## Martus Reviews
 ### 1. Smooth Transition, Enhanced Budget Efficiency

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The personnel budgeting feature in Martus has significantly streamlined our budgeting process by eliminating our reliance on Excel. Prior to adopting Martus, I was responsible for building and continuously updating a personnel budget model each time the organization onboarded new staff or adjusted our FTE count, a process that was both time-consuming and prone to error. Martus has greatly improved both our efficiency and accuracy in this area. The implementation experience was equally impressive. The initial setup was seamless, and the training provided by Andrea M. and her team was thorough, patient, and well structured. Their use of video recordings as reference materials was particularly helpful. Thanks to their support, we were able to migrate our data smoothly and have the budget ready for BOD approval withing just two months.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

One area with room for improvement is the Report Builder. While the availability of pre-built templates does make the process more approachable, eliminating the need to build reports entirely from scratch, additional training on this feature would be beneficial. More in-depth guidance would help enhance the overall user experience and allow users to take fuller advantage of its capabilities.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus has effectively addressed our over reliance on Excel for budgeting and reporting purposes. By centralizing and automating key processes, it has simplified personnel budgeting considerably, resulting in measurable improvements in both efficiency and accuracy. Most notably, it has eliminated the need to manually revise budget models each time staffing changes occur, freeing up valuable time and reducing the risk of errors associated with manual updates.

 ### 2. Affordable, Feature-Rich Budgeting for Multi-Campus Ministries

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus is a great tool for budgeting. We are a church and I like how it is affordable and still has all of the functionality that we need. We are able to break out multiple ministry areas across 3 campuses and have a budget for each one. The support team has also been amazing in getting it set up and is very responsive.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The only complaint I have is when trying to run another area's budget, and if you go back to the main screen it clears out all prior filters. So if you were looking at the next fiscal year it kicks you back to the current one. If you don't catch it you could be looking at wrong data.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed our process to be more automated and more easily accessible to all of our areas. Before Martus, everyone would have to come to me to run them reports to see where they stood financially. Now, they can quickly look it up themselves and see all of the detail behind their numbers.

 ### 3. Easy-to-Access Web App with a Straightforward Budgeting Workflow

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clarence G. | Finance and Budget Committee Chairman, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

This is a web-based application that’s easy for all users to access. For our needs, the budget preparation process feels straightforward, with a clean layout that makes it simple to follow from start to finish.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Financial data can only be uploaded into Martus. Sometimes we have new activities but no corresponding account, and those still need to be added to the budget. Martus doesn’t provide a way to add these items, which makes it difficult to keep the budget up to date.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus provides real-time processing, with results available to all users at the same time.

 ### 4. Martus: Easy Setup, Intuitive for Non-Finance Teams, and Affordable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heather G. | Director of Finance, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus is easy to use and easy to set up. You don't need to be a a finance person to understand it and use it. We have educators and artists, who aren't finance minded, who find it easy to use and understand. The price is also very affordable.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

There is nothing that I have found that I don't like about Martus

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transparency for our budget managers to assess their own results. It also saves hours of report prep time each month.

 ### 5. Empowers Budget Management with Real-Time Insights

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

I like that Martus is user-friendly and syncs with our accounting software Sage. The most beneficial feature for me is being able to track budget to actual in real time. It allows budget owners to have more responsibility over their budgets and expenses, provides visibility into budget versus actual reviews, and lets us see transactions come in almost in real time. This helps us see where we stand in comparison to our budget throughout the year and track that accordingly. It was also really helpful having our own designated consultant, who was fantastic in helping us get trained and set up in the software. Internally, having one person on our team in charge of learning and teaching Martus worked well for our organization.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I think we're still trying to figure out how to use the Personnel feature in a way that's really helpful. Last year, instead of using the personnel feature, we just did kind of an estimate of salaries and wages costs and just put that amount into Martus as our budgeted number. It just seemed like more work to use the Personnel feature given it was our first year using Martus and we had a time constraint. I would also find it more helpful to be able to leave notes in the Dashboard > Financials reports. When we did Q1 budget vs. actual reviews, I had to export the monthly budget comparison report into Excel, write down all my notes about each variance budget line, and save it outside of Martus. Maybe a ReportBuilder report would be more helpful, but my organization is just starting to use that area of Martus.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus allows budget owners to manage their budgets and expenses with real-time tracking of budget versus actual reviews and transactions.

