## Redmine Reviews
  ### 1. Easy for Basics, But Confusing Sprint Tracking/Adequate Reporting Make It a Poor Substitute For Jira

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nate S. | Senior Director, Infrastructure and Security, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

It is a useful tool if you have very limited reporting and task management requirements. Its UI is fairly easy to learn and you can get the basics done very quickly

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Once you get past simple reporting and tracking, its usefulness falls off quickly. Its Agile sprint tracking interface is confusing and not nearly as good as its competitors. The basic reporting it offers is barely adequate, and unless you have the time to code your own enhancements, not very useful for sizable tasks. We ended up switching to Jira even with the cost difference, as it more than filled in the gaps that Redmine left

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solved simple reporting and tracking requirements, both for T&M contracts as well as Agile sprints.

  ### 2. Self-Hosted Simplicity with Powerful Project Management

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oleksandr G. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

I like Redmine for its simplicity and the fact that it is self-hosted. The free license is a big plus for me as it gives me control over my data, and I can freely backup and use it. Switching to Redmine was easy for us as it's more modern and features complete compared to Bugzilla.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

I'm not happy with the development and feel like there's some sort of features stagnation with Redmine. The interface looks outdated to me, and that's a bummer. Also, dealing with outdated plugins that can't be used with modern Redmine versions is a headache.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Redmine helps with time tracking, projects documentation, ticketing, task management, and reporting.

  ### 3. Comprehensive Tool with Security and Hierarchy Challenges

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samriddhi G. | Technical Project Manager , Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

I like that Redmine is very easy and simple to use, which makes it perfect for our team to manage tasks efficiently. What's great is the level of security it provides, as it can't be accessed without VPN, which is crucial since we work in healthcare and need to keep our client's personally identifiable health information safe. Redmine's open-source nature means it's accessible across different operating systems, making it seamless for our entire organization to use. I'm thankful for this, as it helps maintain our workflow without hassle.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

I mean, so whenever you are added to an organization in Redmine, it starts to send you all of these email notifications. So, of course, there is a workaround and you can turn them off for the ones which you are not a part of. And, like, that's still okay, but the UI is very old, and I feel like it can be, you know, somewhat more like a task tracking so that it caters more for the issue tracking issues. I feel like if you open the Redmine and you open the organization, you are able to see everyone's every detail which you don't wanna see. So maybe this could have been a feature where we have, like, teams, and then we tag those teams into those issues so that it only clogs the teams or, like, the people who are in the teams who are associated with that particular issue or sub-issue so it doesn't really clog everyone's screen because that actually makes the Gantt view and the HR view screens of Redmine really, really, you know, unstructured and full of data, which doesn't really make sense.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Redmine to track scoping, development, QA issues, and invoicing. It maintains client work seamlessly with linked issues and is easy to use across operating systems because it's open source. It's secure with VPN access, crucial for safeguarding client data in healthcare.

  ### 4. Effective for Planning, But Complex Customization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

I like the ability to view the Gantt charts of activities and to track work time with Redmine. I also appreciate that the initial setup is not very complex and has been refined over time to suit our needs. We have used Redmine for a long time because it is effective. I positively value the fact that it is free, which increases my enthusiasm in recommending it.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Probably the graphical interface and the possibility of customization are not immediate. It is not immediate to modify the interfaces and forms to adapt them to the team's needs, but it is still feasible.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Redmine for team task planning and workload management, including deadlines. I like to view the Gantt charts of activities and track work time.

In theory this allows you to build a project management software 100% customized to your companies needs.

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

The least helpful thing is it's authentication method which is again LDAP based. Considering current scenarios this group should provide MULTI FACTOR AUTHENTICATION or SSO integration with any technique (SAMPL2.0)
The other point is it's scalability and Lacking with OPEN APIs for more integration

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Redmine tool is helpful for managing project management activities. We use it for issue tracking, reporting, notification etc. We use it as a controlled document repository to store various process deviation, bugs, CAPAs etc. It helped us to create project and process specific help pages or files. ### 22. which is very transparent and prevents us from being overcharged in the rate sheets

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yinne L. | Assistant Content Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

offers a complete SaaS solution - credit card processing, subscription management, and commercial banking - all from a single source. Also, it uses exchange plus pricing, which is very transparent and prevents us from being overcharged on cheap rate sheets, which is often the case with flat rate pricing services. Finally, it offers its own hosted payment pages, which greatly simplifies implementation. They take care of the administration, training, HR, etc, allowing me to focus on more core businesses and use this app as a force multiplier.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

was great for the first year, however, for the past 12 months, pretty much all deployments have interrupted the checkout process in some way due to errors, and worse, it has taken weeks to reliably fix the errors, which has resulted in thousands of dollars in lost income and hundreds of hours of customer service time for our team.

