It’s pretty cost-prohibitive for small organizations. The most frustrating part is the price increase you run into every time you renew your contract. Its reporting capabilities are fine if all you need is basic, standard information, but there’s no way to create custom reports within the system. It’s time-consuming to have to pull data out and rely on third-party programs when you’re asked to present more detailed information that isn’t available through the built-in reports. With staff turnover throughout the years, information is still readily available for new staff so they don't have to create profiles from scratch. During this migration, users must work across both environments because several key features are not yet fully available in RE NXT. Constituent record load times also remain a significant operational challenge, particularly when staff need to enter or update large volumes of information efficiently. As a result, I continue to rely on database view for certain data-entry workflows. Blackbaud appears to be aware of these challenges and is incorporating user feedback into its RE NXT development roadmap, including prioritizing high-impact features and improving input processes to make the system faster, more efficient, and more user-friendly. In the large healthcare org where I now work RENXT is more than capable of tracking the vast number of constituents we have. Having the ability to see relationships, events, memberships, volunteering and so many other things right in one record is a timesaver. Having been at a private high school, we had current students, alumnae, their parents, plus donors not necessarily affiliated with those groupings. We could track the alum school information so we could drill down to specific years for current parents or alumnae. What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT? The biggest negative I have is the cost. Things like the events module or tribute module are all extras and not necessarily inexpensive but yet necessary for many non-profits. Finding affordable plug-ins that work well with Raiser's Edge is not always easy, either, like a good texting platform. Utilizing the webview dashboards/report functionality, we are able to quickly grab running totals on our Annual Fund, as well as see how our building campaign is performing and how much various scholarships have received on a given year. Additionally, we utilize their NXT donation forms on our web site to receive online credit card donations, which allows our various constituents to support our school's Annual Fund without writing a check. The underlying data model is genuinely robust once you understand it. Constituent codes, relationships, campaign/fund/appeal hierarchies, it's built to handle complex nonprofit structures, and the SKY API opens the door to real integration work instead of being locked into Blackbaud's own UI. I've built custom Power BI reporting on top of it using the SKY API and Power Automate, it's a solid pipeline for getting donor data into tools our leadership actually wants to use. The web view is genuinely nice for day-to-day fundraiser and quick lookups, and it's a big improvement over the old RE7 desktop client for staff who don't need to go deep into the data. Anything involving more advanced import profiles, chapter assignment logic, or campaign/gift field handling often still means working in the classic database structure rather than anything exposed cleanly in NXT itself. If your team doesn't have a technical resource, that complexity becomes a real bottleneck. Reporting out of the box is fine for standard fundraising metrics, but anything custom: cross-referencing restricted vs. unrestricted giving, chapter-level rollups, multi-year donor trend analysis — really benefits from pulling data out via the SKY API into Power BI. I find Raiser's Edge NXT intuitive and easy to navigate, and I can now perform most of my work in Web View. In my opinion, event setup is especially straightforward, making it quick and efficient to build and manage events. Gift management, while it still has a few shortcomings, has improved dramatically as more functionality has been migrated from Database View. One of my favorite features is the ability to send curated lists directly to our fundraisers—eliminating the need to create and distribute weekly spreadsheets. There are still a handful of tasks that require Database View, but with each new release, I find myself relying on Web View more and more. Blackbaud has made significant progress in expanding its capabilities, and I look forward to seeing the remaining Database View functions transition to the web in the future.y day. While Raiser's Edge NXT Web View has improved tremendously, there are still several areas where it falls short compared to Database View, particularly for power users and database administrators. That said, the gap has narrowed considerably over the past few years. Blackbaud has clearly prioritized moving core fundraising functions into Web View, and features such as gift entry, constituent management, lists, actions, dashboards, email marketing, workflows, event management, and prospect management have become robust enough that many users can spend the majority of their day there. For an experienced database administrator the biggest remaining reason to open Database View is typically for advanced administration, bulk data maintenance, and complex reporting rather than day-to-day fundraising operations. It has taken longer, and we have all essentially been beta testers to a raw product, which builds in suspicion and fatique among users. I fear that the move from DBV will involve losing some flexibility and functionalioty that we depend on in DBV due to decisions made by the developers (such as not moving over the Mail function which I use all the time, or