 ### 6. Martus gives our PM's visibility into their Financial Activity!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gabriela E. | Finance & Admin Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Giving all of our directors and managers visibility into their program without asking the finance team for a report.

The ability to create a Budget as a team in the same tool.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

It doesn't sync yet with our finance system but that is in the works! So excited. So that delay means I am still giving reports to PM's

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Less time pulling interim reports and detail for PM's. Also it helps us find mistakes easier.

 ### 7. Streamlined Budgeting and Forecasting with Some Sharing Challenges

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marna S. | Financial Controller, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

I use Martus for budgeting and scenario planning and I like how it makes it easy to load data into Intaact. I appreciate the forecasting feature with actual and budget, as it helps me to forecast how we are doing with the budget and identify any areas of concern. It provides a way to predict the end of the quarter and year.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

It's very segmented and I find it difficult to share department budgets due to special purpose worksheets. Not really because it is focused on high level budgeting not departmental or maybe I am just too new to the product.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Martus for forecasting our budget and addressing potential financial concerns, making it easy to load data into Intaact.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Marna - Thank you for sharing your experience with Martus and how it is helping you to better forecast through the year. Related to your comment on sharing departmental budgets and Special Purpose Worksheets, our team would be happy to see how we can help you in this area. Please feel free to submit a support ticket so we can follow up. Thank you again!

 ### 8. Easy Budget vs. Actual Tracking with Great Features

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The features and the ability to easily see budget vs actual.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The ability to build a custom report is there but it is cumbersome. Also you can't export the graphs which can be difficult when you want to do presentations for board members who don't have access to Martus

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability for multiple teams and managers to see budget vs actual at their fingertips. Also the ability to work thru forecasting for the ministry and each team. Visibility is essential and before Martus we were not able to establish this without going thru many worksheets and emails.

 ### 9. User-Friendly Budgeting Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark K.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

I love how simple it is to use Martus! During implementation, they worked with us to show us all the benefits of the system and how simple it is! From that training, I was able to train all our users and it was so easy! Additionally, I love the quick response to support tickets! They will have a resolution to you within an hour and the next thing you know, you're moving on to the next task! Lastly, I enjoy the API connection into Sage Intacct. When updates are made in Intacct, they are transferred into Martus that night and it is so easy to then upload back into Intacct.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The only thing I dislike about Martus is some of the features within the Personnel Budgeting module. There are limitations on the number of coverages that can be used for employees, making it difficult for a diverse organization such as ourselves that offers multiple insurance benefits to our employees.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to do our annual budget and quarterly forecast within Excel. As our organization grew, it was becoming too complex to do in Excel with potential human or formula errors. By utilizing Martus, we were able to speed up our process and feel more confident in our numbers without worrying about formula or human errors.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you so much for your great review! I'm glad to hear your feedback on implementation and support! Regarding the Personnel Budgeting module, we would be happy to take a look at the options with you. We'll also have some new features rolling out this year in this area to make personnel budgeting even better.

 ### 10. Great addition to our accounting department!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The tool itself is great and has enhanced our budgeting process as our organization continues to scale, in addition, the onboarding experience was the best software experience we have had in our 17 year tenure.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

There are so many layers and capabilities to Martus, so it takes some time to understand it all.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping us scale with sound year-over-year budget planning, and current budget up to date budget insights, lastly the forecasting feature.

 ### 11. Martus Is User-Friendly and Integrates Seamlessly with My Accounting Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus is so user friendly and the fact that it talks to my accounting software is a HUGE plus in my book!

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I am a fairly new user - the only thing that I can see is maybe a little more streamline adding employees.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus is helping our Agency develop and work thru a formal budgeting process to ensure accurate use of our funds.

 ### 12. A Cost-Effective Solution That Delivers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sean H. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The software gives us the features we actually need, is easy for the team to use, and provides clear, reliable budgeting insights—all at a price point that makes sense. Compared to similar tools, it offers excellent value without sacrificing functionality.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Like most tools, it isn’t perfect. Some advanced functionality requires extra setup or workarounds, but these are relatively minor compared to the overall value the software provides.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The software solves many of the common budgeting challenges we had with spreadsheets, including limited visibility, manual errors, and slow collaboration. For me personally, it’s been a major time-saver and has increased confidence in our numbers. I’m able to focus more on analysis and decision-making instead of maintaining files, which has made budgeting cycles smoother and less stressful overall.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Sean - Thank you for the great review! As always, if there is something our team can assist with - especially as it relates to the advanced functionality you mentioned - please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're happy to jump on a meeting and share screens.

