## About BCFG2
Bcfg2 helps system administrators produce a consistent, reproducible, and verifiable description of their environment, and offers visualization and reporting tools to aid in day-to-day administrative tasks. It is the fifth generation of configuration management tools developed in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division of Argonne National Laboratory.

**What do you like best about BCFG2?**

This system has a structure based on the client / server. The user (client) will interpret (but not process) the configuration provided by the server, and almost does not use user-side processing. The system server is responsible for taking a description of the network and converting it into a series of specifications which can and will be configurable by the client. It also manages probed data and tracks statistics for system users, among other features that it highlights. The system is, the detection of change, has a dry mode of operation, management of the complete configuration of the system, The configuration features are designed to be reusable, and several more, very interesting and useful for your company.

**What do you dislike about BCFG2?**

It is difficult to find information about its management, really both on the web and by the suppliers it is difficult to achieve the real functions of this system, apart from that it is very difficult to implement, very difficult, the matrix language to program the automatable functions is quite complicated, in my opinion the implementation was attempted and we had so few data that in the end I did not get anything.



**Recommendations to others considering BCFG2:**

I recommend the system to anyone who wants to implement it, it really is very good, it works for any company, small or medium, but they must keep in mind that it will not be an easy process and will take longer than normal, and if they can get the most out of it , then they will have gold in their hands.

**What problems is BCFG2 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At that time we needed an economic system and with good tools, they offered to implement us and we found it an incredible idea, and the little time we managed to use it seemed really good and meets many basic needs, however using 100% of its possibilities It was impossible since there was not much programmable information, you must do it by intuition, and that really takes a lot of time and economic expense.

**What do you like best about BCFG2?**

- XML-based
- Relatively simple to understand and learn the syntax
- Able to group items easily and apply configuration items selectively

**What do you dislike about BCFG2?**

- Not well documented. Documentation pages usually cover 6-7 different topics on a very short page. Few if any examples provided.
- Documentation more suited for developers looking to customize the software rather than using it.
- Difficult to set up the server.
- Testing mechanisms are really poor and pretty much nonexistent compared to tools like TestKitchen.

**Recommendations to others considering BCFG2:**

Make the switch to a modern configuration management tool like Chef, Puppet or Ansible. bcfg2 should be put out to pasture.

**What problems is BCFG2 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- It works and we derive revenue from it.
