It allowed us to transcribe the entire episode by speaker and edit. That basic function is not really effective anymore, however. **What do you dislike about Descript?** How significantly it has gone downhill in about a year of use. EVBRY single time I log in to use it, there is "a new version of descript" and it consistently gets less effective, harder to navigate, and slower. The primary need I had for this tool was transcription and removing filler words but it's not even properly transcribing those words anymore, nor identifying the correct speakers. Downloads take hours (on 2GB hardwired fiber so not the internet) when they should take minutes. Publishing functions are not granular enough and lack real control. They also outright lied about their new pricing (which is published on their site) when I tried to cancel, effectively trying to scare me into staying. This had the opposite impact. **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Initially, it was helping us transcribe our podcast, remove filler words, and edit video. For the work that I do (producing video lectures for online courses) this is essential and I have not found any other app like this. **What do you dislike about Descript?** Transcription has deteriorated. It used to be better and more accurate. Also, syncing the script to the audio is so finnicky. Being able to sync a transcript to audio is so important and is one of the reasons why I use Descript, but it is so frustrating at times because the app very often cannot accurately detect where the text should go, ESPECIALLY if there are multiple takes (which there always are as we record live in-studio). **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Descript helps me create engaging video lectures and edit them easily. Before, I was using Adobe Preiere Pro, but given the dense nature of graduate-level videu lectures, editing text as a proxy for editing audio/video content is a game-changer. The transcription used to be excellent but it is not as important to me as it used to be (there are now lots of AI transcription services which do a better job than Descript does, it seems that Descript's transcription quality has deteriorated, it used to be the best). However, the fact that I can SYNC A TRANSCRIPT TO VIDEO/AUDIO is an amazing feature that I have not seen elsewhere and which I use constantly. HOWEVER, it is so rife with inaccuracies and there is so much room for improvement here (for example, if I have multiple takes, the transcript should sync to the LATER take by default, or perhaps it should give me the option to choose which take it should sync to as it's doing it). ### 13. Now when interviewing folks for my YouTube channel, I don't worry about umms or stumbles since editing those out to make me and my guest look polished takes seconds. Nothing else I've used comes close to Descript in the pure ease and simplicity of editing video. The program automatically creates a transcript when you upload your video, and ties the transcript to the video. So if you delete a word in the transcript, it will edit out that part of the video automatically. But you can also just change a word, or a string of words, to correct it, and it still does a pretty good job of syncing the video to the correction. It's super slick and well-done. It really feels like the creators do video editing themselves and created the product they would want for their editing needs. For places where some super fine-point editing is required, that's possible, too, using a more traditional timeline selection tool at the bottom of the screen. It also has great features for transitions, effects, audio, captions, green screen, layering elements in the video, etc., as well as some beta AI features that aren't quite there yet in my experience (e.g. studio sound, automatic eye contact) but I'm excited to see what improvements come in the coming months. I'm super impressed, and I will definitely continue using this going forward **What do you dislike about Descript?** The easy text-to-video editing could just use a few more automations. For example, there is a feature to automatically remove filler words like "um" and "uh," but that cuts out the video part, too, as if you were deleting a word from the transcript. That's not a bad thing by any means, but for interviews or other natural, conversational videos sometimes I want to just edit out the filler word from the transcript/captions instead of editing it out of the audio/video as well. So I'd like the option to have that automated feature do that. That feels kind of nit-picky, and overall this is a really excellent software that has sped up my editing A LOT. **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Traditional video editing is tedious and time-consuming. Descript makes it much easier and saves a lot of time by allowing me to simply edit the automatic transcription that Descript creates, and it edits the video accordingly. ### 30. No longer worrying about marking up waveforms or keeping track of clips based on visual alone opens up new possibilities for telling stories in audio and video. **What do you dislike about Descript?** The interface is still a bit kludgy and has changed quite a bit with the newest release. It takes a lot of hands on use to get used to things and then relearn them *again* is a bit rough. But this comes with short experience and is well worth the learning curve. **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Descript has allowed me to do quick edits of corporate videos using client supplied content; and also to take my own interviews on podcasts and turn those into short form social highlights. ### 32. I am shocked at how easy and fun this program is. I never would have thought that using text to edit would have been so useful, but for podcasts it sure is! Plus I still have access to my wave formatting to keep an eye on all the details that I am used to working with. The project that I'm currently working on doesn't require crazy special effects or editing, so this program is such a timesaver. **What do you dislike about Descript?** I wish the audio editing was bit more robust. I love that I can use AI to pinpoint filler words and shortening word gaps. That saves a ton of time. However, it would be great if there were an ability to ad volume key frames faster (possibly with a key stroke). It would be amazing if there was a way to take a specific section of dialogue and eaisly mute that section. For bleeping curse words or overlapping dialogue. I also wish that getting into the audio levels was a bit eaiser. Having to go into the layers section can get annoying when I'm changing so many audio clips. **What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lack of time is the the thing that Descript helps me solve. I keep hearing about how AI will help businesses with administrative tasks. Underlord does the same thing for editing! Cutting out filler words or shortening word gaps can be such a slog. But underloard does the finding of me and all I have to do is decided what I want to keep or to skip. I just hope Underlord can learn how to detect laughing and not think that needs to be deleted. I'm sure Underlord will figure it out in due time. It's already pretty damn impressive. ### 33.