**What do you like best about Martus?**

I like that I can customize the software to meet the unique budgeting and financial requirements of my agency
Seamless integration with Sage
Intuitive and easy, especially for end-users

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The need to manually refresh calculations and reports. Would love this to be automated

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamline budget process, workflow approval process, agency communication and participation

 ### 14. Clear, Real-Time Cash Flow and Budget Insights

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I Haven't used it enough to know! I need more time to work with it.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our ministry grew exponentially over the last two years and I need help with proper budgets!

 ### 15. Best Integrated Budget Planning Application

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The program is intuitive to use. It's integration with Sage Intacct is an invaluable tool for all of our budget managers throughout the organization. Additionally, the Martus support team is a cut above the rest. The response times are almost immediate, and the assistance provided always presents a solution to the issue.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I really don't have a downside to Martus. We were able to connect all budget managers quickly and our support representative provides in-depth training to all users on an annual basis.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Finance team as well as all department managers now have live database access to budget data against actual expenses and can run their own reports without requiring Finance team assistance.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you so much for this great feedback! Please don't hesitate to reach out to our team if we can assist in any way.

 ### 16. Easy to Learn, Outstanding Training Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus is really easy to learn to use. The training support we have received has been outstanding.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Marty is not very effective. Hard to find answers and documentation is difficult to get through.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provides visibility into financials. Eliminated running reports every month.

 ### 17. Martus has been a game changer for our organization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caleb B. | Budget Accountant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The ease of use, and all the different tools that are imbedded into Martus to help with budget planning in all of it's facets.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I don't like that when I wanted to open a worksheet in the Planner section, it doesn't automatically open it in a new tab. Because then I have to go back to the planner page to get to the worksheets and have to re-do my filters to get back to where I was at.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus is helping solve how much time it typically takes to do budgets. We have cut down on our time to complete budgets and even been able to bring in more of our budget leaders into the process to allow them more hands on decision making with their budgets.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Caleb - Thank you for your 5-Star review! A quick tip here concerning your comment in the Planner section when opening budget worksheets. You can do a Ctrl click to open the worksheet, and it will open in a new tab. This way, you can easily switch back to the other tab where you have other filters and worksheets. As always, feel free to submit a support ticket with any other questions. We're happy to assist!

 ### 18. Great Software and Service! Great Price!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Holly F.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus is easy to use and similar to using a spreadsheet but turbo-boosted. I love that it integrates seamlessly with our accounting software.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I haven't found a downside yet. There seems to be a fix for any issue that I have encountered.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus solves the issue of self-service for departments regarding accounting information. Managers can view their budgets vs actual on a real time basis and help our accounting team be super accurate as well by offering any reclasses. It has also allowed us to move our grant FSR reporting to Martus as well, also self-service.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you so much for your review!

 ### 19. Incredibly flexibale for financial reporting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The ability to slice and dice the data by choosing which dimension goes in rows and which in columns make it much faster than using the reporting in Intacct.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I'd like the ability to pick multiple dimension items instead of all or nothing; also would like to be ability to add or delete columns; needs a balance sheet

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used it ahead of implementing Intacct to define the Intacct account, department, program and event dimensions; budgeting is much better than Intacct's; reporting is much faster; gives access to managers but keep them out of Intacct;

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hello, and thank you for the great review! With the Intacct integration, you should have a balance sheet along with other standard reports. Please reach out to our Support team so they can assist with this. You can create a support ticket by going to Support > Open Support Website > Submit a new ticket. There's also a feature called "Reporting Groups" that sounds like it would help with your "multiple dimension items" filtering on reports. Our team can also show you that. Thank you so much!

 ### 20. Martus Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt D. | CFO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

I like that it updates instantly from our accounting system Sage 100 and I can immediately see results. In addition, Martus is constantly taking user suggestions and enhancing the product.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

No downsides to this software, Martus is easy to work with.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My organization used to do budgeting and reporting using Excel. These processes are now done in Martus and has sped up our month end closing process as well as our budgeting process.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you for the great feedback! Yes - Customer suggestions and enhancement requests help drive innovation and the road map here at Martus!

 ### 21. No more excel budgets!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laila A B.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The ease of use. The system is so user friendly, our managers are glad to be out of the excel game!

