC to PC.

 ### 16. SmartDeploy in higher education.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ian Z. | System Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

I love how easy it is to setup and use. It literally took under an hour to get everything setup on the backend. Creating and Updating images were just as easy. I am able to see all the computers in one window. I can see what OS they are running, if drivers are out-dated, and even if OS is outdated.

Using the software is a lot more user friendly and straightforward from previous OS deployment software that we have used.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Only downside I have is reporting. There isn't too much. Diagnosing issues does take a little bit to get used to.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster Imaging on site and remote. Rolling out software remotely is a breeze. We can help end users that working from home. We can re-image their machines with no issue through the internet.

 ### 17. Easiest and Quickest way to deploy new systems!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan C. | Senior Systems Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Don't have to learn SCCM or MDT. You're up and running deploying images in an afternoon. Guides and wizards walk you through the entire process. Driver packs make adding drivers to golden image a breeze.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

You do have to license every machine that is imaged, so there are additional costs to the imaging process that add up over time.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SmartDeploy allows our limited IT staff to rapidly (re)deploy systems to our user base. Easily recover from system corruption by reimaging from the last clean company image. We have cut our time to deploy new systems down from days to hours.

 ### 18. For admins with little time

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cody L. | Infrastructure Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Driver packages are amazing. They have support for all the most common brands including Server hardware.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Their custom app function still needs work. It does work, however you still need to do the guess work on finding slient switches. If they would implement either a macro function or support for something like lua or autoIT it would be awesome.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deployment of OS installs. Makes it super easy when we get new hardware in to just push an image to a machine and walk away knowing it will have everything.

 ### 19. SmartDeploy - Imaging Software that works!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott P. | IT Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

SmartDeploy allows you to create a Windows image that can be loaded on different types of hardware. No need for unique images for each different PC type you may have.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

I'm not sure that I dislike anything about SmartDeploy.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Configuring new PCs is dramatically quicker. We know that every PC is configured exactly the same. With 1 solid configuration on our PCs, we have less support tickets. The ability to push device drivers and BIOS updates from the SmartDeploy console has been helpful in keeping PCs running smoothly.

 ### 20. Easiest imaging software to use.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jim R. | Imaging, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

The platform packs make is so easy to get all the drivers for all the different machines I image.
Technical support is outstanding and quick!

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Nothing, it works great, Keep up the good work and improvements.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Do not hesitate to try it.
One you try it you will not use anything else.
So easy to use.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Took our imaging time down from 4-8 hours down to 2 hours or less.

 ### 21. Best solution for imaging

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan W. | Systems Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Smart Deploy has a simple and intuitive interface. Updating and maintaining my deployment media is simple. There's lots of support for any PC your organization uses. The ability to deploy over the cloud is great especially during the pandemic.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

I do have to update my deployment media often. There are times where an image works perfectly on one system, but not on another of the same model. Not the best solution for deploying software, or installing the software when its imaged. It's a great tool if you are just using it to deploy images

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The imaging process is automated to the point that I can start imaging machines and attend to other duties.

 ### 22. Simplified Imaging

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Platform Packs have drastically cut down on building our images. Also the benefit of deploying remotely or across buildings without having to bring a computer back to our office has been a huge time saver. Also having the ability to deploy driver updates from a single console has been a time saver as well. The interface is also very easy to use.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Concurrent users can't login to SmartDeploy to build USB Deployment keys. Would be great if multiple technicians could use the system at once so they can create the media they need without waiting for someone else finish up.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's solved having to bring machines back from offices as previously mentioned and saved time on deployment. It's also helped us get insight into how many machines are on a previous build and assisted us with how many more needed to be upgraded with transitioning from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

 ### 23. Greatly Smooths Out Testing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Defense & Space | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Support is always there and very helpful and once configured we could use our own OneDrive for storage. This kept our images in our compliant data store rather than having to rely on another provider.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

The one improvement i could see being of great impact would be a unified cloud based UI. This would allow more than one administrator access to deploy images remotely as well as manage inventory.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an engineer i have to test frequently. Being able to generate a master gold image of a test scenario and then reset multiple computers on different hardware within minutes is a huge boon and shortens the cycle to test, observe, and reset.

