Apryse PDF SDK Reviews & Product Details

I've found Apryse PDF SDK excellent for annotating piping and instrumentation diagrams. Its coordinate API is precise, so annotation positions sync accurately into our database at any zoom level. We've been using Apryse (it was still PDFTron when we started) since 2022 to display clinical guidelines and protocols inside the Eolas platform, on web through WebViewer and on our iOS and Android apps through the React Native wrapper. Clinicians open a lot of PDFs and Word documents with us every day and for the most part it just works. The Office to PDF conversion is a big one for us, a lot of NHS content still lives in Word and we don't need to convert anything before it goes live. Having one vendor covering web and mobile also keeps things simpler for a small dev team like ours. Support is responsive. Most of our tickets had a first reply the same day and they are quick to escalate to the SDK or core team when it's something deeper. The commercial side has been easy too, our last renewal was done in under a week and we locked in a 3 year term with fixed pricing, which helps a lot with budgeting. A few minor issues over the years, nothing that stopped us but worth mentioning. After upgrading the React Native package on iOS we suddenly had Apryse watermarks showing on documents, even with a valid license key, so we had to roll back to the previous version. Not great when it's in front of end users. We also had a Word document where some images and charts rendered as grey boxes. Support gave us a config change that fixed it, but it made loading slower for all Word documents, and the other suggestion was to go back to the author and ask them to use JPG/PNG images instead, which just isn't realistic for us. Reader mode also flattens bullet points and numbered lists. With medical guidelines that makes a difference to readability and at the time we were told it's expected behaviour. I really like the ease of integration with Apryse PDF SDK since it supports many different development platforms from React/Convex to plain Java. It was also easy to set up. The trial licenses worked well, allowing me to develop the product, put it into a beta environment, work out the bugs in development, and then easily switch to a production key. Additionally, the product solved the issue of not being able to save layers in the PDF documents, and the OCR module improves the quality of scanned-looking drawings and makes them searchable. I find Apryse PDF SDK to be a very sophisticated PDF tool that allows me to parse PDFs properly with their layers layout intact, which is crucial for my work with plan takeoff documents. It exactly matched my expectations for parsing these documents. I really like the level of detailing it provides for parsed PDFs and how smoothly the SDK connects, which is highly valuable for us. I find the latency to be a drawback and it must be improved. Although the quality is top-notch, the time it takes to deliver that quality output doesn't sit well on most occasions. The integration documentation was excellent, and the client user interface was very intuitive. It also generates Word and PDF files efficiently. We also found the account manager very easy to deal with and quick to fix the one issue we did have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The only real downside for us was the lack of a sandbox environment where we could test our development work before rolling it out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I needed to tag many different pdf flat files and was literally unable to find another product that was such a good match for my exact needs that did this good of a job at creating these acro fields in the correct spots. these are complex forms (prior authorization forms for drug prescriptions) with all differnt types of fields, like different length text, checkboxes, signature fields. from the programming end, we had a relatively easy time integrating the sdk library into our app. the pricing was a bit high, but we were able to sign a multi year deal to help with that. We did bump into an issue with OCR on the forms that we were able to get help with from the Apryse folks in a relatively quick timeframe. Their documentation was not as clear as I would have liked it to be, but I was able to get it in the end. Also, there's a 700mb files that had to be downloaded from Apryse and didn't come as a nuget package. In order for it to bundle at starttime in the app, we had to change from a flex consumption function app to a higher level one - windows elastic premium plan Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Apryse doesn’t have any downsides for us. Everyone in our company who uses Apryse has had no issues, mainly because the UI is easy to read and the functionality is straightforward and works as expected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What is best is the support. Questions are answered promptly, and updates and bug fixes are released regularly.

There are some features in the sdk (like layers) that are very difficult to find in other sdks.

I find the documentation really excellent, which makes everything so much easier to implement. The customizability of the UI is great, especially since it uses React, which is really easy to interface with. I also find the redaction tooling really easy to work with, which is much simpler compared to my past experiences with similar tools. Additionally, the support group available online has been really instrumental in implementing it flawlessly.
