## Pantheon Reviews
  ### 1. From unknowns to custom transparency

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul B. | Web Systems Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

I really like the consistent framework that Pantheon provides for spinning up a continuous integration continuous development pipeline. We were not able to have access to these features in our previous host and spent a lot of time debugging around the provided processes. In Pantheon, they provide you with a solid process, tools for that process (terminus), and the freedom to build your own pipeline. This has been a game changer as we have gotten our deployment down from over 3 hours to, at max, 15 minutes. Along with this is their customer support - it is by far the best support I have ever received from a company. I will have actionable insights by the end of the day without having to write a novel and wait for requests for additional information on our issue from people who clearly did not know our specific product.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

At times the roll your own pipeline can be frustrating, especially when debugging an issue that you've created yourself. I'll look back ever once in awhile and think a process would be easier if there was just a turn-key solution for this one use case, but then I remember all of the additional things we get access to such as parallel deployment, multidev, integration with GitHub Actions, Terminus, more solid environments. With all the added benefits the extra time to build something specific for use case makes this the perfect hosting platform.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a single code-base that is used to power hundreds of sites. We needed a hosting partner that could support being able to make a single update in this codebase and in a single update with a development crew of three people (two front-end developers and one back-end) push this out to all hundreds of these sites. From the get go, I was able to transfer all these sites from the previous hosting environment to Pantheon in a single day. This did require an on-ramp of about three months to develop the custom scripting but the actual work took less than a day. Updating DNS took a little longer as anticipated; however, in Pantheon with Terminus we've greatly integrated GitHub Actions for a solid ci/cd pipeline that is bulletproof.

We run through cypress testing, linting and Drupal Code standards before the code is even pushed to Dev. We have up to 10 open pull requests at any time where we can go to our canary sites and test with live data. Then we we go to publish a release we use Autopilot to for visual regression testing. We're no longer debugging build issues at the time of release as these are all ironed out before the code even makes it to multidev. I calculated this out to about 52 hours I personally get back every year. This allows us to add additional safe-guards.

For example, we have one chunk of code that always requires a database update if our front-end devs touch it. They always forget, so we now have an additional check in GitHub to make sure if those files are checked that additional approvals are needed. I would not have had this time to develop these extra tools in our previous host.

Additionally, I have further developed out local development processes to be more streamlined with this added time such as adding hash checks to see if we really need a composer build or theme build when merging in other work. With the guardrails that Pantheon puts in place that standardizes how builds should be once you crack your pipeline you can focus on building the tools that will help you build more with less.

  ### 2. Pantheon's webops dashboard takes care of your workflow for you

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clare P. | WordPress Development Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

I like developing sites on Pantheon. Being able to spin up a copy of the site from a git branch, having git integrated with each sandbox so I don't have to set up any devops or deployment scripts myself, the one-click deployment to test and live, the one-click syncing... it's all so easy to use. And all this is out-of-the-box in the free sandbox environments, before you pay for anything. It makes starting a site build so much easier, and maintaining a live site securely is a piece of cake too. I've been building websites for 20 years and it's my favorite hosting environment.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

Hosting on Pantheon isn't cheap! But you get what you pay for, with great server-level security, and the built-in webops means you're saving time not setting up your own workflow.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pantheon makes it easy to have a website with a complete CI cycle without having to do any of the work yourself. Contractors can be onboarded quickly, the Lando integration means local setup is easy, and the dashboard is easy to figure out.

  ### 3. Seamless Workflow Integration and Support, Though Dashboard Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darryl R. | Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

Easy integration with workflows, and the natural staging from dev to test to live. The ability to create multidevs for testing branched work is great. Pantheon's support has always be quick and useful. And the support for delegating control, so that the site owner doesn't have to do all the security/team assignment/technical configuration is helpful. The downstream support for Drupal updates is great, and the inside knowledge that the Pantheon team has for Drupal, especially with regard to security and potential exploits, is life saving.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

Some aspects of the dashboard are a bit clunky.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Excellent uptime and performance are primary, of course. Automatic backups and site status information are helpful. Their integration into the Drupal security team is critical. Pantheon's support of the Drupal community is a nice bonus.

  ### 18. Happy, happy, happy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Romano M. | All IT, ICT and web development person, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

Have to say the support desk, which is for me the backbone of a company. Too bad not many in the hierarchy realise that. (Yes, pay the good ones (only the good ones) more!)

Currently I am in the free tier (silver), so usually support is very simple. I have a question, reply will be; Here is the support page! This is generally everywhere and also with Pantheon, however all understandable due being in a free tier.

However, most of the time with Pantheon, I have a feeling they actually look at the issue, in my case mostly technical, and give me the relevant pages and a possible solution how you might fix it. Limited support due my free tier, but their information they give is something that I can work it. That for me is important, due I have problems to fix.

If this is the case, I wonder how it would be as a paid customer, maybe I should persuede my boss :D

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

Technical documentation is sometimes hard to find or not pointing to relevant information (very short documentation), maybe the administrative documentation is based on an older dashboard?

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I like they have a DEV, TEST and LIVE environment. Maybe others have that too (no idea), but I have not seen it yet with the ones I used in the past.