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The collaborative notes is a newer feature but its not robust yet. I am excited to see where that will go!

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to spend a ton of time with budget prep work. Pulling reports, setting up excels, etc. Now our time is actually spent on doing the budget and analyzing our results!

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Laila - Thank you so much for your review! Please feel free to let us know what you would like to see with the collaborative notes - one of the newer features, as you mentioned. Customer feedback like yours helps drive new product features and updates. You can submit a support ticket to share your ideas. Thank you!

 ### 22. Martus Makes Budgeting Easy and Reviewing Income and Expenses Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura U. | CFO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus has been an essential tool for us to be able to view our expenses clearly and create our budget each year. It is easy to use, customer support is fast and great. We use the tool everyday.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

There are a few enhancements I would still like to see, but they are constantly improving the tool.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus takes our financial data and formats it into easy-to-read worksheets. It puts budgeting in the hands of department heads, that is easy to review, update, and approve and then move into the accounting software.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Laura! Thank you so much for the great review! Regarding the enhancements you would like to see, you can submit a support ticket to let us know the ideas you have for future enhancements. That helps us and other customers as we continue to innovate.

 ### 23. Makes Life Easier

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Terri S.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

It integrates seamlessly with our accounting system (Intacct). it is easy to use, especially for non-financial managers. It is versatile.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

In our environment, retail with heavy turnover, it is not useful to use the detail personnel module - it would be a full time job just keeping up with turnover.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ability to track actuals to budget and ability to maintain forecasts

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Terri, thank you for your great review, and your comment about the detail in personnel when there is heavy turnover. One of the options I can recommend would be to create "pooled" positions for those that have high turnover, and not track it by individual employee. Our team can discuss this more with you if you would like to create a support ticket. Thank you again!

 ### 24. Favorable experience, helped to streamline our efforts in terms of budgeting & reporting.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shari L.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Users can easily access their own departments and fill in data.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Our business is nuanced, and sometimes the reporting has to be overly manipulated in order to get to the desired result.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We no longer have to deal with multiple Excel workbooks and broken links, thus resulting in data being compromised.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you for submitting the review! Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Support team for questions or assistance related to the reporting piece.

 ### 25. Great budget and forecasting tool!

Marts is clean and simple in it's presentation.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Martus can sometimes not be friendly to the eyes.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Rob - thank you for the 5-star review! Glad to hear Martus is solving the problems you identified. Regarding your comment on the "eyes," I would like to learn more about this to see what we can do to address this.

 ### 26. Martus as a new client

Nothing to really dislike, just know there is a lengthy learning curve for software terminology, and just learning the many options for configuration and reporting that exist.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Elevating our capacity for reporting and forecasting.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you for leaving Martus this good review! Please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team or your implementation consultant if you have any questions as you continue learning Martus. ### 28. A Game Changer for our organization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeremy H. | Business Administration Pastor, Religious Institutions, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Martus?**

It has been great for our staff to track their budgets easily. The system is powerful yet easy to use, and the integrations with Sage Intacct help take us to the next level.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The learning curve for the personnel budgeting can be overwhelming, but it is fantastic once you understand it.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our ministry leads' ability to easily see where they are in the current year is significant. We have empowered them to access this information, saving our Finance Team time. The information displayed is much easier to understand for an average end user who just needs to know how much they've spent and what amount they have remaining. It is powerful enough for our finance team and "power" users to provide key reports and insights that help us make informed decisions quickly.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Jeremy - Thank you so much for your kind words and positive review of Martus! We're thrilled to hear it's making a difference for you and your team.

Your feedback means a lot to us—if you have any questions we can help you with regarding the personnel budgeting area (or anything else), please don't hesitate to submit a support ticket and one of our consultants can assist accordingly.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

 ### 30. It is fairly easy to use and great for other employees to budget and view their actual results

Being able to pull reports that summarize the data well

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Can be a little tricky to understand how to pull different data

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provides a way for other departments to view their actual vs budget results without having to rely on the Finance dept

 ### 31. Great Budgeting Software!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barbara H. | Director of Finance, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

