# Best Mining Software

 *By [Neya Kumaresan](https://research.g2.com/insights/author/neya-kumaresan)*

Mining companies need software solutions to manage exploration and production of minerals, optimize the use of human resources and equipment, and comply with environmental and health and safety regulations. Mining software can be used to estimate the financial potential of mineral deposits, manage the infrastructure needed for ore recovery, or track the movement of ore during the mining cycle. Some solutions also offer features for land rehabilitation for closed mines. Since mining projects require substantial investments, companies can use this type of software to lower costs for maintenance and production. It can also help mining companies increase the productivity of their employees through better scheduling.

Some mining software solutions focus on exploration and production, while others provide only features for asset maintenance. Most solutions provide integration with back office software like [accounting](https://www.g2.com/categories/accounting), and with [CMMS](https://www.g2.com/categories/cmms) or [EAM](https://www.g2.com/categories/enterprise-asset-management-eam) for asset management.

To qualify for inclusion in the Mining category, a product must:

- Include schematics and maps to display ore deposits and the infrastructure needed to recover them
- Capture and analyze survey data for surface and underground operations
- Schedule personnel based on availability, safety requirements, and customer demand
- Provide features for basic asset and equipment management, and integration with CMMS and EAM
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, or environmental protection regulations
- Manage the inventory of equipment and spare parts required to support operations
- Help mining companies manage relationships with suppliers or equipment or services
- Deliver reports and analytics on mine productivity, equipment efficiency, or profitability

### 7. [RocFall](https://www.g2.com/products/rocfall/reviews)
RocFall2 is a 2D statistical analysis program designed to assist with assessment of slopes at risk for rockfalls. Energy, velocity and "bounce height" envelopes for the entire slope are determined by the program, as is the location of rock endpoints. Distributions of energy, velocity and bounce height are also calculated along the slope profile. Distributions can be graphed, and comprehensive statistics are automatically calculated. RocFall2 allows the user to perform both lumped mass and rigid body rockfall analyses. RocFall2 can also assist in determining remedial measures: the material properties of each slope segment can be changed allowing for comparison of results. Information about the kinetic energy and location of impact on a barrier can help determine the capacity, size and location of barriers. RocFall2 also provides commercial flexible barrier information. Users can define a custom barrier or select one of the predefined barriers. Barrier sensitivity analysis allows the user to automatically vary the location, height, angle or capacity of barriers. RocFall2 allows you to create faster and easier high-quality output. Graphs can be exported to Excel with one click and the slope and rock-paths can easily be exported to a .dxf file for import into a CAD program. The Drawing toolkit has been improved to include importing of bitmap files, multi-line text-boxes that can be auto-filled with relevant simulation data, axes that can be dragged-and-dropped to show coordinates on a printed page and much more.

### 20. [RS2](https://www.g2.com/products/rs2/reviews)
RS2 is a powerful 2D finite element program for soil and rock applications. RS2 can be used for a wide range of engineering projects including excavation design, slope stability, groundwater seepage, probabilistic analysis, consolidation, and dynamic analysis capabilities. Complex, multi-stage models can be easily created and quickly analyzed – tunnels in weak or jointed rock, underground powerhouse caverns, open pit mines, and slopes, embankments, MSE stabilized earth structures, and much more. Progressive failure, support interaction and a variety of other problems can be addressed. One of the major features of RS2 is finite element slope stability analysis using the shear strength reduction method. This option is fully automated and can be used with various failure criteria, including Mohr-Coulomb and Generalized Hoek-Brown. Slope models can be imported or exported between Slide2 and RS2 allowing easy comparison of limit equilibrium and finite element results. With 64-bit and multi-core parallel processing options RS2 can solve larger and more complex models in shorter times.

### 21. [SWedge](https://www.g2.com/products/swedge/reviews)
SWedge is a quick, interactive and simple-to-use analysis tool for evaluating the geometry and stability of surface wedges in rock slopes. Wedges are defined by two intersecting discontinuity planes, the slope surface and an optional tension crack. SWedge provides an integrated graphical environment for fast, easy data entry and 3D model visualization. SWedge offers an extensive array of analysis options including Deterministic, Probabilistic, Combinations, Sensitivity, and Persistence analysis. Rock bolts, shotcrete or support pressure can be applied to increase the wedge safety factor. Destabilizing forces due to water pressure, seismic loads or external forces can also be easily modeled. Joint shear strength options include Mohr-Coulomb, Barton-Bandis or Power Curve models, and a joint waviness angle can be defined.