**Recommendations to others considering Redmine:**

We had 2 customers who placed fraudulent orders for masks or socks, and we had to issue refunds and chargebacks for these. Small businesses like ours do not have the in-house legal expertise to handle Elavon Banking transactions related to these refunds and chargebacks.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting started is easy; maybe you prefer a bit more information on technical integrations, but I communicate with them mainly through Slack rather than their app/platform, so it may not be a valid point. Ideal for businesses. It requires installation of its program. You need to install an extension for your browser if you want to use the PC or Mac version, although there are apps available for Android and Apple.

  ### 23. Good tool for issues tracking and project management

**Recommendations to others considering Redmine:**

If you are looking for one tool that can be used for issues tracking as well as project management, Redmind is a very decent tool you can go for!

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Issue management is very useful as you can generate tickets for seperate issues by which it can be tracked on regular basis intil its resolution is done, you can assign the ticket to respective person and can add watchers you can see the ticket.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

I was not too fond of the UI of the software. It would be great if the same can be done. Apart from this, Redmine is the best software that i have used to date. If the software team can introduce drag-drop functionality to move the tasks from one place to another, that would be great.

Only UI/UX of the software needs to be updated. Apart from this everything is fine

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to solve the project complexities
I was able to manage the tasks of team members

When I open the ticket through the email notification, I can see the ticket; however, when I update the ticket, it asks me to log in. Instead, I suggest that before opening the ticket, it should always ask to log in. (Maybe this is a setup from the organization if so, no comments)
2) Reports

This tool is perfect for tracking issues within multiple internal teams like QC, DEV, CES, etc.

It's open-source and provides much customization over the UI and functionality. it is very easy to assign tasks to developers and tracking each task is very simple.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

some times I feel that the UI should be improved with the current market trends.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The project management and task break down made much simpler after using Redmine in our organization. Tracking multiple sprints and the chart view helps the scrum master to identify the actual status of the project.

  ### 31. Redmine review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco P. | Solutions Development Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

Redmine is a web based management interface that really simplifies my daily work. Help keep projects organized and also keep track of time as well as adding notes to meetings. My team and I use it everyday and the fact that is a web based application helps a lot when it comes to pulling information from it during a team meeting. Also having the option to have multiple users and various permissions is a plus when it comes to team work. Right now the entire team is using it with multiple project we could be involved separately or together.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

The tool is very nice when it comes to collaboration and at the moment we don't see many issues with it. Very lightweight and easy to install and configure. We used turnkey redmine, which is very easy to use and configure.

**Recommendations to others considering Redmine:**

Redmine is a great way to collaborate on multiple projects and if properly used, simplifies the project management. The tool is designed for collaboration and time management.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problems we solve by using redmine is managing projects and be on the same page when it comes to understanding the time spent on project as well as internal notes after calling the end customer

  ### 32. Very convenient way to track you're organization's support tasks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eber C. | Director de proyecto, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

You can quickly receive, assign and track tasks across your department. It allows you to analyze how efficient you're team has been in solving problems. Its integration with e-mail is helpful! You can make a task out of an e-mail and notify the user that you're already working on it. It is convenient to keep a healthy and friendly workflow. I love how you can quickly consult the status of a task on the web.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Honestly, I think it does everything that it´s supposed to do. However, maybe the user interface could be a bit more user-friendly sometimes. Though it is supposed to be understood by all organization members, it doesn't easily portray the information. And, since we have workers with different capacities, not all are fully benefiting from Redmine.

**Recommendations to others considering Redmine:**

If your company has a significant amount of internal support requests, you will find it very helpful. But it might not make much sense if your team is small.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our Computer Department uses it to receive support requests from all departments. We use a specific e-mail address to write when anyone is having an issue or needs support from IT. Then, Redmine creates the task. The good thing is that it gives the requester the feeling that his petition is being taken seriously and gives IT more control over its workload. On the other hand, every member can see the list of requests submitted and their status.

