Once you figure it out, it's very easy to quickly create a project. **What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?** The basics are easy, but you'll need good training to figure out the most complex and advanced aspects of Project. The reporting is lacking out of the box and a few custom settings must be made to prevent users from removing tasks and get a better master view of the overall portfolio. **Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:** Make sure you use a good partner to implement PS and understand good project management skills. We currently use a SAS model and lease our PS space, and our host is not very good. The present libraries are enhanced SharePoint lists and not integrated in the schedule and decision/driver libraries. Overall I would give this service a B. **Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:** MS Project Server is a tool who's return will not immediately be achieved. It takes commitment and resilience from implementers to users all around to take full advantage and incorporate features in current organizational processes. **What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** MS Project has helped us in portfolio alignment and resource capacity management. ### 31. It can meet the needs of almost any business on that is mature enough to consider investing in a EPM/PPM platform. **What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?** Usually requires that the business have mature PM (Project Management) processes and/or a Project Server Guru to configure the platform to more business specific requirements. **What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lack of a common Program Management (EPM/PPM) platform and lack of sophisticated Resource Management/Capacity Planning tool set We've achieved EPM/PPM goals in some areas of the business with the added benefit of cross-functional collaboration increase from use of common project sites. ### 32. This tool provides visibility into the type of work being performed as well as the resource forecasting options. **What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are solving the transparency on what resources are working on. We also use the timesheet functionality of Project Server which allows us to book time against capital projects, which is very helpful in budget allocation. I also like that Project Server is tightly integrated with SharePoint, since we use SharePoint for a variety of other efforts. **What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?** There is a bit of a learning curve when a PM comes on board, especially if they have not worked with Project Server before. It's straightforward to use when it comes to assigning tasks and setting milestones, etc.... Integrates nicely with other Microsoft Office Components. **What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?** Making changes to time estimates isn't always intuitive and for small projects just putting together an Excel spreadsheet with all of the tasks is actually a little bit easier. **Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:** Definitely use this tool for large scale enterprise wide projects. Project managers have to manually update what tasks have been done and have no real clear view (unless MS project server is install) of employee loading across all projects. This result in Project Managers spending more time on admin of their projects rather than project management. **Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:** If you have large projects try looking at a project execution tool. This will enable you to have time-sheets automatically link to projects, and any deliverables automatically stored against the project.
