Hi G2 users, the most reliable job shop management solution for a shop that has grown to 20 to 50 employees should replace whiteboards and spreadsheets without forcing an overly disruptive ERP rollout.
Reviews in the job shop management category highlight these options:
- ProShop: Best suited to shops that want scheduling, costing, quality records, messaging, and detailed work instructions in one system. Reviewers stress that successful adoption requires full team buy-in.
- Paperless Parts: A strong first step for shops where quoting is the largest spreadsheet-based bottleneck. It can push accepted orders into an ERP without re-entry.
- MIE Trak Pro: A comprehensive option for shops prepared to invest in a structured implementation across accounting, CRM, scheduling, and shop-floor workflows.
- JobBOSS²: A mature platform with a long record of managing quoting through invoicing for established job shops.
For shops that completed this transition, what should have been configured before launch to make adoption smoother?
Hey G2, job shop management tools should give a shop owner real-time visibility into job status and bottlenecks without requiring a full-time person to maintain the system.
The review data in the job shop management category points to four approaches:
- ProShop connects operator time entry and job updates to the owner’s real-time view, so status information comes from normal shop-floor activity.
- Paperless Parts provides visibility into quoting activity, adjustments, wins, losses, and order handoffs.
- Katana Cloud Inventory combines production status, orders, and inventory in a cloud dashboard that different team members update themselves.
- MRPeasy keeps production, materials, inventory, and work orders synchronized without requiring custom reporting.
ProShop offers the broadest shop-floor view, while Katana and MRPeasy appear easier for leaner operations. Paperless Parts is most useful when quoting visibility is the primary concern.
Has anyone run one of these with almost no dedicated administration and still kept the data accurate over time?
ProShop promises real-time data if machine operators update status as jobs move. But what actually happens is that operators are focused on the job, not the system.
ProShop sounds strongest for keeping the data accurate without a dedicated admin because operators update job status through their normal time-entry and shop-floor activity. I think that’s the key to making low-admin systems work long term: data collection has to happen as part of the job, not as a separate reporting task.
MRPeasy has stayed accurate for us with basically no dedicated admin. Production, materials, and work orders staying synchronized on their own meant we weren't relying on someone remembering to update a separate report.