  ### 19. Very flexible and reliable

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

The platform works seamlessly with GitHub which allows our team to safely manage and deploy code, and perform thorough testing across the board.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

At times the security system updates took longer than we initially anticipated and did not meet our expectations when we did have to push through updates.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped with several program that we had which include managing content across several different web properties, integrating the system with WordPress, automating testing, and version control. As our team dove into the platform and got more familiar, the team started to realize the benefits, scalability and flexibility of the platform. The solution now benefits our entire web team and is becoming more widely used across our organization.

  ### 20. Great cloud platform with awesome customer service

They are making hosting websites easy and keeping them up to date.

Customer support has been the best thing about Pantheon this year. Most of the time support will get back to us within 15-30 minutes.

This year, we observed more downtime in the application compared to previous years. During one update, we encountered an issue where we couldn’t merge our multidevs. Initially, it took some effort to convey that there was a problem. However, once other companies began experiencing similar issues, the response from the team shifted significantly. They became highly proactive and hands-on, providing us with one-on-one support.

Our CMS platform is hosted and configured on Pantheon, where their multidev capabilities provide us with greater confidence for testing and deployment.

Unlike most commodity level hosting providers Pantheon charges a higher price for site hosting, but their service level justifies the cost.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy security updates for Drupal and WordPress, plus amazingly responsive live technical support team.

  ### 32. Limited payment options can lead to hours of downtime

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

The deployment experience is seamless. We are able to push updates without having to worry abour servers and technical issues.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

The billing experience is now a nightmare. For the last 2 years we have had to endure a lot of pain with the billing process and lately it has taken a turn south. Our Indian credit card does not work on their site. Becaue of this, we need to reach out to support to have them send us a special link that will allow us to make a payment. A mistake due to lack of adequate labelling in a warning message, a site was downgraded. This lead to downtime. The fix is a quick CC payment. But because pantheon does not accept Indian credit cards, and being in a different timezone, we have been told that a fix will take 7-8 hours at the least. The support agents are not equipped and empowered to send us a special link to make a payment and we have to wait for the billing agents to wake up to help us. Hours lost in downtime.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The hosting is completely managed. Technically on the hosting side, we have not needed to worry about our sites.

  ### 33. Best Drupal and Wordpress hosting available

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelly B. | Founder, CTO and Lead Architect, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

The development environments be the performance. And support. Really everything, but they truly excel in these areas.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

Nothing. They stay ahead of my needs almost entirely, at this point. They're such industry thought and innovation leaders that I learn more from them than otherwise, these days.

**Recommendations to others considering Pantheon:**

If you have a Drupal or Wordpress site, you absolutely must consider pantheon. My development company won't develop on any other platform. There's absolutely zero risk to trying them out - developer accounts are free forever, and all accounts are free until you are ready to launch.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast prototyping, time to market, security issues, performance issues, SEO improvements, best practice compliance, the list is so long I can't even list them all off the top of my head!

  ### 34. The best hosting platform for developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alejandro M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

It's a great hosting solution for developers: it supports continuous integration, custom upstreams, git, and composer. It has a cli tool, a free tier for sites in development, and paid websites have three environments by default: dev, test and live. It's also possible to create up to 10 other disposable environments. We use them to preview pull requests before they are merged into the dev site.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

It would be great if the billing could be consolidated for agencies instead of dealing with each site's billing separately.

It would be great if the sites could support npm command execution besides composer, to build assets in the platform instead of using external services such as circle ci or GitHub actions.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pantheon handles multiple environments, automated sync between environments and easy data migrations. It also takes care of security; any website is secure by default.

  ### 35. Awesome for Developers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emily V. | Web Development Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

The dev, test, live, and multidev environments are awesome.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

Pantheon isn't the easiest for non-technical people to work with.

**Recommendations to others considering Pantheon:**

It's worth the price point. However, if you don't have a technical team, it may be challenging for you to get used to their system. It's certainly possible, but it will take time.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Two primary problems:
1. Fast, reliable hosting for my company's website
2. An appealing hosting solution for clients.

When we moved the Bop site to Pantheon, we saw a big uptick in page load speed, which contributes to our SEO.

It's so much easier to sell clients on a third-party hosting solution when we have a company like Pantheon to refer them to. Pantheon's resources and support team are a great help in avoiding the mess that is working with a client's internal IT to set up a server.

**Reviewed by:** Tyler B. | Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

Pantheon is a great platform for large or complex sites, or where the reliability of the site is paramount. The development workflow is standard-setting, and the security and CDN seem rock-solid.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

The development platform (not the content) always seems to fail at the most inopportune time, and the cost for small sites that rarely change is too high. The support has gone downhill (but is still pretty good).

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pantheon makes Drupal work; we don't have to worry about DevOps.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jana B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Pantheon?**

Can't think of anything - you can get web hosting anywhere.

**What do you dislike about Pantheon?**

Pantheon Support is a joke. Even if you have an Enterprise plan, you can't make a phone call, so you chat with someone who answers with canned AI-driven snippets that aren't related to the issue. They changed the terms of the plan I was on - I used to be able to make a call - and the user dashboard so it shows no billing contact info. They did not notify me of any of these changes, I received no notification when it was time to renew, no notification that my credit card expired and woke up one weekend to our website - a public company - being down. Support was non-existent and while I figured it out myself, I have yet to be contacted regarding my open ticket nearly 48 hours later.

**What problems is Pantheon solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently, the only thing it is doing is hosting a website that could be hosted for a tenth of the price elsewhere since they've changed my plan without communication.