It allows me to give everyone the ability to do their budgets paperless

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

That it does not have a 360 integration with Shelbynext

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provides paperless budgeting with access to all previous years budgets. Give financial information access to all managers.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Barbara - Thank you so much for the great review! Regarding the mention of not having an API integration with ShelbyNext, unfortunately, ShelbyNext does not have an open API for extracting General Ledger transactions. In situations like this, we implement a flat file integration such that the GL report is exported from ShelbyNext, and then imported into Martus as often as you would like. No data manipulation to the export file since the mapping we set up in Martus at the time of implementation will read the file automatically that is exported from ShelbyNext.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Drill downs and month to month comparison.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

There is no balance sheet. Can't see assets and liabilities.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Drill downs. GL streamlines.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Roger - thank you for your review! The balance sheet is supported for some of the ERP integrations we have. Other integrations will be addressed, and I can check with our product team to see what the roadmap looks like for your ERP. Collaborative budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on budget vs actuals (with drill-downs and comparisons, as you mention) are great features in Martus. Thank you again!

 ### 38. Game changer- goodbye Excel budgets

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelly M. | Executive Director, Finance & Administration, Non-Profit Organization Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus has revolutionized the way our multi-site organization collaborates and puts dollars behind our vision. With access to real-time data, our team can see trailing 12 month actuals and/or budgets as well as a hybrid approach. This tool empowered our teams to be more involved in planning, casting vision for their departments under the umbrella vision of the organization. Even our very teams that are not financially-oriented have raved about the ease of use, as well as increased transparency and involvement/buy-in to our budgets. The use of Special Purpose worksheets and the Personnel module have been great additions to our process as well. The integration with Sage Intacct is seamless. Implementation is a snap, and to top it off, they have the best customer service around.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

It's hard to say we "dislike" anything because our entire staff LOVES MARTUS. If I have to say something, it would bet hat it can be a little slow at times, but this is not a significant issue. It doesn't allow user permissions to be different by location (if a user has access to a department, the user has access to that department for every location they are given location permissions)

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previously, budgets were done in Excel spreadsheets and manually entered. Martus has saved us a lot of staff time, while increasing involvement of key team members. It has also automated manual processes, with better controls and less margin for human error.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Hi Kelly: Thank you for your Martus review!

Regarding the comment about user permissions being different by location - we can facilitate this through the use of user "Profiles." In one profile, the user can be restricted to one department/location combination, and in another profile, it could be different. They can then easily toggle between those profiles. If you have additional questions we can address them through a support ticket. Thank you, again!

 ### 39. Makes budgets easy to organize

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ian M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The ease of use for accounting staff to setup budgets and assign them to departments. Support is always helpful and friendly. And the integration with Sage is also very easy once it is setup.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Could be a better user experience for non-accountants. Departments cannot share budgets amongst themselves (ie 2 people in the education department cannot both be assigned the same budget). And the financial/dashboard options are overwhelming and confusing. Overall non-finance staff has the same view that finance staff has, which probably isn't the best approach.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting a budget that spans many departments and areas and allowing the entire organization to collaborate on that budget without passing files back and forth via email and without accounting having to standardize everyone else's budgetary inputs.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience with Martus!

Regarding the ability to have users "share" departments, this can be done and it is controlled by a user's permissions and dimension restrictions. More than one user can share a budget worksheet.

For the financial/dashboard reports, non-finance staff can be assigned a default view globally or individually based upon a view that is best suitable for them.

Please reach out to Support if you would like to review this together.

Thank you!

 ### 40. We converted our budgeting process from Excel to Martus in 2022. Income Statement Reporting.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joe C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Martus?**

We converted from Excel to Martus in 2022. We budget for 45 departments and consolidate them. Martus has made our budgeting much more straightforward, easy to use and understand, easier to make changes and reforecast. This has increased access to and use of budget and income statement reports by department managers. It makes financial information more accessable and understandable for key managers.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The interactions between the interactions between personnel budgeting and the rest of the Martus application has been difficult.
There are no downsides.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Budgeting by department.
Budget vs. Actual reporting by month for each department.
Doing this is a way that makes these financial reports accessable, understandable and helpful for decision making for operating managers.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Joe: Thank you for sharing your Martus experience! We're glad to hear Martus has made your budgeting more straightforward and is easy to use and understand.

Regarding personnel budgeting, our team would be happy to discuss that area with you more to help bring clarity to how this interacts with the overall budget and answer any specific questions you may have. Please submit a support ticket if you would like to meet together and review this. Thank you!

