It Syncs seamlessly with Asana with its extension. Data can be easily exported through APIs for further analytics. It doesn't have a native app for Android or iOS. The inbuilt default reports are not very insightful. Creating reports can be a bit cumbersome. **What problems is Everhour solving and how is that benefiting you?** Everhour has been a great tool to log hours across teams and projects. It integrates very nicely with Asana and makes managing projects very easy. The integrations with billing and accounting software reduce admin overhead considerably. The pièce de ré·sis·tance is EverHour's customer service. I desperately needed an improvement in the template engine for invoices. I asked customer support for the enhancement. Support said they would discuss the request with engineering. Engineering accepted the suggestion and added it to their road map. About 2 months later, support contacted me to inform me the feature was in production and invited me to try it. The feature worked perfectly. I am a TINY customer and EverHour treated me like their biggest. I feel like my problems are their problems, and no one could ask for more in a vendor. **What do you dislike about Everhour?** I wish it could import timesheets directly from Jira's native time tracking. Currently, time tracking in Jira requires a browser plugin for each person recording their time. **Recommendations to others considering Everhour:** No software is perfect. This applies to EverHour. More automatic email reminders or options to have these can be added to remind users to fill in their timesheets. **Recommendations to others considering Everhour:** If you are not very price-sensitive, given the pricing per user and looking for a long-term time tracking solution, this is the ideal product. I have worked with different time tracking solutions and have been part of a development team to build one. I compare that with people's scheduling to help determine employees' capacity; hone our approach to staffing; and even price out new engagements based on trends in how employees spend their time on existing projects. And it’s not just because it’s more affordable than Harvest. Here’s why: - With Harvest you have to click the icon in the task to start the time, then you have to set the project and task you want to track time for. That’s 3 additional clicks every time you want to track your time. 🥵 - With Everhour you just click your button to start your time. The product team at Everhour really get UX here—their integration automatically pulls in all relevant data to your task including task name, section level, project, team, tags, literally everything available via the API! 🤩 Imagine how useful having all that rich data can be if you want to report on things! No more settling for Asana’s weak and fluffy dashboard reports. With Everhour’s rich data you can export it into a data source to analyze or visualize in BI tools like DataStudio or Tableau. 🚀 **What do you dislike about Everhour?** The UX for Retainer-Based Firms ————— I love Everhour. If I could change anything, it would be adding more thought into the experience retainer-based users have. Right now it’s geared toward people who bill hourly or by the project. While there are options to make it work for retainer-based agencies/firms, it lacks in a few areas. For example, when viewing your reports, there’s a way to set the budget (perhaps the amount you’ve collected from the client or whatever you want to hit your margins), however, there’s no way to indicate that the amount has already been billed and that time tracked going forward is being tracked against that retainer. Again, you can sort of make it work if you just flip the way you think about it in your mind but it would be nice to have an option that caters better to retainer-based companies. The same applies for value-based pricing models. The UX for Expense Tracking ———— You can add expenses currently but it could be more fleshed out. Being able to add expenses at the project level would be nice; even better would be the ability to add expenses in Asana directly. Which you could sort of do if you make it a task—but that’s not very clean and susceptible to data loss since Asana, in their infinite wisdom, allows anyone to delete a task from a project. I’m not trying to get Everhour to become QuickBooks here...we don’t need that. Just something a bit more robust in the future would be nice. UX During Budget Set Up in Asana ———— I love the UX in Asana in general. It’s the best in market. When setting up a budget at the project level in Asana it gives you two options: 1. 💸 budget by project fees or 2. ⌛️ budget by project hours We charge clients based on a retainer. We also have some external expenses that we track against our budget total via Everhour. As such, for us, it makes the most sense to budget by project fees rather than hours—otherwise we’d have to calculate out the projected difference with our external expenses (which are really COGS) each month and our budget to accurately budget by time. What would be nice, however, is the ability to track by project fees but have it also show you the equivalent amount of time available in hours (based on a blended hourly rate) in the UI of Asana when you hover over the project. One More Option for Asana & Estimates ———— One great thing about Everhour is their ability to automatically set and log your estimated time for a task if you have a custom field in Asana named “Estimate.” That saves a ton of time and helps keep data accurate. The only thing I’d like to see enhanced here is the behavior it has with the list interface. When the Estimate custom field in Asana is NOT displayed in the list view, Everhour adds a handy little indicator to the task that shows you both the current time tracked and the estimate. This is quite useful and I like it. However, if you make the Estimate custom field I Asana visible, Everhour removes the estimate indicator from the UI next to the task name and leaves only the current time tracked displayed. This may due to a limitation in how they can render the data when injecting into the browser, but it would be nice if that functionality remained. It’s more helpful to see budget vs actual right next to one another. Again, this is a small matter—all in all, Everhour is still leaps and bounds ahead of tots direct competitors in my opinion. **Recommendations to others considering Everhour:** Take time to get reports set up in advance and make sure you understand how Everhour will integrate with your tools if you go that route. For example, if you’re an Asana user, the project should align with the client level in order to track time accurately in Everhour. If you use a project with multiple clients housed inside of it, you’ll need to set up individual projects in Asana for each client and multihome all of your tasks between each project. You would then bind the individual client projects in Asana with Everhour—enabling you to still track time for that task no matter where it lives and it still aggregating back to the appropriate project. Sounds convoluted. I know. Thank Asana for that. It’s not Everhour’s fault. **What problems is Everhour solving and how is that benefiting you?** Use case is the need to plan and budget resources for projects and understand utilization across the team. The browser add-on is also helpful! **What do you dislike about Everhour?** While custom reporting is great, it would be even better to create custom fields within Everhour (that don't already exist in JIRA). **What problems is Everhour solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before using Everhour, we had no idea how much time and associated cost our employees were spending on customers, and we were unable to calculate our profit margin. And all the integration with the Asana and Chrome. You can click right on task, you can click in task detail. You can edit description if you want. You can add time back. All this with the click of the button. In Google Chrome extensions you can switch to different tasks or stop currently running if you go for lunch. In the report, you have all the options you wish to. You see detailed Logged about the login of the time. Great. You have a standard timesheet overview in Asana and you can quickly fix the time hours if you need to. **What do you dislike about Everhour?** Hm. I do not know. Maybe that the timer will not stop automatically on task completion. (at least as far as I remember) And showing completed tasks in the list of tasks. I think one of the downsides I can think of is some of the timesheets and tasks don't report as well so if I ask them to start the general timer I can't see that in the report, I have to go to the timesheet to see what general time they logged. **What problems is Everhour solving and how is that benefiting you?** Insight into my project management and being able to quote and bill on projects more accurately. While there are other applications out there that do this, they generally required expensive implementations to handle complex project billing structures, or they were inexpensive and simply couldn't do it. By pairing Everhour with a project management system and using some simple metadata, we can accurately track our time for necessary business reports and project management, while allowing our team to use their project management application in a way that is most effective for them.
