UX designers went from manually specifying comps and drawing out the pixel parameters between components to uploading a screen with a single click and allowing a software to do it all for them. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** Don't get me wrong, this is still and was a highly sought out after tool that added so much value in my team's workflow, but the tool has become laggy since we've been adding so many screens and projects to it, and has fallen behind as a solution ever since Figma started ramping up their dev to design handoff features. And there is no lag to Figma, so of course we would rather choose to use their tool from now on. **What problems is Zeplin solving and how is that benefiting you?** Pretty much as stated before, the manual redlining and design spec process is so arduous that Zeplin has helped automate the process so designers can spend more time doing their actual job. It's a feature where you can overlay at variating opacities what was handed off to Zeplin (aka the design) and overlay it on a dev environment to ensure that you have design to dev parity. It's really easy for our front-end team to see layout discrepancies using these features, and honestly is one of the only tools that I think has this feature. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** One of the drawbacks I find is it's really easy to create a messy sandbox of screens you've handed off for dev. I know there have been features to help mitigate this, like section parsing, and grouping into variations — I haven't done a deep dive into these, but I'm hoping these can solve our organization's problems. **Recommendations to others considering Zeplin:** If fidelity of handoff is really important to you and your FE dev team takes a few cycles to get it right, Zeplin can help you with that. **What problems is Zeplin solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Zeplin primarily as a hand-off tool. It's important that our front-end team gets the layout implemented accurately, and sometimes stakeholders will say something like "It's only 11 pixels, what's the big deal" but there have been times where those 11 pixels have made all the difference in the discoverability of a feature. Zeplin helps mitigate these risks. ### 19. It's also really easy to pull images or pngs from Zeplin, making it really easy for project leadership to use for presentations, etc. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** Grouping or arranging screens within projects still leaves a little to be desired - recent releases like for variants and sections within a project help, but it's still a bit of a struggle every time. Before the ability to have unpaid seats on a team was restored for paid organizations, it was also frustrating that all of our stakeholders would need to be added to every project individually. **Recommendations to others considering Zeplin:** Don't hesitate to reach out and let them know what tools you think are missing. The team has always been very responsive. **What problems is Zeplin solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Zeplin we're able to handoff screens between our internal teams and external stakeholders, keep track of final releases, and provide quick references when people are looking back at a project. It is much easier to use Zeplin this way than to try and have our team look back through old Sketch or Figma files, and it is also a helpful step to release screens with an audience outside of our design/dev team in mind. ### 20. The UI is very pleasing. That's what I like the most. Importing a design from XD is very easy and can be done in no time. Also for the developers, it is very easy to get the dimensions and also the assets required for the development. Also, they can comment at any section and this will be sent as a notification to the project owner. This way it improves the collaboration experience. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** It requires a strong internet bandwidth. That is one thing I dislike. If there was something like a lite version that can be used with low bandwidth, it would have been really good. Also, I have felt that it takes us a lot of browser memory if kept open for a long time. **What problems is Zeplin solving and how is that benefiting you?** Without Zeplin our developers had to refer to PDF design files to do the development. But in that case, they will not be able to get the assets and also the correct dimensions. With Zeplin we have all these in a single place. I use Zeplin on the broswer and there is no option to add a page / screen to a project through the website platform. You need to download the Desktop application to do so. But, they only have a Desktop application for Windows and MAC. There is no desktop application for Ubuntu. I don't think it's appropriate to not have an application for an entire segment of users. But this could also be because usually developers are the one using Ubuntu while designers use windows or MAC.