 ### 41. Great budget software overall that directly integrates with Sage Intacct!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angela F. | Finance Director, Religious Institutions, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Thank you, Martus! We had previously used Google Sheets for budget entry by all 7 campuses and their departments. While this worked fine in years past, the workload on my end was very time consuming to update each campus's department sheets every year for managers/supervisors. This would include manualing adding new and updated sheets, adding annualized actuals for each account in each campus department, double checking, adding into my preliminary budget Excel file and then after any revisions, I would finally add each campus department account into the final budget template for upload into Sage Intacct, our accounting system.

With the implementation of Martus in Fall 2023, I was given a roadmap of information and support articles on what to expect for each training. The training was very thorough, easy and helpful. For the beginning of Martus budgeting, I added all of the information myself into the Budget Planner for my final budget task. Once I was done entering and double checking everything, with the click of a button, I directly exported my final budget into Sage Intacct. With just this specific final budget export task, I saved over 57% of my time by using Martus (22 hours instead of 52 hours from year before, from start to finish). This cost effective tool will roll out to our respective managers and supervisors this spring. As an admin, you can add user permissions to each manager and supervisor to they can only see a particular campus or department that they oversee.

Martus will not only allow managers to monitor and dive deeper with their monthly reporting but also plan their budgets, that are approved by supervisors. This will allow for a smoother, more efficient and reliable budget process that also enhances internal controls as our organization scales and grows. The system is very user-friendly and has easy to understand Help articles and videos in the Help center. Customer support has been helpful. With any new system comes a certain amount of learning, but with Martus, the ease of integration overall has been quite simple. I use Martus every day and once the the final rollout to managers and supervisors has been executed, I am confidant that they will find it easy to use, as well. I have been very pleased with Martus!

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

There isn't anything I dislike at this time. Since I have just started out, I would recommend a bit more study on the Personnel Budgeting so that you budget exactly how you want to see everything in your budget since this area is a bit more detailed.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problems Martus is solving are reduced manual effort, time and cost savings, higher accuracy, approval workflows, and enhanced internal controls. As a former auditor, this is wonderful to have at our fingertips.

 ### 42. Implemented 2x at 2 Companies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jill L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The software has made month-end reporting a breeze. I have implemented Martus twice, once with Sage Intacct and another time with QBO. The implementation of Martus was easy and the entire Martus team was fantastic to work with. They offer trainings to keep you current on best practices and meaningful updates. The integration with software to import actuals is seamless, making month-end reporting a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

This is a thoughtful solution. It may not be as robust as Workday Adaptive Planning, but not everyone has the capacity or need for such a program.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus helps me to efficiently manage my budget, forecast future expenses, and adjust to any changes in the business. With Martus, it's easy to create different budget scenarios based on changes in headcount, budget based on actuals, percentage changes, and more. Additionally, I use Martus for month-end internal and external department reporting. Overall, the two primary reasons to go with Martus are the significant time savings and the accuracy of data. Compared to Excel, Martus is a major improvement.

 ### 43. Martus is as valuable as our Church Management System

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lee R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus gives us actionable information we use weekly to ensure we are aliging our finances with mission and vision. We have 30+ users many who are creative and people oriented (not accountants) and the reports are so easy to use and understand.

Because the implementation was only two weeks our time-to-value was very fast. The integration with our accounting system means we have access to real-time Income Statements and Budget vs Actual reporting.

I love that Customer Support is domestic and so responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

We love so much about Martus. Because we know Martus releases new funtionality so often we know we don't have to wait long for more great things to come.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus made it possible for us to leave behind budgeting in Excel and gave us a cloud-based, integrated system for all of our budgeting, forecasting, and reporitng needs.

 ### 44. Great budgeting solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Before Martus, our organization was sending out locked spreadsheets to try to make the budgeting process for our employees easier. With that being said, they had to pull their previous year's spending from somewhere else, and the process of combining every department's spreadsheet was complicated and extensive. After we started using Martus, our employees immediately noticed the difference and appreciated the simplicity and quickness of the process. Collaboration between teams and approvals are all in the system and we no longer have to worry about taking care of 50+ spreadsheets and email approvals. Our employees have quick access to look at their budgets through our process, as well as access to multiple reports throughout the year to look at their expenses. The two-way integration with Sage Intacct has definitely been a huge win for our team and our organization.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

There's not much that we have not liked about Martus, but maybe just a little more flexibility to build custom reports.
Our employees have been able to find many answers to their financial questions by looking at the Martus reports, but sometimes they overlook some important ones because of there's too much information available.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem that Martus has solved for us is budgeting. We have been able to push our budgeting process to first-level employees. They are able to feel like they have ownership and collaboration through the budgeting process and the approvals and corrections are all being made online. We no longer have to use spreadsheets and long approval emails that get lost in our inboxes. The simplicity and easiness to use have gotten our employees excited to budget and not dread the process like they did before. Financial and budgeting information is available to them all year long.

