No one likes it **Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Defense & Space | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2015 **What do you like best about Octant?** The outline structure is easy to follow and find what you are looking for - not for the older people in my office, but for me. I like that you can get a dedicated link to send people as well, so they don't have to hunt. **What do you dislike about Octant?** It has literally lost my documents 5 times in less then a year. I've taken to saving to my desk top to avoid losing a day of work. It's fairly ridiculous how much trouble I've had and I believe it's linked to compatibility issues with MS and security systems on my computer. **Recommendations to others considering Octant:** Consider another product. **What problems is Octant solving and how is that benefiting you?** None - the point is to keep proposal docs in a secured location and lock editing privileges; it fails to perform well in this very basic function. **Official Response from Wynn Moore:** > First and foremost, we are sorry that you are experiencing these issues with Microsoft Word. It is frustrating for anyone when Word ‘ate my document’ – especially in light of the high pressure of creating proposals. The ability for Word to connect to SharePoint is a very powerful feature that millions of people use every day with minimum problems - and is the same powerful feature that you have in place with Octant. When problems do arise, however, we find that it’s usually an issue with one or both of the following items: 1. Lack of maintaining Octant’s recommended minimum requirements on your computer 2. Incompatible and older software tools: firewalls, VPNs (your Pulse system), anti-virus, certain browser or more importantly, outdated versions of Microsoft Windows, web browsers, Microsoft Office, and not enough RAM on your computer to handle complex proposal documents, etc. We are happy to work with you or your IT group to troubleshoot and resolve these types of issues. So please reach out to us anytime at support@octant.com. By the way, we literally do mean ‘anytime’ – we understand the tough proposal schedules and have been known to take troubleshooting calls in the middle of the night. Our product is constantly undergoing enhancements and the ability for advanced folder permissions (folder, sub-folder level and more) is one of our newer features released several months ago. It’s quite possible that you don’t have the most recent Octant update, in which case we recommend that you contact your Octant Administrator. We are happy to work with your organization in obtaining the latest version. Regarding the ‘extraneous’ features comments, we are so sorry to hear that. We pride ourselves on the hundreds of tools that are designed for specific purposes and is precisely what makes our system so flexible but they are definitely not intended to be used all at once. Your Octant Administrator has the ability to turn on/off only the tools you require and suggest minimizing availability of 'extra' controls based on the specific opportunity type. Often we find that extra features are activated with the intent of helping but in practice, it actually creates more confusion and is not recommended. Of course, we can help you align the controls/features to your specific capture, proposal or task order processes too.
