# What are the best smart contract auditors for DeFi protocols and complex smart contracts?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">I'm researching smart contract audit providers for DeFi protocols and complex contracts, and the honest starting point is that G2's <a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/smart-contract-audit-services">Smart Contract Audit Services</a> category is genuinely thin, most listed firms have single digit review counts, even though names like CertiK and Hacken are well known in the space and simply haven't accumulated reviews here yet. Working from what does have real reviews, <strong>HackenProof</strong>, <strong>Plavno</strong>, and <strong>Softstack</strong> are the ones I'd point to first.</p><ol>

&lt;p&gt;For a complex DeFi protocol, I’d be cautious about using the same firm to build and audit the contracts. Development context is useful, but an independent second set of eyes reduces the risk of assumptions carrying from implementation into review. I’d also want a second audit round after remediation, plus ongoing bug-bounty coverage once the contracts are live.&lt;/p&gt;
