It’s an annoyance but isn’t difficult to move them afterwards but it’s step that shouldn’t be necessary. This is supposed to be resolved in version 5. My only other issue is that depending on which type of backup you are doing, you can’t select which datastore to backup to and/or can’t backup the same backup to multiple local storage devices. I believe this too is being addressed in version 5. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** VembuBDR suite allows me to cover all of our own and our clients backup needs, including backing up their data to our datacenter for offsite storage. Provides a method to do a bare metal recovery, easy VM recovery, and provide DR capabilities to anyone who desires or needs it. A huge problem it solved for me was the ability to EASILY seed an offsite backup for clients with large amounts of data. The previous well-known competitor made that task quiet difficult and convoluted and it wasn’t even a built in option. ### 2. The same platform is used to backup virtual machines (on multiple different virtualization platforms), physical machines at the file level as well as the image level. The interface is very intuitive which makes training our staff and creating internal documentation easy. Job functions are efficient and stable, which greatly reduces the amount of management time our staff needs to invest in the backups we manage. We have always been able to restore our documents - 100% of the time. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** There is nothing I dislike about the product. **Recommendations to others considering BDRShield:** Backup software in general can be a beast. I highly recommend allocating out some time and deploy a trial in your environment. Truly test all the functions of the product. I believe you will find VembuBDR to be one of the best, most complete backup solutions on the market today. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** Reduced the amount of hours our staff needs to invest into managing backups. The synthetic full technology (retention) works great and has reduce the amount of space our backups consume by over 30%. I can easily transfer VM to a backup point at any time. The Failover and Failback function let me have different choices to recover, like is it permanent transfer or temp one, and return to a replicate version. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** I can't change task name once it's created. I need to delete old task, so I can set a new task name while creating a new task. The Failover and Failback is based on that source VM is corrupt or off, so when I click failover, Vembu will turn on target VM, meanwhile doesn't force the source powered off. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sometimes VM works no well while applied an update, I can easily failover to a replicated point. Vembu is a competitive product to Veeam and Nakivo, yet the pricing is much more pleasant. Also, my support experience with them has been good. They were responsive (even while I was trialing the product) both times I've contacted them. I'm also unsing Vembu to backup to tape, which is great that this is included in the BDR Suite (no add-ons required). **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** If you have very unique and somewhat random backup scheduling needs, Vembu doesn't do that too well. **Recommendations to others considering BDRShield:** Vembu is a great choice if you're backing up VMs to disk/arrays/SAN/NAS/tape. Also look into their Offiste DR offering. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main benefit I've realized is less time Administering backups - creating and changing them is quick. Another very positive benefit is that I've been able to do additional backups since Vembu does the deduplicating/compression natively. Oh, and the storage encryption is all there (and I use my own keys for that). ### 26. Our biggest challenge was to find a vendor that would allow for us to host our own backups (both for our own infastracture but also to sell as a service to our clients). Vembu ticked the boxes well for low cost of entry and license fee structure and gives you the ability to host your own backup data or if you want use their cloud storage. We are now on our second iteration of our BDR server as the old server could no longer accomidate the storage or performance needs that our growing DR SaaS offering demanded. Support has been very responsive and helpful even in situations where configuration of the hosts or client side machines might have been on contributing factor to whatever issue may have been causing a backup to fail to complete. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** BDR and OffsiteDR (the 2 major components of Vembu's product) had a slight learning curve that seemed a bit touch and go to adobt initially. We have been using vembu for 4 years and the product, support, and documentation have developed and matured a great deal since we first came online with them. Online video demos and whitepapers vembu has did get us through most of the questions and configuration challenges during early onboarding, but it has taken some time to really fully comprehend and understand the in's and out' of the software as a whole. Possibly some onboarding assistance would be great for new MSP's looking to use Vembu in the way that we are would be great to offer. **Recommendations to others considering BDRShield:** Dont hesitate to ask their support for help if you are needing assistance, but send complete lists of questions compiled and clearly stated. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** Vembu has been able to solve our need of using their product as an MSP SaaS offering to our customer base, while allowing us to host all of the customers data internally with a product that makes sense for our business model. With a lower cost to entry over its short list of competitors the SaaS we have created out of the Vembu product has been profitable for us to the metrics that we had placed around DR SaaS in our suite of services portfolio. ### 27. Definitely study up on the user guides when starting to use this product. The restore job, however was done in a flash and up and running in minutes. Something you would really want when you are in dire straits. Getting up and running using the appliance was quite easy. You do have to request the appliance though. Configuring a backup or replication job is quite easy. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** The interface is inconsistent with the status screens as a low point. You really have to go look for the right one and even then Vembu recommends to keep them closed for performance reasons. A bit odd, in my opinion. The whole interface experience has a bit of a learning curve that may not be for everyone. An interface designer would certainly have some tips and tricks here. Not being able to configure network drive mounts to central storage from within the interface is really a lack of functionality and a serious fail. This is great for small businesses that has 1 or 2 esxi hosts and is new to virtualization. It allows the small business to take advantage of the software without spending that much and because of that they can plan ahead and include Vembu product licensing in the future once the need to backup more servers arises. Vembu also has an appliance version and is also perfect for small business. Licensing another OS just for backup is not a really cost effective for small businesses and this feature is perfect. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** Once a vembu server is synced to an online account and for some reason the admin needs to sync the server to another online account, the admin has only 2 options. Either he uninstalls and reinstall the product to change the server id and sync to an online account or have a tech support change it manually on the database for them. Option 2 is not documented so most of the time, admins will just uninstall and reinstall and sometimes that is disruptive. Recovery of the vembu server is complicated and would require an admin in depth knowledge of how to recover the server. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** Small business backup strategy while using on premise NAS with optional replication to another offsite storage or to the cloud. The backup is very efficient and simple to use. Adding a NAS to the vembu server is a straightforward process.
