The ability to manage workflow, engagements and communications in a 60 person firm with thousands of work items is critical to our ability to function. We not only function, but we are able to do more with less and improve our overall communications both internally and externally. From managing the inflow of emails to completing work and everything in between is accomplished using KARBON. We would be lost without it. KARBON is a comprehensive system with its own terminology and nuances. It takes a while to get comfortable with it, therefore, implementation is challenging. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ability to see all information relating to clients and their work so that the communications are saved appropriately and search makes it easy to find specific topics. The ability bulk create work based on specific criteria is a great tool for a migrating firm. The workflow is a beast to be tamed as people who are not used to proper workflow methods can sometimes cause holes to appear in the flow. The integrations with Xero XPM and Xero Blue make a single source of truth for contacts. The performance of the product is good not excellent. The pricing is reasonable for what you get. One area that could be improved is the email functionality. When sending emails, there currently isn’t a placeholder that automatically inserts the client’s name into the greeting or body of the message. Adding a client-name placeholder (for example, "Dear {{Client Name}}") would make communication more efficient by reducing manual edits and would also help personalize emails, especially when sending a large volume of client communications. I find Karbon incredibly useful for managing all our customer communication and workflows in one place, which keeps our work environment cohesive whether we're in the office or remote. I really like using the triage as my inbox since it makes processing emails so easy. Sharing information widely and having it easily referenced at a later date is a big plus. The workflows and automation features are fantastic for moving tasks between team members efficiently. Karbon's integration with tools like Vinyl is a major benefit, where meeting summaries automatically sync to client timelines. The system evolves quickly with valuable improvements based on user feedback. Working with the Karbon team is enjoyable; they're really easy to collaborate with and great at helping with setup and changes. What I like best about Karbon is that it brings our firm’s workflow, client communications, deadlines, and team responsibilities into one centralized system. It gives us clear visibility into the status of every engagement, helps prevent tasks from being overlooked, and makes it much easier for the team to collaborate and stay accountable. There is not much I dislike about Karbon. The main limitation is that AI is not yet fully built into the platform, although those features are expected very soon. I also previously found that the engagement letter section did not allow us to create and work from a reusable template. Consistency of the processes. Forces me to think about a task in sequential steps and record them. Then, later as I use the template, when I find areas of improvement by either adding or deleting steps, I do so on an ongoing basis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The on-boarding was not the smoothest. It took me almost 6 months before I finally understood how to efficiently build a workable template. I guess that's part of the process.

Then, the lack of a scheduling module. When I schedule tax returns for work at a later date, the scheduled work disappears from view. This makes is very difficult to know what's the load ahead and it also makes it almost impossible to move a project from one time slot to another. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Karbon has been a game-changer for our firm — having client emails, tasks, and deadlines all in one shared workspace means nothing slips through the cracks and the whole team stays aligned. The main drawbacks are the learning curve during onboarding — it takes time to get the whole team fully up to speed — and the cost, which can feel steep for smaller firms. There isn’t anything specific that I dislike about the software. I’ve been using it for almost 10 years now, and I know I’m not taking full advantage of everything it offers, but it still makes my work life so much better by helping me stay on top of assignments and tasks. I love that Karbon lets us keep everything in one place. The way everything flows together makes it much easier to stay organized, especially when work items and correspondence are connected and easy to track in the same spot. I think the document sorting has some downfalls. It would be nice to be able to have folders that could be named where you can sort documents out instead of just by work item. A fully built out suite of products and tools that support not only internal behind the scene workflows but also pushing deliverables out and client checklists. Integrates with our outside billing system seamlessly. With their Aider acquisition, AI support with month end close has resulted in huge time savings and a consistent standard applied across all of our firms clients. For our tax workflows their deep integration with Stanford has simplified and streamlined tax organizer and document collection that while not only saving time for the firm creates a seamless flow for our clients.