  ### 34. Great tool for project and bug management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manju Mol P. | Software tester, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

Great tool for managing bugs and projects also helps to collaborate with the team. it is free of cost and can be customized according to our requirements. We can estimate the time used for the work and view the reports.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Initial Customization is a little bit confusing and needs expert knowledge.

**Recommendations to others considering Redmine:**

A great open-source tool for project management. Free of cost and customizable. Also, we can calculate the time estimation and reports. Redmine will be very helpful tool for small and medium-sized teams to manage projects and bug tracking.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is free of cost and can be customized. We can manage our projects and calculate the estimated time and reports.

  ### 35. Excellent software for task management and documentation

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christoph K. | Inhouse Consultant SAP PP/MM, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

Very well-structured user interface that allows for quick familiarization and intuitive operation. Within my organization, Redmine is used as a tool for managing adjustments in the ERP system. The ability to personalize tasks is particularly helpful here, as different content can be displayed within a task depending on the project within Redmine. This greatly helps to address the different requirements of the projects. Besides the management function, Redmine is also particularly helpful in documentation. Here, for example, you can present adjustments in an audit-compliant manner. The filtering option and the possibilities for generating reports are particularly good. Here, you can rely on your own criteria, which is very helpful. Typically, Redmine sends a notification to the associated email address when changes are made to tasks to which a person is assigned.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Currently, there is no way to integrate with MS Teams for the version we are using. The user interface is a bit outdated and could be designed more modernly. Other offerings like JIRA or Trello further support the possibility of agile project management.

**Recommendations to others considering Redmine:**

If you are considering using Redmine, I would certainly include the integration into the existing or used corporate communication (e.g., MS Teams) in the evaluation. It has been shown that tools offering this integration experience higher adoption than tools that only notify via email.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Presentation of a task backlog
- Presentation of specifications for change requests
- Exchange between developer and IT consultant
- Audit-capable recording of system adjustments
- Use for progress tracking of tickets and adjustments
- Coordination and communication with other areas
- Acceptance of adjustments
- Proof of user acceptance tests

  ### 36. Simple and best tool for task and project management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacek P. | M, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

The simplicity of using that tool. It is intuitive. Works fast. Many options.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

A little bit of design. It looks very simple, but the functionalities aren't.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing tasks and responsibilities of them. Managing all projects. Status and timeline.

  ### 37. Fast and customizable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

It is fast and not overblown with the functionality you are never gonna use; if you need fast and reliable bug tracker - look no more. Ah, and if you need something special - there are tons of plugins

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Well, the UI might seem a bit outdated, some bugs might be fixed very slow or not fixed at all - like in all open source software (though you can always submit a PR if you need some fix/feature); default markup is hard to use and comprehend

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

bug tracker - it's fast and easy to use with intuitive interface

  ### 38. Dead simple task management & issue tracking software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

I like this software mainly because of its user-friendliness, and the application can access anywhere from just using a web browser. Also, for new users, there's no any learning curve to understand how it works. It's that simple. I can track my tasks & assign completed tasks for different team members quickly and easily. Redmine can be a handy tool, especially for software development teams who follow SDLC best practices. Creating new tasks, setting prioraties and managing end dates are also very straight forward. Anybody can easiliy find those stuff even without having prior experience.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

The application interface looks bit outdated and old. No mobile responsive interface offered.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Once I get the development task assigned to me, I can mark them as started, and after I finished them, I can assign them to testers at the final stage. It can be helpful when following best practices of software development life-cycle.

Learning curve of the initial configuration a bit steep. Technological dependency for implementation is not standard. Dificult to integrate with other systems.

I recommend having a company or partner to help with the implementation of the solution. It will be faster and more efficient especially if you have never worked with redmine.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Resource planning for resource deployment and billing

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

Redmine is pretty easy to self-host and the price is right (free). It gets the job done for issue tracking.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

The interface is a little too static, and the interface is dated. It can take a lot of time when you need to batch update a lot of tasks.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used Redmine at a small startup to create and manage bugs and features. We used it to keep track of what tasks team members were working on and help break down problems into small, workable chunks. The tool works just fine in an Agile software engineering environment.
