ESXi

4.4
(17)

VMware ESXi is a purpose-built bare-metal hypervisor that installs directly onto a physical server. With direct access to and control of underlying resources, ESXi is more efficient than hosted architectures and can effectively partition hardware to increase consolidation ratios and cut costs for our customers.

"VMWare ESXi-Baremetal hypervisor"

What do you like best?

VMWare ESXi is one of the best server virtualization product in the market competing with Microsoft hyper-v and Citrix hypervisor. The best part of ESXi is the simplicity it provides for administrators in the form of vsphere web client or vsphere client for versions before 6.5

What do you dislike?

VMware esxi licenses are pretty costly and may not be suitable for small enterprise which are not ready to spend a lot on IT infrastructure.

Recommendations to others considering the product

setting up your datacenter is simple and faster when using esxi to virtualize your server/desktop resources and a very secured, light weight in nature.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

VMware ESXi provides a lot of features such as storage v motion, vm migration, High availability, update manager..etc. It helps you virtualize the server/desktop infrastructure and make the enterprise resources available to users across the globe with out setting up infrastructure locally at every site an enterprise holds instead they can be virtualized in a datacenter located remotely and reduces the time and effort of local IT.

It is more secured when compared to Windows and a market leader in the server virtualization space.

"ESXI is the best for virtual machine"

What do you like best?

ESXI is the best for virtual machine. Is easy to use and capable of making many virtual machine at once. I started to use ESXi as a way to build, control, configure, and push-out virtual machines (servers) throughout my company. I am now able to set out a selection of systems to individuals to use and once done and I have the data and work completed from an employee I can easily keep data and delete that used VM which I can relaunch at anytime from anywhere. I use these VMs so that I don't have to worry about any viruses and malware getting back into my main server. ESXi also works great with VCenter and setting up virtual networks.

- IT admin has complete control over these VMs through ESXi as well as being able to release a new VM if the prior VM system has any issue, this saves hundreds of hours for our admins.

-Using ESXi together with VCenter is a great platform for maintaining the VMs, virtual networks, building datacenters, and tracking what is going on with our VMs.

- ESXi that I had set up as a lab to learn from and to teach others off of saved our entire network from a serious hack out of China. When I set up this ESXi as a learning platform I set it in a way that it was the main point of our network (by accident) this accident stopped a brute force attack that was done through a 3 day weekend with over thousands of attempts to hack into. They only got into a BS VM that was set for learning. This saved us a lot of money and embarrassment.

What do you dislike?

Better way of teaching, make ESXI easier to learn to use

Configuration need to be a bit easier to understand

VMware needs to do something about the learning costs

Recommendations to others considering the product

I have worked with several other virtual machine platforms such as Microsoft Hyper-V and Oracle VM VirtualBox and find not only the ESXi is a better platform for us, ESXi also seems to be easier once you have learned the basics.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Great return in savings on physical systems

Great savings not having to buy so many physical machines, when you can just build new VM systems at no cost and a few minutes

Turning P2V had really helped out again saving money not having to replace old or failed systems

What Server Virtualization solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"the base operating system to virtualize."

What do you like best?

esxi is the base operating system of vmware to virtualize, I like it because it takes control of all the resources of my computer and presents them as a single pool of resources, also allows me to manage my host, to provide different services in a way centralized and dynamic.

What do you dislike?

in its beginning it is free although it gives you a 30 day test, you can activate an indefinite license, but only a certain number of cpus, since if you use more than 2 or 3 cpus you have to acquire a paid license.

Recommendations to others considering the product

to create test environments and to put them into production is great is the best virtualization tool that exists.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

in our infrastructure we use it to virtualize almost all servers, it is worth noting that it allows us to create data storage taking the disk space that these servers have.

"VMWARE ESXi - best virtual machine for Linux servers"

What do you like best?

VMWARE ESXi offers a complete and easy to use interface to manage all your virtual servers, providing all the needed management functions and reports. It also provides an effective way to transfer the virtual machines on other servers, if needed.

What do you dislike?

It requires a certain level of expertise. The management panel is well organized and it is mostly self explanatory.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use WMARE ESXi if you need to manage your virtual servers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hosting virtual machines for my customers. You can have different operating systems on each virtual machine, if needed.

"Mixed Feelings"

What do you like best?

It's been around forever, meaning support is easy to find and everyone in the industry is at least familiar with it. Fairly simple install, and very stable overall. VMWare is a huge, reputable company, so you know it's not going anywhere.

What do you dislike?

Performance seems to be on the lower side, when compared to Hyper-V. The GUI to manage things (VSphere) is lacking, when compared to Hyper-V. Definitely not my favorite. We have since switched basically everything over to Hyper-V. I feel more secure and safe having everything on Microsoft's platform, as well as liking the interface MUCH more.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try both Hyper-V and ESXI before committing to either product.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Consolidated smaller server OSes/boxes into one, more powerful, server.

"Nothing beats esxi in virtualization "

What do you like best?

User friendly environment

I am still surprised with one fact that a code of approximately 400 mb is what manages all the load (vms)on one server.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing which I dislike about Esxi. I was in awe with the product right from the minute I heard about what it can do which pushed to learn and work on it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

There many bussiness problems which are solved due to esxi

I would say the cloud burst has started with invention/development of esxi

To name a few of bussiness problems solved/reduced due to esxi are full utilization of the server hardware, less number of servers in use due to which low space utilization, low power and many more

"Stable, reliable, efficient hypervisor"

What do you like best?

Well, for starters, it's free. Using it as a basic hypervisor with none of the enterprise bells and whistles that come with vSphere is completely free. I've been using it at home for years, and have also used VMWare products professionally for many years. Stable, reliable, very small footprint. It's also much easier to monitor resources than on Hyper-V.

What do you dislike?

There's not really anything to dislike as long as you're aware of what the licensing limitations are.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've only used ESXi without vSphere in a home server or test/lab environment. It's more efficient and easy to monitor resources than Hyper-V.
