**What do you like best about KNIME?**

KNIME's UI is very helpful that it really helps to make it look visually simply. I know a lot about coding, but some of my co-workers only have basic knowledge, and they still use KNIME with no problem, as it's not necessary to code if you want to perform data mining, and you can even obtain a graphic of the data being processed. On the other hand, if you know how to code and you're familiar with Python language, you can add new and functions to your analytical model in order to simplify your work.

**What do you dislike about KNIME?**

KNIME is a very hard software that's complex even for programmers and coders. However, you can find videos and documents online, created by the same community, that will guide you through the platform. Also, visualization is not good enough. I think it can improve in order to make it more visually comprehensive.

**Recommendations to others considering KNIME:**

KNIME is well-suited for enterprises looking for a tool that's easy to understand and has a low cost. It's important you have taken your time to determining how is your data acquisition and analytical model, so you can conclude which exact module of KNIME do you need to use. It's always a good idea to read the description of the modules until you find the one that's most suited for your needs.

**What problems is KNIME solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use KNIME Analytics in daily basis to do dataset related tasks. It is used in the IT department, specifically by the DevOps division of the company.

KNIME Analytics is a powerful tool for building analytical workflows. It provides many options for text parsing, especially CoreNLP and OpenNLP. Also, KNIME Analytics allows integration with open source software, such as R, Phyton and Spark. The software is free but you may purchase a server license to have a process run automatically with large amounts of data from many sources. There are built in tools for many types of supervised and unsupervised machine learning.

**What do you dislike about KNIME?**

KNIME Analytics is a very complex tool, so it has a steep learning curve. Another thing I don’t like about it is that it tends to use a lot of memory of your computer, which affects the general performance of the machine. KNIME Analytics is primary drag and drop and requires little to no coding.

**Recommendations to others considering KNIME:**

The tool is very intuitive with a lot of examples to learn. I would recommend it for members of the IT department with some deep software knowledge. You and your team must master R/Phyton in order to implement this solution effectively.

**What problems is KNIME solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The use of this platform is for NLP related tasks. We were able to build a reproducible workflow for analyzing our data and creating actionable insights by just using KNIME Analytics. KNIME Analytics is very useful to analyze large data quantities with advanced algorithms. Also, you are able to code without programming because can use block modules that do a specific tasks. It comes with several extensions that make text processing an easy process, something that’s a headache in other similar platforms, and with extensions to integrate other tools, like R, into the workflows. Use and integrate with cloud and big data environments.

**What do you dislike about KNIME?**

You actually need more help than provided by block description if you want to do complex data analysis work. The user of KNIME Analytics needs to have a deep knowledge about R/Phyton in order to get the best out of the statistical analysis. If you want to do advanced data analysis and classification, it's mandatory to have engineering knowledge. There are some features that are not intuitive, such as how to use flow variables.

**Recommendations to others considering KNIME:**

Recommended for coders with some deep knowledge of R/Python. Yes, you can get a free RapidMiner license to process up to 50,000 lines of data, but this is not enough for big projects. Also, Consider KNIME Analytics does not replace a regular reporting tool.

**What problems is KNIME solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With KNIME Analytics Platform we have turned manual tasks in easy and fast ones by just pressing a button to run multiple commands. We mainly use it for creating multivariate analysis and finding statistical significance of variables.

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan G. | IT Manager, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2019

**What do you like best about KNIME?**

When we had to go through data sources with tons of data, transforming the raw data for analysis was always the hardest part. With KNIME, this process can be automated, while the data acquisition model can be saved and run repeatedly, which saves a lot of time. It also provides a wide range of options for integration, allowing multiple languages like Python, R or Java and supporting formats like JSON and XML. What I like is that I can process large quantities of data while data cleansing and blending of tables can still be done very easily.

**What do you dislike about KNIME?**

KNIME Documentation is poor, so it’s hard to find serious ans straightforward information out there. If you have any doubt, you may find yourself struggling to find a solution. Also, some tools for script writing and development are not easy to use, so you have to run tests to see how they perform, or some of them don't have enough features.

**Recommendations to others considering KNIME:**

KNIME Analytics Platform is a great software for data ingestion given various formats. I think it would a great fit for medium size or big companies which have to handle with complex data analysis. If you want to use for experimentation in the AI area, this will work very well too.

  ### 34. Powerful & Easy to Use Predictive Analytics / Data Mining

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bob M. | Data Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2017

**What do you like best about KNIME?**

KNIME offers a delightful blend of power and ease-of-use. It uses a workflow (flowchart) interface. It offers you a collection of icons that represent steps in your analysis. You position each icon in a diagram and connect them with arrows that represent the flow of data or models from step to step. Double-clicking on an icon will open a dialog box allowing you to set the parameters of how that step should run.

You can document the workflow by clearly labeling each step, and by color coding entire sections of the diagram. As a result, you can look at another person's analysis and quickly get the big picture of what was done. If a diagram gets too complex, you can select a whole section of it and collapse it into a "metanode" so that one icon then represents all the steps. It's also easy to rerun an analysis on new data by simply changing the node(s) that read in data. Note that KNIME does not have a scripting language, nor does it need one.

I particularly like the company's view of open source software. The full desktop version of KNIME is free and open source, regardless of how much data you have. Its closest competitor price-wise is RapidMiner, which is free only if you have fewer than 10,000 cases. KNIME also offers excellent integration with a wide range of other open source software such as: Python, R, Spark, and even ImageJ for image analysis.

The server version of KNIME has a commercial license, i.e. not free. The company also sells software to let work groups share node libraries. For example, if I develop a new node in, say, R, and email it to everyone, then when I improve it, I'll have to email it again. Everyone using it would have to edit their work flows, but at least that's a free solution. However, if we purchase the collaboration extensions, I would make a change to the shared node, and everyone's work would be updated automatically. I appreciate having so much control over what to spend on a KNIME solution.

**What do you dislike about KNIME?**

For data mining or machine learning tasks, it's quite comprehensive, very similar to what RapidMiner, SAS Enterprise Miner, or SPSS Modeler can do. However, compared to a full statistics package such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Stata, it's lacking quite a few statistical methods.

You would have to lean on R or Python if you need statistical analysis rather than data mining. Each new version of KNIME adds more statistics, but it looks like it will be quite a while before they can offer full statistical capabilities. Unfortunately, no one tool offers comprehensive data mining, statistical modeling, and ease-of-use. In the ratings section, I'm giving it full marks as a data mining / machine learning tool.

**Recommendations to others considering KNIME:**

Make sure it has all the methods of analysis you need. If you're into data mining or machine learning, it's probably sufficient. If you're looking for advanced stat methods such as mixed effects linear models, you'll need to run that through an R node.

**What problems is KNIME solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You can use KNIME to solve most any data mining or machine learning problem.