the solicit codes which is not the same as permissions). The biggest win has been having one central hub for all our fundraising and development data. Before I came on board, so much of that institutional knowledge lived in our CEO’s head instead of in a system—donor history, relationship context, and giving patterns. Migrating off eTapestry and building out RENXT gave us a real source of truth for the first time. It’s also flexible enough that I’ve been able to create structured stewardship workflows across our donor tiers, which simply wasn’t possible before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT? Gift processing has some friction points that take getting used to. The bigger thing for me has been the ongoing migration of database views over to the Web View interface — it's been a slower process than I'd like, and until it's fully done you're sometimes toggling between the two, which adds extra steps to day-to-day work. Before RENXT, our fundraising data wasn't centralized — key donor and gift information lived largely in institutional memory rather than a shared system, which made it hard to scale or hand off work. Migrating from eTapestry into RENXT gave us a real system of record. That's let me build things that didn't exist before, like structured stewardship workflows segmented by donor tier, and it's cut our post-event gift processing time from 2-3 weeks down to 2-3 days. It's also made it possible to reconcile development data against our finance system in a consistent way, which we didn't have a formal process for previously. RE NXT is very easy to use and integrates well with many other systems such as Almabase. We are hosted by Blackbaud and find this very beneficial for remote access, the updating of the system, along with the safety of our data. The performance of the system is always quick and reliable. If there is an issue, there are multiple ways to receive assistance from the chat function, knowledge base, and the option of a human agent. The chat bot operates intuitively and usually is able to assist with solving an issue or providing direction. As all platforms, the pricing for Blackbaud's RENXT seems to be aligned with other services available in the marketplace. I prefer Blackbaud as it really is a one stop shop for all your fundraising needs with easy integration to services that they may not directly offer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT? Currently there is still a gap between what the Raiser's Edge database can do versus what RE NXT can do. Though I understand that the platform is incredibly robust, sometimes the movement between the two versions can be frustrating and/or limiting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you? One of the greatest things that RE NXT can now handle is the electronic tax receipt. Being able to push a button to issue the tax receipt directly to the donor by email has easily saved hours per day in our administrators day....even week. In the past the manual processing of tax receipts through a mail merge has been a painfully slow process which usually saw the administrator have to block of hours to a full day for creating and processing the receipts, plus the postage and organizing the mailing. I love the seemingly limitless queries you can pull which makes it easy to gather specific data from your records. I also love the portfolio work center. The auto tags (such as 'overdue pledge', 'no contact' and 'upcoming birthday') and recommendations for next steps make it easy to identify who to prioritize with your outreach. There is a lot to love but I also think it's worth mentioning that the Opportunities are becoming a favorite feature for our team. What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT? The email functionality is pretty limited. It worked for us for a while but we ultimately decided to buy an outside email marketing product. In RENXT, we can see who has opened our messages and who has clicked on something but it doesn't have the capacity to tell us what was clicked on. This limits our ability to effectively segment our communications based on our constituents' interests. The other limitation is that we can only email one email address in a constituent record at a time. Therefore, when someone who shares a record with their spouse, only one of them receives our communications. We've received negative feedback about this from our constituents. (Note: I think this is something RENXT is planning to correct in the future. They listen to customer feedback and make changes accordingly.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Although I know RE is still in a transitional phase and that there is more to come in unified view, there are some critical functionalities still missing in web view. This presents challenges for those of us who perform the bulk of our work in the database. For example, one of the main pain points for our organization is the lack of a robust tributes tile in constituent records. Features like this are critical for us and many other organizations. Still, I recognize and appreciate that unified view is a work in progress. I hope Blackbaud continues to listen to its users and builds upon the great features that are in NXT today. NXT is more appealing to many of our organization's frontline fundraisers, several of whom were reluctant to perform activities in database view alone. NXT makes tasks like adding actions, creating opportunities, etc. simpler and less intimidating for them. The ease and accessibility of Lists also empowers them to quickly gather information on their own without always having to use queries. While several of us are comfortable with RE's more complex functionalities--myself included--others need simpler tools to feel comfortable performing daily tasks, so I'm glad they have the option to do so.
