We need to know a few terminologies & configuration options so that we can set up the Dashboard as per our requirements. Apart from this, OpsCruise is effective for monitoring our cloud infrastructure, keeping track of the errors and identifying potential performance bottlenecks. **What problems is Virtana Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's convenient to design our application mapping through its Apps Map Designer as it only requires straightforward drag & drop gestures. Once the setup is complete, several load balancing issues can be easily overviewed & through its automated discovery feature, newly included resources are also updated. As operators we can struggle to stay on top of the various workloads we're attempting to monitor. OpsCruise ingests operational data and builds a rich set of dashboards that make it easy to identify network bottlenecks, infrastructure problems and other anomalies as they happen. One particularly useful feature is "Time Travel" mode, which allows operators to compare current cluster state with previous cluster states, which has helped us many times to identify temporary failures which would otherwise be invisible. However the best thing about OpsCruise is the amazing team that supports it. OpsCruise is more than just a service provider; they are a partner that works tirelessly to make sure the integration with your system is as seamless as possible, taking into account your system's particular architectures and helping you to become a better operational organization. Opscruise metric/log collection is built on industry-standard open telemetry and open source tools. It was straightforward to use the product, and we could visualize the application in 10 minutes or so. The experience of deploying the observability platform was extremely good. Once deployed, we could observe the various interactions among the microservices at different levels - virtual machines, shared resources/environments, networking. Incidents that happen can be contextually viewed at multiple layers to resolve them fast, e.g., noisy neighbor.... Baselining the behavior and alerting for anomalies happens automatically without the need to set explicit thresholds for different parameters. This greatly reduces operator errors. Any change to a micro-service or adding another service is also baselined. It eliminates the need to review any previously used alerting mechanisms based on the human experience. Some parts of the UI were unintuitive, and the team took the feedback to work on. With a really large cluster, the network layout gets bogged down, but that is also a limitation of web browsers and how much memory/CPU it can use. **Recommendations to others considering Virtana Platform:** I think OpsCruise is an invaluable tool. It worked very well back in 2014 when you could monitor and graph SNMP devices, have awesome alerts through email, text, and land line phone calls. The interface was a balance between complex and simple if you just took some time to learn it and earn it. Seems to have scaled well in supporting data, devices, and users.This tool really helps our MS Data Center team manage Presidio's internal systems; in particular, our Data Collection Appliances (DCAs) and Linux jump servers. Presents a wealth of valuable information on any device: overview, events, component health, performance graphs, configuration properties, views, and network maps. All very helpful for diagnosing problems and root cause analysis. Our MS Data Center team uses the Zenoss Incident Management Integration Service with ServiceNow for service monitoring and component monitoring. The Monitoring Automation section of ServiceNow provides detailed device information and resolution information gathered from the Zenoss collector that we use to troubleshoot the incident. **What do you dislike about Virtana Platform?** Maybe needs stronger Layer 3 topology and more development for monitoring storage systems. **Recommendations to others considering Virtana Platform:** Pros: - Scales - Stable - Interfaces well with ServiceNow - Options for performance monitoring - Easy to interface with other tools and technologies. - Native extensible using standard software development languages. **What problems is Virtana Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've seen improvements in monitoring since migrating from Nimsoft hub to the Zenoss collector. Even for our application servers we can have an additional layer of metrics that give us insights to the main language we build our apps in. Also - we pretty much paid for our account our first year by using Metricly to determine where we were overpowered. **What do you dislike about Virtana Platform?** Some of the metrics are 'intelligent' as they have a way of calculating a baseline. This took a bit to get used to as this is a proprietary feature that is quite useful. So not really a dislike, but more of something to get used to. **Recommendations to others considering Virtana Platform:** If you have any questions their team is awesome and friendly. Even the sales team was very good - not too buggy. **What problems is Virtana Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use a cloud provider for the majority of our infrastructure. The provider gives us metrics but we wanted to aggregate them all into one view. Metricly allowed us to do so. But more importantly, we also got deeper insight into our infrastructure. ### 21. Since it's monitoring your infrastructure at several layers, it can let you know when specific things are not normal. This is way more useful than normal monitoring tools which require you to predefine what normal is. **What do you dislike about Virtana Platform?** The UI has a few rough edges and performance issues with large inventories, but they continually improve this and are responsive to suggestions. **What problems is Virtana Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** Metricly lets us quickly identify problems that need attention and unlike all of the other tools we use, does not send us false positives. Metricly also has many cost analysis tools which allow us to identify areas of savings that no other tool has been able to identify. You can use these tools against operating system level metrics so it's infinitely more useful than what AWS provides out of the box. ### 29.
