What is Mailgun, and what problem is it built to solve?

Mailgun is used to send and track email from websites and applications, especially automated transactional messages such as account notifications and password resets. It helps teams deliver email without managing their own sending infrastructure.

What languages does Mailgun support?

Mailgun supports 1 language: English.

What company sizes and industries is Mailgun the best fit for?

Mailgun is most commonly used by small businesses, with mid-market and enterprise teams also represented. The industries with the strongest presence include technology, internet, and marketing-related organizations.
  • Company size: Small businesses are the clearest concentration, alongside mid-market and enterprise teams.
  • Industries: Information technology and software, internet services, and marketing and advertising are prominent.

How long does it take to implement Mailgun across a team?

Mailgun can be quick to put into service: teams commonly report getting live in less than a day, while some take longer depending on their setup. The most common reported range is under a day.
Time to go live Relative frequency
Less than 1 day Most common
Less than 1 month Also common
1–3 months or longer Less common

What customer support options does Mailgun provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Mailgun provides 24/7 live-rep support, along with email/help desk and chat support. The experience is mixed: users describe helpful, quick resolutions, but others report slow or generic responses, particularly when issues need more involved troubleshooting.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Mailgun from another tool?

Teams have moved to Mailgun from services such as SendGrid, Amazon SES, Mandrill, and other email providers, as well as from self-managed SMTP servers. The change is often prompted by delivery or reliability problems, sending limits, cost, or a desire for clearer monitoring and an easier API; setup is described as straightforward by some, while others find the technical configuration takes work.

What tools and platforms does Mailgun integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Mailgun offers 5 listed integrations. Users describe connecting it with web and application platforms as part of their email workflows.
  • Websites and CMS: WordPress and WooCommerce.

  • Business applications: Salesforce.
These connections let teams send application-generated email through Mailgun and handle delivery tracking without managing email infrastructure separately.

What features or capabilities could make Mailgun even more useful?

Mailgun could be more useful with stronger tools for investigating email activity and managing campaigns. Commonly requested improvements include:
  • More searchable, flexible reporting and longer access to delivery logs.
  • A clearer dashboard and simpler setup guidance, especially for DNS and domain configuration.
  • More capable templates and campaign tools for teams that want to create and manage promotional emails in the platform.

"Very good customer service"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Mailgun?

Customer service is great. If you need help, they are there to help you. They spend the extra effort to understand your situation and provide a personalized help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mailgun?

Sometimes, delivery rates decreases unexpectedly. There are a few things that needs to be changed on the reporting side. However, these are minor things compared to the overall service. Their pricing model and what they recommend when you get in touch with a customer representative may not make sense for small business. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the ease of integration and the real-time reports with the main relevant information. This allows us to measure how many messages are delivered and view them, which helps to take actions for our clients and partners. The initial setup of Mailgun was simple and quick. Learning curve – the API-first approach is powerful but may be complex for non-technical users compared to more visual platforms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good integration with Laravel, but not without limitations"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Mailgun?

We have integrated Mailgun into a Laravel project to manage the sending of transactional emails and automatic notifications. The initial configuration is quite straightforward thanks to the native support of the framework: just set the parameters in the .env file and Laravel does the rest. The Mailgun driver is well supported and allows you to leverage the APIs without having to worry too much about low-level details.

The deliverability is good and the emails almost always reach their destination without ending up in spam, especially when using a verified domain with properly configured DKIM and SPF. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mailgun?

Opaque error management: in case of a sending failure, Laravel does not always clearly expose the detailed response from Mailgun, making debugging less immediate.

Advanced tracking (opens, clicks, bounces) and webhooks require manual configurations outside of Laravel, which somewhat breaks the out-of-the-box integration.

The limits of the free plan are quickly felt if you exceed 5,000 messages per month, and the costs increase significantly as traffic increases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I feel great using Mailgun, as I've never had a problem with it. It's reliable and consistently works well. I find the dashboard excellent for monitoring emails, along with the ease of creating new domains and SMTP configurations or APIs. These features are outstanding. "Mailgun is a wonderful email tracking system"
4/5
What do you like best about Mailgun?

I like being able to quickly search for a specific email address to determine if that email successfully delivered, and if that individual opened the email (and at what time). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mailgun?

Reviewing the sent email logs can sometimes be cumbersome. The "Quick View" function (which is intended to view the original email sent, not the MIME) doesn't work. That may be a setting with my employer, but if that were/is the case, my expectation would be that the "Quick View" button would be available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Very disappointed"

What do you like best about Mailgun?

it was very easy to set up and implement Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mailgun?

awful customer service. i signed up for a trial and then my account was disabled as soon as i started using it, citing that there were problems verifying my business (even though it was already verified). i was asked a few questions about the nature of my busines, the source of my leads, and links to my business website's privacy policy and terms of use pages. i happily obliged and provided them with all the information they requested and they still replied telling me that they decided to permanently disable my account without offering any explanation. i wished to reply to them, appealling this decision and properly escalate with a supervisor or manager, but i was not even given this as an option because it turns out that, after their latest message, they even blocked my email address from making any further replies. this is ABHORRENT customer service. i was presumed malicious throughout the entire process even when i fully cooperated with them. i cannot, in good conscience, recommend this service to anyone. i'll be taking my business elsewhere. What do you like best about Mailgun?

Ease of Integration, nothing else, that's it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mailgun?

The way they push all the responsibility to the customer. When contacting customer support they deny their responsibility in ensuring the service operates safely. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