 ### 24. Great Imaging utility!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Blake C. | System Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

We use this as a MSP, these are the best things I have noticed thus far:
Great Support Team, easy to communicate with them! The console is the best and always improving! Using SD to image multiple new machines a week has vastly streamlined our processes. Extremely easy to create and update new ands existing images.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

No dislikes! SD is a fantastic application and really streamlines our processes.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our imaging of new machines.

 ### 25. It is simple and saves time.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dante S. | Network Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

It gives you a good amount of options in initials setup for deployment. A handful of the options save hours of time with automation.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Platform packs are a little clunky, I have to manually touch and update those. I wish they would be more up-to-date and use an api between my network and SmartDeploy Platform pack servers to keep our Platform Pack's up to date.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps with time management, speeds up image process.

 ### 26. Imaging computers has been easy since we discovered SmartDeploy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter K. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

The ease of use and great documentation.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

New platform packs aren't always available when you need them.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to set up each computer manually which took a lot of our time. We experimented with some other platforms like Clonezilla for imaging but they were not very intuitive. SmartDeploy changed the game for us and now we spend a fraction of the time we used to spend on computer setups.

 ### 27. Smart Deploy - Feature Rich with a small Learning Curve

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

I like that once you get the hang of the software it is as simple as can be to deploy. Just build a virtual machine the way you want it. Capture the image and create your deployment media. To build an image, you simply create a virtual machine in either Hyper-V or VMWare, install all the software packages you wish to deploy with the image and run all the updates you need on the image. Then you can proceed to make any security, configuration, or user experience adjustments and then shut down the image. You then have to use the console and capture the Image which is as simple as stepping through a wizard and picking a save location. The ease of not needing to manually create partitions and other base system settings like you would with other deployment tools is helpful.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

There is a bit of a learning curve to creating the answer files and making sure you have all the correct settings. Also, depending on the model of system you are imaging, there can be difficulty getting those systems into a boot configuration that can accept the image to be deployed. One of the difficult things that I ran into was the challenge of getting the system I was working on to boot properly into the media. I tried following support's recommendations and did not have much success with that. I ended up having to buy the product to get official support so that I could receive the "premium support" and then found out that it was my antivirus software on the deployed image that was blocking it from working.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

If you are considering Smart Deploy, contact them for a trial license. I acquired a longer-term trial license through their booth at Spiceworks Spiceworld IT Conference and was able to test it out completely before I used it. With this trial license it allowed me to do a full-blown test to ensure that the solution would work for a number of our systems before purchasing the software. This allowed me to go to my boss and show him the progress and usability and make a stronger use-case for purchasing the software.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Due to the COVID situation, we had to push out a number of laptops in a short amount of time. This solution was able to help me deploy 35 laptops in a matter of 3 days. So much faster than if I had to do this by hand for each system. This system has significantly reduced my overhead and time spent working on systems. It now takes me less than 20 minutes to completely deploy a new laptop in or organization instead of several hours. With this platform it saves us time and also helps ensure that we have consistent images when we deploy our systems, which our auditors absolutely love. Based on it's ease of use and the amount of time it takes to deploy an image I now have lots more time to make sure security settings are complete and correct, as well as making sure that all systems are spec'd identically which the auditors also love.

 ### 28. SmartDeploy is so easy to use!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

As a former user of Symantec Ghost I could not believe how easy SmartDeploy was to use. I was imaging my first machines about a half hour after installing the program. In addition the help and support for the product are exceptional.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

So far nothing it has all of the features i need and works as expected so no complaints at all.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has made updating apps much easier with the deploy apps feature and the driver packages have simplified image creation. Time savings has been the biggest benefit for me as it would take weeks sometimes to work out issues with my old solution.

