This review was written entirely without invitation or incentive from G2, a seller, or an affiliate. **Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2026 **What do you like best about Creaform Engineering?** The scanning hardware itself is genuinely excellent — fast, accurate, and reliable when everything is working as intended. As a licensed PE who's run this equipment for years, I have no complaints about raw scanning performance or capture speed. **What do you dislike about Creaform Engineering?** Software reliability has gotten worse, not better, across successive OS releases. Network licenses frequently don't release after a crash, forcing reliance on an over-$1,000 physical dongle as a workaround. Scan-to-CAD Pro has persistent SolidWorks export failures and menu-scroll interface bugs that have persisted since OS1. Most concerning: Creaform retroactively split Scan-to-CAD into "Basic" and "Pro" tiers years after I'd already purchased the single, undivided product, and reclassified my existing purchase into the lower tier — despite my having paid maintenance on it continuously the entire time. Separately, on the hardware side: Creaform announced a wireless-capable successor to my $77,420 MAX Elite scanner six days after I completed required training on it, and has only offered a 60% trade-in credit — a roughly $32,000 loss on equipment that's now confirmed discontinued. **Recommendations to others considering Creaform Engineering:** Get any statement about product roadmap, upcoming releases, or licensing terms in writing before you buy — not verbally. Budget for a physical license dongle as a real, recurring cost if network licensing proves unreliable. If you work primarily inside SolidWorks, look at QuickSurface as a lower-cost, more stable alternative to Scan-to-CAD Pro before committing. **What problems is Creaform Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?** Point cloud capture and reverse engineering for parts with no existing CAD data. The hardware genuinely solves this well. It favors companies of all sizes since the price and rates charged are very friendly. It is also flexible and scalable hence can be adjusted to meet the needs of customers.
