I like best that it's a one-time fee rather than a subscription; what you see is what you get. The software also comes with a decent trial period to really let you get a feel for it prior to purchasing, which is great. I've used that for aspiring transcriptionists to make sure they have a knack for typing prior to hiring, and it's made a big difference. It's a fairly intuitive software that's easy to learn and use, yet it has the capability to be customized for optimization. It works well with a foot pedal and gives control over playback speed. There are several help resources online available to help if you have questions or issues. Another upside is that you can also set up hotkeys and customize controls to enable you to be more productive while typing, resulting in faster turnaround times. It's not a huge downside, but it would be nice if there were simple audio enhancing features built into Express Scribe. Currently, if I have a poor quality audio file, I have to manipulate it in a different software prior to loading it into Express Scribe. This aspect is least helpful because I have to spend time going to an outside application and editing the audio. Having very simple enhancing options would save me a few steps and would allow my transcriptionists to be a bit more self-reliant with those types of issues, as currently I'm the only person who can enhance audio files. I would also like to see both the elapsed and remaining times, not just one or the other; this would be an easy update that would allow me to see exactly where I am in the file and set goals for myself around productivity. - Very little time is allowed for the premium trial option. The software stops working like after a day, promoting you to buy the premium version if you wan to continue using it.
- Express scribe lacks an automatic auto-correct feature for correcting spelling mistakes. The work around on this is that the software easily integrates with Microsoft Word. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Compared to other transcription software that I use, Express Scribe's audio is sub-par. Even with the manipulation features, other software beats the pants off Express Scribe. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The video can be played in background and you can listen to the video and transcribe it into any software unlike vlc player or any other video player Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Video quality reduces and video is compressed so sound quality also reduces so cannot be used as a typical video player but can just be used to transcribe it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I really like the program's hotkey controls that enable the user to back up the recording by increments that the user can select. This is extremely useful for reviewing recorded segments that are difficult to understand.
Express Scribe supports all but the most obscure audio formats - a fact that is exceedingly helpful when dealing with student assignments that have been recorded on a wide range of mobile phones and mp3 devices.
Users can use a hot-key to automatically insert time stamps throughout the transcript, or manually insert timestamps at key points though the document. The use of timestamps allows users to correlate the audio track with the exact position on the written transcript. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Express Scribe is not available for Linux, I have to user a WINE Emulator. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One of the things that have always characterized the whole package of NCH software is the simplicity of its interfaces, in the case of Express Scribe, accounts with a wonderful tool that will make your work much easier. You can reduce your level of work by relying on the benefits it offers. You should not have a headache because of the consumption of your computer resources because it has a very interesting balance that you will not notice having several applications running at the same time. Another important detail for an editor, is compatibility, has a range of formats that will allow you to work without problems. I also like the coupling that makes analogous and digital recorders, an absolute genius. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
They have all the components to be one of the most used options on the market, I can not describe any of its qualities negatively because it has worked perfectly to date, perhaps in the near future will incorporate an improvement in its interface, which works very well, just that could be a little more stylized, none of that detracts from its great capabilities to make work easier. Express Scribe is a software that is often used in the medical field, or the legal field to transcribe for professionals. The software allows for, per say a doctor, to speak into the system and the software transcribes what is being said onto the computer. This allows for improved patient to doctor interaction with the minimal errors in the transcribing aspect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
For the majority of the time that Express Scribe software is utilized, there are minimal spelling and typing errors. However, there have been a few times where a nurse or medical professional has talked at a very fast pace and the Express Scribe will miss a word in a sentence. Besides the few occasions that takes place, there are no negatives to Express Scribe. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I do not like that Express Scribe is not available for Linux. In addition, if you reinstall your operating system, you may encounter problems to reactivate Express Scribe. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that it is a simple to use software that has all pieces that i need to successfully transcribe interviews. It allows you to use a pedal to change speeds, making it even easier to use. Definitely a good program! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is very little i dislike about this program. I did wish there was a free version that I could use with limited functions, since I do not use it often enough to purchase it. But since it is a quality program it makes sense that it costs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
