I recorded my voice and cleaned it up nearly two years ago. I upload this file and about 5 hours later, I had a quality AI voice. Many people are amazed how well the voice sounds. Now I record the video portion separately from the audio portion. On dual screen, video editor on one, Descript on the other, I type the description of the video action. Export the sound files to the video editor. Arrange the sound files and edit the video files to match sound file. Now, I have a quality "How To" videos with minimum effort. I am currently editing videos now. I took time to write this review because Descript is deserving of my attention for what it has done for my video production process. **What do you dislike about Descript?** Because english is a tough language to sound out, I always have to make slight adjustments to the text to get the sound I want. I have learn this during test editing. **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Not having to record and re-record audio and video files. Video files do not have to be perfect. I just record video, ensuring I have every possible scene I need. Descript voices do the rest. ### 2. I am absolutely obsessed with Descript! Easy to transcribe massive amounts of interviews and put together an amzing show. **What do you dislike about Descript?** The more material you use, performance can begin to suffer. **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our shows typically have over 30 hours of interviews with 15-20 people in our cast. We can transcribe and pull tape very quickly. We can create multiple versions of each episode easily. Everyone from associate producers, writers, hosts and executive producers can jump into the project and contribute meaningfully. This allows more time to be spend on the creative style and perfecting the narrative as opposed to spending time tracking down tape. Once our editing and writing is complete it easily transfers into Pro Tools to allow top of the line work from experienced composers, sound designers and mixers. This also saves time since tape does not have to be repulled or relinked. Descript uses the raw footage from the original recordings and the post production has easy access to all the tape to pull out heads and cut tails non-destructively. ### 4. It's a one-stop shop. I know I don't yet take full advantage of everything that it can do, but it definitely simplifies my process for recording. And the use of AI within it just keeps making it better. I also can't say enough good things abot their customer service. An updated version had made my camera stop working anytime I wanted to record, and they worked directly with me for weeks to navigate a solution. I never felt like I didn't know where they were in the process and felt seen and heard with the frustration. I let it go on before reaching out for months before I actually got so fed up with it that I reached out. My advice to anyone with an issue, reach out... they genuinely wanted to find a solution. **What do you dislike about Descript?** It's complex. It's so easy to use that I use it for every single video and podcast project I have. Some of its most notable features are: removing filler words, transcribing it, remove retakes, edit for clarity, improve the sounds to studio quality, editing the video as if you're editing a word document, digitizing my voice so that if I said something incorectly I can just type the correction and it would read it using my voice, add captions, progress bar and waveforms, and adding free stock videos, images, audio. And the best thing? They keep on improving and adding new features at a rapid pace. **What do you dislike about Descript?** I think the video editing capabilities can be improved a little bit so that it can be a bit more precise in cutting different segments. It also ruins the format of the text which is quite tedious to work on. You can get something really good done in a matter of minutes! Edit audio and video like you're in a Word document, let the new "Underlord" AI even streamline that process by pre-editing stuff which you just have to double check, let the software remove filler words and shorten word gaps (for that faster pace feeling) and then even get a regular phone-microphone recording become truly great with Studio Sound. I've been publishing about 300 podcast episodes at this point, and I'd never look at anything else than Descript to put those together. There's a tiny little bit of a learning curve to get the specific controls of the App (like, press "c" to correct the transcript, or place a "/" to start a new scene and hence change a camera angle), but with the addition of Underlord, a lot of this gets easier to "delegate". **What do you dislike about Descript?** Not that I dislike it, but every great piece of software has its limitations as well. Sometimes, in the early stages of digesting my content, my Macbook M1 feels like it will take off to another planet, as it's the only time of the day when I hear the fans. You also have to look carefully at what Descript stores locally, as it gobbles your hard disk pretty fast if you let it do so. Finally, for super high-end multi-cam projects, I'd still go to Final Cut to do the great look and feel, and as Descript doesn't export in Multicam XML, I can't really use it as a pre-editor in that specific use case. (I'd still use it to generate the transcript, the chapters and the show notes, though!) **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Descript saves time. Like, big time! It allows me to put out a podcast episode every week for 200+ weeks in a row, something that would not be possible with 3 kids and a full-time job with any other software.
