Everything is intuitive, well designed and in one place, which saves us a lot of time as a small team. It’s one of those tools that just works without needing loads of setup. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** Very little! If I had to pick something, it would be that some of the more advanced HR features are limited compared to much bigger platforms. But for a small business like ours, that simplicity is actually one of the reasons we love CharlieHR. **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** CharlieHR takes a lot of the admin out of managing a small team. We use it for things like time off, employee records, onboarding and keeping all our HR information organised in one place. It brings everything together in one place without feeling overly complicated or like you need to be an HR expert to get value from it. The whole platform feels very intuitive, from managing employee information and time off through to onboarding and performance. I also really like having recruitment built into the same experience – the ATS makes it easy to manage candidates and hiring without needing to introduce another standalone system. For a growing business, it feels like a really good balance between having plenty of functionality and still keeping things simple. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** There isn't much I dislike. If anything, because Charlie is designed to keep HR simple and accessible, businesses with very complex or highly customised HR processes might occasionally want more flexibility or deeper functionality in certain areas. For us though, the simplicity is much more of a strength than a limitation. **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest benefit is having everything in one place rather than managing different parts of HR across multiple systems and spreadsheets. The pricing is also very straightforward and easy to understand, and in my opinion, it offers great value for the cost. We use the Google Calendar integration, which works seamlessly and has been really useful for our team. In terms of performance and reliability, we’ve never experienced any issues. One feature we particularly appreciate is the ability to see which team members haven’t used much of their annual leave. It allows us to proactively encourage people to take some well-deserved time off rather than letting their leave go unused. It’s such a simple but intelligent feature and shows that CharlieHR has really thought about the needs of both employees and managers. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** There isn’t much that we dislike about CharlieHR overall, as it works really well for our team. If I had to highlight one area for improvement, it would be having a few more customisation options and greater flexibility within certain features. One of the biggest benefits was their support in creating our company handbook. It has also made managing everyday HR tasks much simpler. Holiday and absence management is really straightforward, employees can request time off themselves, managers can approve it quickly, and everyone has clear visibility of allowances and upcoming leave. The onboarding functionality is also really useful. We can create onboarding checklists, assign tasks and keep employee documents and information together, which makes bringing new starters into the business much more structured. We also really like having the ATS integrated into CharlieHR. We can manage vacancies and candidates through the recruitment process and then move successful hires into our HR system, so recruitment and HR feel like one joined-up process rather than separate systems. The performance review and 1:1 functionality is another feature we use, giving managers a simple way to keep regular conversations and objectives documented without making performance management overly complicated. Overall, CharlieHR brings recruitment, onboarding, employee records, documents, time off and performance into one straightforward platform. It doesn't feel over-engineered, and it's genuinely easy for employees and managers to use. The value is very good for what we pay. Excellent customer services and it replaces a lot of manual HR admin and gives us one place to manage the key processes we use every day. Having recruitment, onboarding, employee records, time off and performance within the same platform also means we're getting a lot of functionality without needing to pay for multiple separate systems. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** Nothing significant, we've had a really positive experience with the platform. **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** CharlieHR has helped us move away from managing day-to-day HR across spreadsheets, emails and different systems. CharlieHR 14 day free trial as well is good because it is like pro, covers all paid features for 14 days and even after ending trial, it gives me option to export data current / resume subscription. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** Dislike point.. is only that suppose if I am managing multiple charliehr workspaces then sometime I forgot the subdomain name.. Application has functionality to find forgot subdomains . but it would be best if they can just continue using same credentials (email address) across entire CharlieHR. Means after logging-in user get option to choose their workspace so, they never forgot subdomain and also easy. The custom features make it easy to create and manage different contracts for our distributed team. The initial setup was really simple, easy to navigate, and low effort. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** I would love to see better reporting and insights functions, currently the report feature is capped at the date you are looking at it but if I have end dates of employees for future months which can help me project turnover rates and retention rates, that would be a useful improvement. I also would love to be able to customize our own personal branding more into the system, it does feel very much like CharlieHR system but it would be great if we can use more of our own branding. I’d love to see an integration with Payfit. Any data updated in CharlieHR gets synced automatically without me having to do anything in payroll. Leave days are automatically calculated if an employee joins or leaves the company throughout the year. Setting up new employees, templates, and other items in CharlieHR is super easy, and anything I am unsure about, the support team assists with. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** The 'Working weeks' feature in CharlieHR needs more custom functionality. We also love the employee surveys and annual leave managament aspects. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** It's such a great website but we wish there was an app as this would speed up user experience sometimes **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** Carry over annual leave now automatic, which used to be painful to review. We now use regular employee surveys which boosts employee satisfaction - before we did them inconsistently and ineffectively. We also have streamlined our employee reviews and the process is most more effective with a clear documentation of goals and objectives. ### 16. I calculated that it saved my 214 hours per year in admin time. When I joined my new company recently, it was the first platform that I implemented. I can't recommend Charlie enough to any new businesses/startups reading this review: it is the one thing I so wish I'd done before. There are just too many things you have to remember to do to be legally compliant with HR, contracts, policies etc, letalone trying to be a morally decent and supportive company. I've attended their free webinars on culture, people and policies and found them so helpful and insightful. The chat on the site has a speedy response and even when I've asked a dozen questions in one day (yes, I really have), I've got a lovely detailed response each time. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** The only thing I could possibly dislike about CharlieHR is that I didn't use it sooner. The development team really take on feedback and keep us up-to-date with new features, for example, recently they brought in an hourly tracker for staff that don't work full time which is really useful. **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a small business startup, you don't have the time or training to often stay compliant and up-to-date with all the new laws. CharlieHR has everything in one place and a responsive team who give personalised advice if you need it. Things are a little clunky / hard to navigate around and I'm forever confused as to where to look for things. - There are a few workflows that the product doesn't support (EG: calculating holidays for team members with variable working hours or recording time where team members are working abroad) and so you're forced to manage that separately outside the product - The Slack integration isn't very well thought through and there isn't enough granular control over what messages get posted where, so you end up not being able to meaningfully use it. I signed up to CharlieHR to support us with completing an employee handbook. Which was incredible support. We had our first HR issue which Alisa jumped straight on in Luula's absence. When Luula returned her support was amazing she would have daily calls with me. Check and amend documents for me. She taught me so much! We've had several HR meetings with Charlie for support and they've always been so quick to get back to us with clear advice which is tailored to us. I so wish we'd joined years ago, especially at the cost of just £4/pp. Every startup should do this! It's so much better to get things (policies, handbook, processes) in places when you're still small before you scale. The team are always quick (within a few working hours) to get back to questions on the chat bot and they have article suggestions that are actually useful. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** Nothing - whenever we have small suggestions about improvements that could be made on the UX, we're listened to and ideas are sent to their development team. **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** Time is the key element saved for us here with our contracts, annual leave and sickness tracking, policy updates and handbooks. We also use the add HR legal service which has already helped us no end. ### 44. Their portal has everything you need to manage HR in a small company and more, and their advice line has been invaluable to us when managing tricky situations. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** There are very few downsides to CharlieHR - when I do think of functionality that the platform doesn't have, the team are always happy to take my ideas back to their developers. **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** For a very reasonable price, CharlieHR offers top quality and up-to-date advice. We've also been able to jettison the many, many spreadsheets we used to use, in favour of a secure, easy-to-use platform, that saves on admin time. ### 45. My contact Alisa is always so quick to respond to my queries and will always find time for a Zoom call if something is urgent (even if her calendar is full!). It makes me feel so much more relaxed knowing I can speak to someone who's qualified and can help me with the legal side of things. Especially as our business grows and we have more and more questions! Love the new DEI survey and follow-up call (thank you Karen) and am excited to use the new library. They are a friendly bunch and no questions ever seems too much for them, which is great, as we have A LOT of questions! Sometimes HR is tricky to get your head around so I appreciate the simple way in which the team explain things. And if the topic is fairly complex, they will give you a call to talk it through, which is very helpful, always nice to speak to a real person and not a bot. **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** The only downside I can think of is that the cut-off time each day is 5 pm. We are open till 6 pm so sometimes I have missed the time to ask for advice. However, If I send a question after 5 pm, it is often picked up first thing and a response is sent to me the next morning. Other than that I can't think of anything else! **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are a small company without an HR department. There are only 15 of us in the team, so we can't justify employing full-time or even part-time HR personnel. So this support from CharlieHR perfectly fills that gap. I am the Operations Manager and I have been tasked with wearing the HR hat, but it isn't my area of expertise so having CharlieHR to check in with and help advise on HR topics is great. Can't forget to mention that they are always coming out with useful new features and integrations. Their helpdesk and specialist HR support are amazing too! **What do you dislike about CharlieHR?** There are only two things I think they could do better (and I'm being very picky here). It would be great to see better reporting/analytics as well as more speed integrating with other service providers (e.g., ATS). **What problems is CharlieHR solving and how is that benefiting you?** CharlieHR allows us to securely carry out all Human Resources functions from one centralised platform. From safely storing employee information, allowing employees to book time off and find all company policies, to employee development and HR reporting, you can do pretty much everything. Their specialist (CIPD qualified) HR support service is also phenomenal when we need extra help! ### 49.
