One area that could be improved in Commvault Cloud is the user interface, as some features and settings can take time to understand, especially for new users. I like the compatibility and ease of management of Commvault Cloud. It has extensive coverage and support for cloud applications and infrastructure, and it allows me to migrate virtual machines between on-premises and the cloud, as well as easily move Oracle databases from one site to another. I don't need more products and can implement cybersecurity themes using the same infrastructure and control panel I already use. I also value the security of AirGap Protect. I like Commvault Cloud’s reliability and ease of management. It provides consistent backup and recovery, and I can monitor backup health, review reports, manage policies, and perform recovery operations from one centralized interface. Our usage of Commvault Cloud—specifically version 11.42.80—has increased; previously, we handled almost everything via the Java console, but since this update, we perform many tasks directly within Commvault Cloud. Key advantages include daily backup reporting—which helps us meet our client's requirement for weekly reports—and the ability to clearly see what succeeded and what didn't. Within these reports, we utilize the "Calendar Job Summary" to view daily job execution by system; this allows us to identify failures without impacting business operations or onboarding processes, while also simplifying support and dashboard management. They release a lot of patches that fail to pass validation, which ends up impacting operations; although they are simple to install, something unexpected always comes up, forcing us to open a support case. In the version we use, we identified a bug involving AIX 7.2 and Oracle RAC. Another thing we dislike is that support is very disconnected—there is no one to coordinate or link the various issues together; they view things in silos, and we aren't entirely happy with that approach. I appreciate that Commvault Cloud is easy to administer and use, and fast. It allows me to make reduced-size backups and then optimize these sizes to reduce cloud costs. I also appreciate the integrated aggregation and reduction technologies: object-type backups can reuse already recorded blocks, which reduces future backups, multiple backups, and space used. I can use different storage levels at different prices, create policies tailored to specific needs, and keep backups for over 10 years. I have no particular complaints about Commvault Cloud. However, I would like it to continue improving native support for storage arrays, rather than working at the VM level, as well as the speed of backups without hindering the use of VMs and the applications they host. Transitioning to Plans really helped re-evaluating all workloads and their needs so in the end we now have a structured and clear overview of our backups and an easy onboarding processs for new clients without the need to dig into configuration details.

The CommandCenter also really helped our users having a clearer and more focused overview of their backups and important settings without getting distracted by unimportant menus they don't need.

I feel like upgraded Commcells existing for various major versions are not considered that strongly in the documentation and overall development.

New deployments and configurations have different defaults than existing Commcells and we are always faced with new issues and optimization tasks which require intensive manual work (e.g. writing suitable API scripts) to adjust certain behaviour or performance characteristics.

The combination of reliability and centralized management provides the most value for our organization. Having a single interface to manage all workloads prevents configuration errors and ensures that our data protection policies are consistent across the entire infrastructure. This is a significant improvement compared to the older console which, even while functional, was somewhat burdensome to use at times.

Features like data immutability and built-in anomaly detection give us full confidence that our data is safe from ransomware and ready for recovery.

While the platform is evolving quickly, feature parity between the new cloud interface and the traditional console still isn’t fully there in some areas. Certain advanced configurations continue to require switching back to the old console, which breaks up the workflow and fragments the overall user experience.

We’d also like deeper visibility into individual backed-up assets and workloads directly from the main dashboard. In our experience, granular tracking of single entities can feel less intuitive than it used to, and it takes extra effort to track down to the details we need.

Finally, the built-in reporting could be stronger. We often need more detailed, ready-to-use compliance and infrastructure status reports without having to manually customize views just to get a clear, accurate picture of our environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Very user friendly UI, easy to integrate with multiple platforms. Performance is not bad. In terms of pricing, I have been using it for almost 15 years and it's not high. Support for Commvault is superb. Never had any issues with them. Now included with AI, I found that Commvault has moved to a higher level enterprise backup solution on the market.
