## DesktopServer Reviews
  ### 1. Why DesktopServer Stands Out for Local Development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Venkat H. | RPA Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2026

**What do you like best about DesktopServer?**

What I like most about DesktopServer is how easy it makes local WordPress development. I can get a site up and running quickly without dealing with complicated configuration. It also feels very developer-friendly, with straightforward site cloning and deployment features that speed up testing and iteration. Overall, it offers a lightweight, efficient environment for building, testing, and managing WordPress projects.

**What do you dislike about DesktopServer?**

It offers limited features compared with more modern local development tools like Local WP or Docker-based setups. Performance can also feel slow, especially when you’re working with larger WordPress sites or running multiple instances at once. On top of that, it doesn’t seem to be updated as actively, which could lead to compatibility issues with newer WordPress versions or certain plugins.

**What problems is DesktopServer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DesktopServer solves the problem of setting up local WordPress environments quickly, without requiring complex server configuration. For me, it saves time, streamlines my development workflow, and makes testing and deployment more efficient. Overall, it improves my productivity thanks to its straightforward, easy-to-use setup.

  ### 2. It brings website creation & porting incredibly easy!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about DesktopServer?**

It's been about 4 years since we completely overhauled our company's website. The last time I did it, I had to park the website in an unused subdirectory while I created the website. I then had to spend an evening with IT to port the completed website over to the new location, then spend several hours making sure everything worked at its permanent location.

With just a few clicks, I had a server running on my local laptop. I could work all I wanted, have colleagues log into the website running on my laptop and make changes, provide feedback, etc.. When everything was perfect, I just installed Serverpress's Wordpress plugin, pressed another button, and that was it. It ported over the first time, effortlessly. The site "just worked" when it was at the permanent location. I had zero downtime, lost zero customers, and the whole thing was a dream come true.

**What do you dislike about DesktopServer?**

Many of the programs included with the software were the "free" versions of them. You will often run up against the limits of the free versions. It's still 100% usable, however. Just annoying every now and then.

**What problems is DesktopServer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It made website collaboration and creation an absolute dream. It reduced workload significantly by making the porting process so simple and quick!

  ### 3. Useful Development tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about DesktopServer?**

Makes it easy and convenient to work on websites on local machine

**What do you dislike about DesktopServer?**

Only has one php version, currently 7.1. Was on 5.5 for a long time, too, so a little slow to use the latest php.

**Recommendations to others considering DesktopServer:**

Makes it easy to create a local website server environment. You can do it yourself with all the open source tools available, but not worth my time to figure it all out when Desktopserver makes it easy. And they have good documentation and tech support ready to help when something goes wrong.

**What problems is DesktopServer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't need to create a development server or even need to be online to work on websites. Also makes it easy to check updates before pushing live, and then quickly deploy it to the live server, almost like a staging site.
