# Which Salesforce AppExchange apps survive an org upgrade without breaking the customisations already in place?

Every heavily customised org has a list of things nobody touches. Release weekends are when you find out which of your apps are on it. So which Salesforce AppExchange apps survive an org upgrade without breaking the customisations already in place? The architectural difference that usually decides it:

Native on the platform, sharing the same data model and moving with Salesforce releases

Managed package with its own objects, upgraded by the vendor on its own schedule

Connected app that lives outside and syncs through the API, unaffected by org changes but holding its own configuration

Three apps at different points on that line:

Agentforce Revenue Management runs natively on the platform with one data model across quoting, contracts, ordering and billing, so there is no second system to reconcile after a release. Reviewers describe a real learning curve and note that a complex catalog needs a named owner or the quote page drifts.

DealHub AI connects natively to Salesforce and is often brought in as an alternative to configuring CPQ in the org itself. Reviewers point out that its API path needs a separate playbook, which doubles what there is to maintain.

Everstage sits outside the org and reads from it, with commission logic built in a no-code plan designer rather than in Salesforce. That keeps the plan intact through org changes, at the cost of the logic living somewhere your admin does not own.

From what I've seen, it's almost always the customisation around the integration that breaks, not the integration itself, since vendors test their own package against new releases but nobody's testing the specific workflow your team bolted onto it. That tracks with the DealHub point about needing a separate playbook for the API path, since anything living outside the platform's normal upgrade cycle depends entirely on someone remembering it exists. The apps that hold up best tend to be the ones where a named person actually owns the customisation, not just the ones with the cleanest architecture on paper.
