**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

Microsoft Project Server is the next level for all MS Project Professional users; it helps to manage the project at the enterprise level, in addition, you can have Project Life Cycle Workflow ( Demand Management Workflow), also you have the ability to manage your resources at the enterprie level in addition to other feature that you get with Ms Project Server.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

It would be better to have a table or a list as a type of custom field that can be used for reporting; this will be easier than creating a list on the project site. Also, it is better to have more out-of-the-box reports that can be used on a vanilla implementation.
One thing also is the limitation of baseline. It is limited to 11 from a long time ago and is still available.
Finally, it would be much better if we could automatically generate project documents based on a predefined template ( project charter, for example). This will be an eye-catching feature, in my opinion.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MS Project Server helps to create a central repository for all projects where also you can define resources from the enterprise pool so multiple project managers can use it at the same time in a way to get more information about resource allocation. Also, as Project Server is built on top of SharePoint, you can benefit from the collaboration feature like the Project Document. This is a SharePoint document library on the project site where you can store all your project documents with versioning and any approval workflow if needed.

**Reviewed by:** daksh m. | Mentor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

It is one of the most useful apps when it comes to project management, that is if you are actually a vivid learner and are willing to put in numerous hours to actually master the tool.
Once you gain the full insights of the tool and know how to use it in every use case this could prove to be one of the most powerful project management tools.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

The con and pros align together for this one, pros being that you get a powerful tool to solve your problems but the cons being the time you need to master it with the small amount of assistance provided by the application itself to learn, and also in a less price range you can get some pretty decent softwares to work on like liquid Planner.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The tool pretty much sums up all the requirements that are needed to make an impressive project management tool.
With each project you add there are a number of information that you can add and alter along the way.
The graphical outcome in form of charts is pretty impressive too as these charts formed are interactive.
It helps me in resource management and creating reports.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

I like Project Server because I can pull it up and work on it off a web browser during times where I don't have access to the MS Project application. It has all the essentially functionalities of a standard Microsoft Project and I am able to seemlessly link/unlink tasks, update status, and make other common edits to my project.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

THere's not much to dislike but I would say it takes time to get use to the user interface of Project server as opposed to working on the MS Project application itself. But once you're use to the interface, it's pretty much smooth sailing.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

It is a great tool especially for project schedulers or scheduling analysts dealing with an IMS (integrated master schedule).

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A common problem that I'm solving is that Project Server allows me to work anywhere where I can have access to a web browser. This is essential because I don't always have my work computer handy but it still allows me to check into projects and make edits on the go.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Packaging and Containers | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

I have been using Microsoft Projects to manage my Capex projects. It comes with an additional amount with the Microsoft Office license which is good and reasonable. Due to it being a Microsoft Project, it is easy to get along with. The menu options are similarly located as that in Microsoft Excel and the layout is similar to it as well. I use it to mainly build a Gantt Chart for my projects. It also a a sub-project function which helps me to divide my projects and timeline efficiently. The data portion of the software has an excel format. You put in the task, the dates and it will automatically pop-up on the Gantt Chart on the right. These bars on the Gantt Chart are interactive where in you can change the color, type, etc. for visual separation. You can also link different projects together. I love this because I can have a number of dependent projects going on simultaneously and can track all of it to ensure timely delivery. Additionally, it offers a Calendar View and Diagram View which helps to visualize things better.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

One of the things I do not like about this software is that it is not for beginners. If you are not an experienced project manager, you would not know the details correctly and you won't be able to use this software to its true potential. In that case I would advise you to go to the other products in the market. There is no training available for this software and you would pretty much have to learn every thing on the go.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Microsoft Project for managing my Capex Projects.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

The learning curve of MS Project server is bit difficult. But once you have learned it, it is very easy to use it. Also it have limited integration to open sources.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

it is an excellent project management tool if you know the right path. can easily handle the team and monitor with help of tutorials provided. rest of the things can be learned while using the server itself.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have managed to see all my project members project status, work completed and the tractability is very easy in microsoft project server. One also easily assign work to the reporting members and can show the pictorial representation of the project status to higher officials

  ### 36. MS Project Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rob B. | Owner, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

The ability to share timelines with team members in real-time.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

Heavy back-end setup needing to set up a SharePoint site to host projects.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Make sure you look at all of the back-end setup needed to implement Project Server. There is a lot of customization that you can do to make the product work for your industry.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 37. MS Project Server review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel S. | Cloud Transition Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

First and foremost the ability to actively collaborate with a project team is key and Project Server provides that capability. The ability to create and track tasking and forecast dates while empowering project team members to update their own tasks improves efficiency and increases success of projects.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

Depending on the availability of licenses, the project can be impacted if leadership does not feel the need to purchase proper licensing for the product.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Ensure you take into consideration the CPU and Memory requirements for the OS, SharePoint, and Project Server. I've seen implementations fail as these were not taken into consideration and the user experience was lackluster. Also, if you are going to deploy Microsoft Project Server, do not take away out of the box capability to attempt to protect any uptime requirements. Plan and maintain the environment based on the full suite of capabilities to allow for optimal end user experience.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problems that get resolved with MS Project Server is that it provides visibility into a project for both the team and leadership. You can quickly create reports and dashboards so that leadership is able to satisfy their requirements, while also tracking tasking for the team.