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

This tool having everything inbuilt feature, You dont have to worry about anything manual intervention.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

It has a limition like if we are updating image one machine, we have to be dependents if other person has to update the image. If you can build the sync feature that would be very helpful.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Image Deployment

 ### 31. Great IT Management Tool

It has an intuitive and easy to use interface. It serves the need of deploying new PCs and updates to our solutions throughout our firm.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Takes some time to dial in some of the advanced features. The complexity of some of the solution installations only makes SmartDeploy about 705 effective. Not necessarily a SmartDeploy issue, but it's a challenge we continue to struggle with.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automated software deployments for 100+ users and new PC deployments creating a customized and standard image for the various systems that we deploy in our firm.

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Ease of use, and the platform packs are genius as long as you stick to mainstream brands of PC/Laptop.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Licencing is slightly opaque, the number of actively consumed licences should be more easily accessible from the console.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rebuilding of Windows Laptops/Desktops across a 9 site site organisation, with "non-technical" staff at the remote locations.
Much easier solution to deploy than competitors, although they might be more flexible, as a small team we needed a solution which was ease to deploy and use. Smart Deploy meets this requirement.

 ### 34. SmartDeploy takes the place of Symantec Ghost

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Up to date driver packs for each machine are installed during the imaging process.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Takes some time to get familiar with the imaging process. When we first purchased the product, we called SmartDeploy helpdesk several times for guidance. They were very helpful to get the product off the ground.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had used Symantec Ghost successfully for many years. As equipment advanced and their software changed, it became impossible to use. We were very happy to find SmartDeploy as an excellent replacement for Symantec's product.

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Smartdeploy takes the complexity out of computer imaging. Smart deploy continually adds to features to the product and continues to innovate. While we don't use all of the new features, I can see this benefiting many organizations.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Not a huge deal, but I'm not a super fan of their interface. Nothing wrong with it per say, just feels a little dated.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartdeploy has saved us a lot of time and enables us to easily keep our images up to date. Our manta in IT is to Standardize, Simplify and Consolidate. Smartdeploy has helped us in all of these areas.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pushing out software and reimaging PCs

 ### 45. The last imaging solution you'll ever buy.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Timothy B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

The quick and easy setup of the console along with superb documentation makes getting up and running with SDE super easy. Then having the one golden image that works across any enterprise Windows device makes imaging as simple as it can be. The ability to easily refresh/re-image your entire fleet is made simple by SDE and their downloadable platform packs that contain ALL necessary drives for most all enterprise grade Windows machines.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

The only thing not to like is that SDE isn't free. There is literally nothing that I don't enjoy and recommend about SDE. SDE is one of my three go-to tools that will travel with me no matter where I am working.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Give the trial a go and you'll wonder why you haven't already made the move to SDE.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Refreshing or imaging current and new machines is no longer a painful process. It is now 99% hands off and automated and can be done physically at the machine (I integrate with WDS) or remotely from the office whether the device is in network or not. During this pandemic, it couldn't be more imperative to touch as few devices as possible. That makes the remote imaging and software deployment for both in and out of the network devices is critical right now. Having such a great imaging tool makes troubleshooting an issue with a device extinct. I just simply start a re-image and walk away. SDE has increased my efficiency in maintaining our current fleet of Windows machines as well as any new machines that arrive.

 ### 46. Fantastic tool

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeremy T. | IT Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

There are many different options for setup and deploying, it has a vast array for various different user setups. You can configure to deploy the OS and configurations, as well as user apps and profiles. It makes for a very easy and hands off deployment for many more machines at a time.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Takes time for users to really learn and start using to a beneficial extent. Fairly complex. but that is to be expected. You can look at videos and forums to learn more about it to really implement it to your needs. There is a lot to learn and it can take a lot of time, but it is worth doing to make it as powerful and effective for your organization as possible.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Take the time to learn the software. It can be a lot to look through, but there are a lot of features and things worth implementing. Through their support site as well as online forums and videos, you can look through and find information to help you implement it to the fullest extent.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Decreases the number of unique workstations and greatly increases the speed of deploying hardware. Where an attended installation may take 20+ minutes, a properly configured deployment setup can be used to deploy OS/apps/settings all at the same time on various different machines.