 ### 45. Martus is awesome!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** A.Z. S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

I like the flexibility we have. In our organization, we have over 10 locations, with a series of departments. We were able to grant access to all the department leads with the necessary functionality to be able to easily use it and see their budget performance, our team was able to implement the software into their regular schedule to stay on top of their budget. The Integration was really easy and we received exceptional customer support.

We have enjoyed all the features it provides us. We use it for payroll budgeting for 300+ employees across multiple locations. We also use the planning and budgeting module for income and expenses. Our team uses the software very frequently.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Some of the payroll budgeting modules can be tricky to operate and require multiple steps, especially when you have an employee with multiple allocations. So need to make sure that you have good notes.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The variance report under the Detail Analysis report is one that our teams and department managers use to identify budget variances, and where adjustments need to be made monthly.
The other would be the budget Forecasting report, in order to see the full year, mixed with actuals and budget, it helps our team stay on track. The fact that our managers are able to click on any actual numbers to see the GL detail is extremely helpful and used frequently.

 ### 46. Martus budgeting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Martus is super helpful in our budgeting process, especially beng able to add worksheets to backup our budget numbers. Their customer support is terrific. They are super responsive when I have questions and will hop on a zoom call to walk me through any issues I am having.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

There is a learning curve in using some of their advanced reporting. Their reports could use some visual upgrades.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus has helped us solve some of our complex budgeting issues. It is also very helpful to easily share reports with our department managers.

**Official Response from Joseph Plagge:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience!

Martus has out-of-the-box reports that are easy to use and very flexible when creating different view.

There is also a ReportBuilder that allows you to create custom reports, KPI cards, and other charts and graphs.

Our team can provide you with some additional training. Please reach out to Support if you would like to receive some more training in this area.

 ### 47. No more spreadsheets, everyone in sync

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott H. | Managing Partner, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The tool itself is great but the people behind it make it even better. Support is always on it. Everyone is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to help.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I honestly can't think of anything I don't like.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our budgeting process has evolved over the years, we reached peak optimization when we brought in Martus.

Initially I worked on the budget with an outside accountant. We progressed to involving others in the discussion, working in spreadsheets.

Having it in Martus not only keeps us all on the same page in realtime but it allows us to leverage historical data and create multiple budget scenarios.

 ### 48. The Bridge between Accountants and Managers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph L. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

Our team loves the clear and easy presentation of their spending. The integration between Martus and our accounting system creates transparency with finance and accounting.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

I would like to see an easier implementation and reduction of steps in importing payroll data.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus has helped us to budget faster and more efficiently. The speed of budgeting within departments as we look back quickly to actuals is truly a game changer. Our managers and supervisors are able to monitor in real time their budgets and impacts of spending.

 ### 49. Martus Helped Goodwill Achieve Needed Budget Software Implementation.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sharon r. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The Software tool is extremely easy to use and navigate through. Martus and in particular the team that jumped in to ensure a successful launch when our organization went through a staffing struggle was absolutely perfect. The team ensured that everything was set up and even did training sessions with the budget holders. We were able to have a budget process that was not only sucessful but also earlier than scheduled timelines. I would highly recommend Martus.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

The only area I would say is the specialized reporting. I would love to use Martus as the primary reporting tool for all budget holders however, there is currently no way to create specialized reports.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hopefully there will be an upgrade for specialized report creation.

 ### 50. Amazing Experience with Martus Solutions

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caleb A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Martus?**

The visibility that Martus generates with our Intacct data makes it so much easier to both facilitate budget conversations with our different divisions and integrate into our management needs. Martus also has amazing customer support, a great team, and a very easy and simple implementation process that complements our other systems well.

**What do you dislike about Martus?**

Lack of balance sheet flexibility makes our use of Martus a little limited at the top level. We would love to see more of these features in the future.

**What problems is Martus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Martus is giving us broad visibility across multiple levels of management on our numbers. Our managers and directors live in the income statement view, and we are already seeing improved communication and richer conversation as a result.