  ### 38. MS Project Server Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Randy J. | Manager, Operations Applications, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

I really like the resource management capability of PS. It takes some work to get to reliable resource management but it can be done. Also, my organization uses the time sheet function and it is a very valuable tool. Project Server also does a good job of managing projects with subprojects.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

Project Server is a big foot print. My organization uses it on premise and not in the cloud so we have to have not only the Project Server instance but also a SharePoint instance to support project sites. This integration between SharePoint and Project server can require a number of support resources.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Be prepared for a steep learning curve if new to the Project Server environment. There may be user resistance based on their comfort level with PPM tools.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems being solved focus mainly on future planning and capacity for resources. We regularly use reporting functions and resource planning tools to see what we can take on in the near term and long term. Realized benefits are the capabilities to utilize custom fields to calculate time and dollars. We have to report, by business unit, time spent on projects. By using the custom fields in Project Server, we have devised a way to get the numbers we need to report. Lots of flexibility with custom fields.

  ### 39. A review from a project server consultant

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Baker W. | Senior SharePoint and PPM Consutlant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

Ease of use , collaboration and reporting on the project server version ( not online)

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

Some limitation like baseline only 11, integration with other software (ERP for example), workflow. Also reporting on project online.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Project server is a good tool for project management , but it has to be implemented in the right way so you can maximize the benefits of using it. Also upper management support and follow up on resources to use the system is a must to get a good result

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Team work and project management, reports that give needed information for project status. PM and management can have a better understanding of projects status and resource utilization

  ### 40. Microsoft Project Server installation and configuration, create workflows and reporting.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexandr T. | Senior System Engineer/System Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

Microsoft Project Server is intuitive and easy to use of all company employee, also it really nice tools for work with remote employees, manage your project, distribute tasks and resources of all companies. Microsoft Project Serve provide superior vision of project status and provide a lot of useful reports.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

Own Microsoft Project Server needs a lot of IT resources and a dedicated IT team.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Before your organization will implement Microsoft Project Server you should have at least a draft of your company processes or should want to make your processes clear. Because a Microsoft Project Server is not a "silver bullet" is a tool that can help you and your company achieve clear project management and clear company processes. Also always make a plan for implementation with checkpoints.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clear Project management is a key benefit, easy resources management, standardize company workflow process and destroy mess and chaos. Too many companies would like to get ISO certifications, but it definitely not possible without clear and predicted processes and responsibilities, Microsoft Project Server is one of the best tools that help your company achieve these goals and get benefits of clear project management and vision.

  ### 41. MS Project Server is a MUST for any organization managing multiple projects & resorices

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle B. | Senior Solutions Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

The ability to view manage resources for capacity planning is one of the most helpful features of MS Project Server. An upside to being able to manage resources is quickly & easily identifying resource overallocation & remaining availability.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

The least helpful aspect is the Status Reports feature, as it hasn’t really changed or been upgraded since its introduction in Project Server 2003. A downside to using Project Server is the infrastructure cost & requirements to implement & maintain it.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Leverage your current reports and reporting requirements to help you understand your organizational needs and functionality within the system.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely being able to manage resources better! To able to view assignment details across all projects and view the impacts of those assignments in easy to read graphs with supporting details is awesome. You can even manage resources without an official ’Resource Manager’, as PMs and other users can use the features within the tool to at least review resource utilization and remaining availability before assigning them tasks within their own project schedules.

  ### 42. Its a good program overall. Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andres V. | Assistant Product Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

How easy it is to edit it. I like the details of the program itself. Personally i think the program. Overall looks great and does the job right.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

I did not enjoy navigating the program. Its difficult to find specific things at times.

it's silly to have to navigate to a site only then to have to open a document in Word to view the information in it. It negates the whole usability purpose of the web.

It's so tied in with Microsoft Office on Windows it is unusable on any other platform

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Navigation is key. A better layout can help go a long way

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to plan out big up and coming projects for my employer. It helps set out a plan for our project and keep the team on the same page.

  ### 43. It pushes you to reach your goal and motivates you to have quality-work perspective.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alejandro S. | Marketing Manager & PR, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

The visual help gantt diagram designs on the tool gives you along with the score of how your progress is.. it pushes you to have a work ethic to always been active and don’t make the project longer than what it should take.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

The trainee program and culture in many companies is not enforced cause the advertisement about this tool is not enforce by Microsoft. It’s very useful, so it should be a tool advertise and instructed in schools and universities as Word, excel or power point.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’m pushing the company where I work for to reach new goals and keep growing. If I had to use a synonym to translate what MS project server is I would use words such as “Evolution” or “progress”. The company grows because of the reach of tools like this one

  ### 44. Most comprehensive enterprise project management software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

This is probably one of the most mature and extensive enterprise project management solutions on the market. every reporting, analysis, resource management tracking, etc. problem I have ever encountered or can think of has some kind of feature that Microsoft has implemented to address or at least try to address. The people behind this product definitely have the input from the most experienced of project managers.