 ### 47. SmartDeploy saved us a tremendous amount of time during COVID19

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

SmartDeploy is very user friendly. It doesn't take long to learn about the program. It keeps getting and better and that's a good sign of a company who stands behind its product.

I have used Microsoft Deployment Tool Kit in the pass and that was a pain to manage. Since the COVID19 outbreak, we had to start imaging many computers for users working from home. Our manager told us "SmartDeploy saved our butts". If it wasn't for SmartDeploy, we would have to truly spend double or triple the amount of time for setting up all the required equipment. We are truly thankful for having such a wonderful tool to assist us in such a difficult time. SmartDeploy is the ultimate tool for deploying/imaging.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

SmartDeploy searches are slow on the server side. We have a little more than 300 computers but the delays are there when trying to search. Typing in partially the computer name will take time for it to refresh the result. I'm sure SmartDeploy will keep improving since this is a minor issue.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

If you're looking for an easy tool to manage OS images/ Deployment this is it. It doesn't get any easier than this. Save a lot of time for doing same thing over and over again with this tool. SmartDeploy has potential to become a better well rounded piece of software that does everything painlessly and I'm not going with anything else except SmartDeploy.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time is money and we saved a lot of it with SmartDeploy. The old way of imaging a computer take two or three time longer and at the end we still didn't have the image exactly as we wanted. The learning curve is such a big part of this program. I can't say enough on how user friend it is. Not having to download drivers is a big plus and having the ability to create packages for deployment is a god sent feature.

 ### 48. Outstanding imaging solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John H. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 04, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Smart Deploy has worked very well for our law firm of about 90 users. We evaluated several other solutions such as Kace and SCCM, and Smart Deploy was the easiest to use and meets all of our needs. The actual time to set it up was done in hours, not days or weeks. We were testing it on the first day we started rolling it out. The most time consuming part was simply creating our master image the way we wanted it. The support team has been exceptionally responsive and accommodating on creating some Platform Packs for some HP consumer grade laptops for us. We can literally take a new PC from its box to fully imaged in about 20 minutes. We are primarily using the Offline Deployment option because it is so simple to use. Overall, we are very pleased with Smart Deploy and can highly recommend it.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

I don't have much that I don't like. There are several options for deploying images and we have not had a chance to figure out some of the more advanced options yet.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploying new or re-imaged PCs to our end users.

 ### 49. SmartDeploy eases pain of imaging and re-imaging computers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard W. | IT Director and HIPAA Compliance & Security Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

SmartDeploy makes it easy to image a computer, attach it to our domain and our Wi-Fi network. I really like the platform packs and how they automate updating drivers both at install and across the network.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

Clients occasionally lose connection with the deployment server. I really want the console to be multi-user so that my team can work with the cloud options on their own without requiring a single non-shared cloud account.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a really labor intensive process for setting up new computers and re-imaging current workstations

 ### 50. Robust Imaging Software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about SmartDeploy?**

Personally I enjoy not having to install all the drivers on every computer that I am imaging. SmartDeploy takes care of installing the correct drivers on the correct computer models and if there is a computer with specialized hardware installed i can setup a special driver package that will then be installed when the computer is imaged.

**What do you dislike about SmartDeploy?**

We have had a few failures when imaging computers but thankfull they are easy to fix. I would simply make a SmartDeploy bootable USB and tell the machine to start imaging once again.

**Recommendations to others considering SmartDeploy:**

Try it out, I highly recommend it. as with all software it takes time to get used to.
i have sorted my computers by which lab they are in and gives me full control when it comes to moving them from one group to another.

**What problems is SmartDeploy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We once had an imaging system setup where we could only image so many at a time, if I sent more than the limit they would wait in line and i would not know which computer was next to image.
With SmartDeploy i can send out the first batch of images for a lab, schedule another lab for later on in the day.
Now i do not have computers in different labs that have and have not gotten imaged.