Otherwise there probably is a software vendor that has made a VAR business out of it.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

PMO solutions are a very competitive field, and everything is constantly evolving. Microsoft is a good example of a holding company that has bought out various companies with entirely different technology stacks that don't perfectly always complement each other in unison. They have many products that compete internally for market share and as a result trying to train a PMO group to support and completely leverage this application to its full potential can be monumental task.

There is a huge learning curve to the MS Project application adoption, MS Project also has a plethora of bugs and connection errors when trying to synchronize with MS Project Server, especially when you compare it to its competitors like JIRA or ServiceNow.

The permissions sync structure through SharePoint out of box could use some work, biggest gripe is the ability of non admins over the site being able to edit pages, you have to do a major overhaul of permissions to account for this and people usually find this to be a problem when the site becomes very developed.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Make sure you have a well rounded IT team, or a team that is very willing to learn a lot about supporting sharepoint, Dashboard BI analytics, can think logically and empirically step by step, and is very good at documentation.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When hundreds of people across various departments are all working on something and trying to just "do their own thing" it can be very difficult to keep track of all of them and make sure no one is doing redundant work or work that is wasteful. This product makes use of extensive version controls and notifications and sharing, the work is much more visible across the organization once you can users disciplined enough to follow a process.

It also saves a lot of time on the low/no code solution front, this makes developing a solution within this platform SO MUCH faster, it's essentially giving someone the capability of building a sophisticated web application for a business process within days where a custom web developer would otherwise take weeks if not months. You get to leverage all the stuff your organization has already set up using Microsoft, AD Identity access management, FAST search, SQL database and reporting, along with all the new stuff if you migrate to the cloud.

It's like Wix for corporate intranet, but because its a corporate intranet the capabilities of the platform goes so much further.

  ### 45. Best tool for Project Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harshal T. | Development Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

This is the best tool to capture all the project hours and each and every resource contribution towards the project. Also one can automate processes in this tool.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

Servers could slow down sometimes and your work may be lost.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have utilized it for Project Management. Setting various tasks in the project for resources and capturing their chargeability against the chargecode. Taking out reports for a particular project and many other benefits.

  ### 46. Perfect tool for integrated project and load management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Federico B. | Senior Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

MS Project Server make so easy to understand who is working on what, the load management and to get insights out of our projects

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

The setup is a bit cumbersome and the the fact you must have MS Pro to get the most out of it

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to have hard time identifying on what our consultants and technician would have worked in the future weeks and having several project managers lead us to over allocation in some periods and free people during other periods. These did not help at all to manage our customers' expectations. With the introduction of MS Project Server no more over allocation of under allocation periods and it was so easy to give information to our upper management

  ### 47. Good product overall

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lida K. | IT Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

Powerful tool, lots of good EPM functionality. Good project prioritization module. Support of new Agile framework. Each project has a separate SharePoint site for collaboration. Easy to configure. To maximize the benefits some degree of project management maturity would be useful. Project Online is a valuable addition to the Office 365 suite.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

This is just a recommendation: This tool is not really easy to use for regular user, a good training program needs to be developed for more successful end user adoption. Need integration will Azure DevOps. Anybody who need access to a project schedule must have license (even to view it).

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Centralized project portfolio, collaboration on a project and attached SharePoint sites.

  ### 48. Very good and comprehensive EPM tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liav K. | Microsoft Partner Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

ease of use, Gantt views, and enterprise-level resource tools, easily register time on work items and take people's work schedule into accounts, determine the work budget (planned versus actual).
It also comes with grate BI capabilities and dashboards for share point and portfolio management.
planning, reporting, and project team collaboration are at the touch of a mouse button making the decision process enhanced and much more accurate.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

some bugs that are to be patched.. and sometimes the file size makes the loading or updating slow

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

schedule and resource problems are solved and projected

  ### 49. Keep track of project timelines and milestones in an easily digestible and convertible format

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

Project allows the streamlined use of project planning and with the ability to place project book's in a shared drive format can allow the live updates to keep the team on track. I love how Project is very similar to Excel in functionality, looks, and ease of use.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

Microsoft Project is dislike other competitors out there because it runs as "the old" way of tracking projects. There are numerous "newer" softwares that will do the same tracking as Project, but with a bit more ease of use for the user and the viewer.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Look around before confirming your system use. Better options out there

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy project planning. Integrates nicely with the Microsoft office Suite. Project helps to capture milestones, timelines, and related content into a clear roadmap for the team to track.

  ### 50. Project Server yes, but...

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pietro M. | Project Management Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project Server?**

Project Server has a huge amount of features (time recording; project progress monitoring; risk and issues; integration with SharePoint)

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project Server?**

It is not always easy to scale it down, so users might be overwhelmed.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project Server:**

Try to secure a strong sponsorship from the top management. It helps. Also, don't overestimate Project Management maturity level in your organisation. When rolling out Project Server, you can adopt an incremental approach where you make available new features in phases.

**What problems is Microsoft Project Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Project Server provides a single repository for all projects in the organisation. It helps standardization and reporting
